Michael Faraday
Flying Not So High
Michael was wrapped up pretty tightly in Jun's chains. He let out a deep gasp of air as the chains squeezed on his inflated body. Michael knew he was outmatched. The sheer versatility and command of Junsuina's quirk could not only counter anything Michael could manage, but she could then dish it out far greater. She was truly inspiring for the young balloon hero. His creativity and flexibility only carried him so far and to Michael's relief Jun actually stated her admiration of what skills he had managed so far, even if she over-estimated him as a challenge. Still her words were encouraging enough for him to try one more thing.
Michael gripped onto the chains and arched himself back as hard as he could. The pushing back against the snugness of the chains had them tighten that much more, but it allowed Michael just that little more tension. He didn't have much else he could think of but it was worth a shot. "I... I'm not done... just... yet..." Michael gritted out as he pushed himself harder against the chains. At first it seemed like he was futilely trying to break free, but even at full strength there was no chance of him pulling off a feat like that. However, that wasn't why he was straining against the chains.
Suddenly Michael let all of the gas that he had inflated himself with out at once, shrinking his bulk and trying to use that tension to snap him out of the coils of the chains before they could clasp around him again. It was a last ditch effort and he had no idea what to do to follow through, but if he managed to slip her binds, he'd make a mad dash towards Jun.
Notes & Tags: junsuina | TLDR: Michael strained against the chains to build a little tension so that when he released all the air from his body he could try to snap out of the bind before they clenched around his deflated body again.

| [attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun watched as Michael struggled against the chains, raising an eyebrow as she waited for him to give in. There wasn't much he could do, and it just made her feel bad. "You don't have to push yourself. Exercise is over, we can head back in, and I can give you plenty of feedback. You definitely have a lot of potential, and-"His sudden expulsion of gas caught her off guard, and before she could react he slipped the bonds that held him. To make it worse he was bolting right for her. This was where one of the glaring weaknesses of her quirk shined through: she was in a deadlock. She was surprised that Michael slipped the bonds, something an underclassmen hadn't done before. She was so stunned she couldn't draw on her fear, or compassion, or even her anger. The most she could do was square up into a fighting stance, letting a million thoughts course through her head as she attempted to think on the best course of action: How did she stop someone with such a quirk that was versatile like Michael's, not to mention will? Michael Faraday
Chance Blown
As Michael's body limply flattened, he snapped through the relatively loose chains like a noodley rubber band. He had made it through. His plan somehow had worked, though now his cascaded down towards the ground like flaccid frog. Michael had never tried to go from overly full to deflated and then back to inflated again in such rapid succession, at least not successfully. The strain on his body wasn't quite as intense as the aerodynamics need to expel all that gas only to try to recover it back in a matter of seconds.
Still Michael knew exactly what part needed the air first in order to stick the landing. Forcing the air flow to fill his feet then legs and hips, Michael hit the ground running, charging straight towards the surprised Jun... only to collapse over himself and crash face first into the ground like a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man against a strong wind.
Michael remained sprawled out and still against the ground for a long moment, like an empty bag on the dirt. Slowly through the cramping, Michael let out a low "Ow..." sound as he began to breathe himself back to shape, still laid out limply. While his body was becoming more filled out with each breath, it still hurt to try to move anything. "Okay... I'm ready to call it now..."
Notes & Tags: junsuina | TLDR: Michael's plan worked, but he isn't strong enough to carry through after words and cramps up splayed out on the ground like a dying balloon.

| [attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun paused, looking at Michael all on the ground as she wanted to make sure the coast was clear before approaching. She'd kneel a little ways away from him as he started to reinflate himself, tilting her head a little. "Well, I think we successfully found some of your limits," she says, a little concern in her voice. "You definitely have a level of creativity I wasn't expecting. Honestly, if we repeat these same steps in the future I doubt I'll be able to win. But I think we do have a good starting point from here on out." Jun was 100% impressed with Michael, she had to admit that. There weren't many people that could do that in so short a period of time. "Once you're ready, let's swing by the nurse to have you checked out. I'd help you up, but...uh. I have an aversion to touch...sorry." She rubbed the back of her head, genuinely feeling bad about it. "You did good today, though! I can't wait to see what you'll become!" Samaritan |

Michael Faraday
Out of Gas
Michael grimaced as he rolled onto his back as Jun knelt down near him. His body stung but it was more embarrassing than painful with how it all ended there. He continued to pant softly, his body filling out with each breath like a bike pump. "I'll... be fine... I've... just never tried that move before..." Michael chuckled through the discomfort. It wasn't too long before he was inflated enough that he was able to sit up. His muscles were sore, but there wasn't any real injury.
"Ingenuity and flexibility is kind of what I've worked on the most. A lot of my peers growing up laughed at the idea of me being a hero, especially one that didn't like to hurt people, so I had to think differently in order to show I could handle it. Thanks for taking it easy on me back there, I wasn't sure what much I could do against a quirk like that without trying to harm you. It's nice to know I likely wouldn't have been able to regardless." He laughed playfully.
He was unaware just how close he was to actually catching her off guard, but with his nature it was unclear what he would have been able to do even if he had stuck the landing of that last move. He didn't have the instincts to take out an opponent physically and even with these sparring practices he wasn't sure if he'd ever feel comfortable doing so...
Now sitting up, Michael took some deep breaths and got back to full size. His muscles were cramping up badly now. He needed some water and a good rest, so he was glad their spar was over. He was hopeful from her saying she had a good idea of where to go with him from here. If he could learn to be as versatile as she was, he might be able to find ways to stop a target as quick and painlessly as possible.
Michael forced himself to his feet with a drawn out groan. "Oooookay... I'm off to the nurse's. Thank you for today. I learned a lot and am looking forward to more." Michael said to Jun. He was going to extend a handshake but with her aversion, he gave a light wave/salute instead to wish her goodbye.
