Despite the dark, flowing clothing that Nox wore and the near matching shade of her hair, the young ronin loved nearly any drink that came in pink. On this day the straw of a strawberry bubble tea with a hint of mint rose to her lips for another sweet sip. Brazen enough to reveal one of her favorite flavors to the world, she was more cautious about the two lone blades she normally carried on each hip. People were far more comfortable with flavorful drinks than finely edged blades. Instead of the pair of katanas she preferred, two altered daggers sat tucked at each of her sides. Aware larger weapons would draw attention she currently did not wish for, there was no way she would leave them at home. Society was full of those who thought themselves heroes of freedom when they in fact served the very establishments that sought to block those same freedoms. As it stood, the next generation of heroics were the reason she currently made her way towards Shinjuku Chou Park. UA’s sports festival was underway and that meant the savors of the future were on display. The mere thought of it left a sour enough taste in her mouth to nearly ruin her tea…nearly. In the minority with her opinions or at the very least, the restricted section of Tokyo, Nox knew a small festival took place in the park to capitalize on the event. A large screen erected with vendors and fans gathered, it was as easy a place as any to catch a glimpse of this year's participants. Driven by a mix of curiosity and a desire to judge, confident and purposeful strides guided her to the gathering. Sticking to the outskirts of the crowd, circling around behind one of the many park benches, Nox pulled up to watch the screen with another sip of her pink drink. From an initial glance it appeared that the students were divided into small groups and some sort of race. Eyes drawn to a flash of red, she looked to see a redheaded woman being taken off her feet by her overzealous male partner…and promptly dragged across the ground as he took off. Chuckling as her lips curled up into an amused grin, Nox took another cold sip before offering a comment to nobody in particular. She simply wanted to mock. ”Each year the stock diminishes, doesn’t it? To think they still grant them legal authority to act.” The words began with a bit of amusement, but by the time she finished and added the final word, venom laced them. ”Laughable.” Whether government, school or anyone else, Nox saw how power flowed from the top regardless of merrit. Chiharu

Most of the time, Chiharu preferred to keep to herself and stay far away from any type of big gatherings like this. This time though, she felt that it was important to know what was important to heroes after having a run-in with Kaida. If she was going to be making friends that were heroes, it maybe meant that she had to put herself out there a bit more to get to know what was the recent events for them too.

In reality, all of it was a bit too much for her to handle. The crowd was a bit too crowded and people were overzealous for not a a lot of good reasons. It seemed like it was just a celebration for the wrong reasons. Nothing truly important was getting celebrated as most of the time she felt like the government and heroes didn't do much of significance at all. That was besides the point though, as she was just here to learn more.

Hearing the comment of someone she did not know, she would perk an eyebrow and decide to move a bit closer to her. It wasn't everyday that someone was willing to speak their mind so freely, especially in such a public setting where the wrong ears could listen in. After a few moments, she would speak up. "It's as if they want to have everyone but the real heroes recognized."

On screen the duo she had her eyes on were getting it together, but that did nothing to earn them favor with this particular spectator. Nox was judgemental to a fault or to a fine point if you were to ask her, so regardless of if the students pulled off a victory or not, they still lost from where she stood. Head tilting to regard the stranger, sipping her tea, the red hair and glimmer of purple in her eyes drew Nox’s attention first before she scanned the woman’s smaller stature. Assessments instead of judgment in this case, she then looked back to the screen. ”Nox.” She offered in a rather forward manner, unafraid to share her name alongside her sentiments for the scenes unfolding in front of them. However, she already found herself annoyed and bored with the display, another grandstand for heroics in general. With a huff and roll of her golden-brown orbs, she turned and hopped up onto the back of the park bench to better view the woman. ”Want a sip?” She would ask out of the blue, offering her pink bubble tea to the woman before adding in the same breath, ”Not a fan of heroics, I take it? Calliope

You would think that a student going to an event like this would be out of character. In reality, Calliope didn't have a love for heroes, or the idolized culture that was around them. They were humans just like everyone else, and their feats were not any better than someone else's just because they had a badge to prove it. Just as a red haired girl seemed to get the attention of a dark haired woman, she would walk away before she even introduced herself back. Taking that opportunity to butt in beside another that may feel similar, Calliope would go where the woman before had. "Nox." There was a pause, as if she was trying to get a taste for the name. After scanning her for a moment, she would settle and stand beside her, her face looking at the display in front of them. "Calli."

As she moved back and offered her a drink, Calli's gaze would not fully reach Nox. Staring instead at her shoulders and neck, she would nod and reach out for it. "It isn't something that most people think about. There is distain in me for how things are handled for heroes, and how they are seen." It sounded like something she shouldn't be saying, based on her position, but it was something she felt. "I would never want to be someone like that. It's childish to idolize people like that."

Speaking her name as if testing the word, the ronin looked to regard the newcomer. Her eyes stood out first and foremost, but Nox looked beyond the strangers fair features and dark hair. ”A pleasure, Calli.” She responded in kind. Letting the woman say her piece after that, Nox allowed herself to smile quite honestly as her initial response to the statement. Still smiling as Calli took the strawberry tea to give it a sip, Nox looked back to the screen before speaking again. ”I agree. They are false idols for many and how odd is it that people gather to cheer on those not even legally eligible yet?” She snorted some and took a sip of the hopefully returned tea herself. ”Tch.” Agitation in her voice as she looked back to Calli. ”Don’t get me started on those with a license. What is your take on that? The legal protection they receive and all that.” Eyes tilted to regard the woman fully, wondering where it was this one stood. "Likewise." Meeting people was never her issue, but it was that most people annoyed her or were too boring to really care about. The drink was good, and she felt her eyebrows raising as she took sip after sip. Looking over to the screen as she talked, Calliope would just nod in agreement. Swallowing the amount she had in her mouth and passing it back, she'd finally speak up about the issue. "It's pretty stupid. Idolization of anyone isn't going to get you anywhere. It shows that you need to believe in someone else and not yourself. When it comes down to it, you're fucked if you can't save yourself. These heroes, there's only so much they can do, and they most likely won't be the one to save you." It wasn't possible for people to have heroes on speed dial to save them from bad situations, so that meant that the average person had to be a lot more self-reliant.

When she thought about licensed heroes, she thought of her sister. "I guess it depends on the person. I know a lot of people that don't abuse their power, but it's just... it's so easy to do it?" For someone like Calliope, who had no real control of her quirk other than wearing sunglasses, it was too easy to abuse her quirk if she wanted to on people she didn't like. When you had the power to do so and it could be played off as helping people, why wouldn't people abuse it? "I think that it gives a lot of stupid people protections to use their quirk to force people to do things, in the name of justice." A momentary pause would happen, a quick glance to Nox, and then a continuation. "I don't think that going to UAU should mean you automatically get to be a hero. There is so much more to being a hero than some classes. Some people are just assholes and go to UAU in order to continue to be assholes." Whether Nox agreed or not, Calliope would share her opinion.

Smirking some despite the straw in her mouth, the ronin was quick to support the woman’s words. ”Exactly!” How refreshing it was to hear someone else understand the foolishness of putting all one’s faith into the heroic system. Not only was it corrupt, it was oppressive. Shrugging her shoulders at the mention of a select few utilizing the license correctly, Nox wouldn’t openly disagree. She was willing to concede that a few might do what was right, but one good egg did not save a rotten dozen. When Calli paused to look at her, Nox looked right back. Face calm and eyes steady, she nodded her agreement. ”While the rest of us are thrown in cuffs if we use it as we see fit. Elitism at its finest if you want my honest opinion.” A shake of her head causing the woman’s dark locks to sway about. With the crowd around them, multiple groups cheering for the ongoing sports festival, the two women were allowed to continue to speak freely. ”No, they shouldn’t.” Again, Nox felt her agitation with it all bubbling to the surface. ”Children are allowed to flood the streets without any real life experience. Yet, someone such as myself, with years of training would be labeled a criminal if I used my quirk as I saw fit. Hmph. and they wonder why people lash out?” Chuckling some as if that idea amused her. ”Makes me curious, why are you here, if you dislike the spectacle so much? "It's stupid that you need a license to use something that you were given. That's like asking someone to get a license for talking or breathing. It's important for everyone to learn how to use their quirk, but that becomes hard when you don't give anyone but heroes and a select few civilians the means to do so." That system was stupid to her. For someone like Calliope that had no true control on her quirk, that meant that she could get in a lot of trouble just for looking at someone.

Calli didn't think that it was right for young adults to be able to go out as pro heroes. She doubted she knew what she wanted to do when she was done her schooling, but she would most likely feel obligated to do. Looking at her, it seemed that perhaps she was someone that her sister would freak out with her talking to. Maybe she was a villain, or someone that was "bad" but she really didn't care. In a public place like this, she doubted she would try anything. Then again, it wasn't good to just assume that someone that had been labelled as a villain was bad.

Looking around her, she knew that it wasn't an easy topic to answer. "I guess I like to know what people are up to, what people are thinking is popular. What people would bring up in a conversation. Stuff like this would probably be something that comes up in conversation. I guess, I like to keep in the loop. It allows me to talk shit if I have to." She'd smile a bit at her own comment.

"Agreed." Calliope was surprised that she was getting along with a total stranger so well, but it didn't take her too much to be able to do that. She would look over the girl again, before deciding to sit beside her and have a more eye to eye conversation. "I think it is funny. When people try that hard, I'm not sure they deserve it. It comes off as desperate instead of earned. If you have to fight for people to like you, maybe you're just an asshole?" Calli would say plainly, not really caring what the girl thought of her opinion.

"I would say it's a bit of both. You can be a hero but not be an asshole. But... It's hard to not want to be when it's seen as some amazing thing to be a hero and to be a famous one. That type of job shouldn't be glorified, because then you care more about the fame than actually doing your job. You care about the power more than you care about saving people." It was stupid that so many people she went to school with felt like that, too. Crossing her arms, she would just sigh. "I'm not sure, what do you think?"

The more this one talked, the more the ronin liked her. Like minded in many ways, she was nodding as she spoke. ”That is what they do. Why do you think they televise it all? For the fame. Why do they rank the top heroes? For the fame. Shouldn’t all heroes be “top heroes” if this was about protecting the people above all else? Think about it they do the same for their top targets. It is no coincidence that the villains with the highest threat level are the ones who challenge the systems the most.” Shrugging her shoulders. ”That is what I think.” Turning away from the screen now, bringing her legs up on the bench to cross them under her, she set her elbow to her knee and her chin in her hand. Sipping her strawberry tea, she gave Calli her undivided attention now as her voice lowered. ”So I have to ask, because you have me curious, does this mean you might, let's say….step outside the bounds of the law once in a while?” A small playful smile curved on her face. "Yeah, it's all about being popular. If you're popular, you don't have to worry about things, or so they think. I think really, when you're popular, you have to not be yourself anymore. You have to live up to other people's expectations of you, which can be not even close to who you actually are. They want you to be something that you're not." She'd sigh at the thought of it all. "It just sounds so tiring."

She would agree with her sentiment. "It's a bit silly to me. You can't really be a top hero, not to me. Is that dismissing the rest of the heroes to say that they are lesser, or that they shouldn't try because they aren't on top? It's sad." As Nox's attention focused on her, she felt a bit more self conscious. This woman was very pretty, and they could actually have a good conversation. People like that had been rare so far for her time in Japan.

Wanting to do the same, she would turn and pull her legs up, crossing them in front of her. Calli would raise an eyebrow at her question. "I mean yeah. I've broken shit and drank before I could, partied. Skipped class. Done drugs. I think that everyone needs to live a little, but people are too afraid about what others will think about it." It was a weird sentiment, but one that felt true for Calli. "I'm not gonna sit around and do what I'm told. I know what I want and most of the time it's a lot of things."

Taking in her features in greater detail now, those striking eyes and fair complexion right in front of her, Nox grinned as she revealed a bit of her checkered choices in the past. ”Mmmm, haven’t we all?” Chuckling again and giving Calli’s thigh a slap, she showed she didn’t care much about personal space. ”You are speaking my language, girl. Why should we sit here and cheer for those who don’t even know our names or follow the laws written by people who don’t know we exist? I do what I want, when I want, just like you.” Finding a bit of kinship in a world so often dominated by heroes and their fanboys and fangirls, Nox was glad to have a conversation like this. ”I have decided, Calli, I like you.” A true statement, it was also a playful one as she stuck her tongue out at the end of it. "It's overrated, I don't want people in my business." She'd knew that it would eventually be her fate, but she didn't want to focus on it. Her being on a screen like the people she saw was the opposite of what she wanted out of being a hero.

As her thigh was slapped, Calli felt her cheeks flush a bit. Usually, she was the one that engaged in any physical contact first, so she was a bit baffled when it was Nox instead. "I'm sure you've done a lot too, right?" From the way that she talked, it would be very opposite if she suddenly didn't do anything crazy or rebellious.

She liked her? Ah, she needed to make sure not to take this out of context. She liked her as a friend! They'd only been talking for a few minutes, so Calli would smile as if she didn't almost misunderstand. Sometimes, it sucked not being straight. "I like you too, you get me." She'd stick her tongue out back, mimicking Nox's previous movement and pushing at Nox's leg. "It's hard to get people that really... Make me feel like they understand it." With a pause, she'd scooch closer to her, lean over and whisper. "Hey, should we leave and do something more fun?"
