[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]Zenkai chuckled slightly at Marlene's confusion "No, quite the opposite, less clothes or skimpier clothes" It was definitely the kind of thing that his fourteen year old self loved to read but now looking back on it he couldn't help but cringe. Marlene didn't need to be reading a book about a boy obsessed with a robot who was half naked most of the time. "Maybe we should find another one besides that, I don't think it aged well"

There was some relief in the fact that Marlene had never dated someone before, The golden boi figured that she didn't, she was a robot after all and she certainly didn't seem like one of THOSE robots. It made things easier, it made Zen more relaxed, he didn't have to worry about looking like an idiot when the other person also had no idea what they were doing. Honestly it made him wonder why he even worried about it in the first place. He could probably just say that everyone did something and Marlene would believe him.

The titan's eyes followed the crimson haired automaton as she walked away from the manga section and over to the self help section, raising an eyebrow as she pulled out a tell-tale yellow and black book from it's shelves "Relationships for dummies" Zenkai read the title as Marlene showed him the cover, bursting out in a fit of laughter as the girl handed him another copy of the book. whether or not Marlene realized it she was spot on. They would both probably benefit from reading at least some of the book.

The titan grabbed the self-help book out of Marlene's hands before gently bapping her on the head with it, it was their thing now apparently. "well, guess this is a reading date now" The titan spoke once he finally stopped laughing. He then reached out and took the porcelain doll's snow white hand, trying to ignore the texture as he led her over to a near by table before sitting down in a chair before trying to tug her into his lap, that's what couples did after all right? Sit on each other? "I'll read the first chapter to you and then you can read the second chapter, Sound like fun Red?" It wasn't the best nickname he'd ever given someone but he'd work on it. Right now it was time to get to know one another.

"... Why do you insist on doing that?"

Marlene returned the bap, as it was customary among humans, apparently. Still, she did not object to her hand being taken. This young man was puzzling the machine, to say the least. He laughed a lot. What was it so funny that she did? The book was appropriate, as both of them appeared to have next to no experience on the matter. 'Perhaps it is that coincidence that he found humorous...' - the automaton thought to herself, as she was brought to a reading table.

The giant boi sat on the chair, and Marlene heard the chair's legs squeak pitifully under his weight. She knew that sound. It was the same sound chairs made under her when she sat on them. The fellow was heavy. Which made what happened next an even sketchier idea, as he picked up her petite frame, and pulled it over to his lap. For a brief moment, the poker-face the automaton had about herself broke, instead turning into concenrn.

"Wait! I do not think that is a good..."

*CRRRRRACK!*

The poor piece of furniture could not withstand 950 lbs of combined weight on top of it. Its legs crumbled underneath and went into separate directions. The seat of the chair would end up on the floor, with Zenkai on top of it, and Marlene - on top of his lap. 

"... idea." - the girl finished the sentence, though the sound of her voice had a reverb of deflatedness and resignation to it. She stood up from his lap and dusted off her dress, before turning around to face the giant doofus, still sitting on the floor. "You will have to compensate the library for the destruction of their property." - she made an emphasis on the first word, before taking another chair, and carefully sitting on it. Very carefully. Testing the waters first. This incident reminded the automaton of her own weight, something she was very acutely aware of. Her lips thinned a little without her commanding it, her face expressing a shadow of a frown. It's like these expressions appeared on its own. She opened the book.

"I will read the first chapter. How to plan a date in ten easy steps. Step one. Come up with an awesome date night idea..."

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]"Dunno, fun to do, at it was pretty cute when you do it. It was that or the nose boop, your choice" Zenkai wasn't exactly sure why he did it in the first place or why he kept doing it. It was pretty cute to see the robot imitate his gestures but was that all there was to it? He wasn't exactly the most affectionate person in the world, was this his way of showing it? Honestly it wasn't something the Zen wanted to think about for the time being. He didn't want to think about why he did things, he just wanted to have a little fun.

Fun was definitely had when Zenkai pulled Marlene into her lap. He had been used to chairs barely holding his weight and didn't even think about the additional 450 pounds went he finally got her onto his lap. It was only when the wooden chair finally quit being a chair, tossing them both to the ground did he realize his mistake. If they wanted to sit together they'd probably need to do it on the floor, or on something made out of reinforced steel.

The golden boi let out another bout of laughter as he laid out on the floor. Once again Marlene had shown yet another emotion on her face. It might not have been the one he was looking for but he would take any of them at this point though he sincerely doubted that the concern was for him and more for the chair.

"Didn't think about that" The titan chuckled as he started to scoop up the pieces of the broken chair "Guess my butt's just too fat" He had learned from a young age that he should never comment on a girls weight, even if she was a robot. Besides, he was at fault for pulling the stunt and he didn't want her to think he was trying to place blame on her by comment on how heavy her frame might be.

The Sapphire-eyed titan took a seat down next to the mechanical girl, resting his chin on her shoulder as she read the first chapter so he could read along with her. An awesome date night sounded kind of cheesy to Zen but then again he didn't know the first thing about dating so the book was probably right. while the first idea that came to mind was definitely not going to replace an actual date night, he was starting to formulate a plan. One that would both be fun and get him out of paying for the broken chair.

"what does it suggest for date ideas? Cuz I've got one cooking."

"Yes, yes it is."

Marlene replied to Zenkai's assertion that he had a fat butt. Whether he knew it or not, or whether Marlene realized it, his decision to rightfully take all the blame was ... appreciated. The automaton did not like comments about her weight. She was aware of it, after having destroyed a couple of her mother's old chairs. She was reminded of it every time she walked into a crowded elevator and the weight overload alarm bleeped red. It was ... the closest thing she felt to embarrassment. And annoyance. Why were bad things so much easier to feel than good ones?

The machine's mind refocused from trying to find answers to that philosophical inquiry, and towards what they were doing. 

Her eyes scanned through the page that talked about finding a good place for a date. 

"The book does not recommend cinema and restaurants for the first date." - Marlene said, summarizing her findings. "It says that in a cinema theater, both participants are too busy looking at the screen and following the film, to be interacting with one another. A dinner date means that their mouths would be often too busy to talk. It also puts a lot of pressure on either individual to generate conversation."

She flipped a few pages over.

"The book recommends mutually-enjoyable activities, games, and sports. Ice skating is presented as an example." - the automaton girl quirked an eyebrow. She never tried skating before. Then again, she never tried much of anything, it being only three years since her construction. When Zenkai said he had ideas, Marlene looked at him a bit incredulously.

"What ideas do you have?"

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]Zenkai gasped in mock offense as Marlene agreed that his butt was fat. He knew she meant no actual harm by it, she was just stating the facts, he was heavy as fuck. It had been a problem for them for most of their life but he never thought most of it. In fact, he found it pretty funny that he walked around just breaking chairs. Besides, he didn't mind taking the full blame, he didn't really care if he got in trouble for it, even though he knew they wouldn't.

The titan leaned his head on his fist as the crimson haired android continued to read from the dating book, studying her face and trying to figure out how he felt about the girl in front of him. She was beautiful, she looked just like a doll with her delicate porcelain skin and fiery scarlet hair. She looked perfect but every time he touched her they knew she wasn't human. Did that matter though? Did he actually care if she wasn't really human? Did he actually feel anything towards her at all right now? He knew the answer: He didn't, at least not yet. But that's how relationships were in the beginning right? You didn't actually feel anything about the other person right away and would just eventually develop feelings for them as time went on. He decided he didn't really care about that for the moment anyway, either he'd end up liking her or he wouldn't and to be fair, he was pretty sure Marlene wouldn't care one way or another.

Zenkai lips spread out into a grin as his date asked him for his idea "well...I know the perfect bonding activity to bring us closer together" Zen pointed to the pile of wood that was once a chair. "You and I can sneak this chair out of here and bury it in the garden so that we never get caught and I don't have to pay for anything!" The golden boi leaned in to look at Marlene's reaction "And then this weekend we can go to the indoor rink and we can ice skate, or skiing...Or snowboarding. It might be summer but thanks to technology we can still do the winter activity of your choice, how does that sound?"

Marlene tilted her head to the side, as she listened to the idea that Zenkai proposed.

Her expression slowly changed from neutrally-curious, to blatantly incredulous once more. This was the most action at simulating genuine emotion her face received in a while. Usually, she just forgot to do it. However, as she processed the idea, the more ridiculous it was appearing to her.

"You are trying to conceal the damage of your own doing in order to get out of paying for the destroyed chair. And you want me to become an accomplice by helping you smuggle the broken remains out of the library." - the automaton girl stated blatantly. Her eyes shifted away from Zen's face, going left, then right. Namely, towards the corners of the library room. Surely there had to be cameras... somewhere.

"I cannot condone such actions." - she said, picking up the big stack of books full of perverted literature that the librarian had recommended to her. "Neither will I act as a distraction for you to be able to smuggle the remains of the chair out of the library unnoticed, while the librarian is busy processing the books that I am about to return." - Marlene added a very specific denial.

"And any chances of us meeting in the garden afterwards would be completely arbitrary and not premediated in any way or measure." - she added an even more specific denial.

With that, Marlene went over to the librarian desk and placed the large stack on the counter, right in front of the librarian. There had to be at least 20 books in here. All of which he had recommended earlier and made the machine waste her time and effort, thinking she was getting somewhere. 

Totally not blocking the view for Zenkai to carry the chair out of the library. For sure. And Marlene was not being petty about a minor grievance. No sir, not petty at all.

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"] Zen was always pleasantly surprised whenever Marlene's face showed anything close to resembling emotions. It usually came in the form of an incredulous look but honestly, he'd take that for a win, anything was better than her oddly cold, unblinking look that she had plastered on her face most of the time. It was a cute look too, seeing her confused and exasperated when she was otherwise cold and calm. It made the titan proud that he was able to put a look like that upon her face and he knew he'd at least be able to recreate that look on her face over and over again. He was a ridiculous person after all and his antics would just continue to get worse the more time she spent with him.

At first Zenkai was a bit upset that Marlene rejected his first date idea but it soon became quite clear that she was saying secretly saying yes while explicitly telling that she wouldn't so so just in case anyone was listening. It honestly surprised the golden boi a little bit that someone who seemed so literal and by the book would accept his date idea "It's cuz of the librarian's joke isn't it?" Zen grinned as he collected the pieces of the chair while Marlene left to distract the Librarian.

It didn't take very long at even much for the monkey king to sneak the chair by the distracted librarian and his future girlfriend. Zen was a big dude and could easily shield the broken pieces of the chair with his body while he snuck them out to the garden where Marlene had not told him to wait for her. Once safely out of sight from everyone Zen dropped the pile of would on the ground and waited for Marlene to arrive.

The second the scarlet haired android made her appearance Zenkai would run over to her before planting a kiss on her forehead "You are literally the best you know that? AND you got to prank the Librarian back for being a dick! How does it feel to be a prankster? a ne'er-do-well? Feels good doesn't it?"

Yes, it was because of the librarian joke.

While Marlene gave him back all the books, Zenkai successfully escaped. Her little bit of revenge was complete. But as soon as that happened, the machine went thoughtful, quiet. Why did she do it, really? Was it an impulse, like an emotion? Or did she try and achieve something with it? Was it satisfaction? There was ... nothing really, after that happened. And the absence of anything after the impulse was gone and by was ... thought-provoking, and troubling. 

She was thinking about all the way to the gardens, where she found the tall delinquent that she had become an accomplice to. He was happy to see her, even kissing her on the forehead, like one would a little sister. She did not reject the sign of affection. But when asked about how did it feel to be a prankster and a ne'er-do-well. Marlene processed the feelings and emotions she felt. Or lackthereof. Her shoulders drooped a little, she looked a bit down.

"I know what I should be feeling, but I do not."

Having reached behind herself, the girl pulled out a bag, which she dropped to the ground. It it there were a couple of shovels she took, having found them near the garden. Probably the garden keeper's tools. She picked one of them up, and put the spade to the ground, starting to dig the hole for the chair. A few long moments later, Marlene suddenly broke the silence.

"You said I was literally the best. Who was I being compared with?"

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]Zenkai had gotten used to Marlene's lack of emotion pretty quickly so when she slumped her shoulders and looked down he wasn't surprised by it at all. Though he couldn't help but feel that Marlene looked a bit sad in that moment, like she wanted to have felt something even though she didn't. what he was surprised by was that she didn't immediately headbutt him when he went to kiss her forehead, was it because they were dating now? It wasn't exactly the most important thing on Zen's mind. He wanted to help Marlene feel something instead of being sad and hollow. No one should have to feel like that. Not even an android.

The titan let out a loud chuckle and bapped Marlene's head as Marlene dumped the shovels onto the ground and began to dig. He didn't even think about using shovels, he was just going to use part of the chair to dig a hole but the shovels would make things much faster. Even though Marlene said she didn't feel anything from being an accomplice to his mischief she certainly seemed to be ride or die and honestly, he was here for it.

It didn't take them long to make a decently sized hole in the ground that would serve as the chair's final grave. The digging was only interrupted by Marlene's question, which, considering she didn't ask immediately, meant she thought about it for sometime before posing it.

"Yes, you're literally the best" The golden boi grinned before continuing "Better than basically anyone else I've met in this school, better than Thea, Robin, Freja, Farrin... The teachers, and any of the other people I've met here. I mean, I guess it's not a lot of people but still, You're at the top of the list, congratulations, you win a prize Mar-lene-chan~" Zenkai grinned as he spoke her name in his usual sing song voice before leaning down and poking her nose.

As Zenkai started listing out the people she was being compared to, Marlene listened. Even if she was methodically digging the hole all the same time. Most of these people were unfamiliar to her, except one name, that did ring a bell. Thea. She met that girl during her entrance exams. And later in the cafeteria, where she tried to peruse her mind, without finding many answers. Having thought about it, for a few moments, Marlene answered:

A wind-about way to say that she was 'one-of-a-kind.' Unless, of course, mother made her some siblings she did not know about. 

Soon enough, the hole was dug, the chair dumped into it, and promptly buried. Marlene was very methodical about it, too. Even planting patches of grass on top to make sure the spot was not easily found, if looked for. Patting the earth with the shovel, she soon put the tool away. Then, turned to face Zenkai, and extended a hand to him. A few moments passed, as though she was expecting something.

"You said that I deserve a prize. I would like to receive it now."

She looked up at the tall fellow, expectedly. Taking his words a bit too literally, as always.

"I guess it's true, I can safely say I don't believe I've ever met a person like you in my entire life...Or Robot...Or Android...Or Automaton...whatever you want to be called." It was true too, the golden boi had never met anyone quite like her in his entire life, everyone he had ever met besides the monks he lived with were a lot more emotional than she was. Whether that was a good thing or not had yet to be seen. Was there even a point in dating someone who would never fully be able to love you like an actual human? Would he be able to love her? Wasn't that the point? She was a safe choice, no chance of actually opening up or hurting her. Or getting hurt.

With the chair now buried and the secret sealed between the two of them Marlene extended her hand for the promised reward. Honestly, Zenkai had completely forgotten about his promise. He tended to say a lot of nonsense to get people to along with him and just hoped that they'd forget about it by the time things were all said and done. Unfortunately Marlene wasn't normal and her memory was certainly better than most people, she wasn't easily distracted either which didn't help much. This left Zen in a rather precarious position. He didn't exactly have anything to give her as a reward so he had to think fast. Then it hit him.

In one quick motion the King of the Monsters grabbed Marlene's hand and pulled her into him before wrapping an arm around her waist. "For you're reward" Zenkai grinned as he looked down at her. It wasn't his usual goofy grin, it was a hungry, toothy grin, one that a monster would give after finally catching their prey. Zenkai had seen a similar scene like this before in manga he read at it had worked remarkably well on the female protagonist though the titan was under no illusion that it would be as effective on his date.

The golden boi bent down until he felt Marlene's the silicon of Marlene's ear brush against his lips before whispering "I'll make your dream come true, I Promise to make you feel every emotion possible. Good enough for you?" Zenkai pulled his head back as he kept his grip on Marlene's arm and waist as he stared hungrily into her eyes, searching for any sign of an emotional response but knowing there wouldn't be any.

Zenkai was fortunate that the girl he was hitting on so much was Marlene.

Any other girl would have been terrified by his display... Or his handsiness. Grabbing for the waist and pulling the petite automaton to his chest like that. Fortunately, physical discomfort was not a very familiar concept for Marlene, save for a few instances of it. And there were no people around to keep up the facades of civility for. It was not the physical actions, however inappropriate, that solicited her reaction. 

It was the words, and the promise. 

A declaration of intent, to help her be able to fill every emotion there was. To succeed in the purpose which she was built for. The only thing Marlene really cared for, upon inception. Whether intentional or not, it was the best thing Zenkai could possibly say to her. For the first time, within those dull, dark glass eyes, he'd think he could see... a spark. Filling the machine with determination. Still held close, Marlene reached up, and wrapped her hands on the fellow's collar. Using it to pull him down to her level, given the tremendous height difference. Looking him straight in the eye.

"You will make me feel every emotion possible. I will hold you to that promise."

It was possible to see Marlene's eyes shift a bit to the left, then to the right. Many times, as if she was reading something within her mind, or making calculations. She was quickly revising all that she had read and seen so far, in order to determine what was the next logical procedure for this, arguably, awkward situation. She had to do something, to reciprocate. Zen did promise her the world just now, after all. Something no one else has ever did. Refocusing back on his face, the automaton girl leaned forward. And pressed a small, dry kiss against his lips. It lasted less than a moment, in time.
