There, from between the rising steel spires, came the tap, tap, tapping of heel against concrete; an alley, populated by yet a single soul within, awaited in its baited silence, with only the clicking of a sole making life appear welcome in its embrace. Yet, just beyond its borders, there sprung life in the majesty of Shinjuku, a bustling Metropolis of business — regardless of where it fell relative to the line — and commerce, of neon lights and wondrous visages of both the lifestyle and the people. Even as life became known, as its little niceties and agreed-upon standards became meaningful — even despite their absurdity — Dandy still found himself inundated with the ways of things.
[break][break]
Dandy had carved out for himself a corner of the world to call his own, a place in which he, the courier, found peace. He'd held no enemies, nor had he demonstrated himself to be anything more than a man of simple means — as far as the world held him, he was no one of consequence; one who may observe, even interact in some regards, but hardly could he be seen as one to define. Yet, in this corner of meaning, he was the master of his trade. He was of necessity, of meaning. Freedom came to be his, both, in part, from natural capacity and nurtured inclination; the reality of this subsect was as he'd envisioned it. But perhaps as a result of expectation meeting reality, there then arose this creeping sense of foreboding.
[break][break]
Was that all there was? Was he to spend his eternity as a mere courier?
[break][break]
Perhaps to pose the question, then, he'd stepped beyond his role. Yes indeed, Dandy'd requested the company of another on this minor excursion, someone thought to be a befitting companion for the sake of the package hugged by his arm: A square form wrapped within brown-paper, with thin ropes bound across its shape in a cross, rested in his grasp, held there by a gloved hand. An index finger gently pressed against it, dragging itself across the thin outer layer; the faint scraping of leather against paper was heard by he, but likely not most.
[break][break]
And so he waited, with a right hand rested atop his cane whilst his left clung to his duty — though soon to be his associate's. He had his own duties in this task, one particular to his qualities and set of mind, but if word of mouth was to be believed, the package would be well retained by his accomplice.
