[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun set down the pan of burgers on the table, trying her best not to acknowledge the stares she was getting. It had been two weeks since the Sports Festival, and her performance was...less than stellar. Between that and the recognition she was getting she didn't know what was worse. It didn't help that she was helping with a big event in Osaka, and the event was hosted by the prefecture's police department. A police department that knew her well enough, not because of her actions, but because- "Jun!" She looked up, over at her father who was manning the grill. There were at least a dozen or so patties sizzling all at the same time, and Kazuto Kanjo was working like a madman flipping as many as possible. "We're running low on buns, can you run in to the kitchen to pick up a few packs?""Uh, yeah! On it!" This was one of the rare occasions the prefecture was able to host a first-responders get together. This was also the first time she had been to one of these as a volunteer, and while she expected to do work she wasn't expecting all the running around she had to do. Probably Dad's way of keeping me busy, she thinks, sighing as she vanished inside the building. She loved her parents, but she was definitely a "daddy's girl". That wasn't to say she didn't love her mother, but her father was so much easier to connect with. He had that kind of personality, and was probably why he excelled as a dispatcher. That ability to empathize and communicate with others...if only she had that...

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... After a minute or so of searching, Jun brought out the tray of buns and set it on the table, again trying to avoid making any prolonged eye contact. That being said, looking over at the grill she noticed a tray...half tray...not even a quarter tray ready. Maybe she could just go grab it, move it over... "Woah, hold it! I'm not done loading that yet!" Kazuto smiles at Jun, his cheery demeanor rubbing off on her a little. She gives a more nervous smile, fidgeting in place. "Sorry, I'm just..." "You are way too tense, Jun-bug," he says, setting his spatula down as he turns and puts his hands on her shoulders. "You're here to help out and have a good time. You can relax, you know!" "I know, I know, it's just..." she trails off, looking down. "People keep staring..." "Everyone that steps into the limelight experiences that." He turns, getting back to the business of preparing patties. "You shouldn't put so much stock into what others think, Jun-bug. Remember, you're learning how to be a servant of the state! What matters is what you do by the people, and what you do by yourself. Take what happened and learn from it! I have no doubt that in time you will be an upstanding-" Something crashed nearby. If Jun wasn't on edge before she was definitely that way now. At first she thought it was someone drunk accidentally sending their car into another car, but the scraping sound told a different story: metal on concrete. Shortly after there were screams, and people running from the scene. "That's not good," Kazuto says, taking his apron off and moving around. "Jun, I hate to ask this, but whatever's happening...get with any heroes on the scene, form a picket around the danger!" He didn't have to tell her twice. Like an arrow from a bow, she was off.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... It was like she was swimming through a dream. She had lived through something like this, once before. There were not a lot of thugs, but the power the exuded was enough to injury many people. It was...some kind of technology. Something that most people weren't familiar with. Organizing and helping with the evacuation wasn't difficult; because this was a first-responder's outing, almost everyone involved sprung into action. The station became the rock, bringing everyone in and organizing a retreat through the other side of the building. Inside a medical station was set up, anyone too injured or disoriented being tended to by EMS professionals while police, new and old, on and off duty, started to set up a perimeter to deter the force. Whoever they were, they were organized. Several vehicles were overturned in the initial attack, dozens of people injured or worse, and in the chaos they picked off several important lynchpins. Namely, some of the heroes that were associated with the department. They were part of a fast-response unit, backing up the bigger name heroes or police units within the area. It wasn't a fancy use of resources, but everyone agreed it was a good strategy. And of the eight heroes employed by the department, three were dead. Jun kept up a line of shields, keeping the side that Geyser, one of the dead heroes, from collapsing. She looked out towards the cover that the villains were using, the body in plain view as she looked at it. It's hard to tell, but those look more like cuts. These guys, they're using some kinda blaster...I can't tell what the heat is like, but there should also be some burn damage. This was evidenced by some of the blasts hitting her shields. They thankfully could take the punishment, but like all things she couldn't handle attrition. Each hit dissolved a little more of her shields. She wanted to confirm that the hero was gone, but that'd involve breaking the line. And she couldn't- It was subtle, but just subtle enough for her to hear it: the whooshing of fabric just outside her peripheral. It wasn't a civilian's, either, which prompted her to immediately shift one of her shields to her left side. In a flash she was met face to face with one of the assailants, a young woman in a mask. From there the fight was on.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... The silver lining was that most, if not all, of the civilians were out of harms way. The downside was now the villains' hired help was slowly moving on her position, and it was taking almost everything to keep up her defense. The woman before her was, at least as much as Jun could tell, not that much older than her, if at all. Athletic build, mask over her face in the form of a fox, and a blade that truly scared Jun. It was just a regular katana-shaped blade, but there was something...off. The woman's attacks were not very strong, and they weren't that fast, but they were capable of cutting through Jun's shields with an ease that was alarming. At the rate she was going she was going to run out of material sooner over later; something had to give. Up until this point, she had been defending a static area, but the time had come for her to do a little bit more. Deflecting a blow, she sent a shield flying at one of the extras, knocking them over and forcing the others to fly into cover. That has to be drilled into them, she thinks, taking off in a direction before the mysterious swordswoman could recover. The time was at hand for Jun to make a move, and move she would. Sliding into a more advantageous position, she switched the feeling from compassion to hope, generating two big spotlights and setting them on the remaining three offenders. Jun's main opponent was struggling to catch up, but that was okay. It gave her the opportunity to do a little bit of housecleaning. With her opponents blinded Jun moved in, striking swiftly and with enough force to neutralize them. Now that she was close, though... "You're not like the other heroes," the woman says as Jun turns to face her head on. "I don't recognize your quirk. Who are you?"

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... It was a standoff. Jun had four gems remaining, and nothing that could counter that sword. The woman maintained a defensive posture, clearly cautious of what Jun was capable of. From what Jun could gather, the offensive of the villains was winding down. There was no telling what the damage was, but retaliation was sure to be swift. Jun had her jaw set, eyes burning holes through that woman's mask. "I don't visit Osaka often," Jun starts, considering her options, "but I know that there aren't that many organized gangs. You people don't account for any of them." Jun couldn't see it, but the woman was frowning. Maybe it was part of the aura she was giving off, maybe it was something subtle in the way the mask sat on her face. "Fine, don't answer my question." Tension was rising in her arms, her legs, and Jun started to think where she might strike. From her position the entire left side was most likely to be hit...but then again she might be preparing for that and might strike from the right... "We are the Old Guard." A voice from her left, right in her blind spot, caught her off guard. She flinched, wanted to turn to look but knowing the moment she did she'd be wide open. Not only that...it couldn't be. "The same that struck Stryker's Island?" A small laugh came from the mysterious voice, followed by, "Stand down, Muramasa. It would be more productive to crush her mentally than spiritually." The woman, Muramasa, slowly relaxed, lowering her weapon. Jun couldn't help but wonder what he meant by that, and though the panic was rising she had to face whoever this was. What she saw was a man in an oni mask, physically imposing and decently armored. What she wasn't expecting was seeing her father in the man's grasp, fingers tightened around his throat as Kazuto's arm hung limply at his side.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Her father was the only thing Jun could focus on. It was hard to see, but he was breathing; the gorilla of a man holding him wasn't making it easy. All at once Jun tried to think of how she could potentially get to him; surprise hammer at the man's face, maybe a cannon, or she could wrap a chain around his throat to force him to release his grip. It came back to the same two problems: that man could snap Dad's neck at any time, and the woman in front of her could easily go on the offensive. "I recognize you. From the festival." He slowly raised Kazuto, despite his protests and flails. "Odd, how you threw your advantage away-" "Let him go." Jun turned to face him, knowing she was putting herself in a no-win scenario. "You've caused enough grief today already, and whatever point you wanted to make has been taken. There are enough dead people here today." She was shaking. Panic was welling up in her; this was almost exactly like Stryker's Island. She remembered all the people that died, injured, because of her inaction. She acted today, but people still died. Even worse, her father's life was on the line. She would give anything to make this end, even if she had to- A calmness washed over her, almost like a relief. Tears welled up in her eyes, knowing that this was her father's doing. As a dispatcher his quirk was instrumental, the ability to project emotions onto people. It was soothing, but at the same time it also made the gravity of the situation even worse. Ever since she was little he could always calm her down, give her some sense of rest and comfort, and she didn't know if this was going to be the last time she would experience that. The man tilted his head, letting out a hum. "Unfortunately, this man stole something from us. A long time ago. Something precious. We cannot let his crime slide." His grip tightened, a gurgling coming from Kazuto. Jun wanted to run through the possibilities, to understand what he was talking about, but she couldn't. Her father was in pain, and all she could do was stand there and watch, do nothing, be useless. "Father, our goals are incomplete. We shouldn't-" "What have I told you, Muramasa?" The woman winced, taking a step back. "Forgive me..." It was green. Jun recognized where she slipped; it was a familial operation. That was...odd. Not as odd as the sudden airship that came down towards the parking lot. The thugs seemed to be making a retreat.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Every fiber of Jun's body tensed. She had an idea where all this was going. "You're taking him hostage." "For now. In the future he will be our honored guest." The masked man regarded Jun, his gaze only causing her blood to boil. "Do not follow us. He possesses information we seek, but he is still expendable to us." Jun looked at Kazuto, and despite his struggling he managed a smile. It was small, but she felt assurance wash over her. It will be okay. No. No it won't. Jun grit her teeth, glancing at Muramasa. The reprimand had hit her hard, she wasn't paying attention. Besides, he's bluffing. He makes it seem like what you have can be found elsewhere, but what he said made it sound personal. He won't kill you, you're too valuable. In a flash of anger she summoned a hammer flying straight towards Muramasa, catching her by surprise. The construct hit her square in the chest, sending her flying. "Follow you? You think I'm going to let you get away?" Her fury burned hot, and she assumed a stance. "After all the lives you've ruined today? Five years ago? Who knows however many? Do you honestly think I will let you leave and evade justice?"Oni mask brought Kazuto up, holding him out in front to act as a shield. "Perhaps you've forgotten I hold the leverage here, little girl-" "And maybe no one's told you how much of a poozer you really are!" Jun reached behind her to grab the collar of her shirt, tearing it part way as she engaged the crystals embedded along her shoulders. Her rings only had a small amount of quartz left, but the citrine was untouched. With this untapped reserve she began construction of the very same thing she built years ago: a full size replica of a Yamato turret. It would take time, a lot longer than all her other constructs, but her intent was clear. "I've told you lot before, but here it is again for good measure: BEWARE MY POWER!" Even through the mask Jun saw the surprise build on the man's face. With a hard throw he sent Kazuto in Jun's direction, running to where Muramasa was recovering from the hit. "All units! Scatter! Scatter!" Even with the warning, it was too late. With an earth-shattering salvo Jun sent her shells flying, smashing into the airship. Though damaged, it was still airborne, but the pilot clearly didn't want to hang around. With massive holes all in it, it began to gain altitude and fly off, limping away. Though it was a hollow victory, she at the very least cut off the villains' escape. The remaining thugs that didn't make it on the ship ran, probably a half dozen or so. She didn't get the chance to see the masked villains, but she was sure they got away, too. They didn't matter to Jun so much anymore as she ended up at Kazuto's said, checking him over. "Dad! Please tell me you're alright!" With a cough and a nod, he fell limp in her arms; he was alive, but in critical condition. Bruising was around his throat, his arm was at an unnatural angle, and breathing was a clear trouble for him. With the raid over the first responders got to work, but to Jun this was only the beginning.
