”Oh my, you’re the cutest one I have seen all day!”

Johanna had to make sure not to get too excited as she knelt down next to the small wall where her eyes had spotted a little cute furball lounging in the warm rays of the sun. Red fur with a few black streaks going through it, and a cute little nose that she wanted to nuzzle into oblivion.

She had to remind herself that these were strays, and she couldn’t just straight up start cuddling them lest she wanted to deal with fleas in her clothes again, but the urges were definitely there pushing her.

”Hey, guess what little guy, I got some vittles’ for you.”

A tin of fish-based cat food was taken from her bag and she popped it open, putting it in front of the cat which quickly seemed to forget about its choice of lounging and instead focus on the free meal offered by Johanna as her eyes were mainly transfixed in seeing them do their thing.

”I do wonder where your little friends are, usually there’s so many more at a time like this…

It's funny how those simple little lines she'd simply picked out of her daily horoscope could be so intrinsically tied into the very situation she faces now. Her heels skid against rough asphalt as she cuts right around the corner, her arms bracing the plastic pet carrier within her grasp as frantic yowls fill the air.[break][break]

Murmured sweet nothings will do little to calm the poor critters within, their cries merely acting as a beacon to their location as they continue down this path. Her voice is strained, but perhaps not as strain as her legs that try so hard to compensate for the sudden shifts in weight with each sharp turn she takes.[break][break]

And yet, her best efforts are met with such bitter disappointment. A giant figure blocking the roads ahead makes her screech to a halt, and when she attempts to turn tail and run, she comes face to face with yet another troublemaker. Cocky grins decorate their features, a glinting knife pulled from one's pocket while the other simply cracks their knuckles. All that's missing is-[break][break]

"Nice try, missy."[break][break]

There it is, the antagonistic talk that many small time criminals use to try and intimidate the general public.[break][break]

"I'm gonna need you to hand those kitties back now."[break][break]

She raises a brow, her gaze darting between both gangsters as they take rather bold steps towards her.[break][break]

"And what would you do if I said no? Trust me, you're better off taking the loss and leaving."[break][break]

Seriously, what would they be gaining from attempting to wrestle a crate full of stray felines from her? Ticks? Fleas? A large veterinary bill to foot? A pretty sad profit considering how none of these cats were the definition of beauty that breeders tended to seek? If they could even pull any interested dealers to the table to begin with?[break][break]

The look shared between the two is rather priceless, almost as if they hadn't been expecting that much resistance from a nameless civilian on the streets. Then one finally gathers his wits about him, brandishing the knife once more as he sneers.[break][break]

"Don't say I didn't warn you..."

Her hands brushed the fur of the cat with a content and warm smile, she could spend an entire day watching cats do their thing and right now she had nowhere else to go, so maybe she was going to do just that.

At least until her ears heard some commotion, and as she turned around the cat had managed to disappear into the shadows with whatever was left in the can of cat food, she smiled but then refocused to the commotion.

She wasn’t just a cat fan, she was a hero in training, so she couldn’t hang back if there was trouble afoot.

And as she saw the glint of the knife in the afternoon sun, she’d spring into action quickly and decisively, using her quirk to put a decent sized layer of armour onto her body…

”Hey, don’t you dumbasses know that it’s impolite to threaten girls with a knife!”

She had made sure to drop her voice a little, sounding a bit overly boisterous, but she hoped that her presence might deter them from trying something dumb.

Perhaps, the one hadn't been too accurate. Right now, it felt like the one brain cell shared amongst three people. The arrival of another marks a rather interesting turn of events, the heroes against the petty thieves, the gurlies against the world. What had once been a calculated sweep would now turn into a game of cards, where revealing one's hand would simply be unwise.[break][break]

For any logical criminal, this is where they cut their losses and make an escape. But perhaps, logic simply does not flow within the minds of this duo. The unarmed one goes straight for the other woman, twisting his body as he tries to put some extra weight into his punch. And that of course, leaves Tamaki with the knife wielder, mania now twisting his features into that of a rabid hound as he lunges towards her.[break][break]

First things first, she had not risked her life to simply fail what she set out to do. Following the arc of the blade, she leans back, stumbling a few steps backwards whilst trying to maintain her balance. As she does so, her tail flicks out, readily catching the man midway through his next move and knocking him out of the way.

”Run off lady and go play hero somewhere else, we got business to deal with.”

The goons seemed little intimidated by Johanna or her suit of iron, and one even walked towards her to push her away, to which Johanna grit her teeth and pushed back showing that she was no slouch in the strength department and had zero interest in just walking off.

”There’s no playing here, I got a provisional license and you either will step back or I will step over you!”

She puffed up her chest and swung the ironshod mace around to show that she wasn’t playing around, and finally it seemed to dawn upon the criminals that she was serious… Although it became clear that such a realisation didn’t come with a choice of running away, but rather an attempt to escalate matters further.

One threw a punch, and Johanna could feel the crack of his fist hit the steel plate that covered her chest, followed by a high pitched yelp. Johanna lifted up her boot and kicked him in the gut making him stagger backwards, and her eyes seemed like they housed a fire as her intense gaze went for the other goon.

Knowing that the civilian was the most important person to keep safe, she decided to do her best rugby impression and drive her shoulder into the knife wielder’s side as she took herself off her feet and brought along the other goon.

”You two better step messing around right now, because you’re not going to win!”

Her voice laboured with deep huffs of air, without the presence of her exosuit the few hundred pounds of steel weighed on her body much more intensely. She preferred to deter them quickly rather than get into a protracted fight.

Also like an idiot, she’d completely forgotten to call for police or hero backup when she had ran in without thinking…

A provisional license? Oh, so she's one of those. No matter. In a situation like this, any help offered is help she's willing to take. The further the knife is from her and her crate of felines, the better things will be.[break][break]

Though, her faith does waver a little when she notices just how easily this stranger seems to tire. Just how heavy is that armour of hers? And isn't it meant to be optimised like most other hero outfits that UA gifts its students?[break][break]

"Others will be here soon. Are you sure you wanna keep at it?"[break][break]

Now, the glare she exchanges with the criminals is one that she can't afford to break. She doesn't really know if this fledgling hero has called for backup, but she sure as hell hopes that they'll play along even if they haven't. The duo tethers on the edge of a crucial decision: Do they call her bluff and risk getting caught? Or do they fight to the bitter end?[break][break]

"Tch."[break][break]

They crumble quicker than her lie, quick to tuck their tails and pack the show.[break][break]

"Best be watching over your shoulder, doc."[break][break]

But not before they leave one last menacing note hanging over her head; To which she will simply scrunch her nose as her tail flicks.[break][break]

They could try, that's for sure.

”Ok, get off of me you oaf!”

The words of the woman seemed to had sent a chill down the criminals spines, maybe with the help of Johanna’s show of force they had managed to get them to figure out the error of their ways and run off.

”You’re lucky you got away before backup!”

Of course backup was never getting there because she realized she never called them in, but she felt a twinge of self-doubt about merely letting them get away like this. The way they spoke implied they were not done, and she was worried what could happen if she or another hero wasn’t there the next time.

But for now, she had to accept it. Even if she wanted to chase them, with her armour in this configuration she’d never catch up… If only she had her exo on right now…

”Oh, are you okay, miss?”

Like that, she went into hero mode again trying to fret over the civilian who had been caught in the crossfire. She was glad that they seemed unharmed, but worried if they might’ve been distressed by the entire ordeal.

And that wasn’t even speaking of the cute little fluffballs she was transporting.

Oaf is such a weak insult thrown their way, the final barks of filthy hounds that soon disappear into the back alleys. And she'll only hold them within her gaze for so long, before letting her gaze wander.[break][break]


"Could be better." Comes her brisk response, a brief glance around their surroundings allowing her to pinpoint a quiet corner. Plenty shaded, little to no foot traffic around with plenty of places to hide. She makes her way over and gently places the cage down, her fingers attempting to pull at the lock mechanisms but quickly pulling away at a sharp pain.[break][break]

Dark red drips from the winding scratch, a cacophony of yowls swallowing her hiss as she tries to shake it out.[break][break]

“Could be better” definitely immediately put Johanna’s mind back into hero mode as she tried to discern what might be wrong, other than of course the logical result of the woman being traumated from the experience.

”Woah, that’s not nice of you little one!” Johanna exclaimed as the cat repaid the white haired saviour with a claw to her hands.

Of course, the little furry villain quickly darts off into the distance to avoid atoning for their cat based criminalities, and it left Johanna grabbing her backpack. Like most of her things, the backpack was absolutely littered with cat-based pins and patches.

”With how much I deal with cats on a daily basis, I always make sure to bring some emergency equipment with me for when those little buggers get a little clawy.” she’d smile as she pulled out a bottle of water, iodine solution and bandaids from her bag.

Naturally so, the bandaids had little cats on them.

A cat-loving hero-in-training. What a combination to meet out in the streets, really. At the very least, she doesn't have to give long-winded lectures on why they shouldn't be punting a cat for such things, or attempting to wrestle them before they wring the little furballs with their grip.[break][break]

”Some breeders are honestly the worst, really.” she’d huff a little as she still impressed a quick bout of first aid upon her new cat-loving friend.

There were plenty of nice ones she had met, but some simply saw the cats as breeding stock to sell and use up like they were worth nothing, at it made her really mad to think about innocent cats being treated without the love and devotion all of them deserved.

If those breeders were such asses about it, there were plenty of good people that could treat their cats a thousand times better.

Hearing the lady question whether or not working with cats is part of her hero work, she looked up with a slight blush on her cheek. ”Oh, uh… Well no, I just really like cats… really.” she’d stammer as an answer.

”If I wasn’t able to be a hero, I’d probably have become a veterinarian or some such. And I figure, being a hero isn’t mutually exclusive with being a friend to all cats, right?” she’d remark with a warm smile as she put the finishing touches upon dealing with the scratches on the lady’s hand.

”Well, unless it was like an evil giant megacat that wants to destroy Tokyo! Like Godzilla, or Purrzilla if you will!” she’d muse, her head immediately lost in a fluffy cloud of kittens again.

"Well... since you're a friend to all cats, I don't supposed I could ask a favour of you?" Treatment progresses without a hitch, the scratches covered by bandaids that awkwardly hug the outlines of her scales. "It's about those two that you just saw and the whole operation they're involved in."
