Epilogue
The more time passed the less impressive the titan's rampage appeared. From a titan it went to a normal sized threat all the way down to a small doll no different from the many still running around the arena. The fires faded alongside its size, leaving nought but the charred results of its passing. Craning its neck from where it laid the doll looked at each of the competitors in tune before it spoke, its every word echoed by the many dolls that had stopped dead the moment it opened its mouth.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry."
"I never meant... to..."
With its final words said the grand antagonist finished crumbling into dust. A wind swept through the arena scattering its final remnants all over the burned out neighborhood just before the surroundings faded and the students found themselves in the white room once more.
They were greeted by a small cloud of smoke as Raincheck exhaled and put out his cigarette, medical personnel seeing to their injuries while he spoke.
"Congratulations on your victory. You have all done well. Don't let it get to your head," he said before looking up as if seeing something far past the ceiling of the white room. "A great many tales just like this one have played out in the past and many more will in the future. All that stands between tragedy and salvation is the right person in the right place at the time."
He pointed another cigarette at the students as he continued.
"That person could be you so long as you don't give up. Get some rest. You've earned it. Use it well, for tomorrow another day awaits."
Turning around with a flap of his coat he walked away while lighting up his next smoke. Looking over his shoulder he waved and left them with some passing words to think over.
"Did any of you figure out what all of that was? No need to tell me if you did. You're probably wrong. Take some time to think it over, compare your experiences and then try to figure it out. Have fun."

Epilogue
Silence. All encompassing and as impactful as it was momentary. For the shortest second after the orb made contact with the plinth the entire world seemed to stop, holding its breath in anticipation. Then, with a level of finality akin to the ding on a microwave right as your hand reaches to open it a second too late, the plinth glowed gold. Its essence bathed the arena in its radiant light not unlike a localised aurora borealis.
The sheer potency of the energy contained by the true orb made it very clear what would have happened had it made contact with the gas filling the arena.
The hissing sounds stopped the moment the orb found its final resting place. In their place the sounds of whirring gears and clanking chains could be heard.
"Your final challenge arrives. We had thought some amongst you might be equipped to handle it but clearly we vastly overestimated each and everyone one of you."
As the mechanical clanking grew louder its source became clear. Behind the plinth a heavy gate opened like a portcullis, chains drawn tight and gears continuing to strain under its weight as they pulled it up one turn at a time.
"The rest of your lives await. Good luck. You all clearly need it."

Epilogue
The timer ticked down to zero, a flurry of confetti briefly replacing every single projectile within the gales before the winds died down.
"Aaaaand that's a wrap! My congratulations to everyone that reached the top! Well done and may the future be bright for all of you!"
The inventory of each contestant appeared and a new button blinked into existence atop it. Pointedly called 'EXIT' pressing the button would cause them to be teleported out of the arena and into a white room not unlike the one they were in at the very start of the competition. Medical personnel was at the ready to assist anyone that appeared and after a check-up the participants would be permitted to leave. There at the exit they would in turn be greeted by a great deal of congratulations from manufacturers, recruiters and support alike, perhaps savvy students could even manage to talk their way into an internship, the attainment of personalized gear or more.
Back within the arena Windfall spoke up once more.
"To everyone that hasn't gotten to the peak yet: don't give up! The competition may be over but the climb never is. Keep going, you can do this! Don't be discouraged because others were faster, keep pushing and you'll be surprised how much you can accomplish. Push beyond your limits. Accomplish what may seem impossible. Never give up, never surrender. Plus! Ultra!"
While public broadcasts had ended the cameras kept running. Every single student's journey to the top would be documented, not even one forgotten or left behind.

Round 6
The immaculate teamwork demonstrated by the trio of students showed its results before long. Strapped securely -perhaps a bit more than she'd like- to the mechanical bull Amelia was the first to arrive, bowling the burning figure in the center over before continuing on. And on. And on. Amidst clattering boulders intermittent laser shots shot out, some hitting the figure and others the cocoon. Yet the cannon seemed to be firing far slower than it had before...
As the devastating hits struck true the cocoon hissed and popped, bits and pieces flying off before the rest smashed into the figure at the center, the smoke and flames briefly showing a massive face giving but the slightest hint at what could have been before it collapsed in on itself. For a moment there was naught but a massive smoldering pile before a hand burst out of it, quickly followed by the rest of a smaller yet still massive being. One that flickered and crackled, seeming to shrink by the moment into the steam and smoke billowed out of it.
With a furious roar the giant lashed out just as Amelia's bull finished its turn and headed back into the fray, its flames running wild and beginning to consume itself even as it strikes at its opposition. With flailing arms, kicking limbs and bellows that spit out lava at quite the range the creature used its last moments for but a single purpose. To destroy. Like a child having a temper tantrum it struck all around itself and beyond, aiming to smash, crush or harm everything within its reach. The final challenge our prospective heroes encountered was both the simplest and the most difficult they'd gotten so far.
Survive.

Round 6
Bit by bit the cacophony of booming noises began to die down, replaced by much softer sounds such as coughing and wheezing. In part due to the majority of the false orbs being thrown around to devastating and in part due to the gas filling up ever more of the arena. Whichever plan our intrepid survivors were about to execute would have to be done fast, for the only alternative was one far more permanent than their current captivity.
"...I'm speechless. Truly, I have learned much today. I believed I had no expectations for any of you yet clearly I must have. What else could explain the disappointment I feel over your performance? From the bottom of my heart: I'm glad I won't have to pay any of you for this."
With a staticky sound the microphone went offline once more, the silence afterwards hanging almost as heavy in the air as the gas filling the lungs of any unlucky enough to be too close to the ground for their own good. With their shared survival on the line cooperation was the way to go and soon a rallying cry rang out, one that set off a cascade of actions all taking place at the same time!
"Fuck you ShadeShaper! I'm taking you down with me!"
"Not if I get you first, Arsewipe!"
"It's Arseni- Forget it, just die already!"
As some of the remaining orbs and a wide variety of items were put to good(?) use the true orb reached the apex of its flight, hanging motionless for just a moment before beginning its descent. With the sole way out of this death trap being seconds away from shattering on the floor it was now or never.
Do or die. Whether the orb reached the plinth or not, one way or another the competition would end within the minute.

Round 6
Storm cloud continued to swirl around the mountaintop, rain seeming to lighten and intensify in tune with the chords of Raging Winds' song. Lightning struck at seemingly random locations, most hitting the circular peak but some striking randomly all across the mountainside. Shards of rock and stone flew all around, both from lightning shattering stone and carried by the furious gales.
On one end of the peak four protrusions grew followed by a fifth diagonally from it, slowly rising up into the shape of fingers as if the peak was the palm of a giant hand.
"Rise. Rise forevermore. Today you climb, striving to reach the top and then struggling to maintain your place at the peak. This is not a one time thing. It is a fight that continues as long as you breathe. Do not give up young heroes, for it is through eternally reaching higher that you may find yourself having become the very peak others reach for. The bedrock holding up our hopes and dreams. Never give up. Reach beyond your limits. Say it with me everyone! PLUS! ULTRA!"
The storm endured yet so did the contestants, even as the giant timer in the sky that slowly became visible as the clouds expended their charges and thinned ticked down to herald the end of the competition.
"Even if the peak is beyond your reach do not give up. Prove to yourself that you can do this, no matter how long it may take. Never give up. Never surrender."
Windfall seemed to take a deep breath. When she continued to speak it seemed from the heart, her words weighing as heavy as the mantle that would one day be placed upon the prospective heroes' shoulders.
"One day, somebody will pray for a miracle, pray for something to save them... and that prayer will be answered because you will show up. That's how it works, because that's what a hero is."
