Ylva would blink slowly at Misaki. Was Andy's stupidity rubbing off on her? It was a dumb question but at least Misaki herself wasn't annoying. "Absolutely nothing. Lets get to it. I haven't had lunch today so I want to be done here in the next hour." As confident as ever, she didn't believe it would take that long. Maybe Misaki but definitely not her.[break][break]
She frowned as Misaki began to explain in her usual roundabout over the over-the-top way. If she wanted to become an actress instead of a Pro Hero Ylva, she wouldn't have doubted it. She reminded her of a theater kid she knew back home. Tall, blonde, annoying. Nevermind that she would humor Misaki for a moment with the high five, but if Misaki had any sense, she would recognize that Ylva was starting to get more fed up. When she tried to make the half heart, Ylva pulled her hand away and flatly said, "Get to the point." Misaki promptly did "...So a countermove? Could have said that from the start."[break][break]
Ylva paused for a moment; she had some ideas, but the best one was something she could use on Misaki. "Winter's Grasp." She already had a name. "I'll super condense my quirk's effect into a small area. The thing I'm lacking is something stronger than my usual freeze. It has a wide range, but it's fairly minimal. I need something that's still instant but-" it clicked and Misaki would be able to tell. "I'm ready to practice."[break][break]

"Then I'd stick with them. I'm not interested in making friends; that should be clear by now." Jun had been paired up with her over and over again. By now, she was either ignorant or stupid about the fact that Ylva didn't want to make nice. Sure, she wasn't as antagonistic as she was even a few months ago, but that didn't mean she was interested in friendship. Her shoulders would slump. "I know how conversations work. I'm just not interested in having one."[break][break]
Ultimately, a mix of surprise and irritation washed over her as Jun caught onto her quirk. On the one hand, it was slightly impressive to deduce that, but on the other hand, Jun had experienced it more than most students, so what took her so long? [break][break]
She did have a point, though. Focusing on the spaces in between might be the key to getting over this hump. After a long pause she uttered "You can drop the shields." Ylva would hold open a palm and focus on the area right above it. The diamond dust would shimmer brightly at first, but as she condensed it further, the sheen got smaller and smaller. It wasn't that they were going away they were just being compressed and she used her energy to navigate the space between overlapping the energy on itself. It was working.[break][break]

Not breaking her stance, she would sigh and reply, "If I knew how, I wouldn't be here training, would I?" It was definitely a harmless question, but in Ylva's eyes, it was a dumb one. It's not nearly as dumb as anything Masao would ask, but it's pretty close. At least Jun was just slightly less preachy than Andy, which was the silver lining to this unfortunate situation, if there ever was one. [break][break]
She'd raise an eyebrow at Jun's notion that she'd die. A quirk that would kill someone seemed like a massive overexaggeration. "Then don't make a move." If Ylva ever felt that she couldn't do something, she just wouldn't do it. "You ask too many questions." Ylva added wanting to get through this as fast as possible. Once she got this third supermove she could work on improving the rest of her quirk. [break][break]
The all too familiar diamond dust swirled around her as Ylva mentally clenched, which caused the shimmering air to freeze in a circle around her, covering Jun's shields in a layer of ice. Ylva's brow furled as she relaxed, letting the ice melt away into water. She had an idea in her head on how to do this, but it was much different trying to make that a reality. Being able to reverse engineer her quirk was one thing, and being able to condense the energy to cause a deeper freeze. "Keep the shields up." this time she would try something different, she needed a more subtle touch.[break][break]

[attr=class,bulk] "You can tell her yourself. I didn't ask her anything she told me." It happened a lot with these two. Ylva didn't really seek them out for anything, but she had slowly become used to them. Especially after the Sports Festival, she had become just a little bit easier to agree to things like girls' night. Normally, this would be where she would put Andy down for claiming she's not naive, but ultimately, she held her tongue. Certainly, Andy would do something even more stupid that would warrant some commentary. That is pretty much guaranteed. [break][break] She would stare blankly at Masao as she watched her struggle to deactivate her quirk. Silently looking at her, unlike her usual looking through her, she waited for the giant geek to make some excuse. "Uh-huh." For the moment, she would steer clear of Masao's quirk. If she wanted to get herself hurt, that was on her, and Ylva wanted no part of it.[break][break] As Masao began to yap, instead of shutting her down, Ylva would listen. She couldn't deny that she was curious as to what kind of motivation would cause Masao to act like she did during their match. She acted more recklessly than Ylva had ever been and if throwing her armor away was intentional then there had to be a real motivation. After listening, she stayed silent for a minute, thinking about how to answer as she didn't want to ridicule Masao. Heck, she didn't even want to insult her as she could understand family pressure...this prompted her to take out her phone for a moment and check the call log. Still nothing from her mom or dad.[break][break] "It's energy. Not ice." She was clearly talking about her quirk, and perhaps it was Masao's vulnerability rubbing off on her, but she hadn't shared this information willingly with anyone until now. She didn't feel like sharing more or anything about her thought process as, in her eyes, Masao had learned enough, but perhaps that was enough...[break][break] Like a true spark, the energy flared to life as a billowing flame; the force of the heat, while not enough to burn either of them, made the fall feel like summer as the hair was blown back. She held herself perfectly still, unwilling to disrupt the flow of energy, and once she realized it had stabilized, she took a step back, and the result was that the flames grew smaller. She may have been able to access the other part of the energy spectrum, but it looked like the rules of her quirk still applied; moving too much caused the flames to weaken. [break][break] As much as it was a dream to fight Andy again she didn't feel like she was into it that was until she implied that anything she created was subpar. "Subpar? Me?" She would take a few steps back and face Andy, her expression focusing to a point, "Don't blame me for what happens next." Making a fist and cocking her arm back the red/orange energy would flow out slowly and first and then shoot out forcefully like a jet turbine. Ylva took heavy steps forward and then thrust her fist toward Masao, fire shooting off like a hose in her direction as Ylva planted her feet. As long as she didn't move she could keep this going. Masao Ando was going to find out exactly why she was going to be number 1. Ylva internally sighed. Misaki was bad enough to ask questions about her personal life and didn't even get her started on Andy's existence. Jun, as always, was an absolute mess but she was useful for the purposes of this. Her ability to use projectiles meant she could test out her Super Move concept without too much damage. Normally, this is where she'd say Jun was pathetic, but she didn't feel like that, in this moment, would be productive, especially if she wanted actually to get something done. Ultimately it didn't matter who took her up on her offer. At this point, the only person she didn't want to deal with was Khepri...well, actually, that wasn't entirely true. She just wouldn't feel obligated to turn them back to normal instead of leaving them as a popsicle. Between Burning Hell and Winter's Grasp, her previous super moves, she had new tools to deal with another situation like Dream World if it came up. "For someone who 'detests' recklessness, you're taking an awfully casual approach to this, Andy." There wasn't any malice in her voice, she was making conversation...wait why was she making conversation? It was true that Ando was a little less annoying lately, but big emphasis on "a little". Still, they were here for a mutually beneficial goal, and whether they liked each other or not (it was not), they had something more important to deal with. "I don't care. Misaki just warned me it might get in the way of training." She was still focused on her energy output "No, I trust Misaki with a lot of things. Talking about my personal life is not one of them. Seems like the Sports Festival didn't change anything about how naive you are." She'd frown again momentarily looking down at the armor Masao had summoned for her. "Now get this off of me." It wasn't out of disdain or disgust she was more interested in seeing if the trigger for this really had to do with her emotional state or if Andy's interference was messing with her quirk.[break][break]
The heat was definitely a surprise, and once the armor faded, Ylva would find her energy slowing shift back to its normal blue. "It is." She was still working out the details of how but Andy's genuine compliment without any unnecessary prattle did catch her off guard, which in turn pushed the energy slightly back towards the red/orange color. Huh. "Really? The one time you don't have some sort of lecture? Full of surprises today." Ylva would close her hands and take another deep breath letting the energy fade. She would observe Andy's new technique and make a note of the circle it formed, taking a step inside and donning armor once more and then stepping outside and watching her armor peel off. "Seems effective enough. It doesn't hurt; it's the opposite." She did feel reinforced when she stepped inside the circle.[break][break]
"I'm going again. This time full output." Ylva would open her palms towards the sky, and energy would once again flow into the air, this time she thought of exactly what she was feeling the moment Andy put that armor on her, and right on cue, the energy turned red/orange, except this time, the heat output was nearly doubled. "Someone who surrounds themselves with weaklings doesn't have the right to talk." She spit out a tiny bit of blood drawn from Masao's strike. "You're a dull blade." Her eyes narrowed as she tightened her grip on Masao's cuffs and lifted her higher in direct defiance of her feeble attempts to free herself. She was entirely locked in, her wrath and everything she'd built up over the years being aimed at Masao. All the long nights of studying, the harsh training, the lack of companionship. Whether she knew it or not, she was just like Masao - forced down a path she didn't choose.[break][break]
She would steel herself further, knowing that her parents were watching her. After her outburst at Shiketsu, when that kid mocked her grandfather, and she brutalized him in response, she shoved her emotions further down, refusing to lose control like that ever again. If Masao foolishly donned her armor, she would respond in kind and freeze her enough for her to toss her out of the ring without effort. With her focus on Masao, she wasn't aware of Michael's approach until it was too late. [break][break]
She was out. She took a moment to look around and saw that Kei was still in the arena, but this didn't quell her frustration. Her team won, but she lost. Her eyes scanned the crowd and she made the briefest of eye contact with her dad who simply stood up and proceeded to leave. Balling her fist up and gritting her teeth, she stood up and made her way out of the arena. If Masao did get a look at her, she'd see something she'd never seen before and likely wouldn't see again.[break][break]

As chatty as ever, Ylva would give Misaki a nod to acknowledge her. Between her and Masao, she was preferrable as her chattiness wasn't intrusive; she was just peppy. Her question was, however, not welcome, and Ylva would simply reply, "What you find interesting and what I do are completely different, so no." Masao's red face confirmed that Ylva needed to know Misaki was telling the truth. Personally, she wasn't interested in discussing further as she didn't particularly care for romance and even more so Masao's romance. "If you say so." She'd roll her eyes slightly and then continue "Doesn't matter as long as you can focus. Otherwise, I'll just call Misaki." She was perfectly fine with working with Misaki if Andy wasn't up to it but her attempts at creating something new said otherwise. Ylva would watch intently as Masao managed to create a spark of something.[break][break]
"That's it, huh? Light." She nearly scoffed at the idea that Masao was someone who could/would compete with her. It did, however, give Ylva an idea. All this time with her quirk she had defaulted to forcing it. She forced her energy out and then forced it to snap freeze her target. It was effective sure, but it made her a bit of a sitting duck - it was something she needed to change. So, instead of forcing the energy out, she focused on her palm, taking deep rhythmic breaths and waiting for something. [break][break]
The something would manifest shortly after small wisps of blue energy coming out of her palm and floating into the air. As she focused more, the energy would respond and produce more. Slowly she would close her palm and relax her focus which caused the energy to disappear as quickly as it came. "That'll work. Try to keep up." [break][break]

The familiar heavy footsteps of the overgrown redwood that was known as Masao Andy near caused Ylva to get up and leave. Before the Sports Festival, that's exactly what she would have done, but just because she understood Masao a little better did not mean they were buddies or even close to it. [break][break]
Clicking her phone off, she stood up. "Wrong as usual, Andy." She sure as hell wasn't friendly but her tone was more neutral rather than the usual spiteful or hateful tone Masao was used to. She'd then make her way towards the center of the field. "For the training, I'm glad you can use your quirk. Thought your issues with that boy you're obsessed with will get in the way." Misaki was great at keeping Ylva up to date with details of others' lives, even if she didn't ask. "I won't start acting until I can get some practice in. Collecting and manifesting energy." Normally Ylva would never seek out Andy for anything. In fact, if she wasn't obligated to work with her due to the terms of her enrollment, she would have moved out of their dorm entirely already. Well, Misaki helped, but she wasn't that important at least not as much as Ylva's dislike of Andy. Even still, she would never be caught dead saying this, she could at least respect her performance in the Sports Festival.
