Thanks to the encouragement of both Freja and Rin Emilia had decided to put her name in for a mentorship with an upperclassman. It was a pretty large leap for her, barely having any experience with her quirk outside of necessity, and have not enrolled at UAU too long ago. The opportunity looked to be worth it even if she had no idea who she would be assigned to. Hopefully, it would be someone nice!


When the time came she received a message from a Junsuina - a second year in the Hero Course. They would be going on patrol at the Kiyashi Ward Shopping Mall and making a brief stop to pick up something for Jun. Huge relief for Emi as she was nervous about getting placed with someone who took everything way too seriously. Some of these upperclassmen were really scary! She didn't have a hero costume yet so she showed up in her gym clothes, ultimately unsure as to what to expect. She figured a routine patrol wouldn't be too bad of a first outing and maybe Junsuina could give her some advice!

She had applied for the mentorship role at the behest of one Lone Wolf, mostly due to the fact that, "You can't be an inspiration to others if you don't know how to lead." She didn't expect to be chosen but the universe that be selected her. And in truth, she was still trying to find her feet when it came to stuff like this. In truth, she'd prefer it if another upperclassmen took the reigns. Although...that'd put Gen on the table, and it would be better to steer people clear away from him. And so she accepted her fate, and told the newbie when and where to meet her. Emi was told it was a patrol, but the truth of the matter was a new volume of a manga she read was being released, and she wanted to get her hands on it. The fact of the matter was, Jun was not eligible to run patrols. She was not licensed, and was a ways off from having that. It was the only way she could be proactive in her journey to become a hero. But it'd be interesting to see how this girl handled being in a public setting. She took a breath, buried her nervousness, and seeing her kohai waved her down. "Hey! You Emi?" Emilia Hall

Emi was very much not good with crowds. She figured Junsuina must have been such an experienced and cool hero already if she was willing to take someone she didn't know with her on a patrol. The idea of who Junsuina was only became more impressive as Emi got more and more nervous, being parked outside of the place in her gym clothes was clearly attracting some attention. UAU uniforms weren't exactly inconspicuous after all.

After awkwardly trying to explain to some kids who stopped to ask all about her school she felt herself burning up as she didn't want to let them down but also was inexperienced enough to not know what to say aside from some generic dribble. The kids were old enough to pick up on this and left feeling dejected. As she watched them go she felt that she should have said something better and just as she was about to say something, Jun arrived. Nearly jumping she waved back sheepishly taking a good look at her senpai 'She's so pretty' was the first thought that came to mind as she acknowledged Jun's question "Yes! It's nice to meet you Junsuina-senpai! Thank you for agreeing to take me along with you today." she wasn't super familiar with Japanese culture but she did know that bowing was a sign of respect and so she did just that.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun would be in standard street clothes. Worn jeans, graphic tee, light red jacket and a ballcap on. She was not equipped for a patrol at all. Looking Emilia up and down, she tilted her head and couldn't help but pose the obvious: "Why are you in your gym uniform?" It was weird to her, especially in her mind this wasn't a patrol, but she couldn't help but pose the obvious. She had seen the kids scamper off, her brow furrowed a little but ultimately gave a shrug. "I gotta make a quick stop, and then we can start walking around. That alright with you?" She'd indicate that Emi follow, and she'd start making her way towards her destination. "So...you're my new kohai, huh?" She wasn't intimidated, but she did feel very unsure of herself. Did Kaida feel this way when she had to deal with Jun? Was it a constant recurring issue that Kaida had to face? Surely things had gotten better between them, right? "So...uh. What brought you to the whole hero thing in the first place...?" They'd reach the bookstore, and stepping inside Jun would start scanning for the new section. Emilia Hall

Immediately Emi could feel that she made a crucial mistake. Jun was very much not dressed for what she expected to be a patrol instead wearing very casual clothes. Her heart started beating faster as her anxiety began to grow only to reach its peak when Jun asked why she was in her gym clothes. Her face immediately turned a deep red as she literally cringed from how uncomfortable the situation was. "U-uh" she stammered trying to get her words out with her throat feeling as dry as it was "I think I misunderstood what we're doing today..." she averted her gaze clearly feeling shame for this mistake even if it was something that ultimately wasn't such a big deal.

Thank god Jun didn't dwell on the matter any longer instead suggesting they get moving. "Absolutely!" Emi called out in response as she quickly followed Jun, happy to move away from the awkwardness and hopefully have a genuine mentorship from her senpai. As they stepped inside the bookstore Jun asked the million dollar question, why was she here? UAU wasn't an easy school to get into and it wasn't like anyone in Emilia's family had attended before. Luckily, in this case, Emi actually was prepared as she was asked this exact question fairly frequently by other freshmen "Well my family has always moved around a lot because my dad is in the military, in America that is" she wasn't sure how worldly Jun would be and didn't want to presume she'd know where Emi was from "I guess it was mainly to put down roots? I've moved a lot since I was a kid and during high school, I was told that my quirk was particularly suited for hero work" since she couldn't really show her she wasn't sure what the best way to explain it was, but luckily for her she was in a comic book store! So she pointed to one of the posters on the wall that had Magnificentman on it Superman "I've got a quirk sort of like his superpowers?" she didn't like to brag but it was pretty handy for getting out there and brawling with the bad guys "What about you jun-senpai? What made you join UAU?"

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... She glanced at the poster that Emi had pointed out, raising an eyebrow. That was...oddly relatable. Like, super relatable. "So wait, you can shoot lasers from your eyes and fly and all that fun stuff?" She assumed she had the strength and speed, so there wasn't much to that. She couldn't related to the other stuff, though. While she did move a few times, it was always within the same general area. She wasn't sure if this was the profession to set roots down in. She picked up the books she was looking for, her shoulders dropping in relief. "Whew! Was afraid that they'd be sold out," she says, the book being about something about a witch from Mercury or something like that. She turned, about to answer when there would be a commotion from outside the store, a gang of men wearing masks beginning to roam the mall outside. Jun's body posture before told of anxiety and uncertainty, but now there was something different. Approaching Emi, she'd hand the book off to her as her jaw set. "Take this, go to the back, and call the police," she says, turning to walk right back out the door and deal with the marauders. Emilia Hall

Emi gave a small laugh and gave a dismissive wave of her hand "No no! I think that would be real cool but the only other thing I can do is slow my fall? Like floating slowly down." she didn't think it appropriate to give a demonstration as she didn't want to crack the flow in this nice store. She was sure it was reinforced slightly as there were mutants much bigger and heavier than her but she wanted to make a good impression on her new senpai! She'd already had one embarrassing experience today and was very much not looking forward to another.

As Emi flipped through another book she looked up at Jun, seeing her attention on something past them she took a look herself and saw the masked men. "Y-Yes ma'am" she took the book from Jun and headed to the back of the store. Luckily for them, the store had cleared out organically and so Emi didn't have to evacuate anyone. She quickly dialed the police and explained the situation as best as she could, noting that she and another UAU student were on the scene. The police advised them to stay put but added that if they felt it was necessary to get involved that they should. "Jun-senpai the po-" she didn't get to finish her sentence as Jun as walked out the front to confront the men. Emi darted to the front of the store, ducking down in front of a bookcase to watch what her super cool senpai would do to deal with this.

"We are the distraction, and we need to keep up the distraction as long as possible. Failure to do so-" "Hey, poozers!" The sudden call from behind caught their attention, and in turning they'd see Jun standing there, fists clenched and eyes ablaze. "You better not be here to start trouble. I still remember what you did to that old man." The ringleader would pause a moment, then his eyes going wide as he pieced together where he'd seen her before. "New plan," he says, raising up his club and pointing it at her. "We're taking her tongue. Get her!" Two of the burlier gang members began to move forward, and Jun put up her hands. This was not an idea situation to be in. Outnumbered, outmatched, and gearless, she had to fall back on the one thing she trained more than anything else. Channeling her fear she would immediately backpedal while conjuring a pair of chains, making an impromptu set of bolas that would fly out at her targets. Instinctively the two men would start to dodge, but unfortunately for them she was capable of manipulating where the chains went. Like a pair of vipers they still found their mark, wrapping around their legs and bringing them to the ground. The fight was on. Emilia Hall

Emi watched her senior intently unsure if she was feeling more anxious because of the danger or if it was due to the anticipation to see how Jun handled the danger. This was her first time ever seeing a non-simulated situation of this caliber. Her eyes were darting around the area as the few people who were in the area began to scatter.

Moving up to the door she peeked her head around the corner as she heard them talking. It seemed that Jun had already dealt with these guys before and them realizing that made her jump into action. Her eyes widened as she watched Jun use her quirk, throwing yellow chains out which grabbed the two men and subdued them easily. Perhaps it was due to Jun's focus on what was in front of her but from Emis's vantage point there was another one taking aim at her with a pistol.

Before she could even register the threat fully her legs were moving. She wasn't even sure what she could do but she knew that letting her senpai get shot was something she wouldn't let happen. As the gun fired Emi placed her body in the way, crossing her arms and activating her quirk. The ground cracked beneath her feet as the bullet collided with her reinforced skin, not being able to penetrate it but she winced from the pain. "What kind of coward does something like that??" her temper flared as she launched herself forward, tackling the man to the ground to give Jun some room to work. She seemed so calm about the whole situation, that's an upperclassman for you!

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... The first two opponents were subdued, but Jun knew that these two fools were not the real threat. Well, they were a threat, but nothing that a little leverage from her quirk could fix. The chains wouldn't be held up forever, but for now the wall was dealt with. As she brought her attention up she saw the ant-man raise a pistol, her heart sinking. She could dodge, but he was going to shoot anyways, or she could create a shield to redirect or soften the blow. The downside to the later of those was freeing the goons she had just subdued. She could always do something to deal with them after, but- Before she could do anything Emi had stepped in front of her, and the appearance shocked her to the point of inaction. The chains around the goons dissolved as an unyielding rage took the place of her fear; Emi was dealing with the welder of the gun, and she'd have to get involved later, hoping that her kohai wasn't too injured. Instead, she turned her attention to the pyro quirk user on the ringleader's other side, who was preparing a response to Emi in his hands. Jun wasn't going to give him the opportunity to use it. Pushing off with great speed, a giant warhammer formed in her hands as she closed the distance, cocking it back and swinging laterally with great force. The last thing Jun saw on the man's face was a look of panic as he tried to redirect his focus on Jun, only to be sent flying into a nearby wall, effectively taking him out of the fight. Carrying the momentum, she'd turn and bring the hammer up above her head, attempting to bring it down on the ringleader only for him to backpedal, swearing all the wall. "You crazy bitch! And now there's two of you?! Like vermin!" Emilia Hall

The pain would dull over time but for Emi she was still feeling an adrenaline rush. Her heartbeat sounded in her ears she was just now processing what she had done. She didn't even realize she could block bullets and was very VERY happy to realize this was the case. Jun had shown her nothing but kindness and whatever problem these guys had wasn't something she felt was worth shooting someone over!

Having pinned the man her attention was briefly pulled away as she watched Jun change up her tactics. Out of nowhere, she pulled out a giant Warhammer! Just how much could she do? The man she had tackled took this opportunity to sucker punch Emi out of nowhere and then cried out in pain as he clutched his hand "What the hell, are you made of stone!?!" emi's temper flared as she took this opportunity to return the favor slugging the man in the face and knocking him out cold. "Senpai I'm all good here!" she called out to Jun, with the threat of a firearm gone she could now focus on getting the ringleader.

It let Jun focus, which spelled disaster for the ringleader. Keeping that fire alive, she'd move in and continue to swing at the man, each one narrowing missing the target. "You really think you can keep up with me?!" he screeched, looking for an opportunity to swing back. "My quirk can predict each of your moves before you make them, you'll never land a blow on me!" "Hasn't stopped me before," she says, stopping one of her swings halfway as he hopped back. Unfortunately for him, he didn't anticipate that she had a much finer control of her constructs than he thought, mentally propelling it at high speed at his chest. He'd go down, crumpling to the ground about ten feet away. She turned around, the two men she initially captured beginning to make a run for it. She wanted to go after them, but it was best not to. Instead, she'd turn her attention to Emi, running over to check her over. "I heard a shot, where are you hit? We have to stem the bleeding and-" she'd pause, seeing the bullet wedged right in the middle of Emi's chest, held in place by her...assets. "...Huh. Man of Steel, move over," she muttered, pointing to it. "Well, uh...at least you're okay? Right?" There wasn't much to do now except wait for the police. Well, maybe tie up the goons, but definitely police. Emilia Hall
