ayumi's thin pointer finger lingers on the word in the english dictionary she checked out from the library as she walks the campus halls, drowned in early sunset light with every window she passes by.[break][break]
kalopsia. perhaps she was afflicted by it in her youth. to her, her parents were the world. they carried everything in their hands. they were literally the most perfect people she could think of—and not perfect in the traditional sense. everybody has flaws, even her parents did. her mom was a slob, her dad a perfectionist, they fought too much and accepted each other's quirks too little, but they loved each other through everything, they loved her through everything, and it was perfect, and it was beautiful, and it made the world beautiful by consequence. little ayumi saw the universe's love in every petal, every tree, every heartbeat. beautifully and wonderfully made, fearfully so. she must have been a dog, looking at the world with wide-eyed naivety, expecting kindness in every gesture, forgiving the world even if there isn't.[break][break]
you simply can't recover from that kind of devotion.[break][break]
at the end of the day, it was a delusion. ayumi recovered from it—forcefully, of course, a realization forged in the fires of a childhood home burned to the ground. in that sense, maybe she is a stray now, abandoned on the street, eternally and senselessly waiting for them to return.[break][break]

and, hey, on top of that, ayumi is absolutely not paying attention to her surroundings. she's heading right for someone, blissfully unaware, completely and wholly tied up into an existential feeling of abandonment.[break][break]
