As someone that owns a repair shop it would come as no surprise to anyone that she'd need to buy rust cleaner now and then. Sure, the frequency at which she went through bottles could arouse some suspicion but she made sure to rotate which places she bought from and to always pay in cash so as to not leave a trail. And hey, who doesn't need some detergent now and then? Especially in a profession like the one Retsu has. While she'd usually refrain from buying both at the same place at the same time she just happened to be out and on a bit of a schedule. Sure, someone might be able to put one and together but in a profession like hers neither purchase was something she could explain away and really, what were the odds she'd just happen to run into someone that knew what they could be used for? As she kicked a perforated bucket out of the way to allow the boy she'd brought home -for reasons very different from what one would expect- to enter her workshop she was once more reminded of the fact that when something could go wrong it would. "And ah'm saying that while that's noice an' all y'r just as likely ta blow y'rself up as anyone else if you use that stuff without proper fookin' equipment. Ah ain't exactly working out of the CAS here." She continued ranting while waving her hand at their surroundings, a large room at the back of her repair shop filled with all kinds of odds and ends, locked cabinets, several freezers and fridges as well as enough improvised tools and half-completed projects to end up on multiple watch lists. The fact that the large ventilator at the back of the room looked like it'd lived through the cold war just happened to be the cherry on the cake.Using the side of her fist to slam a lock open she rummaged through a cabinet to find several more chemicals to bring to the table where she'd already put down her newly acquired ones. "So, kiddo," Retsu said to the boy roughly her own age. "How would you have done it with just this stuff?"------

At the end of the day, Juan was just happy to meet someone outside of the hero pipeline. He knew he was at UA, and he was happy for the opportunity that had given him, but it wasn't like he was some hero fan. He had never even thought about doing support work for heroes before he was told it was a good way to get away from his past in China. Being at that school even for the short time he had was woking on Juan's last nerve. e6aab7
This girl was at least somewhat interesting, and as far as Juan could tell was not involved in hero society at all. It was nice to meet someone who shared his interests without having to be on UA grounds.
"Well, anything can be dangerous if you're not being careful, this stuff is just a bit easier to make dangerous if you're doing it on purpose," Juan leapt up and activated his quirk, flipping in the air and landing his feet on the ceiling so that he can look down at the chemicals available from above. "Hope you don't mind, easier to focus like this." Juan examined what lay before him and tried to figure out what would be the best path forward. "Well first off would be getting the Nitric Acid from the rust cleaner, that way you could produce a good amount of nitroglycerin or trinitrotoluene."

There was probably a joke to make about getting high or turning the place upside down but neither were something Retsu would consider at the moment. All she could think was that if that fucker dragged mud in onto her fookin' ceiling she'd absolutely put a bullet in his ass. That could wait though, there were more important things to do. Things she was far happier to think about than the logistics of how the hells she was supposed to clean off footprints all the way up there. "Sure, wha'ever." She waved his question away. Pushing a bottle filled with a clear liquid she'd pulled out of the fridge and a brick-shaped metallic container from the cabinet to the fore she continued. "Aight so let's assume y'r done with the bottles and fire without fookin' y'r lungs up. Got y'r glycerin out and managed to put the sulfuric acid to good use too. How exactly 're ya gonna use that to make somethin' better or hells, on par with what y'r average SAT team's carrying around? Without havin' it blow up on ya too, 'member, only using the shit in here."She tapped her finger on the table for emphasis while waving her other hand at the various improvised tools scattered through the room, listening closely to what he'd say in reply. Even though her words seemed condescending it was clear there was little heat to them. Not much more than any discussion between passionate craftsmen would have, anyway. Already several ideas she'd barely considered before were coursing through her mind. A nervous energy settled in her core demanding she got to work. It took a level of restraint she rarely bothered with to wait and hear Juan out first.

"I can't promise I can make something better than SAT, those gus have professional labs and way purer chemicals. If you're working with secondhand materials like this that you're having to refine you're pretty much always going to run into the risk of the chemical mix being off. You just don't have what it takes to purify this stuff enough."
Juan couldn't tell if he should ask more questions. He wasn't stupid, these weren't questions a normal person asked. This lab clearly didn't have the funding that signified official support gear. Best case scenario this place was outfitting vigilantes to fight villains. Every other option was quickly getting negative, including the idea that this was for some sort of personal use. At the same time, it's not like he cared all that much if stuff got blown up. If people were getting hurt, that was a concern, but if it wasn't that bad, it wasn't his business.
"Now of course there's the other option," he shrugged his shoulders as he let himself commit to his onboarding. "You're not gonna make better nitroglycerin explosives. So what you do is make unconventional ones. Ones that people aren't prepared for. The SAT for how powerful their stuff is, has to follow regulations and laws. There's a limit to the brutality they're allowed to put into their weaponry. So instead of trying to make the bang bigger, you ensure that the bang is doing something they're not prepared for. Shrapnel, electricity, whatever it takes to throw them off their game. Don't play there game."

Retsu nodded along to the guy's words. Properly purifying things was a process she struggled greatly with. Her methods still had room for improval but said improvements were happening less and less often. As much as she hated to acknowledge it she was beginning to find the limits of how far she could push things before she ran into a serious bottleneck. That didn't make hearing it said out loud any more fun though. With her face scrunched as if she'd bit into a lemon her fingers tapped the table in contemplation. By now she could likely source refined chemicals but it still sat wrong with her to trust someone else's expertise with a matter this volatile. It sounded like a good way to blow herself up, no, she wasn't about to go trusting her black market connections like that unless she had no other choice. Juan's next suggestion resonated much more with her. It put to words an idea that had long been circulating in her head, the concept brewing for quite a while now yet failing to come to fruition. Explosions were versatile. In essence they were a massive application of force caused by the rapid expansion in volume of whatever you blew up. What that release of energy caused was where the options opened. Anything from the engine of a car, the firing of a bullet, the use of dynamite for mining to even the use of rockets to propel something beyond the very boundaries of the world were all made possible through the use of explosions. Through centuries upon centuries of experimentation, learning and mastery mankind has kept improving upon the method of making stuff go very fast and the sheer amount of information publicly available on the subject is staggering. So much in fact that Retsu despite having manufactured explosives strong enough to reduce everything within a room to small pieces or even bring down buildings is still only scratching the surface of what she's been able to find even without tapping into her less legal connections. With such a mountain of possible ways to progress she'd hardly spend any time yet on trying to innovate. The very thought of how stagnant she'd been in her way of progressing made her sick. Just following along a path so many others did as well without thinking for herself beyond ways around the complications. Of all things she did so in the field that interests her most too. Shaking her head she put the thought aside to focus on what mattered. The here and now. "Ah ken see that, yeah." There were plenty of weapons that were banned due to morals. Some like cluster bombs were banned in war yet a smaller version of it was already amongst her arsenal. Others like using gasses on one's enemies was banned in war yet allowed against protestors. Everyone was tied to some fookin' law, whether it made sense or not. Except villains. Sure, go too far and you'll get all kinds of shit coming your way but technically there was nothing she had to care about when it came to what she could and couldn't do. The very thought brought a smile to her face that was decidedly unhinged. "Electricity ain't exactly somethin' i've fooked around with yet but ah ken see a lot of other options yh. What kinda acids d'ya think would work well? Low yield and glass casings surrounded by metal that drops away when the pin's pulled loike f'r sticky grenades could be a neat option. In theory of course. Don't think ah ken make glass even if ah felt like actually makin' one a dese concepts." She lied, she probably could wrangle something up or place an order for specially made glass through some people that didn't ask questions. "Discardin' shite like napalm of course, even hypothetically that shit's fooked."
