It would've been a simple fight, it could've been over and done with easily.  Yet due to someone falling prey to their own allergy, there was a last minute switch up.  It hadn't been too long since Kikurage attended UA University and was almost immediately thrust into the Sports Festival without too much of a second notice.  The crowds were already grating on her mind, near impossible to get a peaceful thought to herself; and shuffling through crowds of strangers just ate through her own mental stability faster than usual.  Each interaction with each passing stranger just felt like a drain on her own social battery, keeping up simple platitudes with greetings and hellos and 'good luck out there.'  Given to people she wouldn't give the time of day to without extra probing.

Kikurage was under the impression that she was going to face off against a fellow first year who had a similar quirk to hers in this match up.  However, from what she gathered from a lot of hearsay, the person she was supposed to face off against was doing some last minute quirk experimentations and grew some peanuts from his body.  That same person was allergic to peanuts, and was sent to the Emergency Room at the very last minute.  Kiku couldn't fault the person for experimenting with the quirk, as she did the same with her own Horticulture and Fungiculture hobbies, but that person should've known what they were making.  They should've known not to take such last minute risks, they should've known this or that but it didn't matter.

With this being UA University, she wasn't going to be given the opportunity to have a 'by' round nor could she really afford to re-schedule her fight due to the amount of students in the competitions.  This was her fight, and she was going to get it whether she was ready or not.  And sadly due to the [allegedly] peanut-allergy oaf, she was woefully unprepared.  It all put her brain into a tailspin, as she knew that she couldn't stop her thought processes until the substitute arrived and the actual event began.  Her thoughts fell into a downward spiral of worrying about her own chances due to having a lack of information, caused by an issue that should've been a non-issue, that should've had both Kikurage and this Oaf shine in the Sports Festival in equal amounts.  It would've been a textbook event that would've gone without a hitch, but now that there is no substantial plan then how was she to prepare.

Her left thumb instinctively met her lips as she started to gnaw on the edge of her fingernail, waiting at the edge of the dark exit tunnel that lead to the match platform.  Rocking back and forth from the balls of her feet to her heels, she waited anxiously for the announcer to call her and her opponent forward.  All she had to do was wait...

This all felt so unreal!

Growing up, I used to watch the U.A.U’s Sports Festival with my dad. He’d throw a huge party, inviting everyone and anyone that he knew to it. Hell! My dad would even purchase plane tickets for my grandparents so that they could come! Then all of us–with popcorn and drinks in tow–would sit on that small red couch in the living room and just chill while watching the festival. My dad specifically liked the one v. one fights–having participated when he attended U.A.U before becoming a Pro Hero. Those were good times. In fact, I had my first drink with dad while watching the Sports Festival–that was last year actually, for my twenty-first birthday. It was kinda a bummer that I wouldn’t be with them today. But I couldn’t think about that, right now, after all, they’re rooting for me to come out on top this year.

You know. Never in a million years did I imagine this happening, honestly, it almost didn’t happen. Between social anxiety and low self confidence, I almost didn’t sign up for the sports festival this year, but fortunately or unfortunately, Sensei-Mar convinced me otherwise. So now, here I am, standing at the edge of the arena tunnel waiting for the announcer to call my name. God this felt like a dream or a nightmare. Everyone is watching me. Everyone. Both of my grandparents came down this year for the party! Both of them! Which is a rare sight to behold, seeing that my two grandparents hated each other–especially after the Christmas battle royal that occurred three years ago. But, here they are, at home, in that small red couch, rooting for me.

Hopefully I won’t disappoint them.

Wiping the sweat from my forehead, I anxiously shadow boxed in the shadows. Trying to pump myself up, I nearly had a heart attack when the announcers called me and my opponent’s name.

My mouth immediately went dry as I walked out of the tunnel. Kikurage the Deathcap? God, that sounded like such an intimidating name. Shit. She’s going to have a quirk that’ll put me in the grave, that much I know…shit. Despite the anxiety that swelled within my stomach like a belly ache, I tried to walk out calmly, smoothly, and with a gentle smile. I waved. Heroes did that right? Yeah, I’ll just wave.

I stopped in the middle of the arena, as instructed, and offered my opponent a handshake.

“Let’s try to have some fun? Yeah?”

With the announcer's voice booming from the stadium, introducing the substitute first in the form of Kodai Ryu Marcus, the Dino-might.  Kiku would already feel the apprehension continue creeping up her spine, making her head feel dizzy and woozy from the lack of mental preparation she could've had if knowing her opponent ahead of time.  At least she could count on hero names being predictable nine times out of ten, and the name 'Dino-Might' gave the redhead two ideas as to what this person's power set revolved around.  The first would probably be a pun using the word Dynamite meaning something something explosions, and the other possibility would be dinosaur related.  She hoped it was the latter...

Prancing out from the darkness and into the bright open air, sun shining down on her and Marcus with the roar of the crowd absolutely deafening, Kikurage just felt a dull buzz in her head.  The sooner that this match up begins, the sooner she could use the momentum of the action to hopefully push down her discomforting feelings or utilize them in more meaningful ways.  Wearing the usual UA Spats, Kikurage had her red hair done up in a ponytail whilst observing the guy who stood nearly a full foot taller than her and double her overall size.  At least the arena itself made her and him more equivalent in size in comparison to literally everything else...  Not that it helped her own mentals.

Walking further and further into the arena, Kikurage didn't even acknowledge the crowds whilst reaching the midpoint of the arena where the guy was waiting.  Knowing at least the basic formalities of how these events goes, she would meet his extended hand with her own and shook it.  He tried to talk about having some fun, which the young adult had to bury down the impulse to ask him what was fun about being thrown into combat that wasn't properly vetted to properly showcase both of the participants capabilities?  How fun was it fighting each other for both the future of their careers AND for the entertainment of others instead of practicing more vital skills for the workforce?  How fun was it to get injured?

Swallowing it down, she instead opted to reply with a decent, "Sure, just don't breathe too much else you might catch black lung~."  Adding a smile to this dark joke, as she would walk backwards away from Marcus after the handshake.  The entire time, black mist-like dust seemed to seep out of her hands and ankles, creating a low fog of black spores that started to flow outward and cover the smooth stone ground.  In the small surge of black spores would fungi grow, stemming up from the stone as the Redhead would continue putting space between herself and Marcus whilst terraforming a small portion of this field into her territory.  If he had an explosion type of quirk, then this could be a dangerously massive explosion due to the combustible nature of her fungi.  If he had the Dinosaur type of quirk, then she would know how to proceed from here...

The girl was fast– I had to give her that. As soon as the announcer shouted for us to fight, my opponent immediately launched into action. After shaking hands, the mysterious girl walked backwards all that while releasing a black mist. Was she using a friendly gesture against me? I thought to myself a bit shocked at the action. That was certainly not a tactic that I would think of using! Nor was it the tactic of a hero, but, I suppose in a fight against someone you didn’t know–you had to do non-heroic things to make sure that you come out on top.

Alright, very well then, I’ll play this game.

“Wait, black lung! You gotta be kidding me!” I shouted.

The black fog surged forward. Growing Fungi that sprouted from the stone arena floor, transforming a small portion of the arena into a “fungi wonderland.” It was something you’d see in Alice in wonderland. Fearing black lung and what the fungi could do, I knew that I needed to find some way to disperse the black fog.

Okay, Dino-Eye give me something big and with wings…

With the black fog curling around my ankles, the Hojo Dino-Eye projected an holographic image of a Quetzalcoatlus in front of me. Fortunately, she wouldn’t be able to see it, but after a split second of observation, I nodded with a grin. My body began to change–expanding, and growing as I transformed into a Quetzalcoatlus. A winged pterosaur that was about the same size as a giraffe. Flapping my massive wings, I generated a gust strong enough to disperse the black fog. Pushing it away from me and towards her.

“Okay my turn,” My mechanical voice rumbled. I launched myself into the air, and then charged her–hoping to tackle her into the ground.

[attr="class","really"] [attr="class","exhausted"]Cordyceptic [attr="class","rhythm"] Releasing the black spores and giving him a feint with her words, Kikurage was aware that she had to play smarter than most in order to make up for her lack of talent.  Creating a field of mushrooms and other fungi seemed to be the first step as to gauge how to continue fighting.  Having the element of mystery on her side, she waited for Markus to make the first active move.  She couldn't help but have snide smirk grow on her face at the exasperation of potentially getting Black Lung.  The truth was honestly a little horrifying about what the spores could do to a human body if full pressure of her quirk was applied, but at this level breathing the spores in only triggered allergic reactions at most. As the low roll of spores started to cover his feet did something akin to a quirk started to occur.  His body started shifting and mutating as he rapidly expanded, skin and muscle growing to obscene size as he adopted a much more menacing appearance.  Seems her second theory of him having a Dinosaur related quirk was right on the money, but it didn't seem like that big of a guess thanks to the context given last minute and a trend of how Professional Heroes name themselves.  Even she fell to that trend with the name of Deathcap. With his new size and wings, the Dino-boy started to flap the wings and kick up the black spores that were covering the field.  Sending them back towards Kikurage like a tidal wave, absolutely crashing into the redhead and coated her in these spores.  The field advantaged was reduced by a considerable amount, but this in of itself created a new opportunity.  Using her Mycobiotic quirk, she would start to allow the mushrooms to grow across her body.  The layers of fungal growth started to meld and mesh at her manipulations, creating a sort of armor for herself as strands of odd mushroom growths covered her body. The young woman flinched upon hearing the voice of the Dino-Might echo, absolutely differing from what he sounded like earlier.  With a suddenness to his movements he kicked himself off into the air, before swinging his body down in order to crash into the Mushroom Mantled Madame.  He was definitely excelling in the speed department, his quirk absolutely lends itself to speed and strength. But Kikurage had faith in her ingenuity and variety that the spores granted her.  So as she coughed and felt her bones rattle and shake upon being tackled into the ground, Kikurage's left hand attempted to grab hold of the oversized creature pinning her to the ground.  Her right arm started to accumulate more and more spores, as expansive puffball mushrooms started to grow and expand. Gritting her teeth as she knew she wasn't going to like the recoil, Kiku attempts to slam her Puffy Right arm into the Dino-man.  And if any contact was made, the puffball mushrooms would pop like balloons and burst apart like airbags, attempting to launch Marcus away while simultaneously causing that arm to slam back into the arena with a painful suddenness. >> Kiku utilizes the black spores and mushrooms growing from her body, lightly manipulating them to cover her body like armor >> Allows herself to get tackled and slammed into the grown, her quirk-armor dampening the damage as she swings an arm covered in Puffball Mushrooms to attempt to launch him off of her and towards the edge of the arena (tagged)⏤ Marcus Ryu Kodai ,

“Wow that’s a cool quirk!”

The thought-to-speech device hummed in surprise; mushroom-like growths started to develop on my opponent’s body, forming into a makeshift armor that reminded me of those zombies from that ancient game The Last Days. The armor provided her some degree of protection as I slammed her down into the ground. It seems that, for the most part, when it came to things such as strength and speed, I had the upper hand. But, I must admit, that her quirk gave her a degree of versatility that I did not have.

I went to pick her up with my talons, but she had other palms. My eyes widened in surprise as spores grew in her right arm, taking the form of little puffball mushrooms that grow and expand.

Oh no, this isn’t good. I thought to myself. As she slammed one of the puff balls into my wings, they popped like a balloon with an audible “POOF,” launching me off of her, and tossing me to the other side of the arena. Releasing a loud agonizing screech, I stood, and fluttered my wings again–this time just to flex and feel them. Damn. Admittedly, the little puffball explosion did hurt me, but, it wasn’t going to be enough.

Charging at her was stupid, I must admit, but what else can I do as a dinosaur? But, from our little exchange I learned two things. One. She had a cool quirk that allowed her to create explosive mushrooms. Two. I was physically stronger and faster.

I launched myself into the air, looped, and charged forward–this time mid charge, I would start to transform while getting close to the ground, turning into a massive Tyrannosaurus. Then, hoping to use the momentum of the transformation and the charge, I’d spin around, wacking her with my massive tail in hopes of knocking her back.

The mushrooms helped dampen the blow, but even then a frail nerd like her had no business taking attacks like that. The more she took head on, the more likely she was absolutely going to leave here with broken bones or worse. And that was counterintuitive with her current goals, so it was time to try and be a little smarter. After all, that at least helped her showcase a bit more of her quirk to the plebeian masses. Hopefully she didn't need to do more physical feats of prowess to satisfy their barbaric interests and urges. At least her plan to set up for a counter-attack worked to fruition, growing accentuated puffball shrooms on her arm. Marcus was sent flying, and the majority of the shrooms covering her arm had been completely shredded from the explosive force and taking the brunt of the recoil damages. Her bare right arm was twitching and shaking, as Kikurage got back up to her feet as the monstrous form of Marcus slammed and skidded to a halt. "Not enough..." She muttered underneath her breath, watching the Dino-man pick himself back up. And as he returned in yet another charge, Kikurage's plans had to change once more since it wasn't just a winged dinosaur he can transform into when he reformed into what was considered the King of all Dinosaurs among the wider public. The crowds watching cheered with extreme excite, powered very much so by the applaud of the children who saw the Prehistoric creature come to life before their very eyes. Gritting her teeth underneath the mass of mycotic flesh still armoring her body, Kiku was glad their mindless cheers were dulled by the fungi. The large Dino-Might was spinning, definitely with the intention to try and sweep her backward with the force of his tail.
