Eh. Don't worry about it. It's not so much inspirational as like. Reminding you of things I think you knew on some level. It's easy to disconnect from stuff like that, though.
But thank you for listening. I like seeing people happy and succeeding. And not getting ignored lolololol
Not cool? I dunno about that. It made me feel like you trusted me, and I appreciated that. I'm happy I'm someone you feel safe sharing with. Everyone needs someone like that.

"Oh." That... made a lot of sense. "Is that how it works? I thought the labs just had like... a little bit of everything and it was just a matter of finding the right stuff. That... no, that's way more logical." She blinked as the tiny girl set down her device and swirled on her stool to face Miroru more directly.
"Lucky day? Yea, really? If you know what you're doing- is that in question? Do you mean "if I explain what I need" or "I might be totally full of crap"? Cuz I could see that being taken both ways..."
She still wasn't sure she entirely understood, but she lit up at the request for a diagram. She hurried over to Hiyori's stool with a dalmation notebook and cracked it open, showing her the designs for the inverted magnet assembly, designed to induce the rotation of the central rotor. It was basically an electric motor without any controls or power system, strange as that sounded.
"Do you think you can whip up something like this?"

Miroru registered Thea only after she slumped in her newly claimed seat and bemoaned her apparent fate. The glassy-eyed girl shifted, looked her way a moment or two. She wasn't sure what was passing behind those eyes- judgment? Consideration?- but whatever it was, she kept to herself as she shifted her eyes again to study the presentations further.
"I... ugh. Sorry. It's- Thea, right?" Miroru sat up and tried to shake her frustration. "I didn't notice your name on the demo roster, or I would have made a point to say hi. You just here to see the sights? Learn what you can?" Miroru settled back into her seat and rubbed her temples a moment. "Probably shoulda taken a page out of your book. Starting to question if showing off was even worth my time or just shot me in the foot. Zen seems pretty sure it's the latter, if his own performance is any way to judge. And you didn't sign up at all." She chewed the inside of her lip. "Mighta played the wrong hand, here." A glance to Thea. "Is that why you didn't sign up to demonstrate?"

"Aw, you gotta be kidding. Air intake is the problem?"
Miroru sat parked at a worktable in the support labs with a pair of boots beside her, clearly in the development stages. She had one on its side, and there was apparently a set of tiny nozzles on the underside, with what was intended to be a high-powered jet turbine behind them.
The issue was that aesthetics were not playing nice with the amount of air the turbine needed to pull IN to produce the thrust she wanted.
"So what now. if it's exposed, it looks like I'm wearing the goldfish version of disco meets Saw," she muttered, referencing the way the blades would look if left visible, and the ancient fad of having fish inside clear aquariums at the bottom of platform shoes. "But how am I supposed to get enough airflow to move properly otherwise?"

"Ahhhhhhh, fuck me sideways."
Miroru muttered as she sat in the observation seats and stared at Zenkai's display. It wasn't that there was a problem with it- she actually thought it was pretty fucking hilarious, and perfectly in line with the almost terminal level of... well, zen that Zen displayed. But on the heels of her own exhibition...
Well, it made her look like one hell of a tryhard.
She had reasons. It was an invitation to show off, and she'd basically never get to show off that particular trick. It was useless in the field- in what situation did an orbital solar laser actually become something useful, after all? You can't capture villains with concrete-vaporizing levels of concentrated solar radiation- but she also knew it made her seem stronger than she was. She couldn't control all that energy at once, but that was the beauty of a directed solar weapon- she didn't need to. She only needed to control enough of it to point it in a direction and let it keep moving.
But put up against Zenkai's chill AF performance, and it made her look like an asshole. At least she felt like it did. So she pinched her nose and sank into her seat and tried to silence her anxiety as it kicked in and insisted she'd already gutted her reputation for good at UAU.

[Hey! This is Miroru. You mentioned a team event? I'm down. I need more experience. Can you give me any more info on what we're doing or when we're gonna meet up?]
Miroru hit send and tucked her phone away again before going back to working out. She was in her room, doing push-ups at the moment, taking advantage of the current quiet and isolation of a solo bedroom to avoid having to go out into the world for something so simple as a work-out. A pull-up bar was in her closet door, and her laptop was open to a video playlist of science topics pertaining to EM fields, mechanical engineering and the like, absorbing the information as she pushed her body to improve even while she studied.
It'd be interesting to see who showed up for the team event! Surely a bunch of likewise high motivation individuals like herself!
Surely!

"Interesting... it looks glossy and lovely. Is- it EASIER to keep looking nice since it's goo, or HARDER?" She couldn't resist asking.
"Mochi, then, if it's alright with you. Are you sure you don't want your more official hero title? You ARE working, after all. Leading independent study courses for heroic-adjacent topics would be considered working by... anybody else ever," pointed out the redhead.
Then the question. Her quirk. Miroru twisted her lips up and sighed a bit. "It depends. On... the weather. And the time. And the location. I can control electromagnetic energy. Direct current, magnetic fields, light, that sort of stuff. Super useful if I want to turn on the television without the remote or send a text message without digging out my phone, but in most cases, it's pretty useless for captures unless I get to jam a fork in an outlet and they don't, you know. Just leave the area. It's got a ton of utility to like, deny vision to an area, direct evacuations, all the stuff you'd expect from being able to control light, but when it comes to collars, it's just me and the Wonder Twins," Miroru said, holding up her fists. "... which only gets you so far when you're my size."

The light switch, impossibly, was still turned off. Spooky!
"You don't seem okay. You seem exhausted," Miroru stated simply. "Last minute customers? You- work at a fast food restaurant, don't you? Even if the food wasn't ready when they got there, making food never takes more than like... ten minutes, even if the apple pies aren't ready or something. Start to finish, last minute customers shouldn't delay your close more than a quarter hour. You would ordinarily have been back in your room hours ago. You're not telling me something." The little fox crossed her arms a moment, then pushed on the door, intent on entering, and closing the door behind herself. "Tell me your name, and where you work, and why you're actually hours late getting back. You don't seem the sort to take your studies lightly, so why don't you cut the shit and tell me whatever it is you're trying to hide? Do you have a boy in here or something?"
She knew she didn't. There weren't any other warm bodies inside the room, but it was the sort of shocking, easily disproven possibility likely to jar the girl into allowing her inside.

One must be prepared at all times, especially when on campus with the embodiment of a spirit so vindictive, so tricksy and omnipresent, they didn't even bother giving them a name separate from the creature they imitated. All foxes were kitsune. All kitsune were foxes. And Miroru was just as wicked when irritated!
"AHA! The invisible trampolines are TOTALLY your doiOHMYGAWDAREYOUALRIGHT?!" She shrieked, revenge interrupted by the faceplant, hands slapping over her mouth as she hurried over- and promptly realized he was fine after a quick, harmless burst of X-rays confirmed a lack of bone trauma. She cleared her throat and planted a foot on the back of his head- lightly, no pressure, a dominance move, not intended to injure or discomfort. "I might be an idiot, but you're the one that got trounced by an-

WAKE UP WHILE I'M GLOATING AT YOU!
...
Can you really not sneeze in your sleep?" Frowning, Miroru pulled her phone out and loaded a video of some ambient hospital noise, and stepped back to create the image of a hospital operating theater around Sebastian before applying the time-tested frigid aura technique to wake him up and see how he responded to appearing to be inside a hospital suite!
... while he felt like he was laying on grass. ... oh well. It would be an interesting test of his response either way!

Miroru squawked as she was addressed, so focused on part hunting that she hadn't accounted for people already being inside the room when she had glanced over the energy signals present before entry. Nobody had really been moving around, and in sheer shock, she vanished entirely for a couple seconds before sheepishly relaxing and letting light flow normally around her body again. "Er... hello. Um. Sort of. I don't mean to be a bother. I have a very particular technical design I'm trying to complete, but I'm not super familiar with where the parts are or the machining equipment. I was hoping I could find something simple for like. A proof of concept sort of deal? But I'm having an issue finding things."
She took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "I'm Miroru." No family name offered. "I'm looking to build an inverted electromagnet around a jet propulsion system. I don't need to generate an EM field, I want to use one to power the rotation and thus create thrust via the rotation of the propellers inside. But I also need them to be small- I need them for personal propulsion, and I want to fit them into a pair of boots." She cleared her throat, trying to steady herself further. "I've done the math and the numbers work out, but it's the first time I've tried to construct something and I didn't want to bother anybody." Another moment of awkward pause. "Do... you want to help me?"

"I dunno!" Miroru threw her hands up! "You're the one who's acting like your passing the entrance exam was a mystery! If you're gonna make me guess at ridiculous things, it's gonna get ridiculous, Helt-san!" She paused at the stubborn comment, then nodded, hands on her petite hips. "Never underestimate the hard-headed idiocy of a fox."
"You're not wrong, and on some level, they DO still do some good, but it wouldn't take all that much overt refusal to accept shittiness to cull that sort of behavior or minimize it. As is, it feels like the focus is on getting boots on the ground first, quality control as an afterthought, you know?"
A slow nod at her question. "I got time, Helt-san. Take all the time you need."
A guy. Miroru opened her mouth, closed it. Opened it again. Clarification was incoming, thankfully, and she didn't have to navigate the choppy waters of identification. "Ohh. Oh, man. Oh, that's heavy on so many levels. Um. First, I'm sorry, I had... no idea. I'm not... close... to my family at all. I cannot even process the idea of losing a sibling I cared for, much less a twin I adored and idolized. I... haven't got words. I'm so sorry."
Second... I can relate to feeling stuck in someone else's body. I'm-" Miroru paused and looked around for a moment as she crouched, careful to keep her skirt over her knees. "I was born Mamoru, not Miroru." A boy's name. That would explain the understanding. "Okay. Well- do you still feel like a guy? You can totally ask to adjust your gender identification with the school or even change your name if you feel uncomfortable in your sister's identity. Do your parents know?" If she had any issues with the sharing, it wasn't arising.

Miroru slid into the Support workshops without fanfare and shut the door behind herself. She felt weird being here, like she didn't belong. She wasn't here to design some technological marvel capable of protecting heroes or taking down criminals in the blink of an eye. Really, she wasn't here to make anything that was, objectively, particularly useful at all- but to her, with her particularities fueling it, hopefully it'd prove a particularly potent tool in her work as a hero.
... hopefully.
She started by immediately heading towards the well-cataloged parts bins and rummaging. She had a very basic understanding of what she wanted to do- a pair of armored boots to serve as a mobility aid, with built-in jets her quirk could power and control. She had ideas for how she could use her quirk alone for control- build the power source completely independent of the jets she wanted to use for thrust, and create connections between the jets she wanted to use and the power source on the fly, without any technological way to bridge those gaps to prevent possible hijacking- but it was all just a bunch of theory if she couldn't find the right parts.
So that's where she started.

"And I'm telling you that there's something in there the admissions team wanted to see thrive. Heroism is not a black and white measure of quirk functionality. You have what you're good at, yeah, but you're also HERE. You stood up with what you have, brought it to the entrance exams, and PASSED. I don't know if what they saw was a refusal to give up, or a deep commitment to what's right, or- if- I don't know, you tripped and gave the judges just the world's most amazing panty flash and you're here because they know that's one way to keep morale up, but unlike everyone else here, you HAVE TO BE special somehow."
Miroru nodded to herself as Freja again insisted she wasn't that sort of person. "And maybe you're not. But not only do you not deserve to be treated that way, but moreover, we don't need "heroes" like that aiming toxicity in that magnitude at the up and coming generation of heroes. If it's not in you to take them to task, then I have no problem kicking all their asses without my quirk just to prove a point. That shit's not okay, and whether you're okay with it or not, I won't let it stand."
Hearing the quirklessness was a new development made Miroru stop dead. Blink. Stare a little. "I-... but how did your quirk just... vanish? That's... not something that can happen... is it?"
Complicated sure was right.
"Oh! Don't feel bad! It's really complex stuff! You know it's bad when you look at the English alphabet and think "man imagine only needing 26 characters to write everything." I can definitely help with that!"

Miroru barely stopped herself from knocking aloud, and instead manually closed the circuit to Rin's overhead lights, turning them on without warning.
"I know you're in there." Muffled through the door of Rin's dorm room door. Perhaps an unfamiliar voice. It was late- super late. In fact, most of the other rooms were either silent, played white noise for sleeping, or were rattling with snores of varying decibels. "This is Miroru." No last name, She wasn't introducing herself with it anymore. "I know you have a part time job, but you've been back much earlier before. Something happened. I want to make sure you're doing okay. Even hero students can get mugged coming back from their after-school jobs, after all. Open the door, please. Once we clear the air and I know what needs done, I'll let you get some rest."
She waited patiently. She could tell where Rin was in the room, after all- she was a lot warmer than the air in her bedroom and its furniture- and she had more irritating tricks to ensure she didn't get ignored if the tired-looking, dark-haired girl didn't help her get to the bottom of this!

Miroru looked up as she heard the beeping, squinting up at the boy floating on nothing rolling off of nothing into nothing and wobbling as nothing gently rocked him into a more secure state of slumber. Squinting, Miroru noted the similarities between his bouncing and the pliable, invisible membrane littered onto the ground level to get up to his aerial bunk bed. She stood and stared up at him, recognizing that he hadn't at all seemed to care when she yelled. Ear buds? Plugs, maybe? Yelling wasn't gonna work, and she couldn't just fly up there or anything like that.
So she tried something a bit more creative.
Staring up at him, she exerted her quirk a bit to rapidly accelerate all the infrared radiation- heat- his body was releasing. She couldn't affect his temperature directly, but she could make sure his own body heat instantly vacated his immediate vicinity, as well as all the other radiant heat in his little hammock.
Which meant that while HIS body temperature wasn't affected, the AIR around him very quickly felt like it went from a comfy mid-year day to a walk-in freezer as all the latent heat nearby wafted away as an impromptu ice bucket wake-up call!
