Have you had the dream again? A black goat with seven eyes that watches from the outside... [break][break] Emi was feeling a bit down. With all of her roommates and friends busy she was left to explore Dream World alone. She had even reached out to see if her family could make the trip but they were also busy. She thought about skipping the event entirely, but what good would sitting at home alone do for her? Perhaps she would make some more friends or run into some others on the campus! [break][break] With the purchase of a ticket and a map in hand she felt a bit overwhelmed by the choices, there were so many things to do and things to see even if she hurried she doubted that she'd see them all! Her instinct was to head to the food court and her stomach loudly reinforced this as well. As her face turned scarlet she opted to take the less predictable path and instead decided the petting zoo would be fun. While she didn't get to express it, often, she was a big fan of animals, having had a few pets over the years that she was lucky enough to take with her whenever they traveled. [break][break] As she arrived, she was happy to see that it wasn't something just for kids as there were parents, teens, and even a few UAU faces she recognized- Was that Hawthorne? [break][break] Her sadness would immediately shift to happiness as she bounded up behind him and give him a slight friendly poke to get his attention "Hawthorne! I'm so glad to see someone I know here. Are you planning on going into the petting zoo? Mind if I tag along?" she was praying that he wasn't just passing by and that she could convince him to actually stick around and hang out with her. He gave off a 'too cool for school' vibe but she figured with their shared experiences that she might have worn him down just a teeny bit.[break][break] From the darkness of the barn several eyes stared out at all the people. Unmoving, unconcerned at the people and instead focusing on the newcomers. There was something about the guy...something this being didn't like. If the person in charge of the petting zoo wasn't distracted her might have been able to warn them: Beware the goat that watches from the outside. [break][break]

[Elijah]

Truth be told, Elijah didn't want to be here. Amusement parks where people screamed on fast rides and crowd around each other to watch a show just wasn't his scene. Even though the place was promised to be as safe as it could be, the freshman despised his attention getting shot by all the noise. Especially when he didn't believe a place where wanted criminals could walk around freely was considered safe.

But he was in Dream World anyway because his father wanted him to be. Something, something, you should have fun Eli! I'm not joining you so you could hang out with your friends! No matter how much Elijah argued he didn't have any, the elder man refused to believe him. So here he was, arms crossed on a fence, having a staring contest with one of the sheep in the petting zoo he ended up outside of.

The sheep walked away. It was a win for him as far as he was concerned.

Elijah tuned out his surroundings so much though that he only blinked when his name was mentioned, not even registering the poke. He turned to the source, brows raising in recognition. "Oh, Hall. Hey." It was a face he was more familiar with than most anyone else in the university at least.

The freshman hummed at the questions. He wasn't planning on going in but he was told to 'have fun'. Maybe this would count and he could go home once he's done. "Sure. I need a witness for when my dad doesn't believe I came here."

With that totally enthusiastic acceptance, Elijah leaned away from the fence and tucked his hands in his pockets before walking to the entrance, unaware of the looming threat they were about to expose themselves to. "Where are your friends? I can't be the only person you recognize here."

Emi was positively beaming, happy to see another friendly face. Before this, she was contemplating even going home since everyone she knew was busy, but it looked like Hawthorne was also alone! Little did she know that this was most likely done by choice. Either way, she was just happy to have some company![break][break] "You can just call me Emi I'm just happy to se-...wait a witness?" she was really confused by that. "Why wouldn't your dad believe you? If you don't mind me asking," she added the last part, not to be pushy, but in reality, she was really curious.[break][break] A baby pig would waddle its way up to Emi and she'd waste no time bending down to pet it. This was all super cool! Her troubles felt like they were washing away until Hawthorne brought up her lack of company. "Oh, uh..." She didn't want to spread around the fact that Freja had a crush on Sumi, so she made a quick excuse. "They decided not to come here, so I'm just alone. Well, at least I was!" she'd pick up the pig and gesture to Hawthorne to pet it as well. It was too cute how could he resist? [break][break]

Being as familiar with Emilia as he was, her friendliness came as no surprise to him. A good chunk of UAU were outgoing people really - par for the course when the departments relied on networking and building trust with the civilian populace. Elijah, however, was not one of those people. "Hall is fine."

The other freshman shrugged at her question. "He wants me to be here and knows I'd rather not be. Hence, witness needed to prove I'm following his wishes so he doesn't argue with me further on this." He spoke as if visiting the amusement park was a great inconvenience to him. Which it was.

But he'll at least try to make the most of it as that was another of his father's wishes. When Emilia carried the piglet in her arms, he'd lift a hand to pet it, only for the creature to shy away. Confused, he looked to his hand only for him to realize it was his right.

Right. He doubt the animal wanted to be tapped with what was essentially several metal pipes.

With a click of his tongue, Elijah switched arms to pet its head and it squealed happily, much more receptive of his human hand. He turned back to the girl with a quirked brow, eyeing her critically. "All of them?"

Somehow he doubted that too.

Emi pouted a bit at Hawthorne's insistence on calling her Hall. In her eyes, they were already good friends and had bonded over the events of The Rumbling and having spent some (mandatory) time together in the hospital. Still, she wasn't gonna dwell on it perhaps Hawthorne was just shy? [break][break] "I kind of get that in a way my dad wanted me to go into the military, it's a family thing." she'd rub the pigs head gently as it squealed happily. "But he always told me to follow my dreams which is...this, I guess?" she gestured to the people around her, some familiar from classes and others she'd never met before. Still unsure if she was entirely up to the task of being a hero, this was exactly what she was struggling with a bit. She had been more of a liability than anything else lately and she it was making her doubt her ability. Besides she would be taking the advancement exam soon and move up to a second year so now was the time to figure that out. [break][break] She would return to reality to address Hawthorne's skepticism. "Yeah, unfortunately, I haven't made too many friends outside of my roommates...well, and Jun." she'd set the pig back down and then pointed towards a sheep that was close by. "Oh! Sorry, and you!" Whether Hawthorne reciprocated or not, it didn't matter. They had animals to see! [break][break]

Elijah simply stared back at the pout, unaffected by her expression. She didn't like the distance he was keeping from her with the last name? Good. Even though he spent more time with her than average with the crisis, it was just that. Time spent. Even now it was nothing but coincidence bringing them together.

Which made him furrow his brow in confusion when Emilia spoke about dreams and her military father. Where did that come from? "I was talking about being in the amusement park." He looked around them before shaking his head. "This isn't my scene." Turning back to her, Elijah squinted. "What were you talking about?"

Eyeing the sheep she gestured at, his eyes went half-lidded. Ah. The one who lost the staring contest. He followed her towards it. "And it's fine. We're not friends." In hindsight he should've told her that sooner but better late than never. The topic never came up what with their minds being so focused between the rescue efforts and what could only be deemed as May 4.

This whole exchange just proved to Emi that even though she had spent a lot of time with Hawthorne, likely more than most given what he said, she didn't really know him. This kind of stuff was exactly what she struggled with - Damn anxiety. She didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable, but how else would they become better friends if she didn't learn more about him? [break][break] "Huh? Oh, I uh," her face turned scarlet as she turned away. "-I meant more like...you know what, forget about it!" She took the opportunity to pet another animal that came by, thankfully facing away from Elijah when he bluntly stated they weren't friends. After all, who wanted to see a girl cry? She had been feeling especially lonely lately, and this was just the nail in the coffin. [break][break] "Y-Yeah," her voice was shaking a bit as she wiped her eyes with her sleeves. "Better to be 'stuck' with someone instead of being alone if you ask me." [break][break] The goat would make its move, charging forward with a bleat and leaping at Elijah to grab his arm in one of its many mouths and then charging off, jumping past the enclosure much to the shock and fear of those watching. "What in the hell..Hawthorne, I'm on my way!" she would jump the fence herself, doing her best to try and catch up to the goat with seven heads. [break][break]

Emilia's reaction to him clarifying his point only proved to confuse him further. She was fine sharing something about herself unprompted, but once the prompt actually came she no longer wanted to? She was resolute in facing away from him as well. So he remained where he was, making no move to check on why she was acting in such a way.

Because he knew. Her shaky voice held similarities with people grieving in front of graves.

Perhaps it was recompense for making her cry, then, that one of the critters in the zoo charged at his blind side.

Metal crunching rung in his ears, and Elijah was off to the races.

His body carved a path in the dirt as he was pulled along, his prosthetic held tightly in the jaws of one of the goat's head. He had to blink to confirm what he was seeing- and yeah, it definitely had multiple heads. Because of course he'd encounter such a thing not once but twice.

But that didn't matter right now. He needed to stop it in its tracks so Emilia could catch up.

Elijah blearily looked around for something - anything - to grab hold of, though so far it's only been food stalls and park goers running out of the way. Annoying. He'd have to depend on the goat to take him somewhere beneficial- like to a lamp post.

Okay. He could work with that.

With a deep breath he lifted his foot to kick on the ground, causing his form to swing towards the lamp post. He grabbed it with his free arm once it was within reach- only for him to grunt in pain at the resulting pull when the goat tried to continue running. And also the following tugs when the creature wasn't happy that they stopped moving.

Elijah moved to hug the pole with his left arm while his prosthetic was the rope in a tug of war. What now?

More than anything Emi cursed the fact that she was so slow. This goat, could it even be really called a goat? The 'goats' were a lot faster than your average person who in turn was a lot faster than Emi ever could be. "Hawthorne, hang in there!" she was huffing as she ran as fast she could. "I'll get you out of there!" Too bad the nonaggression pact of Dream World didn't apply to these monsters. [break][break] By chance Hawthorne had managed to delay his departure by grabbing onto a pole which thankfully gave Emi a chance to catch up to them. For a moment, she panicked, unsure if it was better to try and help him directly or deal with the goat. She didn't want to hurt either of them, and with their connection being a prosthetic, she also didn't want to be responsible for whatever that cost. It was probably a lot, and she didn't have a lot to offer! So she took the easier path and gripped onto his other arm doing her best not to squeeze too hard and planted her feet "Don't worry I won't lose this tug of war...probably." her attempts to be supportive were diminished by her own insecurity. Hopefully Elijah was up for it! [break][break]

There was an unconscious roll of his eyes at Emilia's call. Hang in there, she said. Not like Elijah had much of a choice- the animal wasn't going to let go anytime soon. He at least controlled himself enough not to comment further. She was going to help him despite the state he put her in, whether due to some innate altruism or she really wanted to see him as a friend. Whatever the case may be, it wasn't like he would deny her aid in getting him out of this situation.

Though her lack of confidence in herself when she gripped him would result in his confusion. "Probably? You pushed a thirty foot golem off yourself." Surely they didn't remember that crisis differently? While he hadn't seen everything that went on, he heard the stories from several witnesses to the event.

Nevertheless, Elijah shook his head, having no time to console her out of her self-deprecation. "Do what you must, just get this thing off me." In his struggle he kicked one of the goat's heads, which only angered the creature further. He felt teeth graze his leg as he barely dodged the resulting bite of a different head.

He should be glad his prosthetic was as durable as it was, but all he could think about was how he wouldn't be here if it just tore his arm off his shoulder.
