Villain is often a term used to describe homicidal maniacs with dreams of world domination, but also criminals just trying to find a way to make a living in an indifferent world. While Marco falls into the latter category, he’s an odd ball. The twenty-eight-year-old man does not really ooze supervillain vibes, at least not in the usual sense.

Marco is unnaturally charismatic, a natural-born leader whose charisma has been described as an ‘insidious black hole.’ A black hole that can inspire loyalty and instill inspiration in those he has befriended and attracted to him. He tends to be overconfident, overly optimistic, and a bit too laid-back at times. Prone to making impulsive and reckless decisions, such as his willingness to attack a high-ranking mobster and his soldiers. Many people often comment that he is insane due to his overconfidence and reckless demeanor, to which Marco would more or less agree with them.

While on the surface he presents himself as being a fun-loving, party-going, and easy-going guy; there is a dark side hidden underneath that carefully crafted facade. For one, Marco is admittedly a thrill seeker and hedonist, putting himself and others in danger just for the thrill of it. Likewise, when it comes to the quote on quote game of “heroes and villains,” Marco has shown noticeable cruelty and callousness. It would be wise to note that Marco was raised by killers and is not afraid to take a life.

HISTORY

The arrival of quirks, while miraculous, was also a detriment to society. The Advent of Quirks empowered terrible people who brought havoc onto the world. During this time, and well into the “Age of Vigilantes,” some criminal organizations returned to their roots. One of these groups was the Sicilian mafia. Old-world survivors banded together with young quirk users and misfits to reorganize the Sicilian mafia. Returning to their ancient roots, the new criminal organization would act as a psuedo police force– protecting their community from the injustice of power-hungry quirk users and corrupt or weak governments.

Cristiano De Rossi, Marco’s Grandfather, would be one of the founders of the renewed organization. Starting out as a solider, and then working his way up to the rank of Consigliere of the then boss Vincentino Panicucci. As a well-respected member of the community and organization, Cristiano held and retained immense power within the underworld. Organizing raids against corrupt quirk users, and helping the organization attain resources. He had the reputation of being the “eyes and ears” of Vincentio, a reputation earned through an intensive spy network.

In 2055, Cristiano married Allegra Panicucci, uniting the De Rossi and Panicucci family. They had three kids; Elario De Rossi, Giulio De Rossi, and Alessia De Rossi. Cristiano conditioned his kids to be perfect soldiers of the Panicucci family. Then later, after the death of Vincentino Panicucci at the hands of a quirk user, Cristiano took control of the Panicucci family. Now the leader of the Panicucci family, Cristiano would train his son Giulio to be his successor. Unfortunately, Giulio decided to live a straight life, forcing Cristiano to settle for his son Elario as a successor.

Elario was an idiot. Cristiano heavily favored Giulio, primarily due to his son’s intelligence and sense of honor. Meanwhile, Elario was known for being reckless, temperamental, and greedy. By the time Elario came into power, society had reorganized itself, and the noble nature of their Sicilian crime families slowly descended into corruption. Cristiano blamed his son’s generation for this decline into, quote on quote, villainy. He blamed himself for his son’s greed and brutality, saying, “He spoiled Elario too much.”

As Cristiano grew older, Elario started to take measures to “phase his father out.” In 2069, Elario married “enter name here” and officially became the Boss of the De Rossi family. While still being respected and influenced in mob politics, Cristiano’s role diminished. Three years later, Elario would have his children: Marco De Rossi, Christopher De Rossi, and Cristiano De Rossi (named after his grandfather). Of the three, Marco De Rossi would be much like his grandfather, whereas Cristiano resembles their uncle Giulio, and Christopher resembles Elario.

Growing up, Marco was fascinated with Greco-Roman mythology, which he shared with his brother Cristiano and Uncle Giulio. Marco infamously claims that when he “grew up he wanted to be like a Greek hero, free and filled with glory.” Often this was much to the amusement of his grandfather, who commonly babysat his grandkids for Elario. Cristiano often told his kids about living during the Vigilante era and mesmerized them with stories about the “golden and noble age of the mob.” Stories that, like Greco-Roman mythology, Marco ate up.

Elario hated Marco. He envied his son’s quirk and more importantly, the attention and love that Cristiano gave his son. The Boss of the Panicucci family favored his son Christopher, and planned on naming him his successor. This fact angered Marco’s grandfather. Cristiano wanted Marco to become Elario’s successor, stating that “it was Marco’s right as Elario’s firstborn child.” This was despite Cristiano wanting Giulio to be his successor.

Arguments and fights often broke out between his father and grandfather about who should be successor– which unintentionally created a schism between Marco and Chrisopher. Marco’s ambitions, however, went beyond the boundaries of the mob. He wanted to be a Greek Hero, someone ordained with glory, power, and fame. Marco desired to create something free from his family linenage, and thus, as soon as he was old enough traveled to Japan.

QUIRK DESCRIPTION: Named after the Greco-Roman Gods of the wind, Aeolus allows the user to harness their willpower, determination, resolve, confidence, and ambition to control and manipulate the air around them. One of Marco’s teachers commented that “it's almost like he is inserting his resolve into the atmosphere and commanding the air to do his bidding.” By controlling the air, Marco can generate strong gusts of wind, devastating air-based shockwaves, compressed air blades and even deadly tornadoes. Marco can levitate objects within the environment through careful manipulation of air currents, propel himself through the air, and blast back projectiles. He has even been known to alter the air pressure around him, and sense vibrations within the air. While the air itself can be difficult to see, the mental effort is known to create black and red “sparks.” These sparks are harmless, visual in nature, and usually occurs sporadically whenever he uses his quirk– often as the result of extreme mental effort.

QUIRK DRAWBACKS: While the quirk is powerful, it has drawbacks. For one, Aeolus appears to be connected to Marco’s emotional state and confidence. When experiencing emotions such as anger or rage, Marco can, in fact, lose control of his quirk. Alternatively, when experiencing extreme doubt and depression, Marco's quirk becomes noticeably slower and weaker. The same can be said for when Marco’s body is bound and subdued. While he can still use his quirk, it is much slower and weaker. There is also a degree of mental effort and concentration required to use the quirk, effort, and concentration that can be somewhat managed through physical motions. Finally, Marco cannot change the air temperature around him, and high temperatures can disrupt his control over his quirk. When he goes over the limit, Marco will experience extreme migraines, difficulty breathing, and physical exhaustion.
