"... is this really gonna work..?"
Miroru stood just inside the entrance to Ground Beta in her tracksuit- plus the glaring addition of a pair of gold-plated boots with thick soles. Within the soles, she knew, sat the turbines she'd designed and worked on with Hiyori, and she had promising thrust results from the lab, but she hadn't used them in the field yet- that's what today was for. Word had been passed to some student or another to ask for their assistance in testing mobility gear- a faster student, one that ordinarily would outpace Miroru easily, but as for who they were, that was still a mystery to Miroru herself, leaving her to do what she was doing- standing all pensive-like and trying not to get overly anxious while she waited for her racing partner to show up to turn the streets of Ground Beta into their personal competition track!

Wanted Ad: Speedy Student to assist with field testing[break][break]
Being able to put out requests to other students was sure handy. Takara had been scrolling through the listings when this particular one caught her eye. She did consider herself pretty quick on her feet and she had a burning curiosity to see whatever this mystery gear would be. She had accepted but refused to provide her name ahead of time as she believed that would be more fun for both her and whoever was making the request.[break][break]
Putting on her tracksuit as well as a pair of trendy glasses she headed over to Ground Beta. In her mind, she had imagined this field test would involve some sort of giant robot or maybe a power suit?? Upon arrival she waved to Miroru, calling out once she was within earshot "Heeeeeey! I'm here to help you test whatever thingy you wanted to do." her eyes trended downwards making a mental note of how much smaller the girl was compared to herself before her eyes landed on the ornate shoes Miroru was wearing "I'm gonna guess these are the things your testing...unless they're just a fashion statement, in that case, my bad!" she gave a smile of reassurance. She could be nice if the situation called for it!

"Oh, hey!" Miroru called out as the girl approached with her trendy glasses. "I'm Miroru. It's nice to meet you- I love your hair, you must take super good care of it," She offered, admiring the classical beauty of the short, dark hair. "And yep! Those are the object of the test today- jet thrusters meant to offer some vertical mobility so I'm not as slow or simply ground bound. It'd be nice if they were purely fashion, but I'm really not that keen into style, you know?"
The redhead pointed down a long alley filled with obstacles and bad footing, "garbage" bags filled with soft padding and heavily flooded side streets. "We're gonna be racing down that alley- the idea is to find out if the mobility can make up for a lack of sheer speed. Any other questions before we get started?"

"Awww hey flattery will get you everywhere!" Takara tended to get a lot of compliments on her hair and eyes given her mutation. She may not have looked much like an animal but it sure felt that way when her hair grew an inch a day, completely straight with no curls. She took this opportunity to look Miroru up and down. 'Cute Girl' she thought to herself before she would compliment her in return "I like your hair too! it's so bright and fun. It matches the tails!" Takara always felt slightly more comfortable around obvious mutants as her parents could have been mistaken as wild animals.[break][break]
She listened to Miroru's explanation nodding along when appropriate as she was actually paying attention for once. When asked for any follow-up questions Takara realized she had forgotten to introduce herself entirely "Oh! not a question but I forgot to introduce myself, Takara Toshigawa" Having taken care of that she actually did have a follow-up question "So am I going full speed down this track or is this more like what do you call it...like one of those game shows? You know the ones. More about getting down there without falling than about who finishes first?" either way she would begin to stretch, having done a lot of sports in high school she was quite the athlete even compared to others at UAU when quirks were taken out of the picture.

"I'd never! I'm not a liar. I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it. I WISH I could get my hair to lay flat like that. Yours is gorgeous!" The compliment returned lit her cheeks up and she laughed anxiously, clearly unused to dealing with compliments. "Aw, stop! My hair's a mess!"
The redhead grinned at the intro. "Toshiga... wa... san, then... say... you're not..." The question was obvious. Related to Leonid? Of course she was! Even if she didn't look fuzzy in the slightest!
"Oh! Full speed, please. Or at least, as quick as you feel comfortable going with all the obstacles in the way. I'll hopefully be able to skirt past the obstacles with my boots, but from what I hear, you might be fast enough to outpace me anyhow!

"It's genetics I suppose!" she could have launched into her usual talk about Leonid being her grandfather and her father also being more feline in nature just meant that it really was genetics. "I think after the race you might change your mind. Running and long hair doesn't really mesh well" laughing as she continued to stretch in preparation she was caught off guard by Miroru making the connection with her last name alone "Yup!" she would say suddenly, cutting off Miroru's train of thought before she could finish the sentence. "I'm fine with answering any questions about that deal after" she gestured to the course as she tied up the loose strands of her hair. "As for my questions I'm all set!" she moved over to the starting line and assumed a crouched position with both hands on the starting line, and her front knee leaning over the starting line.

"Maybe I will! Change my mind!" Miroru chirped pleasantly, pausing briefly to look off to the side, squinting for a moment. Something had felt...
Hm.
Gone. Strange.
Shaking her head, Miroru turned back as her racing companion crouched, preparing for the race, nodding her way as the air darkened, the light dimmed as she gleaned the abundant energy to fuel her gadgets, powering the electromagnetic-driven turbines in the boots!
"ON your mark... GET set..."
"GO!"
Miroru took off alongside Takara, sprinting beside her and keeping pretty even pace- and losing a bit of her stride from her unfamiliarity with the weight and soles of the new boots. Where the first piles of "garbage" spread across the alley, though, Miroru was able to flex her quirk and catapult herself into the air with a surprised wail that trailed into a peal of laughter as she flopped onto her back in another "garbage" pile, scrambling back to her feet and snickering as she did her best to keep things competitive!

Takara despite being a bit of a slacker did enjoy a bit of fun competition. She grew up playing sports and she was drafted mostly due to her height which didn't stop her from having a good time. Her dad may have been strict with the idea of hero work but was very encouraging of a potential sports career having played when she was younger. Before she became enamored with the idea of her grandfather's legacy her original dream was to become a professional basketball player in the non-quirked leagues which banned the use of quirks to provide an unfair advantage.[break][break]
Coming back to reality as soon as the countdown finished she pushed off the ground, sprinting side by side with Miroru. She wasn't exactly running at her maximum speed but was pretty close to it with this being a test she wanted Miroru to be able to get valuable data. The first obstacle wasn't much to her as the muscle memory from years of being on the court she pivoted on her feet and rotated her torso to weave through the field of garbage. She didn't expect to come flying from above and land near her in one of the garbage bags. "Better figure those out quick! I'm not one to show any mercy" she jogged in place for a moment sticking out her tongue in a teasing manner before she would run off to the next obstacle. It was a tall path of garbage that would slow her down but hopefully the head start would be enough!

Miroru, too, thrived on competition, though she had focused mostly on martial arts and track and field. It showed in her speed as she and Takara both kept up world-class (for the quirkless, anyway!) speed as they ran, interrupted only as Miroru flailed into the soft "Trash" and Takara stopped to taunt/encourage her to get up and keep running! The redhead wrangled herself to her feet with a grin and nodded! "You better not! I wanted a competition!"
Miroru followed, focused for the moment on getting a more stable hand on the boots and their effects. The thrust was appreciable, but hard to control in sudden bursts. Ascending would be difficult, and landing was tricky- though, she supposed, she could use the thrust to help slow her descent as well. But that gave her an idea!
Takara maintained her lead as Miroru sprinted to try to catch up, but as they approached the trash, Miroru managed a trick that might actually get her a little bit ahead- as she jumped to clear the trash, she leapt as if in a long jump competition- and triggered her boots again, jumping a second time midair, clearing the garbage easily!
The landing was messier, even with the boots slowing her drop- she touched down clumsily, and staggered for a few steps before regaining her stride!

Wading through the garbage bags really did slow her down. She figured at the very least that she would be able to clear the heap before Miroru could catch up but much to her surprise she squinted as a shadow eclipsed her with Miroru making an impressive leap followed by a second one and landing on the other side. "Got some fancy tricks I see!" she called out as she reached the top of the head finally just as Miroru was starting to pick up the pace. It was a far jump and Takara figured the only chance she had to make up her lost time was to jump into a tumble below.[break][break]
She would do just that pushing off the top bags and free-falling for a moment before tucking her body in and rolling, using the scattered bags to break her full. Thank god for gymnastics! She would push herself up from the ground beginning to sprint as she caught up to Miroru shortly "Better push it!" the next obstacle was scattered trash bags which would make it hard to run straight through without tripping. She would navigate this much easier than the last obstacle using the skills she learned playing basketball for years to pivot and twist around the garbage only losing a small amount of speed in the process.[break][break]

Miroru wobbled against the wall of the alley and laughed up at Takara as she hurled herself down the soft pile of faux-garbage! "After all the time Hiyori-chan and I spent putting them together, I sure do hope they're fancy!" She turned and scampered, squawking as Takara recovered almost instantly, rolling back to her feet and sprinting forwards fast enough to catch up and overtake her! "Hey! The view from behind is great but get back here!"
Miroru leapt and pulsed the boots, letting her flit over a clump of debris, and tried to do it again as she descended, failing to gain height- OR lose it! Squealing, she twisted and landed awkwardly, backstepping a couple paces before turning and leaping again, clumsily hopskotching her way forward as she started to get the hang of chaining jumps mid-air! She stayed just a few feet off the ground, but she got to go straight forwards while Takara slalomed easily through the debris, the redhead's direct course starting to let her catch up- but with the end of the alley coming up, the question was whether she'd take the lead in time!

Flopping into a tumble into a soft pile of foam "garbage", Miroru giggled wildly as she wriggled back up onto her feet. "I almost got you! Good god, but you're fast. I gotta get better at foot races if I'm ever gonna chase down thugs!"
Stretching, Miroru sighed, but nodded to herself. "That was a good test. You did an excellent job! I'm disappointed I couldn't cinch the win, but you earned it, Takara-chan! I hope we can meet and do this again, too! Take care of yourself, okay?"
