personality

Patience is a virtue that Iora has in abundance. The world can be an unforgiving place so she tries to make up for it by being gentle herself, responding to the lashes aimed her way with nothing but kindness. She's used to the treatment. She's stronger for it. She can take on what others could not. Her kindness does not make her a doormat however.
Unfair treatment is still unfair treatment, and she makes her opinions of it clear with soft but firm admonishment. The advice Iora gives can be unwarranted as a result of her inserting herself into others' business. With a moral compass as steadfast as hers, it's easy for her to get carried away with the lessons she imparts.
Overall Iora wishes for everyone to see each other as equals, but knows they have a long way to go.

Iora is a girl with a small frame, with several mutations on full display beyond her pink skin and yellow eyes that lack pupils. Extending off the top of her head are a pair of hibiscus flowers, naturally grown and replaced should they be removed. Three circular crystals are embedded on her person, one on her forehead and one for each forearm. The most unnatural part about her are her legs, which have been replaced with a set of roots. Her movement is akin to a snake.
Not many clothes fit her but she tries to dress up as best as she can. Her tops are short-sleeved to accommodate her arms, and dresses and skirts cover her bottom half, if she wears them at all. Her roots act as a cover all on their own.

history
Iora knew she was adopted since she was child, her parents choosing not to hide the fact from her as they felt it was important to build trust early. She was promised that there would be no secrets between them. Even though they weren't related and didn't have a lot of money to their name, they would raise her as if she was one of their own. That was all she wanted really. Loving parents regardless of whether the blood was present.
That love carried Iora through school. Her mutation made her an easy target, where her classmates would highlight her weird roots or try to pluck the flowers off her head. Ugly. Misshapen. Inhuman. All these insults she would tolerate because their opinions didn't matter. Not when her mother and father could easily wipe them away with precious words of their own.
It only took one conversation she unintentionally listened to for her view to shift.
We brought her into this world. She's our burden, no one else's.
She began to notice things then. How stiff her mother was whenever she hugged her. How her father never quite looked her in the eye. Both were too busy to watch the plays she took part in. Neither could make it to her dance recitals.
They were scared of her.
They were scared, yet they still took care of her.
So Iora put on a smile and pretended she didn't know. She was special; her parents kind enough to bring her home and raise her despite the hardships they faced. They couldn't worry her with their thoughts because they knew they weren't in the right. That had to be it. She had to give them time to learn not to be afraid. She had to trust them to do the right thing.
She could help with that even. Heroes were looked to in awe and admiration. Even the strangest ones people would trust with their lives. She was strong. She wanted to keep people safe. Perhaps she'll even be an inspiration to those with mutations as apparent as her own.
Iora's interest struck her parents as odd, and they were worried how she would fare with living on her own, as they couldn't afford for all of them to move if she wanted to train in the best institution there was. She eventually convinced them that she'll be able to take care of herself. With a few years of saving up, she was off to Japan.
And maybe - just maybe - she'll make them so proud that they'll no longer think she's a monster.

quirk
roots ✿ mutation/emitter ✿ B
Using the energy absorbed through the flowers on her head, Iora can grow the roots that replace her lower body to incredible lengths, allowing her to use them as barriers and to bind others. While in her control, the roots adopt her natural Strength and Durability, and due to her plant-like makeup, she's immune to electricity.
While her roots can handle a lot of punishment, she can willfully detach them from her body when need be. Once detached, they cannot be controlled by Iora and no longer receive her energy, resulting in the roots losing strength over time.
drawbacks
Iora must remain still in order to control her roots, rendering her vulnerable if anyone slips past them.
Due to the energy requirement, places deprived of light hinder the growth of her roots.
Unlike the rest of Iora's body, the flowers on her head are fragile, prone to the elements and being cut. Losing one renders her fatigued as she expends more energy than she can draw in. If she loses both, she must wait for them to regrow before she could use her Quirk again.
