"Aw, NOOOOO!" Miroru cried out as the photo finish fell in favor of Takara, blasting across the end with a half laughing wail! Flopping into a tumble into a soft pile of foam "garbage", Miroru giggled wildly as she wriggled back up onto her feet. "I almost got you! Good god, but you're fast. I gotta get better at foot races if I'm ever gonna chase down thugs!"
Stretching, Miroru sighed, but nodded to herself. "That was a good test. You did an excellent job! I'm disappointed I couldn't cinch the win, but you earned it, Takara-chan! I hope we can meet and do this again, too! Take care of yourself, okay?"

"Ironclad, status! How're you holding up?" Miroru called over at Johanna as the last of the thugs went down. She looked across the civilians they'd rescued, and moved to help them to their feet, aware there was at least one more active threat nearby and unsure how long they had before he'd either go down and free up Farrin, or take down the speedster and come for them next. "I'm not sure if it's safe to stay or not yet, folx. Let's all get up and stretch a little just in case we need to relocate!" She clapped her hands, bringing to mind the morning exercises many Japanese folx did at work or at school.
Once she had them up, she moved to Johanna, asking quietly, "If we need to relocate them to the evac point by the entrance, do you think you could provide a shield to keep the wind and debris off us? Or is that asking too much? I don't know exactly how your quirk works, so I'll trust what you say." She glanced outwards, not quite at the right angle to see Farrin. "Do you think Oberon's gonna make it back..? The red guy was... super nasty. Smashed through walls and everything..."

Miroru was not, as it happened, able to STOP bullets. That would be an entirely different branch of physics in which she was entirely ungifted. However, she was able to stop exothermic reactions, and by forcing the infrared heat released by the blasting caps in the bullets outwards to harmlessly heat the barrels of the guns as triggers were pulled, no propellant ignited- and Freja was not forced to suffer death all over again!
As the girl swung to the right and attempted her disarm, only to be forced to deviate into a trip and pounce on him for the knockout blow, Miroru sprinted forwards towards the shotgunner on the left, taking two steps up into midair and leaping forwards, twisting to bring her knees in- and piston them outwards to catch the thug full in the face with both boots, triggering their airburst to add insult to injury by catapulting him backwards into the shelves, separating him from his weapon and dazing him heavily!
Before he could get up, Miroru stood on the barrel, breeched the gun, and stomped on the receiver, snapping the mechanisms allowing it to close and properly fire, turning towards the third thug- only to find his gun discarded and a large knife held to the shopkeep's throat, glaring wildly at the pair.
"BACK OFF, BITCHES, OR THIS ASSHOLE GETS IT!"

"Yes, please do. If there's nobody inside, then there's minimal risk of injuries, I just want to keep it that way," Miroru admitted without reservation.
"Schrodinger. That's a cool name. I guess you're alive in this particular box, huh?" said the redhead, trying to make a bit of a physics joke related to the popularized thought experiment. "Cuz you're a cat and... all?" She trailed off at that last comment about fires being no good, narrowing her eyes suspiciously- and then pulling her head back as she caught the strong scent of gasoline.
It wasn't a smell she recognized. She'd never driven a car, and never refueled one. Never refilled a lawn mower to handle the grass- it just wasn't in her experience, but she knew it was a strong chemical scent, and context explained it once Schrodinger name-dropped the compound... right before hurling a grenade towards the front window!
Her conversational partner was immediately forgotten- in more ways than one- as she pivoted, using some of the lingering energy she'd stolen from the fire to catch the grenade in a magnetic field, swinging the field overhead and towards the canal she'd leapt over before releasing it, sending the flashbang and its many roaring, brilliant releases harmlessly down into the empty bike path below.
Which left her standing baffled as to where a grenade had come out of thin air.
She didn't have to twist around to find the girl- she could feel the warm body pelting away from her on foot, and moved to scramble into the air, each step carrying her higher as she sprinted up onto the rooftops and ran fast as she could in Kin's trajectory. She could feel the fleeing suspect outpacing her faintly, and hoped maybe her own ability to completely ignore terrain while in pursuit might make up the difference!

"Yeah, you seemed far less stressed and more comfortable that time, but when you go too hard, it's like trying to walk on a trampoline- if you go for steps when you oughtta bounce, you just- lose your stride!" Miroru offered for a little insight into the specifics. "Actually, the trick is gonna be to find the push that DOES make it the same as running. The ground pushes up on your body exactly as hard as you push down on it, and that's why you can move laterally. When you nail that thrust ratio, you'll be able to sprint straight across gaps without issue!"
"The idea to get some mobility gear..?" Miroru paused to think. "Well... I can't really use my quirk for suppression. Magnetic fields don't really bother most people; and lasers are pretty much either very lethal or very harmless without much between. So to subdue targets, I gotta get up close and personal- no ifs and or buts, really. And I wanted something that I could control directly with my quirk to prevent hacking or quirk interference- it doesn't matter if someone who can control machines tries to take them over, there's simply nothing to make them work without my quirk powering it. There's exceptions, but extremely specific ones." She tilted her head, watching Farrin stretch. "What about you? Is that why you're working out this technique? To keep the fight on your foes when they try to get airborne?"

When your parents aren't the sort to get you things, you get used to finding movies and books in the library worth your time. And classics are classics, even if they're watched and read alone where your father can't come terrorize you or drag you to "practice" with your brothers.
"I dunno, I feel like that's a pretty solid force multiplier. Being able to fight fast is just- an intense level of advantage. You deviate from all established combat experience anybody's got, your blows land in less time, incoming blows are less likely to land- it's an improvement on every level of combat besides sheer power, from what I can tell. Maybe not great at range- but then, this is all about bridging that gap, right?" Beat. "No pun intended."
The question made her grin! "Oh, me and Hiyori cribbed up the first draft, and Kei's been helping me improve it since. The support kids are super smart and might even be rubbing off. I do a lot of science studying to learn how to use my quirk better, but the engineering stuff is proving more useful than I thought!"
Miroru held her hands up and crossed her fingers as Farrin prepared, nodding to give him the go ahead- and hollering a delighted whoop as he took off! "YES! GO FARRIN! Holy smokes, you got the hang of that WAY faster than I did! You're a natural, Farrin!"
She ran over to where he landed, mind already racing! "So what was the toughest part? Were you pushing too hard? Not hard enough? It feels trickier than it really is, I think- you only weigh so much, so once you know how hard you gotta push to counter your weight, it'll get easier!"

"Maybe not explicitly, but I sure don't mind that it happened. So you can't say you've bothered me, now can you~?" Miroru teased, smirking at Freja as she protested! "And good. You better! Failing tests will be punished with... uh... I dunno. Something ostensibly unpleasant!"
"Yeah, I see it. There's two guys with hunting guns-" Shotguns, in other words. "-and another with a handgun. Where'd he even get those? Those are super illegal. Maybe cribbed from police or SDF supplies..?" She shook her head. It wasn't important. "Actually, I think we go in together. I can stop the guns from firing, but I can only take down one, and I don't have a weapon to do it. If you can get the other one, we'll outnumber the last one pretty quickly. I think that's the play here." She glanced at Freja, nodding encouragingly, even if her face was a bit pale at having lives on the line. "We can do this. I'm right on your heels. I'll go for whichever hunter you don't!"

Miroru picked up on even the slight relaxation and smiled reassuringly as she saw Shikyo lose just a bit of that tension. "Oho~? Can't SAY, or DON'T play? There's a big difference between not playing, and not wanting to admit to playing~" Miroru teased gently, mostly still focused on the actual reply though. "Maybe you need a new demographic for your auditions. There's lotsa bands that would die to have someone like you on stage with them. What do you play?"
The explanation made sense. "Ohhhhh. So the impact of the effect diminishes exponentially with the distance from your body. I understand. Still- it's better to know you're absorbing nutrients than wastefully destroying stuff. It's- a bit less off putting? I'm not sure how to put it."
"Okay, so- do you LIKE candy then? With artificial colors and flavors? Or do you not even like the idea of eating?"

"Sounds like a plan, Dynamo! You sound like you have a pretty good handle on the sort of terrain we'll be working with, even if this specific area isn't particularly familiar. I'll let you take point and direct our efforts as you see fit." Miroru stated, nodding firmly and reducing the display of the area into a little glowing shape in the air between them for quick reference later. "Though- maybe it's better if they know what hit them? After all, a deterrent has to be recognized to deter things, doesn't it?"
As they started, Miroru watched his proposed route and nodded, highlighting the trail with a bright gold line following his finger. "That sounds like a solid plan for a route. While we're en route, I'll give you a heads up about anyone I feel in those locations, and you can make a call about a method and plan of approach- meaning, y'know. The direction and tactics? Does that make sense?"

"Yeah? Well, maybe I could help with the armpack, or whatever it's properly titled? I'm getting better by the minute at developing new pieces of equipment. Having someone with a better handle on the process would be super helpful for me, and maybe some fresh eyes would be of use to you?" Miroru asked, tilting her head.
"I mean, you're not wrong. It just stings a little to be thinking about the fact that I've basically just got a utility belt when you've got people like Farrin around who control- you know- *FUCKING TIME.*" Miroru pointed out, a touch bitter, but clearly not at her friend. "My friend Thea wins every fight she's in if she gets a hand on her opponent. She's amazing. I still have to beat the tar out of people to make them give up."
The idea of a generator made Miroru blanch a little. "No, I don't- I don't really use electricity. I've got a lot of bad memories tied to it. I... mmh... I mean, I could probably at least -process- it, but if I did, what would I do with it after? There's plenty of light, and cooking someone with lasers isn't reasonable, either."
The fox paused, recognizing a flash of what she had just felt in Kei's eyes. "Oh. I- I get it. No worries. I was more thinking of a disguise thing, but I can completely understand the distinction, so don't sweat it. You don't have to explain yourself."
The idea of oversaturating or pressurizing or drowning an area made sense with Miroru and she frowned faintly. "Ahhhh. I got you. Okay. That makes sense. Boo. Though I guess everything's got limits and downsides. I still think your Quirk's cooler'n you give it credit."

Just knock.
Miroru found herself staring at the door to Zen's dorm room, chewing her lower lip while anxiety sparked in the back of her head. It wasn't as though he'd ever given her a single reason to be worried about him. He was exceptionally chill, and aside from barbs about her showing off (all of which she'd said to herself, so no points off there), she hadn't caught him being even close to unpleasant to anybody else.
But he was big.
Zen's size pricked the same associations in the back of her head as her father. Looming over her, without a scrap of sympathy, empathy or love for his child. Nothing but disdain, disregard, and worse. And it wasn't fair, but her reactions tied all of that in with Zenkai.
Which was why she'd come to try to force herself past it.
In her hands, she held a box of assorted mochi, hopeful he might like at least one of them. She'd brought gifts for every other student who's room she'd visited- except Rin, who she'd just been checking up on mid-night- so Zen got something too.
Plus, it made her feel a little less intimidated to think he might be nicer if he had a snack.
So, with one more deep breath...
Knock knock.

Food was an unfortunate necessity for nearly everyone, and Miroru was not among the lucky few able to disregard its importance to her future as a hero. So once more, she found herself in the cafeteria, surrounded by healthy food that didn't taste awful, but wasn't what she wanted to be eating. Except the umeboshi onigiri. She was happy about the two little sour plum rice balls she'd permitted herself. The rest, though, was acceptable at best. Miso soup with tofu, steamed rice with some furikake for flavor, some lightly salted veggie tempura... nothing at all very satisfying or exciting, but good fuel.
Miroru did her best to make the most of her mealtime, though, with a set of thermodynamic, electrical, and nuclear engineering books propped open in front of her so she could page through them as she ate. More engaging, to be sure. She found that study fun, learning how the different systems worked so she could toy with them in the field if needed, or prevent disasters by identifying problems and engineering a fix in case of a potential disaster.
Unfortunately, it also left the redheaded fox in open view for just any other student to stumble upon...

"Powell-san! Rokuhane-san! You're up next! Collect your earpieces and move in!" Miroru clambered to her feet from where she'd folded down to sit and wait for her pairing in the combat pratical exercise. She wasn't exactly looking forward to this. As ever, her options were mostly limited to utility, overkill, or...
Well. She had other options than THAT.
The redhead glanced over towards Robin, recognition flickering. "Hey, I remember you from Farrin-san's hilltop practice. You're the one who uses firearms, right?" Her mind was clearly already fussing through possibilities. "Are you usually like- what's the term. Overwatch? Or are you okay for ground movements? Trying to figure out how I should try to manipulate the targets."
The exercise was simple enough- there was a large number of robotic combatants dispersed throughout Ground Gamma, and they'd be scored on how many they managed to disable without lethal force. The overhead piping and constructs complicated topdown sightlines, and the fox was clearly already doing her best to work around that. As she asked, the instructor handed over a custom earpiece that mimicked the capabilities of a Hero Association communicator for the exercise- one for Miroru, and a questioning look to Robin as to whether she wanted one, or could tap into the radio frequencies with her gear.

"Yeah! That's the guy!" Miroru confirmed, smiling as Iphi referred to Kei. "And thank you! I did my best to make sure they were solid enough to tweak and improve in the future. And yeah, I figure the principal would be pretty grumpy, ahaha!" The redhead grinned and paced along behind Recall, nodding in agreement.
"I know I do. I get lots of ideas for ways to leverage the quirks around me for usage. A ton of it's just from the practice thinking laterally to find ways to keep my quirk useful when I don't actually have an energetic enough source to fuel it offensively. Like, sure, maybe I can't blast lasers right now. I can still look around corners, or scramble radio signals, or get an idea of the layout, or or or. There's a lot that starts to open up when you take a concept past its obvious applications and explore its implications, instead."
Miroru's eyes widened at the description of High Spec, cooing in amazement. "That's so cool! So I bet you've put lots of work into honing your ability to notice things and scan the environment so you have the best possible catalog of details available for reference later, huh?" The fox-tailed girl snickered at the name drop. "THERE'S the hero name! I get it!"
The idea of never needing to forget any of her ideas left Miroru reeling. "Gosh. Makes you wonder how many world-changing inventions slip through the cracks because people forget them before they develop them..."
Then it was time to manage calibration, and Miroru thought to herself for a moment. "Well, since we're mostly just worried about damage output, why not just shoot the packed earth? It's pretty dense, but still will show damage- if we start there, we can see the sort of power that thing's putting out before I'm in the line of fire!"
