"You know you can't win right. The moment you get a lead I can just teleport out of here," The silver haired woman leading Wildfire taunted.
"Run then. Ah ain't stoppin' ya," Retsu fired back coldly. "With y'r base taken out y'll be outta the picture either way."
"You'd know, wouldn't you?"
"Ah bounced back. You won't 'ave the chance."
Their casual conversation stood in stark contrast to the surroundings. Arrows made of ice and bolts of fire flew through the air on one side and impacts made the floor reverberate from the other. Like the eyes of two impacting hurricanes calmth only reigned around Retsu and her adversary. The corner of her mouth crooked into a lopsided grin. She knew better than most that you only needed one.
The arrows shot out wildly by the ice user were dodged by Olivia, blocked by Flamemane and flew directly in front of Retsu herself, aimed to intercept aggression that had halted before they'd even been fired. Screams resounded from his partner, his red hot skin more than enough to melt bullets and resist burns but utterly unprepared for the corrosive acid contained within Yingshe's shots. One expectation gone wrong. That was all it took in the heat of battle. Had he known the bullets were corrosive he'd have dodged them with ease but over-reliance on his quirk had done the man in without his opponent ever realizing his strengths and weaknesses.
So too was a moment of distraction devastating. With the ice user screaming for his brother Retsu had no trouble lining up a shot, only the shaking caused by the impact of Johnson crushing another opponent and the heavy steps of the giant causing the shot to wound instead of kill. Even so it was enough for to put him on the back foot. All the while Retsu maintained eye contact with her own opponent.
"Naht even gonna flinch when y'r siblings get put down lahk dogs? Cold."
"Well, you know what they say," Wildfire's leader shrugged. "You win some you lose some. Besides, why would I care about the unfinished product when the full package is right here?"
Along with her words a lick of flame left her mouth and her hair billowed with frosty wind. Blue flames erupted from the ground beneath their feet once more as she and her accompanying teleporter both vanished. Retsu spat.
"Fookin' coward."
All the while she kept her guard up. Rui was having the time of her life dealing with her oversized lug of an opponent -one that was actively shrinking as he was forced to stop to try and get her off him- but Retsu lacked her peculiar form of immortality. Even as she tossed incendiary grenade after incendiary grenade into the club to burn the whole thing to the ground she kept her eye open. Wildfire was done for and Willful Wisp had seemingly chosen to prioritize getting civilians to safety over making an arrest but Retsu wouldn't be caught dead expecting one of those glory hogs not to return at the worst possible time. For all intents and purposes the fight was as good as over, the needle threaded and one more enemy removed from the board. Retsu wouldn't lower her guard over it.
No, she'd keep one eye open. Just as she always did.
