[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... It had taken Jun way too long to get the hang of these winches, but now that she had a level of mastery over them she could easily move between building to building. It felt good to finally have that down. What she was still lacking with it was her ability to integrate it with her fighting style, which was what she was going to work on today. There was a freshman she was going to do a little training with, but he seemed pretty eager to join her. It'd be a good bit of practice for her, too, as there was still the matter of her being too reliant on her quirk. Granted, with a quirk like hers it was easy to fall back on it and rely on its raw power. Power could only do so much, and if she wasn't careful its corruption would affect her. Or...was she thinking political power? Didn't matter, it was dangerous. She asked him to come out to Ground Beta, thinking that it'd be good to train in a more urban environment, and she'd be in her uniform of course. Not that she had anything else to use for her winches. Maybe that should be something she considered asking for, a specific training uniform and then her regular hero uniform so she didn't ruin it... solaris

Robert Anderson stood at the entrance of Ground Beta, taking in the bustling surroundings of U.A. Academy. The air was charged with anticipation as he approached the training ground. He had heard about the rigorous training and skilled students at U.A., and now, as a new student from America, he couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. His jet-black hair ruffled slightly in the wind as he scanned the area, his vibrant blue eyes widening as he spotted Jun. A second-year student, she had an air of confidence about her, or at the very least what Robert saw from where he was standing, that the second-year student had. She looked strong, and the fact that she was willing to take him on for training was a step in the right direction for Robert to eventually become all that better in becoming a Hero one day. Taking a deep breath, Robert adjusted the straps of his backpack and made his way towards Jun. He couldn't deny the excitement bubbling within him. This was the start of a new chapter in his hero journey, and training with someone as experienced as Jun was a fantastic opportunity. The young man arrived with his training P.E uniform on, looking around the place before heading straight towards Jun. "Hey, uh, Jun, right?" Robert called out, trying to sound casual despite the nerves. "I'm Robert, the new guy. I heard you took up for some training, and, well, here I am." He offered a friendly smile, hoping to make a good first impression. “Seriously, thanks for coming in with the clutch to come train. Really do appreciate it. I’m not much, but I think I can hold my own.” Robert attempted to sound with an air of confidence… Which he was not strong. Not by a long shot. If anything, he was practically on the level your average non-quirk civilian.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... She stopped, turning to look back at the guy. "Yeah, I'm Jun," she called back, waving him over. Out of everyone she had met during her time at UA, Robert definitely seemed to be the most unassuming. Even that Freja girl, who just had a bat that went bonk (and whatever else Ana designed it to do) had a lot more going than this guy did. Jun knew better than to judge a book by its cover, though. If Roberto had gotten in to UAU, then he had to have a level of talent about him. "I'm gonna be training something a little different for myself today, so I'm going to be holding back some," she says, stepping forward. "But just because I'm holding back doesn't mean you need to! Don't be afraid of going all out, I'll manage somehow. This is a space to grow and learn new things." Taking hold of one of the anchors at her side, she pressed a button on the winch and tossed it to the side and took hold of the chain, beginning to spin it around to build up momentum. "I'm ready whenever you're set to start!"solaris

Robert nodded, trying to hide his nervousness with a determined expression. "Got it, Jun. I'll give it my all," The fresh student replied, feeling a mixture of excitement and anxiety at the prospect of training with someone of her caliber. He felt a rush of nerves as Jun explained her approach for the training session. She seemed confident and assured, an experienced student ready to tackle something new. Her ease with those winches was impressive, and for a moment, Robert wondered how he'd even begin to integrate his Quirk into combat.
Her encouragement spurred him on, but his mind was still scrambling for a strategy, a plan, anything coherent. Robert nodded in response, trying to mask his nerves with determination. As she readied herself with those winches, the new student’s heart pounded louder in his ears. Watching her spin the chain with practiced ease, Robert couldn't help but marvel at her control over the winches. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for what was to come. How exactly was he going to start? Robert’s mind raced with thoughts of different techniques and strategies, but in the end, nerves got the better of him.
Without much of a plan, Robert charged forward, his legs propelling him towards Jun. In a moment of impulsiveness, the fellow student threw a punch, hoping it would be enough to make some sort of impact. But the punch, Robert’s attempt at striking, felt feeble, lacking the strength or finesse he had hoped for. It was as if his body betrayed him, revealing such a lack of combat experience and the delayed nature of his Quirk's development.
The strike, whether it connected or not, left Robert feeling exposed, vulnerable, and acutely aware of his inexperience in this setting. Sweat trickled down Robert’s temple as he pulled back, realizing just how unprepared he truly was. "Yeah. Let that be a lesson for you," Robert managed to say, trying to sound tough despite the clear shortcomings of his punch. Inside, Robert cringed at the feebleness of his attempt. He hoped Jun wouldn't see through the facade he was attempting to maintain.
Robert’s chest tightened with a mix of embarrassment and determination. He couldn't let this moment define him entirely. There had to be something he could learn from this, some way to improve. Robert squared his shoulders, trying to regain a semblance of composure, ready to continue despite the evident gap in skill between the two.
“Oooh good lord, I am going to die.”
The thought raced through Robert’s mind as he tried to gather his wits, standing there, slightly hunched, trying to regain his composure. It was a mix of panic and self-awareness, realizing just how unprepared he was for this level of combat training.
Despite the humour in the thought, there was a nugget of truth in it. Facing someone as skilled as Jun with his current abilities felt like diving into a whirlpool without knowing how to swim. He needed to step up, to push past this initial stumble, and find a way to make progress. Taking a deep breath, Robert tried to steady his racing heart, determined not to let this falter define his entire journey here at UA Academy. This was just the beginning, and he HAD to remind himself that everyone starts somewhere. Even if that somewhere was incredibly awkward and embarrassing.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Late-bloomer or not, Jun was more than willing to give Robert the benefit of the doubt. At least...until he threw his first feeble punch. The form wasn't all bad, but he was slow and unpracticed. It was...definitely a little confusing for her. All she had to do was take a half-step back, throw the anchor out to wrap around his ankles, and hit the reel button. On top of tripping him, he'd be dragged partway over to her before she hit the lock button, stopping the process. "Uh...try again?" Where Robert was nervous regarding his standing and the daunting task, Jun was more worried that neither of them would walk away with any level of improvement. While her winches were impressive, their use was something she was still trying to get used to. With that display she was concerned that there might not be enough data to work with. She knelt down in front of him, beginning to untangle the chain from his legs while giving him a sheepish smile. "I-I know that I might have a reputation, but uh. I'm being serious about not using my quirk. My fighting style is more about stalling and gaining distance than it is lasting through a brawl, so try not to be as nervous, alright? Just...set up your stance as rock solid as possible, and move in with confidence!" She was trying to be inspirational, but she was just as bad about psyching herself up, too. Sometimes the nerves were just too strong. solaris

Her reaction was honestly expected considering how Robert threw the first punch, and for a moment, the new student found himself a tangled mess on the ground, courtesy of her winches. Robert felt a mix of embarrassment and gratitude as she knelt down, trying to untangle the chain from around his legs. Listening to her, he couldn't help but feel a bit reassured by her attempt to encourage him. She seemed genuinely invested in helping Robert improve, despite his initial fumble. Jun's reassurance had a calming effect, though the nervousness still lingered. "Got it," Robert managed to respond, trying to sound more composed than he felt. Her explanation gave him a bit more clarity on what she was looking for in this training. Setting up his stance and moving with confidence—he'd try to keep that in mind for the next attempt. As she helped him up, Robert dusted himself off, determined to give it another shot. This time, he'd try to focus more on his stance and approach, attempting to gather whatever confidence he could muster to give it his best shot. It was clear Robert had a lot to learn, but he was eager to improve, even if progress seemed like a distant goal at this point. Robert took a deep breath, attempting to steady his nerves as he squared his shoulders. Trying to heed Jun's advice, he set his stance, hoping for a semblance of solidity. Gathering what little confidence he could muster, he moved forward once more, aiming for a more controlled strike. His attempt at a punch was marginally better than before, a slight improvement in form and speed, but it still lacked the necessary strength and finesse. He grimaced inwardly at the feebleness of his attempt. He hoped it was at least a step in the right direction. As he pulled back, a mix of disappointment and determination flickered across his face. Despite the evident lack of progress, he was determined not to let this setback crush his spirit. He glanced at Jun, hoping she'd see the effort he was putting in, even if the execution was far from satisfactory. Robert's determination surged within him, a stubborn refusal to succumb to the weight of his initial failures. Gathering what little combat knowledge he possessed, he tried to summon his willpower, ignoring the nerves that threatened to overwhelm him. He adjusted his stance once more, trying to channel Jun's advice into his movements. With a renewed resolve, he attempted another strike, this time aiming to combine what little technique he had with a touch more speed and force. It was still far from impressive, the punch lacking the impact and finesse he aimed for, but there was a hint of improvement in his form. Undeterred by the lacklustre outcome, he pressed on, launching into a series of attempts, each one a struggle against his own inexperience. He knew he had a long way to go, but the determination to learn, to evolve, burned brightly within him. With each punch thrown, despite their inadequacy, Robert was determined to extract something, anything, from this training session. Even if progress was slow, he hoped that through sheer perseverance, he'd eventually find his footing in combat, proving that his late-blooming Quirk was not a limitation but a challenge to overcome.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... She took a few steps back, withdrawing the winches and keeping only a little of one out to grip the anchor with her hand. She'd assume a traditional boxer's stance, something along the lines of an out-boxer as she waited for him to gather himself. She knew that all freshmen were green, but Robert...more than most. It was something she could almost relate to, especially since she had trained for an entire year just to get somewhat good at her fighting style. At the very least, he was approaching with a lot more confidence now. She figured instead of laying into him with the chains, she'd use her own style to defend herself. With the first punch she'd hop back some before moving in again; normally she'd throw a jab to disorient the opponent, but she knew if she started retaliating he might lock up. Instead she'd assume the same stance, waiting for the next blow. She'd give him a nod to continue, and seeing more improvement with the next punch she brought her arm up to block it instead of evading. The contact caused a surge of panic in her, but she had learned to channel the adrenaline into the style as a whole. With each subsequent attack she'd use either hand to block them or step out of the way to evade. All things considered, there was a pattern...some level of practice. It wasn't much, but as someone who also self-taught there were gems of potential there. "Plant your feet, put more body weight behind each jab," she says, circling to the side. "If you're going to assume a fighting stance, keep your elbows in a bit more. It'll make the moves more efficient, and prevent openings and points of contact for an opponent. Like this," with the anchored hand she jabbed out, adjusting the punch to minimize damage. The wing of it would clip his elbow, more of a warning than actual blow. solaris
