What goes around comes around. You get what you give. You reap what you sow. Their entire life, TakahΔ«roβs father has defined their purpose and their worth by their service to the temple. By serving the temple, they serve their ancestors; their guardian spirits. By serving their ancestors, they serve the people of the village β a village that TakahΔ«ro has never been allowed to see. By serving the village, their community, they serve the gods, and in serving the gods, they earn their worth. They earn their place in this world. Shinjiro... has been raised differently. Taciturn, focused, dutiful. Those close to him (of which there are few) would happily tell you he has a bad habit of being a bit of a workaholic, and a one track mind; he gets βin the zoneβ and doesnβt like to be bothered about things that arenβt related to the staff, the club, or his family. In the heart of Tokyo, where Shinjiro grew up, sentiments like the ones their father impress upon them are often considered religious ideology at best and archaic fanaticism at worst. But what can they do, really? With TakahΔ«ro isolated in the mountains, forbidden to see the light of day beyond the temple walls, and Shinjiro thousands of miles away with responsibilities of his own to fulfill β they are trapped in place. Theyβre not heroes. Theyβre not extraordinary. This is just the way things are. All they can do, really, is weather each passing day as it comes and ignore any restless, desperate, claustrophobic rage that may or may not be clawing at the bars beneath the surface.Freedom, dreams, rebellionβ¦ those things are for kids. For better or worse β (probably for worse) β those days are best left behind. [/PTab={tabwidth:400;tab-selected-color:#fff}] [PTab=πβππΎπβ] Twenty-seven years ago, towards the tail end of May, two children were born in a single home, at the stroke of midnight, beneath a blood-stained perigee flower moon. One had green eyes. The other had gold. They blinked at the same time, breathed at the same time, slept at the same time, and they never, ever cried. Three months later, one vanished with its mother in the middle of the night. They never saw each other again. They see each other every morning in the mirror. In his nightmares, he lives in a forest.(In his dreams, he lives in a city.) There is blood under his nails, on his face, in his teeth.(There is sun in his hair and warmth on his skin.) The thing he calls father is a monster in monkβs clothing, and he dares not look it in the eye. He knows better than that by now.(The woman he calls mother is never home, but thatβs alright. She loves him, he knows that, and she works hard.) He carries the weight of his bloodline's sins like a yoke upon his shoulders - a legacy of horror, and hatred, and ruin.(He carries a handful of jingling silver bells in his pocket - keys to a cherished, hidden haven almost entirely his own.) Wooden floorboards as ancient as the hallowed ground below creak with every step he takes.(He wishes, sometimes, that heβd never have to leave.) He wishes he couldnβt hear how the shadows between them scream.[/PTab={tabwidth:400;tab-selected-color:#fff}] [/PTabbedContent={tabs:top; tabwidth:15; tabvalign:top;width:450px;}] [PTabbedContent][PTab=βππβπ] MUTATION | (C+) tl;dr: There are two wolves inside of you. Both of them are gay. βTaka / Jiβ is one single consciousness shared by two bodies, and involuntarily enters a destructive frenzy upon encountering blood. βπΈβππ πΈππΉππ½ππππππ The long and short of it is this; this is not a quirk. It is a curse. A disease. First and most damning of the trinity passed down through the βββ Inue family is the curse in their veins. A carnal, feral bloodlust, this βcurseβ sharpens their senses [replaces awareness] and strips them of all inhibition upon exposure to the scent or sight of blood. The hunger is not to drink or feast β only to rip and tear and destroy, wholly and utterly. In this generation, however, a curious side-effect has sprung up: the intriguing case of one consciousness, split simultaneously between two separate physical incarnations. One mind, two bodies. These two bodies are best imagined as two hands, belonging to the same person, both of which share and experience all thoughts, emotions, and physical stimulus. While itβs possible to differentiate between their personal lives, overwhelming stimuli runs the risk of overriding any carefully constructed sense of individuality. In all other ways, barring their bloodlust, the bodies are completely normal, average humans. While the two bodies can move freely within Japan and Okinawa, if one body were to leave the range of the country, both would lose consciousness until the bodies were brought back within range of each other. And if there happens to be too much going on around both bodies, they will become overstimulated and lose focus to a debilitating degree [all stats and skills function as if at D-]. Imagine, for example, a situation such as when one thinks too hard about their own breathing β suddenly unable to focus on anything else, forgetting momentarily how to breathe on autopilot and needing to focus for fear of not breathing enough or forgetting entirely β and apply that to every aspect of motor control and function. ( TAKAHΔͺRO ) BOTH [ SHINJIRO ] Father is a disciplined man who sleeps very little and has many rules. His standards are as exacting for TakahΔ«ro as they are for himself.
Takahiro is to clean the temple every morning before visitors arrive, and he is to stay hidden once they do, to spare them the sight of his face. TakahΔ«ro is not to attempt to communicate with nor show himself to anyone outside of the temple. TakahΔ«ro is to clean the temple from top to bottom after visitors leave for the day, as they do not know where they have been or what they have touched. TakahΔ«ro is to have breakfast ready each morning when Father rises, and dinner ready each evening when Father returns. TakahΔ«ro is not to eat until Father has finished and taken his leave. TakahΔ«ro is to awaken when Father returns from his hunt each night, to clean and butcher his kills so that Father can clean himself and rest. TakahΔ«ro is not to disturb Father while he sleeps.
And above all else: TakahΔ«ro is never, ever to venture beyond the temple gates.
Meanwhile, Father carries out his business the same each day. At noon, he rises to go attend matters in the village. He is home before dusk, to close the temple to the public. He leaves at sundown, to hunt in the wilds for the nightβs share of meat that will feed them β and some of the villagers β for the week. He returns in the darkness before the pre-dawn morning to rest. He sleeps from then until midday, then rises to do it all over again. He very, very much dislikes any disturbance of this routine.
The scars on either side of TakahΔ«ro's face and the dull stump of a tongue in the back of his mouth are stark and permanent reminders of that fact.
TAGGED.
