She couldn’t help but feel a little proud of herself when he complimented her attitude. She might not be the strongest, but she was far from a lost cause! “Even with a quirk that increases power?” Freja was more of a technical fighter, if she had to classify herself. She certainly wasn’t all about power, and she had lost to ‘power people’ before. Like someone like Emi would wipe the floor with her. Not that Emi was just power and muscle, her friend was much more than that! Case in point, exactly why Freja would lose in a match up against her. Relied too much on their sight? Well, yeah of course, unless you had a quirk or were accustomed to not seeing, you kind of needed your eyes to navigate your surroundings. Especially something as intense as a fight. “Eh?” She blinked her eyes, “Huh?! Without looking? You can do something like that?” She was doubtful, but if anyone could it was probably someone like Sho, she had already seen him dispatch criminals before. “Then, here I come!” Rather than attack him with an overhead strike, Freja was cautious, nervous because she knew Sho would probably pull some crazy move, so instead she tried to feint him and aim low just above his hip. Okay, maybe it was just because she was predisposed to finding tall people a little scary, but she was really surprised at not only how enthusiastic he was, but also his level of politeness. Honored to work with a fellow first year? She felt like she was getting the star treatment here! ''Yeah, a few by now..'' She smiled awkwardly. She wasn't exactly proud of it, but there was nothing she could really do to change the past. ''Look,'' she pulled the top of her shirt aside to reveal a scar across her upper shoulder. ''There was this guy wielding a ton of knives.'' She grinned, hoping that her somewhat grim battle trophy scar could help keep the vibes good and mood light. ''You certainly look it, You've got the muscles and everything! You should work out with Emi sometime.'' She smiled, and couldn't help but feel a little proud at being called a good guide even though the tour was just beginning. ''So it wasn't just me!'' She giggled, ''I knew it, the tour really was boring.'' She smiled up at him, getting swept up in the excitement as she raised her fist a bit. ''Cool flips and sick tricks!'' Freja was impartial, she was neither clever nor strong, she just kind of was. However, oftentimes the disparity between her and her classmates were a lot more obvious on the field when quirks were being fired and activated all over the place and she was just there with her bat and nothing else. ''Oh yeah? So you've been training for a long time?'' They all came from different backgrounds, Freja was a couple years older than most first years so she was used to being the odd one out. Then again, seeing as Pallas here was built like a brickhouse, it wasn't so strange to think that he came from a family of giants who probably trained like crazy... He really was looking more and more like a shonen protagonist wasn't he? ''Did you think up a hero name for when you get out there?'' She smiled. ''I-I do??'' She couldn't help but blush a bit, Pallas probably didn't know, how could he, they had just met and she hadn't told him anything about her complicated past. What he said about her radiating the energy of a flame, it was the biggest compliment she had ever received. ''I see!'' She chuckled, ''I have old videos of it somewhere from back when I still had a quirk.'' She gave Pallas a confused look, then looked down at her bat, then back up at him. ''Aim... Projectiles? Hardly, I've tried it before but I always mess it up in the heat of the moment.'' The absolute irony of wielding weapons resembling baseball bats when she had never played proper baseball before. ''Up first, we have the cafeteria! You probably already know about this one, but did you know they'll accommodate you if you have a special diet?'' She held an index finger up. ''You pretty much have full control over your own meals. Obviously I don't have any strict diet plans, but I do eat a lot of protein to try and gain some muscles.''PALLAS! |

She was a bit surprised by Sumi's sudden shift. ''Th-That's okay!'' She handwaved it, it was clearly an emotional topic for Freja but she was still trying to tough it out. ''Well you know... It happened...'' She trailed off for a moment as she counted the years on her fingers. ''Almost five years ago now! I had plenty of time to grow up 'normal' like everyone else.'' Her gaze fell to the table, she still vividly remembered the day she woke up and saw that not only had she lost her sister, but she was trapped inside her body. A lot had happened since that day. Freja was already browsing through more potential songs they could sing, only looking up once Sumi spoke again. ''Hm?'' She blinked her eyes, secretly kind of relieved they weren't going to sing anymore songs, if only because anything too advanced would show how flawed her Japanese was. ''Sure, I could actually go for some real food too. I try to save money on the weekends since we can eat in the school cafeteria on the week days, but I'll treat you to something really good.'' She smiled confidently, hoping this could be her in to actually pay for Sumi for once. She felt kind of bad that she was being treated to so much despite their clear disparity in wealth. ''W-Wagyu burgers?'' Her eyes widened, ''Aren't those super expensive?'' Her wallet definitely would not survive dining out on wagyu burgers. ''Eh?? You're treating me again?'' She chuckled, ''But you're paying for everythiing, I'll be owing you one, or two, or five.'' Her mood had been on the way down, but Sumi who could make her laugh so easily, combined with plenty of alcohol meant she rebounded in no time. ''You're right, probably never. Very well, I'll be taking you up on your offer, Sumi. Who knows if I'll have such good eating and drinking company again.'' She smiled, raising up her glass into a cheers before finishing what was left in it. She felt bad for springing her big secret on Sumi like that, hopefully it hadn't ruined the rest of their night. She furrowed her brow. ''You know Emilia, wait- you skipped school together?'' They were all first years, but somehow it surprised her that Emilia and Zenkai knew each other, and so well that they would decide to skip class too. She didn't dwell on it though, as she was quick to threaten him when he teased her. ''Do what in my room? You big pervert.'' She smirked, poking them with the end of her bat. ''You're gonna jinx us.'' She pouted and crossed her arms as they patted her head. ''We're one hundred percent going to run into some cartoonish evil now.'' She paused and thought about it before shrugging. ''So long as it's not another lightning quirk. Actually, how about a villain who is super weak to bats? That wouldn't be so bad.'' ''Really? Honored?'' She smiled, sounding a bit unsure. Silver lining, he definitely didn't know her as the useless quirkless girl already, so that was a big plus for her. ''That's a good tactic!'' She chuckled, ''I'm not gonna say I understand villains, but I at least understand the fear they might feel seeing you charge at them.'' She joked. ''N-Not that I wish any of that on you, actually facing off against villains is somehow scarier than it sounds.'' As a person who tended to be very introverted and moody, she was immediately appreciating Pallas' infectious good vibes. For a moment she even forgot the soreness in her wrist. ''You don't? Did no one give you a tour of the school?'' Or maybe he just forgot. She wouldn't put it past him, she had gotten a comprehensive tour of campus and still got lost constantly. It was no use when the place was so big, getting lost was an inevitability, but given enough time surely they would start to get used to their new surroundings. ''That's so cool.'' She said, fascinated by the aesthetics of his quirk. She could only imagine what receiving a quirk powered-up hit from someone with his amount of muscles would feel like. ''Are the horns part of it too?'' She pointed up at his head. ''You know, now that you mention it, it does look very anime.'' She giggled. What he guessed next about her quirk actually surprised her. She looked back down at her backpack for a moment. ''I wonder how easy it would actually be to catch something here if I used bait.'' A round or two of fishing with actual bait wouldn't hurt, especially since she wasn't in a rush to get home and the weather was great today. When she heard something rise out of the water she turned to look back at the shadow that was now being cast over her, eyes going wide as she dropped her fishing rod and immediately reached for her bat. She didn't know what was scarier, the fact that King had managed to sneak up on her, or that he was just sitting there, staring. Was he assessing whether he was going to eat her or not? Was he one of The Spiders? Her mind raced with all the possible negative scenarios as she held her bat firmly. Eventually the silence was broken by a single word. ''Who?''Oh my god he spoke. Of course he spoke why wouldn't he? She was scrambling to compose herself, the fear on her face was probably clear as day. He hadn't even done anything to harm her but based on appearance alone she one hundred percent considered this to be another run-in with a deadly villain already. ''F-Freja..'' ''The day you woke up?'' It could just be the name she was given the day she was born, but from how May was describing it, she had a feeling that somehow wasn't the case, like there was more to the mystery behind her name. Besides, it wasn't every day that you ran into someone named after the day they woke up. ''C-Cute?'' She felt a bit of a blush coming on, ''how? I came right from training I'm sweaty and tired.'' She blinked her eyes as she glanced at the album again. ''Are all those pages filled with photos you took?'' It seemed like a lot, but if taking pictures was your hobby that made sense. ''I see, so it's like that.'' She smirked. She could honestly relate to May's plight and she respected her more for it. It wasn't that May liked taking photos, she wanted to capture memories. It wasn't just taking pictures to fill out picture books, it was a statement of who she was. As someone who had already died once, Freja regretted that she hadn't taken more photos in her first life, back when both Elias and Freja were still alive to even take photos together in the first place. ''That's kinda cool.''''Right?'' She giggled, clapping her hands together lightly at May's elegant ballerina spin. ''Is tea and onigiri your favorite?'' She bowed her head politely as she grabbed some for herself. She was about to take a bite when May mentioned that she too used a weapon. ''No way! You do? Now that you mention it..'' She turned her head to look at the bow, before looking back at May. ''Somehow I didn't register that, there's so many people here who don't use a weapon, I totally got used to being the only one!'' She looked at May, concerned for a moment as she started coughing after her big onigiri bite, but she seemed to have a handle on things so she didn't stand up from her seat. ''That's one way to put it.'' She grinned, ''it's worked so far. When in doubt hit it on the head, and if I can't do that, find a way to hit it on the head anyway!'' Taking a sip from her cup she glanced over at the bow again. ''I suppose your version of that is taking aim at your problems. Maybe I could learn a thing or two about aiming from you.'' Freja was supposed to meet up with Miroru in Tokyo and she was already running late. So much for organizing a hangout before noon. She cursed herself as she hopped off the bus and started into a sprint. It was all because she had been starting to have sleepless nights. She always did when the anniversary of her death was closing in. Almost five years ago now, Elias and Freja was caught in a villain attack and tragically killed. It was the death of the Helt twins and conversely, the birth of current Freja, the quirk fusion of the both of them. Her thoughts had been running wild lately, more so than usual, memories she never knew she had. Things the original Freja experienced that Elias never knew about that added new context to her actions in the past. It was a maze to navigate, and she didn't have the time. Right now all she wanted to do was hang out with Miroru. Meanwhile, in their agreed upon meeting spot, Freja wasn't the first person to reach Miroru, but rather a tall, purple haired woman was. ''I see.'' What Hebiru said gave her quite a bit to think about. ''So even the superhuman is still human.'' She couldn't help but smirk a bit at Shirei's comment. ''Right? Knives are way too common these days, any and every bad guy can easily get their hands on one!'' This only added to her notes about her hero suit, she was definitely making it stab-proof. ''I-I see, that long, huh.'' She sighed, giving herself over to fate as she realized she would inevitably fall behind on her training. ''Huh? Really?'' She looked down at her shirt, ''that's okay sensei, this is a throwaway you can cut it. Besides, it's not like it's in mint condition after what happened anyways.'' ''Pallas Maekawa..'' She repeated, blinking her eyes as she looked up at his hair and could swear it was standing on end a bit, and was that electricity? ''No, no, it's okay.'' She lowered the bat even more, realizing that she probably wasn't in as much danger as she had initially thought. ''You think?'' She smirked, the more time she spent with him she was starting to find his energy and whole vibe pretty endearing. Certainly not as scary as he was charging at her. ''Great!'' She let out a half chuckle, giving him a thumbs up. She flinched when he stepped forward, if only because she wasn't expecting that rumble. ''Oh really? Maybe I can learn something from you.'' She smiled, then looked at her bat again. ''Uh, sorry for pointing this at you by the way. I kind of panicked when you came running.'' She shrugged. She was relieved he wasn't actually hurt, she could never tell with hero student types. A lot of them were good at faking not being in pain, including her. ''Oh. Of all the things Freja had been prepared for today, hell descending on Nerima was not one of them. She had been caught in villain attacks before, but never something of this scale. This was something entirely different. Despite not having a license yet, she was quick to step in and act to save as many people as she could. Turned out having a tendency to get into trouble could come with its own set of advantages too. She was supposed to meet up with Rin, Yunagi, Emilia and Iphigenia-sensei, but for some ominous reason Emilia hadn't shown up yet. Was she okay? Was she fighting against these weird earth golems too? She couldn't shake the thought as she batted one of the golems away from the man who was being dragged into a hole. ''Let him go!'' She commanded, pointing her bat at the golem, hoping to take its attention away from the civilian so he could evacuate from this area. ''Sensei! What do we do? What's going on?'' She called out to Iphigenia while keeping her focus on the golem. She was scared for Yunagi and Rin too, but as long as they all stuck together they could have each others' backs. Still, she knew her roommates wasn't as used to being in the middle of the chaos like this. She thought she heard a familiar voice, but at this point it could be because her life might be flashing before her eyes. She couldn't exactly tell how hurt she was, just that everything was hurting bad. She finally recognized who the voice belonged to moments before he fired off the coolest attack she had seen since the last time they fought someone together. Farrin just kept one-upping himself on his attacks! Not that this was any time to stand around and gawk, she might be beaten, but she wasn't down and out yet and she knew that he had just offered her a valuable opportunity to turn the tables. Shocked to see his bros get sent flying, the thug wielding her bat looked over his shoulder towards Farrin, catching a glimpse of him before he received a kick to the ankle, followed by a kick to the face as he stumbled. Her bat fell to the ground with a clatter, but she was quick to scoop it up, panting as she looked towards Farrin with her one good eye that wasn't forced shut by blood trickling down from her forehead. She couldn't help but grin, feeling re-energized by his sudden appearance. ''Farrin!'' She called out triumphantly, her voice weak. ''You've been caught up in this mess too?'' She dodged as one of the thugs swung for head and swiftly countered with a bat swing to his ribs. ''Do you know what's going on?'' He just fell right on his stomach and his first move was to sigh in relief? Didn't that fall hurt him at all? It certainly looked painful to her, crashing into the floor at such high speeds. Whoever she was dealing with, he took reckless to the next level. ''Pallas?'' She lowered the bat, just a bit as she pondered his name. Didn't ring any bells. No, even if it did she was sure she would remember having heard about Pallas given the fact that he was quite hard to miss. ''I- what?'' She blinked her eyes, using her bat as support to get back up to her feet. To think that she once felt tall when she first came to Japan. Those were some wild genetics all right! ''Yeah, Freja Helt, first year.'' She was a bit apprehensive when introducing herself, she always was given the bullying she had experienced in the first couple of weeks of her time at school. Turned out a lot of students didn't like having a quirkless classmate on the hero course. Then again, all it took was a brief look at him, but she had a good feeling. ''I guess I never thought about who is behind the avatar, I was just happy to watch and cheer along, so I would've never guessed that you worked for HoloStar.'' She was both amazed and completely starstruck. Hopefully she wasn't coming across like an awkward fan or anything! Was her palms sweaty? Why was she thinking about things like that now? ''Y-Yeah! What a massive headache. On top of training until she was sore yesterday, her mind had been a lot more active than usual lately. Memories flashing before her eyes at breakneck speed. Elias's, Freja's, both memories they shared that were clear as day and cryptic ones she was just now seeing for the first time. What could any of it mean? She felt a twinge of pain in her wrist as she went to open the door into the hallway. If only she had a proper quirk, a fancy and useful one, then maybe she wouldn't have to train so hard to keep up with everyone else. She sighed as she pushed the door handle down. That pain was in her good bat-swinging arm too. She couldn't afford to go and get injured and fall even further behind everyone. She had already gotten into enough troubles with villains, vigilantes and what have you, being a student at UAU was stressful! Now, at the very least, what she needed to do was not get into any kind of trouble, so that she could garner some good favor with the school. So, no injuries, no trouble, just a normal stroll through the school's halls. What could be so hard about that? Still a bit groggy, Freja looked up, confused, as she thought she heard someone shouting. No wait- he was coming right towards her! Like a horned freight train of pure muscle. ''W-Wait!!'' She called out, quickly realizing that he wasn't some villain who had snuck into the school and was trying to squish her, but rather someone who might have been going a tad too fast. In the split second that she had to act, she chose to dive out of the way at the last second. Thank goodness she had been honing her reflexes!! Best case scenario, it was a happy little accident and this tall scary guy wasn't going to snap her like a KitKat. Worst case scenario, she was totally facing a villain on school grounds, somehow??? Thankfully, she was holding her bat in the other hand and once she was sure she hadn't been squished, she was quick to point it at him. ''Wh-Who are you?!'' She curled up with her back against the wall, she didn't even have time to stand up. ''How are you so tall?'' She blurted out, panicking, as if she was accusing him of hogging all the height to himself. PALLAS! |
