[attr="class","Farrin"] [attr="class","KC1"] [attr="class","FarrinBG"] [attr="class","FarrinTop"] [attr="class","FarrinContent"] Had the two students not been attacked, Farrin would have explained that he did, in fact, hear people's words drag a bit while in his temporal state. Farrin's mind was always processing the world faster due to the mutation aspect of chronokinesis, but not enough to truly interfere with people's speech. When he kicked up his quirk to full though, everything around him slowed and that included people's words. Luckily, he had long ago grown accustomed to it. It wasn't difficult to decipher anything these days. Similarly, he knew how to slow down enough to convey his own words without sounding like he was talking in fast forward.
All of this, however, was moot in their current situation. Farrin was going to have to all Florida on the giant gator. A spider? No. This oversized thug was definitely an alligator, but somehow that didn't appear to be her meaning. The arachnid opposition held a different meaning. All that really mattered was the latter point. He was an assassin, an assassin with his teeth snapping around the time-turner.
"Well can't say that bodes well fer' yuh, big guy!" Farrin shouted as he leaped out of the razor snare threatening to maim him.
Farrin's leg was caught on a single tooth, slashing at the back of his leg. Pain burned its way up his body, the pulsating beat of heat searing the calf. That was going to slow him down a bit, but it could have been worse.
Farrin rolled across the glade, then sprung up onto his feet. "Get ready, lass. It's that time again," he shouted, waving his hand and ensnaring her in a personal acceleration field. Freja would still feel that electrical, adrenaline-like shot, but at least this time she would know what to expect. With his leg cut up, blood staining his pants, and seeping down his leg, they were going to need to tag team the big fella. Farrin leaned on the leg, putting pressure on it for now. He could still move fast, but it was going to hurt if he took it too far.

Farrin thought himself more of a realist than an optimist. Hell, realistically he leaned more towards pessimism, but whether it was a giant robot adapted to execute quirk-kind or the newest big bad villain on the block, this career choice wasn't for the weak of heart.. or body. Most heroes didn't live to see thirty years old. That wouldn't be his fate. No. He and Sada were gonna grow old and have a family one day. They just had to make sure the world was a safe place for that family first. No small task, but one he was intent on making a reality.
"Yeesh, can't be a fun drawback ta' work around," he responded to the clothing comment, "especially in the winter."
Yeah, sifting was bad. Really bad. Chronokinetic overuse saw Farrin dealing with cognitive overload, where he saw countless versions of the same moment from across time impress themselves in his sight and senses, which sort of short-circuited the time-turner. Yet, somehow, the idea of needing to wear minimal clothing, especially when hero outfits could be so useful, seemed pretty comparable. Doubly so for someone with lady bits. Though, that thought sparked an idea.
"Might be an idea fer' yer first piece o' hero gear. I'm sure the support department could whip up an outfit wit' threadin loose enough fer yer hairs ta' poke out through. Should at least run it by 'em n' see what they think. Wanna head over there?"
Either they were heading to the support labs or back out to explore the main lecture hall. Either way, Farrin was quite ready to give Jo the rest of the tour, but personally, he would press for the support labs. If Kei was there, he was sure the lad could help the new girl out. That would be quite the day one to her UAU tenure, whipping up a proper hero outfit.

No need for a temporal deceleration field to functionally wall the many threats off from the rest of the road behind them, and the civilians back in the safe zone beyond that. Instead, the time-turner could do what he was trained to do. Beat the snot out of villainy - well, pretend villainy in this instance, but he had to treat it like the real thing still.
Farrin burst forward in a blur as Ironclad took up Prism's side. "As a matter o' fact," Farrin shouted, snatching the first of the controlled guards off the side of the vehicle and slamming him hard into the ground, then giving him a rough thump in the gut. "I think it's time we call curtains. This show kinda blows." Farrin backpedaled, snatching the guard's rifle and then stomping on its barrel when he created enough distance. One less weapon Prism needed to focus on.
Farrin couldn't be too rough with the guards. Even in a real situation, it wouldn't have been their fault. Still, they needed to be dealt with if the hero aspirants were going to focus on Bravo. The guard he took down wouldn't stay down long. The fellas were well-equipped. Not all the force behind his jab would actually transfer into the guard. Not a terrible thing, but not good either.
Meanwhile, it appeared Ironclad was tussling with another controlled enemy. He swung his baton, a near miss, only to find her arm on his shoulder... and a swarm of small metal bits slamming into him. Likewise, not enough to break the fella, but he was gonna feel that tomorrow.

Beyond the veil of cognitive overload, he became lost. Short circuited in a way, and wouldn't be himself until he found his way home. That would only be more difficult from here on out, but he was going to need to figure it out on his own one day. Not today though. Today was all about skywalking.
And when Farrin landed he was all smiles, for the moment at least. No crash. No cussing. No more bruises here and there, up and down his body. Just the ground under his feet rather than his arse.
"Eh, well, yeah actually. Me' mind is always runnin faster. has ta' do wit' the mutation side o' me quirk, then when I really fire up ta' full it goes e'en faster. That said, I'd like ta' think I'm also pretty intuitive when it comes ta' the physical stuff," he explained.
Even subtracting his quirk from the equation, Farrin had to be quick on his feet to survive back home. It wasn't only a matter of speed but skill. There weren't many people looking out for him after his mother died. If he was caught doing something he wasn't supposed to, he didn't eat. At least, not a real meal. Theft wasn't noble, but it kept him alive. And after that, well, he was being trained by professional heroes. It wasn't do or die, but still fairly close. Barty was not one for taking it easy.
Farrin pulled out his pocket watch and thumbed the case open. He had to get ready for his next class. "Thanks a million, lass, but I need ta' run. Got Heroism n' Law comin' up soon, n' I need ta' grab me' bag from me' room. I owe yuh one!" He shouted, taking off towards the dorms. Finally, some tangible progress had been made!

Fists flew, bones broke, and bruises were traded. Farrin was caught with a hard hit to the jaw. Despite his speed, even he couldn't dodge everything. There were simply too many thugs. For every hit he took, however, the thugs suffered some twelve or more. Two of the quirkless guys were down. A third with some sort of icicle growths on his knuckles laid beside them, unconscious. Sure, Farrin was only a student, but he was a well trained student. Leonid said it himself, "if this is where you're at right now, you're going to be something extra."
That something extra was Oberon. Farrin had seen it in sifting dreams, times where rose through bleak tides and misery, villainy and darkness, and became a true hero. Here, now, in this time, he would make it so. The cannon blasted bricks and detritus into the air. Stony dust plumed outwards, and Kei called his name.
"On it!" He shouted, darting over to the chain and kicked it up into his hands.
With a tug, he pulled the thug inward, then delivered a nasty kick to the crook's jaw. Kei wasn't free of the chain, but the thug collapsed. A crack echoed up and down the alley, Farrin was thrown back a step, heat pulsating out from his shoulder. He was shot. He was shot! And the suit held!
"Holy shite! Yuh see that, lad?" He turned to Kei, pointing at his shoulder. "Outfit took a bloody bullet!"
The distraction faded, ol' cannon are taking aim again. That was not a blow he was willing to test while actually wearing the suit. With a turn of the wrist, a semi-translucent emerald wall, about one meter by one meter in size burned into existence between Farrin and Kei and the two gunners looking at them. Both fired, but as the cannonball and the bullet passed into the field, both slowed to a snail's pace.
"Yuh alright, lad?" Farrin called to Kei. "That wall will slow their projectiles down but we still need ta get outta the way."

Starvation was the enemy he faced daily. At least, after his mother's passing and his father's arrest. He had, however, gorged on everything in sight when he was flown over to Japan by Above & Beyond, and again with Sada whenever they went out to eat. Though he had a bed to sleep on and consistent meals, training with chronokinesis emptied the tank real fast. Farrin was almost always hungry.
"Sounds great," he laughed, "well, no' the tummy ache but havin so many options ta' choose from n' try."
It was a bit overwhelming. Farrin's ability to endure such crowds had diminished ever since the rather morose news he had received recently, but that's why today had to go great. It had to be memorable. And that all started here, scoping out what goodies were lining the city streets!
"Eh, are yuh sure?" He would ask the vendor when offered to wave the charge.
Farrin was just as willing to pay for snack. Though, truth be told, he hated squid. His gut was opposed to most seafood which presented quite the challenge when living in Japan. But, he wasn't about to say no to sharing a meal with a friend. So when the vendor smiled and waved them off, he was sure to down the first of the little balled batter snacks. Chewing squid was like chewing rubber, but the time-turner persevered.
"No' so bad," he lied through his teeth, doing his best not to appear ungrateful.

Proximity too made it easier for him to sense what was happening within those fields. With Emi out of sight, and the distance between them growing, he would allow the field to drop. It was dangerous keeping personally tailored fields like that up under the previously mentioned conditions. If he misshaped the field, only speeding part of her up but not the other, chronokinesis could wreak havoc on her innards. Blood rushing through the veins at an accelerated pace only to crash back to normal speeds in other parts of the body would result in something akin to excessive blood clotting. Until they met up again, she would have to get by with her own quirk.
Determination and discipline wired Farrin's every move. He knelt low, almost into a ball, then leaped up onto a nearby pipe. He pulled himself up, climbing higher and higher up the side of a warehouse until he reached the top of the building. The vantage point offered him a view across quite a distance. More warehouses, more pipes, but between some of the latticework pipes he saw them. A cluster of villain bots. They weren't like the Victory, Venator, and other bots from many of the entrance exams. These ones were in human shape.
Farrin took a few steps back. Breathed in slowly, then exhaled even slower. In a blur, he charged to the edge of the roof and lunged over onto an adjacent building. He crashed into a roll, an armored boot dragging along the ground and slowing his momentum. He shot up a moment later and sprinted to the roof's edge. He was just above the bots now. Until he confirmed the bomb's presence, he would trail them. There was no sense in giving away his position until he knew for sure where the bomb was.

None of the thugs he had run with were particularly notorious. They hadn't earned the notoriety to be dubbed with some cool, crazy, or cooky group name. Again, all small-time crimes, but Farrin was no stranger to the other end of the law. Freja was absolutely right. Nobody had a say in what life they were born into. Farrin had started with the good life, but that was brought to an abrupt end at seven years old. The following seven years were defined by a rough living.
"I'm sure wit' another piece o' gear or two, n' some more trainin, yuh'll be able ta' handle such threats all on yer own." He wasn't going to lie and say she could have fought them all herself, without chronokinesis. Alone, Farrin probably would have went down too. But, he wasn't about to let Freja fully discredit herself either. The speed was a boon, but the technique was all her. "No real name fer it. Just part o' chronokinesis. That's how I speed meself up n' all. I create fields that manipulate time, acceleratin or deceleratin it. It's easy to throw one over a willing target. A little more difficult n' far more taxin if they resist."
Hence why Farrin didn't just go slowing every enemy down directly. For whatever reason, it was easier if the opposition moved into his fields rather than him trying to summon one on them. Speeding allies up though? That was a breeze. The real danger in such a maneuver was their ability to adapt. Chronokinesis speed everything up, including the signals in the brain, which meant the person would perceive the world as moving slowly while they were rocketing around like they were riding a sports car. Farrin's brain had been adapted for such sudden shifts and grew even more accustomed to the change over time, but to people fresh to his quirk it could be quite disorienting. Once they got the hang of it though, well again, Freja had taken down what appeared to be an experienced assassin in like two hits.
The conversation would have to wait though. The fighting had unfolded, and the enemy revealed himself to the two, forcing Farrin to backpedal further. Distance was no stranger to the time-turner. The enemy lunged and Farrin sidestepped. The gator's jaws snapped just a few meters to Farrin's side, with enough force to snap the boy in half. That wouldn't deter him, of course. Farrin burst forward and thrust his foot into the giant's side. He couldn't box something so big, not efficiently, but speed and strength together made for a perfect team.
"Chew on this," he shouted, thrusting his foot forward.
He heard Freja's call, but couldn't turn to pinpoint her and throw a field on her just yet. Not when the enemy was so close and, frankly, so fecking massive. He had to create more distance, so whether the kick scored any real damage against the gator's ribs or not, Farrin would leap back another three or four paces.

From the look of things thus far, there were only a small handful of their freshmen peers that were fully combat capable. Villain bots were one thing, but a real thinking being was another matter entirely. And if Farrin was going to tackle a tactical opponent, why not start with those that stood among the best?
"Eh, I'll be fine, boyo. I just need ta' know where I stand when up against the real thing. Hero Prep only had us sparrin' our professors that last year, n' you know they were takin' it waaaayyy too easy. Here, well, I know the professors still dial it down a tad, but I hear it's nothin like hero prep. If yuh' prove yuh've what it takes, they'll bring it up ta' the next level."
Farrin was practically brimming with electric excitement. The first two years of Hero Prep were almost entirely focused on honing one's quirk and learning things like law, ethics, strategy, and typical academics. It was only in their senior year that real sparring was introduced, and even then it wasn't often they were allowed to really kick it up to max. It was understandable. No hero prep school wanted the bad publicity that would come with maiming their students, but this line of work demanded sacrifice. They were putting their lives on the line. No sense holding back. Now, Farrin would face professors that wouldn't have to - if he could push them to their limits, they would deliver.
"Nah, I'm goin' solo it seems," he answered regarding the roommate situation.
You could request a roommate or ask to be left to your own devices. Farrin went with the latter on account of he and Sada certainly spending a bunch of time in each other's rooms. Even despite that fact, Farrin appreciated his privacy. He wasn't one to meditate, but he did dive deeper into himself, via Chronokinesis, practicing his ability to read time. Doing that on-demand required solitude.
"Well, 'ere's the dorm," he said as they came up on Heights Alliance, where Farrin would lead them into their own dorm building's lobby.

iroru certainly wasn't wrong. Chronokinesis never grew weaker, even with extended use. That particular "muscle" would never fatigue. In theory, Farrin could summon limitless temporal fields all massive in size, but the strain it put on the time-turner's brain would see him sift immediately. Sensory overload multiplied by however many timelines forced themselves on his senses, which was woven directly together with how much he pushed himself. So many visions of so many times all at once. It was cognitive overload to the nth degree.

A wry smile inched across his face. Miroru had a good head on her. She was one of the brightest he'd met so far at UAU, even when including the upperclassmen. When the threads and waters analogy failed with others, they often pressed for further elaboration. He was not armed with the answers they sought. Theoretical physicists were still debating the true nature of time and Farrin was no physicist. He could interact with the high-concept power, but he did not dictate its inner workings. It sounded as though Miroru faced a similar dilemma herself. Unable to convey the literal and exact nature of her quirked-up senses for electromagnetic signals and, therefore, left to describe it with what senses & experiences others could relate to.
Farrin cleared his mind of the distractions though. As much as he loved quirkology and the many facets everyone faced, both good and bad, when it came to using their supernatural abilities, he had some training ahead of him still. The emptiness of their little piece of the field was replaced with light constructs, and the moment it was cleared they had settled into the space, Farrin took off. He leaped again into the air, catching his steps with fields of acceleration that thrust the air downward and shot himself up. He lunged over a massive block, then kicked up and around a pole, then landed hard on another field and fired him sky high. The next few moments saw him dip around similar constructs and dodge a few moving pieces thrown into the mix. This time, when he was finished, Farrin had landed on his feet.

Navigating the crowds back in New York could be difficult, but at least most people weren't running up to greet you. Here, each and every person they passed seemed to angle in on the duo for a moment of Natsumi's time. In every instance, Farrin had a suppress his protective instincts. Who knew which of the people might be aiming to kidnap some political dynasty's daughter?
"Musta been somethin, always havin so much ta' celebrate, all this food at yer fingertips, n' such a reception," he noted.
The first seven years of Farrin's childhood had been kind of normal. He was born to some pretty famous heroes back in the states, but his Mum had taken on less work to raise him herself, while his Da continued heroing with the Knight of the Round agency... then went and killed a bunch of people and ruined countless more lives, including his son's. After that, Farrin scrounged for whatever he could. If that meant dumpster diving, well, he went dumpster diving. Whatever was edible was good enough.
"Honestly, I'm no' so sure. I dun' fully know what ta' expect. There's almost too much fer me ta' choose," he answered Natsumi's question the best he could.
Apparently, there were games to be played too, but the number of food stalls lining the city streets, up and down in every direction was almost daunting. Farrin had only celebrated holidays the past three years with Sada. Before her, Above & Beyond didn't really do much in the way of celebrating, and before them, he could barely remember holidays beyond staring at the Rockefeller Christmas tree in a torn and tattered coat and a worn-out shirt. Then, again, there were his first seven years with his parents, but that felt like a lifetime ago. More - if such a thing was possible.

The only words uttered by the three examinees were assurances for their charges. Heroes had to inspire hope, after all. Otherwise, their focus was entirely locked onto the task at hand. Farrin kept the crowd in temporal sync so that none were left behind, Miroru marked the paths of incoming danger in the form of large chunks of debris and torn away parts of vehicles with dark silhouettes for the others to maneuver around, and Johanna smashed away any other obstacles that got in their way.
Together, the trio reached the safe zone in a matter of minutes. The torrential rain and roaring winds did little to dampen their efforts. The true challenge came in the form of the stamina tax all three would be made to endure. Using their abilities here and now voided much of the storm's threat, but once they deposited the civilians, they turned about and charged right back into the fray. The strategy was preferable to shoring up the building earlier, since at least they knew for certain their civilian actors and bots would be safe, and this option didn't require a constant effort from at least two of the hero-aspirants, but that didn't mean it cost nothing.
Instant relief flooded Farrin's veins as he narrowed the number of temporal fields from over a dozen to four. Three for himself, Prism, and Ironclad, and one still locking the Black Sin away in the distance. Still, exhaustion was creeping in on the edges of his mind. They had to accomplish their main objective, sooner than later. So, with another temporal push, Farrin saw the trio returned to their prior position, now flooded all the more by the storm, again in minutes. It was time they faced the exam's true challenge.

As a matter of fact, it didn’t feel as though it was truly turning at all. More like it was siphoned out into the ether. The temporal air content diminished, like sucking the oxygen out of the room.
“What in the bloody hell?” Farrin questioned himself as his pace slowed.
He remained faster than many, but he couldn’t touch his top speed, his ability to blitz even the best. Something was wrong. He turned his head to find the source of the sensation. He wasn't only slowing down, but Leo was speeding up. His quirk. It touched time, somehow.
With every step the former time tyrant took, the burning sensation in the back of Farrin’s brain grew. It was a wildfire devouring the earth. Stronger now that Chronokinesis was interacting directly with Zone. Memories from another time, from another story, ran through Farrin’s mind like a film. Fissures across the temporal sea, threads shattering as time itself broke apart. His chest went heavy, Leo only just a few meters back now.
“Two can play at that game,” Farrin cursed through grit teeth.
Walls of translucent emerald burned into existence behind him, spanning each lane, the entire width of the track. Temporal deceleration fields. Farrin’s slow wasn’t a passive thing like Leo’s, but the effects were extremely potent. As Leo passed through the field, assuming he did, and a few seconds after he exited, he too would find his movements slowed.

City boy though Farrin was, sailing the seas was programmed into his genes. These weren't the temporal tides he had grown so accustomed to, but the real running waters of the earth calling out to him. That was half his reason for attending the party. The other half was accounted for by, well, his missing half. "The distraction might jus' do me some good," he had thought to himself earlier. Then, sprinting at time-turned speeds, he had arrived. His gut had tightened, as if someone stuck their hand right in there and grabbed hold of his innards, and gave them a shake. Needles picked at the back of his neck, and he had grown lightheaded. Not a drink had touched his lips. So, while the equal number of familiar and unfamiliar faces stirred life at the ship's bow, Farrin beelined it for the stern.
For the past ten or so minutes, he sat three steps up from the lowest level of the ship's rear, head slumped against the stairway's railing. Inhale slow. Exhale slower. Another yacht seemed to be up right beside them, but he hadn't taken any interest. The hustle and bustle up front was too much. He had grown reliant on the draconic salve to his sifting mind. Without her, Farrin's life before Japan was catching up to him. Random bouts of heavy, hasty breath. An ever-looming fog up in his brain. He couldn't recharge that social battery, and exhaustion established itself as his constant state of being. His father would have suggested he go grab some Jameson. His father was also an absolute shite hawk - a bastard without compare.
The time-turner looked himself over. His pick of attire would probably have earned him some points with Sada, but now the question continued to bang against his skull. "What am I here?" He sighed, wondering himself if that was about the yacht or possessed some greater meaning. The question came and went, while his gaze fixed on the ebb and flow of the tides. He would have to find the hostess soon enough and thank her for putting the whole thing together, even if it wasn't his usual pick of scene (as were most things unrelated to training). [attr="class","Farrin"] [attr="class","KC1"] [attr="class","FarrinBG"] [attr="class","FarrinTop"] [attr="class","FarrinContent"] The fact that Jason was up and on his feet and ready to go in the same moment Farrin spoke more to his inner potential heroics than the sparring match did for Boy-Blue & Bone-Blades. To Farrin at least. Plenty of people had strong quirks, or at least quirks that could be trained to become strong. Only a few, however, were ready and willing to throw themselves into potential danger for the sake of others. Heroism was altruism at its heart. Putting one's own safety on the line in service to others. That was heroism done right.
Farrin darted down the hill beside the fox. While Jason veered off toward Blue, apparently Fujisaki, judging by the fact that the student actually stopped, Farrin made for Blades. The time-turner's tendency to avoid people haunted him on this particular occasion. It had come back to bite him in the butt. He didn't know Bone-Blade's name, and the student's arms were still coming up, the boy leaping forward toward Fujisaki - and Jason.
"Slow it down, lad!" Farrin shouted as he cut across the distance.
"Get out of the way! The match isn't over yet!" Blades shouted, spinning mid-air into his twirl attack.
The repeated tactic would accomplish nothing, even if Farrin and Jason weren't in the way. It was clear Fujisaki had Bone-Blades number down. But if Blue were to set off one of those explosives now, not only would Blades be at real risk, but he and Jason were in the blast zone. So, Farrin intervened directly. The time-turner tackled Blade's spinning top attack head-on. Slashes and cuts danced across his workout attire, drawing blood, and splattering it against the grass, but Farrin managed to latch onto Blade's arms and pin him to the ground. He could have fired up his quirk and just hit the guy, but there was a fair chance that even a single heavy blow in his condition might put the boy out, so Farrin had to eat the damage to contain the threat.
"Now, I asked yuh' nicely ta' slow it down. Yuh', know, think things through. This fight is over whether yuh' want ta' accept that or not," Farrin said through grit teeth.
