Haruto was born into an above average branch family in Japan, who specialized in offering services to those who needed armed forces.  Ranging from Professional Heroes to being members of the Police Force, to being Personal Bodyguards and even to some of the parts of the family lacking a moral code Hitman level jobs against criminals and villainous sorts.  The Mutou family's creed was STRENGTH ABOVE ALL ELSE, almost every member was born with a quirk pertaining to the eyes, and worked in teaching each of the members born into the family a different weapon style of combat.  Haruto's birth and upbringing had him pitted against clansmen who stood head and shoulders above him in size, strength, bulk, and even demeanor.  Having been declared soft and the runt of the litter, Haruto found himself decently harassed by his peers whilst the adults of the Mutou family turned a blind eye to such bullying.

Haruto saw this as his own weakness, and put in extra effort to avoid further bullying.  However in building himself up in such a destructive manner, he lost sight of what it meant to have a childhood in the pursuit of constant training and fighting against his family members.  His body just continued to grow in a manner that didn't befit a masculine stature, but moreso leant towards androgyny.  Such growth continued to be looked down upon, and only caused the family to be far more harsh in his upbringing.  Which only lead to much harsher conditions that Haruto put himself through.

Such high tensions built within the family, until the head of the family grew ill and became bed-ridden.  This had been a long time coming, and his direct son who was capable but also considered a 'Buffoon' was next in line which definitely irked not only the other potential successors born later than him but even some branch families.  That was when the Elder Head Mutou laid out a little 'competition.'  He figured he had a year or two of life still within him, and as such will continue his duties as normal.  However, in this little succession contest, every member was eligible to prove their capability and if they win the support of the family in full, then they would be accepted as the new Head of the Family.

Everyone except the 'Buffoon' saw this as an agreeable notion, and hence each family member started to put extra effort into improving their own standings within their clan and their skills.  Haruto was among them, and saw an opportunity as he found his training within his family grounds lacking.  And thus in a daring move, in the dead of night he swiped one of the family heirlooms of the Mutou Family Sword, along with a spare Grappling Hook attached to a rope before running away from home to join UA University to hopefully exponentially boost his growth to new heights and hopefully usurp his family members within the Succession.
