Iora smiled at the man's enthusiasm, thankful he didn't show any other reaction to her appearance- at least outwardly. Even after years of experiencing it she wasn't fully used to the awkward looks in her direction. "I'm sure boredom's not that much of a nuisance," she replied with a giggle. "Good to hear about the discount though!" She had the shop she was working at, and while the pay was fine it wasn't exorbitant or anything. She'd still need to save if she wanted to buy anything complex. And speaking of complex, she nodded at his explanation. "That makes sense, especially with Quirks as all-encompassing as mine." She patted her face for good measure before she continued. "At the same time, generic could help find your footing when you're unsure of where you want to excel I think." The pink student fit squarely in that box right now, unknowing of where her skills truly lie. Swinging around was definitely not one of them though. Iora laughed at his assumption with the grappling hook, waving her hands at the thing. "Oh no, I couldn't! I'm not nearly agile enough for that." Having the ability to relocate quickly would be useful but she could already imagine herself slamming into walls with the gadget more often than not. Iora moved back a bit to show the brunette the extent of her mutation. "My Quirk is the roots- I can grow them to block and grab things with." She extended one to wave at the man with it to demonstrate. "I can't move from my spot when I'm controlling them so I rely on my reach to keep others away." Darius Ficsit

Now this was exciting! The Sports Festival was in full swing, and everyone taking part in the challenges was giving their all. Success in them spelt sponsorships and a growing interest from the public, surely spring boarding them ever faster into becoming a hero of renown. Iora... had not entered those challenges. She might not participate at all honestly- finding herself too early in the curriculum to compete against the more experienced students. Going in when she barely learned anything would surely be her downfall. Having such a public blunder simply wouldn't do when she was just starting out. So the freshman wandered through the stalls set up for the event instead. With the festival being so popular, many businesses came out to sell their wares, from snacks to souvenirs to even support gear. It made sense; with students learning the ropes, suiting up was part of their growth. Even Iora thought it'd be good for her to get something. Granted she didn't know what she would need yet. But that's the thing with the displays- maybe something will click with her if she saw enough of them. But so far though, none were clicking. Maybe she really was over head when it came to all the gadgets. Iora raised her hand to wave at the man in charge of the stall. "Excuse me, sorry for being a bother." If she got his attention, she'd press her fingertips together, sheepish. "I'm a new student at UAU. Is there anything you'd recommend for someone just starting out?" Darius Ficsit

"Ooh, Michael. I'll ask him then if he has any suggestions for mine!" This Michael person must be good if he was the one to come up with Oniki. It was just a shame he wasn't in the class right now. "What does he look like so I could find him?"Letting go, Iora smiled, nodding at the blonde's offer. "I look forward to it!" Already she was making plans with someone outside of class. It was a much better outcome than how her interactions would go back home. She tried not to think about it as she nodded again. "Yes, exactly! With your show of strength I'm sure you can assure everyone they'll be safe with you."Her brows rose when the topic was shifted to herself. "Oh yes- at least I hope so! They're fine to touch-" she gasped. "A playground! What a wonderful idea!" She tested out the concept by stretching her roots to make a cage-like structure behind her. It wasn't tall at all - only roughly her height - but she clapped her hands together all the same. "Like a jungle gym! It'll depend on the space we have but that should be fine right?" She didn't want to go too big either way- at least not in the middle of class. When Yoko's attention was diverted, Iora followed her line of sight to a drawing of various cat people. She squished her cheeks. "Awww they're all so cute! You captured everyone so well." She unfortunately didn't know the artist's name, nor could she move closer because of the jungle gym, but hopefully he heard her from where she stood. Now focused back on the assignment, she answered her teammate's question. "They're very tough. Watch." Iora detached a root from the jungle gym so it stood before her. Readying a fist, she swung at it. Only for a crack to ring when she made impact. Eyes widening, she pulled her fist away and sure enough, a fracture line could be seen on the root itself. She covered her mouth with a hand. "Erm-" And turning to the other blonde, she pointed at the break as she let out an awkward chuckle. "Ignore that. But why do you ask?"junsuina, Kikurage Shimeiji, enma, Sora Lucius, Iphigenia Pavlina, Yanai Yoko

"It appears when you have a bad day?" Iora peered up at the cloud in question before focusing on Yoko again, a worrying frown on her face. "That's awful! I hope your day gets better. At least you have your trusty umbrella with you." She must have that all the time then. You never know when your day could turn sour and get worse with soaked clothes. Her brow rose when the other blonde offered her hand again, only for the realization to dawn on her. She wanted to shake her hand after all. Face alight with a smile, Iora took the hand and shook it with gusto. "It's wonderful to meet you Yoko! Is Oniki your hero name? I like it- hopefully I can come up with one that's as good as yours." A good hero name took time though. She was in no rush to find it at the moment. Relinquishing her hand, she nodded at Yoko's question. "Mhmm! You could say the roots are my legs now, I don't walk like the average person. I do more of a slither." Iora pouted at her statement. "And being afraid isn't a weakness. When a child is in distress, it's usually because they're met with something they don't know- so it's the parent's job to teach them what's harmless, not punish them."Iora hummed then. "Though I suppose it's different when someone's distressed during an emergency..." Yeah, this was going to be a tough assignment. Her eyes were drawn to the various shapes their instructor conjured, clapping at the lily above her and giggling at the shoulder devil Yoko had. "A positive distraction, hmm..."Turning to Yoko again, she gasped at her transformation. "Oh wow! What a fun Quirk!" She didn't care at all about how scary it was- it wasn't like she was any better anyway. "I've heard about trolls as a term but not the lore, I'd love to hear more about them sometime." As much as she wanted to listen now, they still haven't come up with a trick! And they needed at least a concept of one by the time the class ends. "For now though, parlour tricks! I'm assuming your transformation comes with increased strength, so maybe you could do things related to it? Like lifting something heavy, or breaking a hard object. I'm sure the children will marvel at how strong you are even with just crushing a pebble with your bare hands."junsuina, Kikurage Shimeiji, enma, Sora Lucius, Iphigenia Pavlina, Yanai Yoko

Iora was nervous. She had just entered UAU, taking her first steps towards becoming a hero when the association called for volunteers in a massive operation. A lab underwater, experimenting on the innocent for their own gain. Creations that were once regular people who lost their sense of selves. They've become monsters waiting to be unleashed should they fail. The prospect of it all was horrible; the idea of providing aid terrifying. There were still hostages trapped inside though. She could at least try to help get them out. The freshman stepped through the teleporter, only to cough once she made it to the other side from dust coating the place. How was that possible? Wasn't the facility in use? Each wing seemed to follow a theme but was the debris really necessary for this one? No time to think on this- there was an explosion she couldn't cover in time, and someone was hurt soon after. She didn't know who they were but it didn't matter- they were dying right now, she had to save them. Keeping herself close to the teleporter, Iora stretched out a root to wrap around the poor man, carefully lifting him up at towards her. "Hello there, I'm Iora." She hadn't thought of her hero name yet so her first name will have to do. "You're really hurt. I'm going to take you to the teleporter and someone on the other side can treat you once you're through okay?" With that she let her root with the man pass through behind her into the device, placing him down before reeling it back and notifying the medics on their new patient. Once that was finished, she looked ahead- and was not particularly thrilled with facing the giant knight using the small ones as fodder. So she called to the other person in the room instead, someone she didn't recognize but she thought looked like they were helping with the way they were trying to control the fire. "Excuse me, I'm Iora! Do you know what we're supposed to do?"
OOC: Iora makes it to the scene in time to witness the giant knights' toss and resulting explosion. She uses a root to carry the Pyromaniac through the teleporter before asking Khepri what they should do. Jesse, Mafdet Khepri

Ah. Not the type to share her name or do handshakes. That's fine with her- Iora lowered her hand unbothered. "Ooh, I don't agree with that name- oh dear." She moved back a bit when the rain started. Glancing up, her brow furrowed when the cloud was only raining on the poor student. She pointed at it. "Is that normal?"Actually, that wasn't important. They needed a better name. "Let's call ourselves Team Potential! We have our own tricks, they just haven't been discovered yet!" The flower student was confident they'll find one, even if it won't involve their Quirks in the end. They had to- being able to calm children is very important in her book. And it was so nice of Recall to display her own. Iora clapped her hands together. "Oh, that's wonderful! What an amazing show of accuracy!" She waved when the redhead made her leave to look after the other students. "Alright, thank you for demonstrating your trick Ms. Pavlina!" She turned to the instructor, waving at him as well with a smile when he addressed her. "And thank you Mr. Lucius! I'm happy to be here!"A man clad in black then came by and to speak to the blonde girl. Oniki? Was that her name? Iora peered down at the painting and gasped. "Ooh, that's beautiful... Though I agree, cats are very cute! I'm sure any child will calm down once they see one."Then the girl gestured to her. Blinking at the hand in confusion, Iora eventually gasped again. "Right! My Quirk!" She swung her arms and roots extended upwards behind her. "I can extend my roots! They can be used as shields and to wrap around things." She waggled her finger then, her roots following the gesture. "Though I will say, punishing the children for being distressed is not the best answer. Is your rain cloud your Quirk? Maybe we could do something with that?"junsuina, Kikurage Shimeiji, enma, Sora Lucius, Iphigenia Pavlina, Yanai Yoko

A shock of blonde and pink stood at the back of the crowd. It was something Iora learned when she was young- in order not to be a distraction to others she must not be in their line of sight. It made sense. Everyone needed to focus on the instructor standing in front so she had no problem keeping herself hidden in a way that she would still be present when called. Standing out would be required soon anyway. She was in a class about improving one's presence to the public, something she had to learn if she didn't want the masses to see her as a monster. Brainstorming parlour tricks though? She's... not quite sure what tricks she could pull with her Quirk, or if there even were any, but maybe her new colleagues might have ideas. As they dispersed into groups, Iora's eyes scanned the crowd. It was telling how well many knew each other - demonstrations, a pat on the head, there was an apology in there as well - that pretty much put her at a disadvantage as someone so new. But! It'll be fine- You can't make friends if you stay on the side. She clapped once. You can do this. And she knew which person she could work with too. Iora moved closer to the fellow blonde and raised a hand in greeting. "Hello! I'm not sure if my Quirk is capable of parlour tricks either, but if Mr. Lucius is alright with us doing something different to net the same result, I'm sure we can come up with that something together." Her hand would then extend towards Yoko and she smiled. "I'm Iora. I'm new here." Then she nodded at the redhead patting the girl's head. "And hello Ms. Pavlina! I hope your day's been wonderful so far."junsuina, Kikurage Shimeiji, enma, Sora Lucius, Iphigenia Pavlina, Yanai Yoko

Patience is a virtue that Iora has in abundance. The world can be an unforgiving place so she tries to make up for it by being gentle herself, responding to the lashes aimed her way with nothing but kindness. She's used to the treatment. She's stronger for it. She can take on what others could not. Her kindness does not make her a doormat however. Unfair treatment is still unfair treatment, and she makes her opinions of it clear with soft but firm admonishment. The advice Iora gives can be unwarranted as a result of her inserting herself into others' business. With a moral compass as steadfast as hers, it's easy for her to get carried away with the lessons she imparts. Overall Iora wishes for everyone to see each other as equals, but knows they have a long way to go. likes ✿ Dancing ✿ Ice cream ✿ Orchids ✿ Sweaters | dislikes ✿ Heavy Rain ✿ Snow ✿ Termites ✿ Smoke |

Iora is a girl with a small frame, with several mutations on full display beyond her pink skin and yellow eyes that lack pupils. Extending off the top of her head are a pair of hibiscus flowers, naturally grown and replaced should they be removed. Three circular crystals are embedded on her person, one on her forehead and one for each forearm. The most unnatural part about her are her legs, which have been replaced with a set of roots. Her movement is akin to a snake. Not many clothes fit her but she tries to dress up as best as she can. Her tops are short-sleeved to accommodate her arms, and dresses and skirts cover her bottom half, if she wears them at all. Her roots act as a cover all on their own. historyIora knew she was adopted since she was child, her parents choosing not to hide the fact from her as they felt it was important to build trust early. She was promised that there would be no secrets between them. Even though they weren't related and didn't have a lot of money to their name, they would raise her as if she was one of their own. That was all she wanted really. Loving parents regardless of whether the blood was present. That love carried Iora through school. Her mutation made her an easy target, where her classmates would highlight her weird roots or try to pluck the flowers off her head. Ugly. Misshapen. Inhuman. All these insults she would tolerate because their opinions didn't matter. Not when her mother and father could easily wipe them away with precious words of their own. It only took one conversation she unintentionally listened to for her view to shift. We brought her into this world. She's our burden, no one else's.She began to notice things then. How stiff her mother was whenever she hugged her. How her father never quite looked her in the eye. Both were too busy to watch the plays she took part in. Neither could make it to her dance recitals. They were scared of her. They were scared, yet they still took care of her. So Iora put on a smile and pretended she didn't know. She was special; her parents kind enough to bring her home and raise her despite the hardships they faced. They couldn't worry her with their thoughts because they knew they weren't in the right. That had to be it. She had to give them time to learn not to be afraid. She had to trust them to do the right thing. She could help with that even. Heroes were looked to in awe and admiration. Even the strangest ones people would trust with their lives. She was strong. She wanted to keep people safe. Perhaps she'll even be an inspiration to those with mutations as apparent as her own. Iora's interest struck her parents as odd, and they were worried how she would fare with living on her own, as they couldn't afford for all of them to move if she wanted to train in the best institution there was. She eventually convinced them that she'll be able to take care of herself. With a few years of saving up, she was off to Japan. And maybe - just maybe - she'll make them so proud that they'll no longer think she's a monster. quirkroots ✿ mutation/emitter ✿ BUsing the energy absorbed through the flowers on her head, Iora can grow the roots that replace her lower body to incredible lengths, allowing her to use them as barriers and to bind others. While in her control, the roots adopt her natural Strength and Durability, and due to her plant-like makeup, she's immune to electricity. While her roots can handle a lot of punishment, she can willfully detach them from her body when need be. Once detached, they cannot be controlled by Iora and no longer receive her energy, resulting in the roots losing strength over time. drawbacksIora must remain still in order to control her roots, rendering her vulnerable if anyone slips past them. Due to the energy requirement, places deprived of light hinder the growth of her roots. Unlike the rest of Iora's body, the flowers on her head are fragile, prone to the elements and being cut. Losing one renders her fatigued as she expends more energy than she can draw in. If she loses both, she must wait for them to regrow before she could use her Quirk again. super movesNone. attributesstrengthA durabilityA vitalityC+
