"That is my instinct as well." she would add to Jun's mention of wanting to tear the whole thing down. Regardless of what benefits that could be gained from studying the thing, it had an ominous air to it. It was the result of a madman, and even if it served no higher purpose or was part of a bigger plan, it was still dangerous. Dangerous enough that they had opted to quarantine the area.

No foreign signals, no radiation, no further expansion." she would point to the base of the tower and the swirling metal that was embedded in the ground. "No seismic activity either. Getting below street level is a fine idea, the subway system had a few service tunnels that run perpendicular to the area. Iphi would light a flashlight as they approached the entrance to the underground. The infrastructure had all but crumbled in this area, but they were lucky enough to be close to an entrance that wasn't collapsed...at least not fully. "Be careful where you step. I don't believe they've had a chance to reinforce the subway system." she would step over a piece of concrete that had clearly fallen from the ceiling. "Its fairly likely he did. For something to have prepared something on such a large scale would indicate an ulterior motive. There are those criminals and villains who choose random acts of violence like the Mummy." she would step over a puddle and continue her thoughts. "Others I'm sure you've heard of, Gyrfalcon is rarely spotted moving without purpose, and I think The Elementalist is a league above these two. He had the means and the expertise but the motive is unclear, perhaps our investigation will bear some results."

As they continued to walk down the path, it slowly started to narrow. There was a slight cave in with half of the subway system being reduced to a pile of rubble, but they were getting closer to where the tower should have 'planted its roots'. Bracing herself for a tight squeeze, Iphi would do some quick mental math, trying to calculate whether Jun and her could possibly fit without getting stuck. The risk of a cave-in was pretty high, but she had an idea. "Jun, how long can your hard light constructs exist in the world, and how much weight can they support?" She only needed a little bit as she had brought something to help with that. She would pull out a small container revealing extendable titanium-nitinol rods that she would unfurl and then plant near the entrance, if Jun could support those further with her constructs they would definitely be able to see what was really down there and if the tower was truly inactive.

Mummy and Gyrfalcon...she felt like that was intentional being brought up like that. A villain was a villain for a number of different reasons, but like heroes they had different motivations and methods to go about them. The pair were definitely so far in different directions that the comparison stuck with her. As they reached the cave in Jun surveyed the damage, the uncanniness starting to sink in. This wasn't a tunnel that the staff had blown apart as part of a simulation, this was the real deal. Trains filled with people used to use this system, and now she was looking into part of the root of this devastation. This was only furthered by the question Iphi posted. "It depends on how long I focus on them." She looked at the container and the rods being produced, and with a raised eyebrow Jun started running through her options. This was going to be a tight squeeze, and with everything being precarious as it was she understood the caution Iphi was exhibiting. Taking in a deep breath, she touched on her feeling of compassion before creating a series of Roman tower shields, each one floating and beginning to move to brace the walls and move some of the cave-in back to its original position. "I should be able to maintain this long enough for you to put the braces up. Assuming the whole thing doesn't cave in." Iphigenia Pavlina

"That will be good enough. Considering the tower's radius, the 'roots' are likely only a few meters from us. We'll only need the support as a precaution. We won't be down there for long; there is much more risk for the two of us if we overstay our welcome." She would point to the left and then right of the duo, showing cracks in the subway foundation that had clearly been traveling since they originally formed, indicating a collapse at some point. Not bad enough for them to immediately withdraw but enough that Iphi felt the need to point it out.

She would take a few steps back, allowing Jun room to use her quirk to reinforce the walls. She had full confidence that she could get the job done without issue, but Iphi's job was to stay extra vigilant and watch for any changes. "Looks like we're safe from a cave-in unless someone or something decided to drill into the subway foundation." She would set up enough of the metal supports to allow them to fit through the opening comfortably.

"I'll go through first; if something happens, you are to run and get assistance, NOT go in after me." With her little expedition with Kaida she felt it needed to be said. Iphi was done being reckless and putting others in danger. Her priority was, first and foremost, to indulge Jun's curiosity as a teacher and protect her from things she couldn't handle. Stepping through the squeeze, what was on the opposite side could only be thought of as...underwhelming. There wasn't any writhing mass or a secret lab down here it was just the same material hooked into the foundation as a support to keep the large tower balanced. "We're clear!" she'd call through the opening so Jun could take a look for herself. "So, thoughts?" She'd take out her camera and snap a few pictures as she waited for Jun to share what she was thinking.

In a few ways, she felt a little bad; maybe there could have been something a little more she could have done to prevent this? Once the supports were in place she'd let the constructs fade, and she'd prepare to follow Iphi into the space. Her nostrils flared a little at the command, a hand reaching up to spin one of her rings. She didn't like the idea of leaving her mentor down here in the event of a collapse; while she was more passive than Kaida, Jun still retained a level of rebellion that was kept fresh due to the occasional squabbles she had with her mother. "Acknowledged," she says, half-committing to the command. If there was something that she'd be able to do, she'd attempt that first. So Jun waited. And after a minute or two she'd get the all clear, and she'd carefully enter the space, a frowning forming on her face as she crossed her arms. "Well, this is disappointing," she says, looking at the weave in the walls. She'd make no effort to hide her frustration, which was definitely going to make utilizing her quirk that much more difficult. She'd pull out her phone, activating the light as she got closer to one of the walls. "Well, at the very least we can report these findings to whatever demo team will need to come out here," she says, sighing. Iphi couldn't help but let out a small laugh. Jun was a natural for this kind of work as she could vividly remember having a similar frustration with earlier cases. "Detective work is unfortunately not always satisfying. Sometimes, you spend all your free time working on a case just to run into a deep end." she would point to the inert anchors on the wall. "Seems like this is one of them." She would approach the structure and examine it closely, taking a few pictures for extra detail.

Iphi pondered the question, having run through her knowledge related to cases like this. "Usually, its either a fail-safe or the intent is to be used later. It's a risky gamble but...think of it like a scenario you've seen in your classes. If someone had planted a bomb, but you don't know where, they have leverage." Putting her camera back in her pocket, she would gesture toward the exit. "It limits your actions while simultaneously drawing your focus in. Then you can either use that bomb threat to control the actions of others or act upon other plans you might have. Contingencies that normally wouldn't go unseen if you didn't have a larger threat." Getting through the tunnel, she would gradually remove the supports she had placed, putting them back in her case. "Unfortunately, we'll have to wait and see what the true purpose of this structure is. In the meantime, as you saw earlier in my office, I have several other sites to check out.
