a bright, sunny girl of 18 years of age!
that's what she'd have you believe, at least! just like everyone, she has her own baggage: a mother who loves her to the point of destruction, a dying father, the bystander effect of her past. but it all gets too much sometimes. she's a girl freshly out of her mother's sightlines, so she's ready to act like someone she simply isn't. life's a stage to haru, and she's just an actor. god willing, she can make up for a childhood of neglect and control by finally living her life to the fullest, and that starts by finally being who she always wanted to be.
so she covers up the old bruises, hides her scars, and she tackles every day with a smile on her face. to her, it doesn't matter that she's putting on a whole big show for everyone to see. fake it til' you make it, she says to herself, wrapping up the spot on her back where something used to be with gauze and bandages. if people end up liking the new haru more than they like the old haru, well...
good riddance. old haru can go jump off a cliff!

little, but not very mighty!
haru's lithe, svelte like running winds, but slinky, and far too bony for her own good. even so, her skin is soft, her orange hair smooth and silky, and her eyes are bright. she's glad to be alive for once in her life, and it shows in how she takes care of herself.
now that she's finally on her own, too, she's free to experiment with her personal style. everyday she styles her hair in a different way, from bouncing curls to twin braids, from pin-straight locks to quirky updoes. in terms of her eyes, blue as running water, she's cautiously discovered the wonders of contacts. she's still far more comfortable with her glasses, finding it easier to see through them (considering how terrible her eyesight is), but she sometimes walks out of the house with contacts instead. she spends the rest of the day pushing up invisible glasses on her nose, of course, but she's just happy to have control over how she looks for the first time in her life.
the only thing that's remained from her old life, of course, is her amber blood. when she cries, she cries resin. when she bleeds, she bleeds orange. in some way, it comforts her to know that some things never change.

a long time ago, a young girl was born to a shrinemaiden family as old as the edo period.
haru tachibana was the product of centuries of careful breeding. tachibana women, as a matriarchal clan, chose their husbands based on how inane their quirks were, hoping that their inheriting daughters would instead take on the regal tree mutations that remained in the family since quirks began. haru, unfortunately, broke the streak. born with wings and antennae instead of strong branches and roots, she was an immediate outcast, even as an only daughter.
her mother claimed she loved haru, but that wasn't true. sakako tachibana was cruel and unforgiving, a cold woman that never hugged or praised her daughter. haru's father was too passive to do anything about it, so haru suffered in silence. trained in the ways of the shrinemaiden, she was cloistered away from civilized society for as long as humanly possible, educated only in the arts valuable to her mother. all the while, mother's scissors inched closer and closer to haru's wings and antennae. never close enough to cut, just close enough to threaten.
all of this ended when a villain attack on haru's village introduced haru to the horrors of the outside world for the first time in her life. having almost died in the attack (saved only by a split-second intervention by a hero), haru suddenly realized that she didn't want to spend the rest of her life in her family's shrine. she wanted to be what her savior was to her; a source of inspiration, a revelation for those struggling in stasis.
so, by age 18, haru decided to go to u.a university. her mother watched her go, knowing haru would come running back, knowing haru would return to live up to the family name.
but haru wants to do nothing of the sort. haru thinks u.a. university is where she belongs.
mother thinks she's wrong.
