She had never been to a festival before. Apparently it was a big event with lots of things happening. Food, games, sports and even fights! What she found the most interesting was how none of the fights were to the death. Was that not the whole point of a competition like that? She really wanted to take part in the festivities. Unfortunately for her she had a job to do first. For some reason, UAU putting on this whole event had stirred up quite a lot of activity in the local gangs, so much so that she had been hired to dispatch of one of them.

''I could be drinking tea and having chocolate right now.'' She sulked from the rooftop she was laying on. ''I know, but can you blame me? I've been up here for an hour already!'' She talked back to an unknown person through the comm in her ear. ''Yeah, yeah, I won't leave a trace, just give me the signal, you're too passive.'' She might be a living weapon, but a weapon was only as strong as the person pulling the trigger. She had no use for pacifists, but at least this slow bastard was going to pay her handsomely for her murderous services. Peeking over the edge she saw that the gang was beginning to mobilize and harass a couple of civilians walking by. ''Now?! I'm going now?'' She eagerly jumped to her feet, turning herself into a foam sword as she tumbled over the edge and onto the street below. Once she was safely down she reshaped herself, only she decided to hide her face by turning it into a defunct chainsaw, while turning her left arm into a fire axe.

Running up from behind the gang members, she swung her axe into the first one of them, securing a takedown before anyone could notice her.

''What's going on? Maeda!'' Exclaimed one of the thugs as he turned around to face her.

''Ta-daaa.'' She said plainly and with little enthusiasm. ''You're about to become a victim of Chain Brain.''

Jouma decided to take a day to wander the streets. He wasn't particularly worried about running into trouble. I mean, look at him! Who would dare challenge him? He was good looking and intimidating, and anyone who thought that was all a facade would get punched in the face!

He rounded a corner, and upon seeing a group of hooligans harassing a few people he weighed his options. On one hand, he shouldn't get involved. It was none of his business. On the other, though...he was a man. Was it not a man's duty to defend the weak and to make the strong pick on someone their own size? Yeah, that logic along was enough to puff his chest out and begin to approach the group. "Excuse me! You-" he stopped, seeing the absolutely mutated individual pop down from the rooftops and murderize someone. Was this a hero? If so, they were in bad practice! And this is coming from the guy who used blunt and bladed weaponry against his foes! Unlike this person, though, he didn't use his weapons to kill.

"HEY!" He pointed at Chain Brain, a scowl crossing his face. "First of all, heroes are supposed to preserve life, not take it! Look how un-manly you're acting right now! Second of all, I saw this group first, and therefore they will face the wrath of the Devil!" And with that he struck a pose, flexing his muscles that could be plainly seen through his shirt, as tight as it was.

Although she was ready to rip and tear she stopped dead in her tracks when Jouma called her out. ''...Unmanly?'' A concept she wasn't familiar with. Was taking life unmanly? If so, then it was only natural that she was considering she was a woman! Oh right, her head was a chainsaw, maybe it wasn't that obvious with her disguise on. ''I'm not a hero, I'm Chain Brain the... the... The vigilante that isn't afraid to... To do the thing!'' Okay so her fake motto needed some work, but it was good for now. ''What you said makes no sense, Devil-kun!'' She pointed the end of her axe arm at him. ''Fights are to the death, that is a fundamental rule of nature! Only the strong get to decide who lives and who dies.'' She had been raised to kill and believed herself to be nothing more than a human weapon, even if she did like to be treated as a human that was her nature.

''If you don't kill your target, how do you know that you've won?'' She posed the question like she genuinely didn't know. This muscly guy had made her think about another one of life's many mysteries! Like why was it cold when it rained and how was chocolate made? She didn't know. There was truly no way to find out. Just another one of life's many mysteries. ''Shut up!'' One of the thugs smacked her upside the head with a pipe. ''Ow.'' It wasn't enough to hurt her thanks to her quirk's durability, but it did make her fall over and panic, activating her quirk again to morph her entire body into a katana, spinning along the ground to swiftly cut into the ankle of the guy that had just hit her, making him cry out in pain as he collapsed. There had been no casualties yet, all thanks to the Devil. ''If you get in my way I'll have to kill you too, Devil-kun.'' She said, standing upright as nothing but a katana. ''Are you friends with these people?'' She looked as one of the gang members drew a knife and tried to sneak up on Jouma to hopefully stab him while he was distracted. She could have done something to stop it, but she didn't.

Jouma let out a 'ha!' like it was trivial. "Determining a winner doesn't always mean life or death! The winner can always be shown through greater acts of strength, or heroism! Or who has the most style, or the biggest muscles!" To accent this he strikes a pose while also flexing. "A vigilante like you would know better if- HEY!" he points at the man with the pipe, giving him a disapproving scowl. "I didn't say we started yet! You will be penalized for your conduct once we're all through! Where was I?" He tilts his head to the side, though Chain Brain's act made him turn and put an arm up, almost in defense. "Chains for brains! That is not how you conduct-" He caught something out of the corner of his eye, someone sneaking up on him! He turned, and as the villain stabbed at him Jouma clapped his hands together, trapping the blade between his hands.

"-a proper melee! And you, good sir, will also be penalized for not conducting yourself with proper honor! Real men face their opponents head on!" The blade would be dissolved and fed into Jouma's quirk, red energy starting to flow around him. Opponent disarmed, he brought a fist back, taking a breath. "Like this!" His fist connected with the man's stomach, driving all the wind out of him as he collapsed into the fetal position. Jouma turned, taking another step. "Now then, do not make me play the referee! Conduct yourselves properly, or I will end this street brawl!"

''Wrong! Not everyone with the biggest muscles always win!'' She decided to argue semantics with him, refusing to let him win this stupid argument that they were having. She was a trained assassin so she knew all about what it took to kill someone, and win a fight. What was all this talk of honor and heroism? She knew that heroes were supposed to be good guys and stuff, but she always ran before she got to face any of them. Besides, she was a villain who usually assassinated criminals, so heroes or even hero students were never on her hit list, and only the worst of vigilantes ended up there. ''Y-You're not even making sense!'' She turned back into a human with a chainsaw head and pointed a finger at Jouma. ''You're giving up your advantage! If your enemy's guard is down you go for the kill!'' Anything else was willfully being an idiot, she wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but at least she knew that much. ''Did they never teach you assassination in school?'' One of the thugs tried to sneak up on her, but when she turned her arm into an axe again he backed off and turned tail and ran.

Turning to face Jouma she raised her axe arm, but she didn't step towards him. It was meant as a warning more than anything. ''Now, if you're not one of these bad guys, could you back off? I have math class tomorrow and I won't be able to focus at all if I have to think about how I killed you here.'' She slowly lowered her arm. ''Do you really want that on your conscience? You're making a girl feel bad!''

The gang had started to circle around the two as they had this super serious and rational discussion. Jouma finally gave her a frown, turning towards her as he crossed his arms. "Assassination school? There is no such thing...unless the Americans have one, which you don't sound like...unless you're secretly a government agent who underwent their assassin school and was sent to get me before I could reach my full potential!"

With no other warning he punched the ground, and by itself it did nothing. However, he was also channeling his quirk in the process. All around the gathering circle the ground fractured and bowed into the center, more of that strange energy coalescing around Jouma. Heaving up a concrete slab (which was now free thanks to his actions) he spun around and chucked it at one of the goons behind him, effectively knocking him out of the fight. "Oh no! I am having to intervene in this street fight and I've let down my guard! Whatever shall I do? I cannot figure out how to subtract this 'X' to solve this math problem!" The faux mocking was perhaps in poor taste, but he had to make do with what he had.

Huh? Secret spy? Wait, did he know she was lowkey a villain to make ends meet? Uh oh! ''H-Hey forget about that! There's no assassination school! Americans don't exist and I'm definitely not secret! I'm Chain Brain I've got chains for brains uh- RAAH!'' She posed with her arms above her head, as if she was still trying to sell the fake chainsaw head persona. She didn't even care about killing this gang anymore, she was just trying to protect her civilian life and identity at this point. She couldn't afford to lose it after spending so many years as nothing but a weapon. She had finally become somewhat human, or was starting to understand what it was like so she didn't want to give it up again.

''You're strong, but I'm not scared!'' She declared firmly as he punched the ground and just picked it up like he had found a coin off the ground. Any moment now he was going to charge at her, and she would bring down her axe arm. She slowly lowered her arm when he talked about being unable to solve 'x'. ''Wait, really?'' She cocked her head and turned her arm back to normal, leaving her without a weapon as she put her arms around her back and approached him, trying to look around him to see the math problem for herself. ''You got a math problem you need to solve? Show me, I just started learning this stuff, I'm reliable!'' She insisted, eager to help him and prove that she wasn't just some killer. She was a killer who knew how to do basic math.

Bingo! Not only did he have her pegged right, she was even falling for his trap! Wait, was this a trap? It was one now! The gang, seeing him break the earth and throw it at them, was not incensed to stay around, a few of them scattering (and one helping his now fallen friend up). As Chain Brain got closer he formed a gauntlet around his arm, reaching towards her in an effort to get her in a headlock. "Ah ha! <Yippee kai hey, mother trucker!>" he shouts, broken English echoing through the street as he tried to grapple Chain Brain to the ground.

All things considered, he had to be careful. He lacked intelligence, not wisdom, and if she was capable of turning herself into weapons then he had to play his cards right. Mostly through immobilizing her without causing due harm to himself. "I am going to first tie you up, then report you to the Embassy! Soon enough you'll be doing math in a cell with those Marines!"

None the wiser, Arsenal soon found herself trapped in a headlock. ''W-What?!'' She immediately started struggling against Jouma's gauntlet to no avail. Had he used trickery to get her to let her guard down? This was why she never talked to her targets and just killed them or ran away if things got too troublesome! ''There's no math here, you tricked me!'' In terms of strength she couldn't put up much of a fight and was wrestled to the ground pretty easily. If only she wasn't trying to protect her civilian identity...

''Is this how a hero fights? You lied to me! That's so underhanded!'' While she was complaining about the turn of events she was going through her catalogue in her head. How could she apply her power to get out of this situation? Was it better to wait for a more opportune moment? Call in backup? All she knew was she couldn't drop the chainsaw head and reveal her civilian identity. Not if she wanted to be able to keep living a somewhat normal life. ''I can't do math in a cell! I'm not going back to being locked up!'' Maybe it was best to not use her quirk for now... She was kind of trapped in this ground gauntlet he had made after all. ''Do you know how boring that is? There's no way I can help people from inside of a cell, and there's no movies or video games. I have stuff I need to do, I have my whole life ahead of me I can't go to jail!''

She was spirited, but he had both a strength and leverage advantage on her. Not that he knew what leverage was. Must be a math thing. "You could totally do math in a cell! What do you think all those little tallies are on the wall?" It was an excellent point. But not too relevant.

But of course she had to stoke something else inside of him, and as they struggled he started to think. "Do you truly believe you are helping others through your actions? They are vile and violent and unheroic! You assassins and your bloody ways," he says, sighing. "I am willing to enter into a deal with you, but only because I think you have potential. If I let you go, do you promise to renounce your murderous ways and become a true hero of people?" This was only part of the reason why he wanted to end the fight. The other: he wasn't comfortable having to put a woman behind bars.

''I don't mean tallies! I mean like the advanced stuff!'' She fired back, yup, the advanced stuff, that was about as specific as she could be. See, this was exactly why she was going to school! The world was so big and there was tons of stuff to learn, how could she ever learn or experience it from inside a prison cell? Maybe coming out here without Olivia as backup was a bad idea...

''Of course I am, are you stupid? Tell me how many people a dead villain kills, go on, I'll wait!'' How dare he call her moral compass into question! She took her killing very seriously, hence why she didn't just waste randos. She only went after real bad people, and ran from heroes since she didn't want to interfere with what they are doing. ''A deal?'' She paused as she thought about what he requested of her. Having to think things through finally made her calm down and stop shouting. ''Hey, Devil-kun, have you ever killed anyone before? I won't tell on you.'' She gave him a moment to answer. ''I don't know anything about being a hero of the people. People like me don't really want a whole lot of attention you see. Can't I leave that sorta stuff to you? I don't just kill anyone by the way, last guy I killed was a real scumbag, ever heard of a group called The Spiders? We took care of 'em! I heard they attacked your classmates in the past.''

"Irrelevant!" He twisted her arm, holding her down. "You can be a hero of the people without killing and without being well known! Like what I'm fixing to do here!" Bracing himself, he lifted Arsenal up and flipped her behind him, effectively suplexing her into the pavement. It was so impressive he even flexed at the end. "Be warned! Change from your evil ways, else you will be forced to face me yet again! I show mercy now, but the next time I will be fresh out!"

He turned, heading back up the street. "There is more to life than killing and math, Chain Brain! I expect you to learn that lesson, if you learn nothing else!"

''Ow, ow, ow!'' She complained as he twisted her arm. ''As if! You're being unrealistic, Devil-kun!'' She felt herself get lifted up, but transformed into a foam hammer before she could hit the ground, making her landing painless. ''Do you think I'm scared of you?'' She transformed back to her normal self but kept the chainsaw head. ''I already told you I don't just go around killing anyone I feel like, did you forget that already? You're breaking my heart here.'' Whether she could kill Jouma was another conversation entirely, but it was safe to say she hadn't really been trying to for this encounter. While she wasn't going to change her ways from one run-in either, their conversation had gotten her thinking. Was it really possible to fight without the intent to kill? She had been taught to always look for weak spots, always aim for the vitals and end the fight as quickly as possible.

Maybe she didn't have to give up killing, but if she learned to fight in a way that was non-lethal she could more easily deal with these problematic types that got in her way, but weren't explicitly evil. ''Don't insult my career choice.'' She pouted although she was incapable of showing it. ''I like math, and killing is all I'm good for.'' She was more than happy that they were going their separate ways. Hopefully she didn't meet him again, or if she did, hopefully she did it with allies who would feel less messed up about killing innocent people.
