When Retsu had put out the request for an assistant to help test explosives through the ENKI system she hadn't been expecting a reply anytime soon. By now she was pretty sure her reputation was widespread enough that no one sane would consider accompanying her for such a thing. So imagine her surprise when she got a ping within the hour. Even though she'd mainly been looking for someone else to activate the bombs so she could properly activate their effects she certainly hadn't expected her new aide to take her request so literally and fail to make any attempt whatsoever to get out of the blast radius. When the exact same person showed up again the next day without even the slightest injury after disappearing in the explosion it was enough for Retsu to suspect she was the target of some kind of sick joke and had taken to the testing with renewed vigor. By day three she'd both put her earlier suspicions to the side and concluded she was fairly certain Loki was involved in this. Then she'd stopped caring and had gotten fully engaged in the testing process itself. It didn't make any sense. Explosions didn't affect people that way. Fire was not supposed to cause results like this. She'd almost thrown a fit when he'd described what the flash bang had done to him. That one hadn't even been on the list of things she wanted to test. Retsu had never possessed an abundance of sanity but she felt it slipping further and further away from her the more tests they ran. With a shrug and a grumble she scribbled down the next entry so they could get to work. {Entry Seven, Day Three: Directional breaching charge test.}"All roite, just strap it to the center of y'r chest with the 'point away from self' sign up against you."

GAME ON! HP: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰ 100/100 No one believes Taro when he says he can't die.
Which was no surprise really. Evading death itself was an impossibility for most, especially in the day and age of Quirks that made murder and destruction easier than ever. Someone can point a finger and shoot a laser straight into another's heart, or bring down entire buildings with one well-aimed fist. While technology kept up with the ever-growing amount of strange powers as best as it could, there were still plenty of vulnerabilities in people and cities alike. Taro was just an anomaly among those people.
Which was why he felt he was the perfect test subject for one Bakuretsu. Even a few days and deaths in he gave her a thumbs up, his other hand holding what he presumed to be another vest with a bomb attached. "Okay." With that confirmation he began to put it on without fear. Or any other emotion really, other than curiosity. Taro looked to the woman as he secured the device to himself as instructed. "What's this one supposed to do?"

"Well, what it's sapposed ta do is blow a neat, rectangular 'ole roite into whatever its pressed against." Retsu replied as if she were talking about the weather. "Normally that'd fook a person roite up. Shock would liquify organs, shatter bones, all the fun stuff. With you? Hells if I know."She was determined to find out however. Who knows, maybe it'll just put a glowing outline on his chest. The breaching charge she was trying to test this time was built for precision after all. A long strip of C-4 set around the edges to make a neat rectangle while leaving the center intact. Well, provided it was used against a wall of course. Retsu highly doubted the human body would hold up nearly as well but that was beside the point. She had several potential uses in mind depending on how it worked but that was a matter for later, first came checking whether it'd even work. Sure, this test was about as far removed from how she'd normally use it as possible but she got the feeling the results might be interesting nonetheless. Who knows, if it didn't kill him Taro could wear one under his jacket in case he got attacked from behind. No one sane would see that coming after all. "Aight, all set up. Ready whenever."------ Tags: Taro Yamada Bakiri Retsu

GAME ON! HP: ▰▱▱▱▱▱▱▱▱▱ 10/100 "Rectangular-shaped hole, got it. I don't think I've ever had a piece removed from me. I usually die before that happens." Taro figured that losing a part of yourself only happened when one suffered a lot of damage over a short period of time, but the most HP he lost at once was when he got hit by a car. He just exploded on the spot then. Maybe this won't kill him as hard.
Making sure he was a good distance away from the woman - she was human after all, the blast would probably affect her more than him - Taro gave a thumbs up. "Ready." Whether the detonator was with him or with Retsu, it didn't matter. It was a bomb made to blow up and blow up it did, in the loudest fashion.
The force of it sent him into the wall, and it was a miracle the impact didn't just demolish him right there after the explosion. Or it was a testament to Retsu's skill in making an explosive that didn't outright kill him. It did leave him worse for wear though.
Where a person was supposed to be, static took its place. With the bomb vest in tattered pieces around him, all that's left was this thing barely holding itself together. It couldn't even be called a body; the silhouette was more so an ever-shifting blob. The only potential sign that it was Taro at all was the fact it was blue.
There was an outline around where his chest would be though! It was already disappearing into the glitches as his body attempted to stitch itself back together.

Retsu could barely believe her eyes. The dude was still standing. Hole right through his chest, entire body flickering like an arsonist in a fireworks store and he was still on his feet. She clicked her tongue. Quirks were bullshit. It was a good thing she'd managed to rent this warehouse by the bay because the tests she was adding to the list -for no specific reason whatsoever, don't worry about it- were a lot more destructive than her own workshop could withstand. Was his body piecing itself together now as well? Retsu's mood soured. If nothing else, she supposed, she was capable of killing him should the need arise. Just not for long. Really, could that even be considered killing? She wouldn't be taking his life, at best she'd be taking his lunch break. Putting that thought aside before she tossed a frag at Taro to finish the job she scribbled the results down in her notebook and took a picture of it just in case it lit on fire. Again. "Roite, guess we're done fer t'day." Retsu said while twirling her pen between. "Dun' reckon ya ken survive any more tests, nah?"She shrugged as she flipped to another page and scribbled down more ideas. Shaped charges definitely had potential. Hells, the wall he was blasted into took almost as much damage as he did. While the dude seemed to keep coming back from the dead she had no idea whether captivity would allow him to teleport away in a similar manner. A smaller charge that'd blow a precise hole through him and whoever's behind him would be a nasty surprise to any poor bastard who thought grappling was the solution. That wasn't anything that needed more testing though, they had pretty conclusive results already and it's not like he'd be in trouble if they tuned the charges a bit too high. Skimming through the notes she'd already made she read the previous ones and added several more suggestions. Rocket hammer? Would tear anyone else's shoulders right out of their sockets but perhaps Taro could deliver some devastating blows with it instead. Might as well add a pressure-plate explosive on the front to add some extra kick to the impact too. Boots with explosives built in? Retsu had no idea what a 'double jump' was but Taro seemed interested in it. Hells, they could even see if they could make him a rocket with it. Rocket boots? Retsu wondered if anyone else ever had a dumb idea like that. Probably not. How would that even work? Would just melt y'r feet off. With him though... Maybe. Big thruster at the bottom and side thrusters for direction? Nah, leaning would work just fine for controlling it. Fuel storage would be limited so it might be a better idea to have pairs of side thrusters to use first and then cast off to reduce weight. Might even be able to get two boosts that way. Would that be a double jump? Triple jump if the first one was done with one's own strength? She digressed. There were a lot of other explosives to test before they got to the weird... weirder stuff. Either way, she supposed they couldn't do any more of that until Taro had recovered. ------ Tags: Taro Yamada Bakiri Retsu

GAME ON! HP: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰ 100/100 Contrary to popular belief, Taro never knew how much life he had at any given moment. There was a threshold of abuse he could endure before just expiring, that much was obvious, but there was no indication on his person of what that amount would be. At best he could guess his current HP given the damage he received already.
Which was a long-winded way of saying he might not have much left. The digital being could tell from how long it was taking the static to subside, and well, bombs just weren't something people should survive point blank. So once his body righted itself he could finally register what Retsu said and agree to it. "Nah, think I should go for a reset." It wouldn't do to test another of her creations if he could just die from a toothpick at this point. The results wouldn't be accurate.
With this in mind, Taro stood from his spot and wandered over to the rest of her bombs, taking a small one in his hand. She probably wouldn't miss this one. Making sure he was a good distance from the woman, he pulled the pin. "See ya tomorrow." And with a wave, Player One ceased to be with a bang, offering a light show to boot for his latest death.
At least temporarily.
Taro would find himself crouched down to stare at a pair of shoes one day. It was very different from what he knew Retsu to make; seemingly having more use than to just blow up the wearer. Auburn eyes turned to the engineer curiously. "So what are these?"

{Entry Nineteen, Day Eight: Rocket assisted boosting device.}
Even as she wrote it down Retsu wondered how much of a point there was in trying to chronicle this one. It wasn't exactly something anyone other than her test subject would ever get any use out of. Hells, she was pretty sure she'd written down a fancy name for it solely to make it seem less ridiculous. Hadn't stopped her from pulling an all-nighter to get it working though. Not that she'd ever admit to having fun working on something this dumb. Picking one of the shoes up she had to refrain from scrunching her nose at the abomination. "Roite, base is just a pair a' sturdy shoes as ya ken see." Retsu began to explain while pointing towards the hefty black leather boots. "Tore out most a' the soles so dey ain't gunna be comfy but it's just a prototype."She added while waving her hand dismissively, her craftsman's pride clearly struggling to get the words out. Prototype or not for it to be barely functional grated at her. Spending even more time polishing the design without testing it isn't exactly something she can justify to herself however, not with how many other projects she put to the side for this. "Instead ah put in a combustion chamber and managed to fit some thrusters without 'em stickin' out much further than normal shoe spikes. Fuel tank's in the back curvin' round the heel." She said while tapping a piece of metal that looked suspiciously like a hip flask that had been reshaped and painted black. "See this spot here next to it? Tap it against the one on y'r other shoe and they'll both light up."Putting the boot back down she took a brief look at the pile of attachments laying next to them. ...She may have gone slightly overboard on the additional options. Whatever, they could wait. "Don' worry 'bout those other things. They're just 'ere in case we need more kick. Let's get ta it, shall we?"

GAME ON! HP: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰ 100/100 Taro tilted his head as the engineer explained, his face blank as several of her words flew over his head. He just wasn't the sciency type and, frankly, he didn't know how much of this information was important enough for him to remember. Not that he'd have trouble recalling the words, but there's a difference between doing that and understanding what they actually meant.
Once she finished talking he was silent for a moment, ruminating on her words as he picked up the shoes. "Soooo... rocket boots?" Why she couldn't just say that was beyond him. It could've saved a lot of time. The additional bits and bobs next to the main piece got him curious, but he ignored them for now as he gave the woman a nod. "Just the boots then."
Instead of taking off his shoes like a normal person, Taro wore the gear over them, forcing his feet in to make them fit. He stood once they were on, tapping each sole on the floor to test their heft. "Can you make the next ones bigger? I can't take off the boots I got." Taro may seem like an idiot for putting the gear on top of his existing shoes, and usually he was, but there was a reason this time. How often do you see characters change outfits in a game? Same principle here, he can't change his clothes at all, only layer additional pieces on top of them.
But given these were only prototypes, he could deal with them for now. The digital being clicked one heel against the other and, just as Retsu said, the boots powered on. He smiled as he looked to the woman for guidance. "Anyways, they look good to go. Now what?"

"Yah, rocket boots." Retsu replied with a nod, glad he'd understood the explanation. There were few things she disliked more than having to repeat herself. Well, there were many things she hated just as much but that's neither here nor there. She made a weird expression when she saw Taro try to fit them over his other pair of boots. For a moment she considered asking what the hells he was trying to do but it seemed much funnier to just let him do whatever it was he thought he should do. "Can you make the next ones bigger? I can't take off the boots I got."
"Ya kent? How does that-" She cut herself off remembering all the other unexplainable stuff she'd seen him do. "Ferget it, ah don' want ta know."
Grumbling about how much of a hassle it'd have saved her if she'd known that earlier she grabbed her notepad and wrote it down. It shouldn't be too hard to simply make the entire rocket set-up out of metal. In fact... She caught herself just before she started scribbling down diagrams. Tests first, improvements later. "Roite, whenever y'r ready.""Anyways, they look good to go. Now what?"Her brow furrowed. That should've done the trick. She hadn't bothered with an external activation trigger yet given that it was just a prototype and more importantly tested by someone that could afford to take some damage. The igniter should've started the combustion the moment he tapped the sides of his heels together letting him take to the sky without delay. Did she not add enough kick for them to 'light up' properly? Ah, no. There he went. The entire process just took a bit longer than she thought it would. Annoying but she supposed that's why they were testing it, if everything worked exactly as intended right from the start there'd be no point in doing so. She briefly wondered whether she should've been a bit clearer about the activation process. Oh well, too late now. ------ Tags: Taro Yamada

GAME ON! HP: ▰▰▰▱▱▱▱▱▱▱ 30/100 The lack of further instruction confused him. The boots were on when he clicked his heels together, just as she said, but they weren't doing much else. Was it a test of sorts? Where he was supposed to figure out the rest of the functionality on his own? Kinda like one of those games that just drop you in the middle of the world, with no one to hold your hand as you walk around to discover what's in store. Taro hummed as he looked down at his shoes. Huh. Had they always been sizzling?
All of a sudden he was off the ground, and he realized then what she meant by the boots lighting up.
Shocked by the abrupt departure, the digital being flailed his legs, failing to get them in the right position as he just flew in random directions in the air. At points he skidded along the walls, his form sparking as the abuse brought down his life bit by bit before he was able to peel himself off. He was still far from graceful when he did, the world spinning as he couldn't seem to find a way to stabilize himself.
Taro eventually came to a stop as he rammed into the ceiling. He stayed there for a moment as the boots burnt through its fuel, before they puttered to a stop and he fell to the floor with a crash. Just like from the bombs from days prior his body churned in static, trying to keep itself together as he just laid there in silence, waiting for it to calm down.

As Taro soared through the air like the least graceful butterfly Retsu had ever seen she mumbled to herself while scribbling down notes. "Hmm, charge last pretty long. Activation speed maht be a problem. Need ta' add an off button." She underlined that one. "Turn the whole thing inta an attachment instead a' puttin' it in the shoes. Wha' else?"
Retsu asked herself while tapping her pen up against the paper. Twirling it between her fingers she hummed in thought before she got back to writing. "Remote activator instead a' the side button maybe? Stabilizers on the side? Needs more testin' first. Hmmmmm."She kicked off from where she was sitting and sauntered over to Taro. Crouching down next to him to see what had survived of the prototype her pen continued moving even without her looking at the paper. "So, first test done. Clearly still needs a lot a' work but it looks lahk it'll function. Y'll be flyin' lahk a fookin' bird in no time."In truth she had no idea whether it'd actually work. Sure, the prototype seemed promising but the devil was in the details and who knew whether or not she could wrangle it into something functional. Retsu wasn't about to give up though. Even if it'd take weeks they'd either make something resembling a functional piece of gear or in Taro's case, die trying. ------ Tags: Taro Yamada
