DEPARTMENT HEAD: Dr. Hasani Serna | Hero Costume Specialty | C- Manufacturing
SUPPORT FACULTY:
- N/A
The Support Department at UAU offers possibly the broadest range of disciplines out of all the departments. Courses offered cover science, mathematics, technology, and medical fields, as well as business classes relevant to their respective industries. The Support Department faculty also has a significant role in designing and maintaining the training areas and simulations utilized by the Heroics Department. Dr. Hasani Serna coordinates these efforts as head of the Support Department. In addition to offering roles for UAU faculty to take on for the university and in various specialties related to the Support Department, there are also IC roles and benefits for students.
TA roles, or Teaching Assistant, is available to Support Department majors that are third or fourth year students. They're allowed to help design simulations for Hero students in an official capacity, assist with or act as a substitute teacher for classes held by the teacher that they are a TA for, and are often assigned to assist struggling students. Characters cannot be a TA for NPC professors, though professors may use an NPC TA. Characters can be a TA for multiple professors. To become a TA for a Support Department professor, a thread must take place formalizing the event between the player characters in some capacity. Notify Samyah on Discord or by DMing Samyah or Hasani Serna on the forum after the necessary thread(s) concludes so they may update the list. TA status can be revoked through IC events if a student violates school policy, the law, or otherwise behaves inappropriately and gets caught doing said offenses, though there is room for discussion with the student's player OOCly on how/if this plays out. Threads that count towards the TA requirements must have been made after the date that this thread was posted.
Honor students are the best and brightest of their year, though multiple students can hold the title of honor student in the Support Department for their respective year. This is simply a title of prestige ICly and offers no benefits. To become an honor student a character can't be in poor standing ICly with the faculty or struggle with their grades, they must have at least one successful gear creation thread for another player character, and they must complete a Support Department mission thread with either a Support Department Faculty member or official TA focused on a defining event that earns them the title. Notify Samyah on Discord or by DMing Samyah or Hasani Serna on the forum after the necessary thread(s) concludes so they may update the list. Merits are simply prestige achievements for Support students that a character has made ICLy through corresponding threads and missions. Characters can have multiple merits in all categories and they cannot lose merits. More merits may be added over time. As UAU is one of the preeminent universities for training people in the Support Gear industry branch of Heroics, one can expect every type of relevant class to be available to students and at the appropriate degree of difficult and specialization relevant to their current assigned year and personal skill level. At no point would these classes be easy for even the most gifted of students. Given the vast variety of classes theoretically available, it is safe to assume most will be taught by proficient and suitable NPCs that individuals can make up at their discretion. However, when a PC faculty member exists that has an area of expertise or designated role with the Support Department, specific classes will be listed with details including the corresponding professor. Each player is responsible for their instructor's class setup and/or syllabus.
Some classes will be mandatory and others optional. Mandatory does not mean a player must participate in relevant threads, only that their character would have to take these classes if they are a Support Department major or minoring in the field. Hero students, especially those that minor in the Support Department courses or those that take elective classes offered by it, are often used as guinea pigs in classes that require field tests beyond what the Support students or training dummies can provide.
SUPPORT GEAR 101/201/301/401: Taught by Dr. Hasani Serna. This class is mandatory. It is held five days a week on Monday through Friday. Support Gear is the main class for all Support Department majors and as such, they have this on their course list each year. This class is part free period to study and work on assigned or personal support gear projects, part networking with other students, part hands-on labs, and part demonstration expo. Students are tested regularly on the skills they learn from their other classes to see how well they understand their curriculum and how well they can apply it all in a cohesive manner.
SUPPORT INDUSTRY 101/201/301/401: Taught by Dr. Hasani Serna. This class is mandatory. It is held three days a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This is a business class designed to prepare students for working in the tech industry. The coursework focuses on networking, marketing, contracts, investments and investors, bookkeeping, and other legalities necessary for operating either as a business, employee, or independent contractor.
THINK TANK: Taught by Dr. Hasani Serna. This class is mandatory. It is held once a week on Friday. This is a mixed-year class for the entire Support Department. This class is held in a large auditorium for roll call and lecture then typically broken up into smaller groups as the lesson progresses into the practical application portion of class that can be held in whatever location benefits the day's activity. The intent is to stimulate new ideas from exchanging information among one another and to encourage competition between the future leaders in the Support Gear and tech industries by removing the barriers of students being in different years or focusing on different classes for their chosen specialties. Each year has an assigned color utilized in special uniforms for this class (and for other mixed class threads). First years are amethyst, second years are amber, third years are emerald, and fourth years are sapphire.
FUNCTIONAL FASHION: Taught by Dr. Hasani Serna. This class is optional. It is held twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday. This class is meant to teach students how to make support gear that is not only functional, but fashionable as well. Hero costumes are the primary focus for design projects, but other accessories are also covered extensively.
