Donkei suffers from a condition called Prolonged Middle-School Syndrome, also referred to as “Eternal Chuunibyou”. This non-medical condition results in a blurred grasp of reality brought on by an overactive imagination and unchecked delusions of grandeur. While many pre-teen children outgrow such a condition, Donkei’s quirk has found strength and sustenance in such line of thought, and as such has given his perception of reality a filter of fantasy to fan the flames of his delusions while it is in use.
That being said, Donkei is a kind, air headed youth who spends a good deal of his time with his head in the clouds. Not one to get hung up on small details, he is quick to conclusions, yet equally malleable in his opinions. To him the past is irrelevant and the future is beyond knowing, so he lives in the moment. When his gut is screaming for him to act, he will adopt a line of thought that it is easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

When it comes to Donkei’s physique, he follows the principal of ‘Quality over Quantity’ or at least that is what he tells himself to comfort his status as a Short-King. An adolescence working the fields back home complimented by a Quirk that hijacked his metabolism have given him a well rounded musculature and definition most gym-rats would die for.
While his quirk does the best with what it’s given, it will often model it’s output to simulate the aesthetics of a European Knight in it’s psychic scaffolding. Use of his quirk causes Donkei’s eyes to light up and faintly glow.

Donkei was raised on a big family farm in rural Hokkaido.
When he was eight, Donkei and his cousin came across some of the few kids their age terrorizing a bird nest. Scaring them off with threats of a thrashing, his cousin chased them off, but a baby bird had already fallen from the nest. Embarrassed at his lack of action up to this point, he made the foolish choice to try to return the bird to it’s nest himself. Things were going his way until the mama bird returned to find some dumb kid trying to reach it’s nest with her baby in his grips. And so the mama bird rightfully started pecking at his face, causing little Donkei to lose his balance and fall.
When Donkei opened his eyes it was the following morning, and he way laying in a particularly uncomfortable hospital bed with a cast around one foot. Donkei had hit his head and broken an ankle in the fall, and according to the story it had been a rather close call, yet Donkei had pulled through, or at least he had survived. Despite being awake, Donkei was borderline catatonic and non-verbal, seemingly only able to go through the autonomous motions of habit, like eating, cleaning and dressing himself. By the time he was discharged, he had regained the ability to respond to simple yes/no questions, but otherwise would struggle to stay focussed on his surroundings.
Still unable to walk on his broken ankle, Donkei was prescribed two months of bedrest in the hoped his mind would mend itself along with his body. Perhaps out of pity, guilt, or parental pressure, his cousin lent him an old game console that had belonged to her older brother. The two had often snuck into his room when they were young to watch him play, and so there was a hope it might help him to pass the time. And so Donkei booted up a dated JRPG and started to go through the motions of playing. And like a spark to tinder something lit up in his eyes, a fire that had been snuffed out since the fall. It was at this time that Donkei’s quirk factor awoken within his addled brain. His quirk would attempt to heal his brain while he slept, yet the teen was hooked on his games and would stay up all night playing them when he should have been resting. His family, while worried a little, were simply relieved that he was starting to come out of his shell, and so they simply trusted in the RPG Therapy.
After 72 hours of straight gaming, Donkei finally managed to beat the final boss. To his surprise a new window had popped up on the screen, and after a couple moments of trying to close it with his controller, he realized it wasn’t coming from his Television, but instead floating in front of him. The prompt was a familiar one that would appear every time his character would visit an Inn, “Would you like to rest for the night?” With a hesitant gulp, he offered a nod in confirmation before a familiar tune played in his ear and the world went black. Donkei collapsed there in his bed, and proceeded to sleep for a full day. FINALLY he was asleep, his quirk celebrated as it tried to get to work mending and fixing things, now if only it could remember how things were supposed to be, but to it’s chagrin the marathon of gaming had left it as exhausted and delirious as Donkei. And so with dreams full of saving damsels from dragons and navigating dozens of text prompts and menus, Donkei’s brain sewed itself back together as accurately as it could. When Donkei awoke, he shot out of bed, stumbling over his awkwardly clumsy casted foot as he tumbled out of bed. Had that weird menu all been a dream? As he rubbed his eyes, he realized the foggy haze that had clouded him for the last few days was gone, yet something felt different. As if on command a new window popped up in front of him displaying a simple message.
Blinking a couple times, he mentally tried to hit the OK button at the bottom of the window. As the message faded a new one replaced it.
Looking down at his broken ankle, it was only then that he realized the constant pulsing ache in his wounded limb had subsided. It still hurt to try to put weight on it, but about 14% less. Eyeing his TV, still displaying the final victory screen of the game that proudly read, “Donkei has Saved The Game“ a little intrusive voice in the back of his mind whispered a quiet thought. “Donkei saved this game… now save the rest!” Without dallying on with New Game+, Donkei swapped one cartridge out for it’s sequel. And so for the month of recovery that followed, Donkei would throw himself into his RPGs until he’d collapse, his budding quirk factor attempting to piece him back together the while he slept intermittently. After a month his ankle had repaired itself enough to downgrade the “Crippled” status to “Wounded” and Donkei was able to get the cast off and start moving around. A month of invalid bedrest meant it would take time before he was able to move around like he used to, but to his pleasant surprise he was greeted once again by a little floating window.
And so on and so on…
Life started to return to normal after that. Over time the shift in his personality became more and more evident, yet this was in line with his growth into a budding adolescent. His passion for RPGs never died down, and quickly blossomed into a full blown otaku level once he entered High School. Over time his family just sort of got used to his eccentric tendencies, after all his unique way of seeing the world didn’t really get in the way of his schoolwork or chores… even if he called them “Rep Farming”.

SSS+ Mythmaker
A limited edition replica sword and sheath that Donkei won from a lottery at a midnight game release party. The plastic blade has long since been broken off, but the hilt and sheath still stick together thanks to magnets and hope. This is the medium Donkei will often use with his quirk in place of a sword.

QUIRK NAME: Erdrick
QUIRK RANK:
QUIRK TYPE: Mutated Emitter
QUIRK DESCRIPTION:
Donkei’s quirk has given him the physiology of an RPG Protagonist, complete with accelerated healing, vastly improved vitality and pain tolerance, and the ability to project his ideal self-image onto his immediate belongings through a form of Psychic Scaffolding. His heightened physiology allows him to hold his breath for the entirety of the Water Temple, Keep from succumbing to heatstroke in the Secret Volcano Base and to resist exploding from pressure while storming the Optional Boss’s Moon Stage.
In a similar vein, Donkei’s brain will automatically convert incoming information into easy to understand message prompts that appear as self-induced illusions. Additionally, Donkei can turn his higher functions off to enter a fugue state to perform repetitive mindless tasks on autopilot, like taking a familiar route home (Fast Travel) or preparing a familiar dish (Crafting Menu). Donkei refers to this as “Going NPC”
All of these features stem from a quirk-factor lobe located in a previously damaged section of his brain that connects to the optic nerve, his pituitary gland, and several other regions that influence how his body develops and interprets information.
When active, his eyes begin to glow and his quirk is reinforced by Donkei’s own belief that he himself is a Main Character akin to the media he consumes. What others would see as a stick, or a walking cane, becomes a shining sword in his hands. His familiar school uniform retains a resilience akin to elven chainmail to match his own durability. When others support his fantasized sense of self by “playing along” he is able to extend some psychic influence in the form of message prompts to them. Generally in the form of a “Party Invite”, which allows up to two other allies to receive status updates from one another. This same faint psychic field allows Donkei to sense incoming hostility, snapping him out of NPC Mode and letting him know not to rest while enemies are nearby.
QUIRK DRAWBACKS:
No matter how hard he believes, Donkei cannot cast magic as it does not exist. Donkei assumes he can cast healing magic on himself, but full credit goes to his own natural healing factor.
When Donkei actively uses his quirk, his grip on reality will start to slowly erode into his delusions, causing him to grow seemingly deeper into fantasy and making him more susceptible to influence like illusions and hypnosis.
While Donkei is remarkably resilient and a pro at powering through damage, his healing factor cannot heal him if he’s dead, meaning life essential organs like his heart and brain are just as vital to him as anyone else. Receiving a “Critical Hit” causes his whole system to shut down for immediate priority repairs, though this is a long shot emergency reflex depending on the severity of the damage. His quirk might be able to force his veins to pump his blood for a few seconds via peristalsis, but there’s no coming back from a gaping hole in his breast.
