In the simplest terms, Sonya is somewhere between a fae queen and a devil. She can be benevolent and kind. She can be chaotic and whimsical. She can also be down right tyrannical. Sonya believes firmly that the world that came before Hero Society is a world not worth returning to, and that should society become too complacent it will invariably turn in on itself. This nihilism is born out of a concern for the militarization of quirk users and vigorously resists that apocalyptic future. Instead, she sees the dynamic between heroes and villains as essential to maintain this new pseudo-world peace that has been achieved since the dawn of quirks. Thusly, she'll maintain it, even if she has to become the worst villain in the world.



That and its so much fun!



Sonya is a mischevious creature, she enjoys playing and laughing, dancing about and cracking jokes. She enjoys simple things and decadent luxuries and won't hesitate to flirt with every pretty thing in the room. With a rose in her hand and knuckles against her lips, she'll woo her way into whatever she wants. She is nosy beyond comprehension, often popping up when people least want her to in audacious clothing to ask questions and poke holes in peoples personal dilemmas. She wants to see the people around her grow and develop so that her own plans can come into fruition by extension. Supporting others has become her business and so she will sponsor and counsel hero and villain alike if it means success. She is notorious for her kind treatment of her employees.



When in the role of Ishtar, she can be absolutely and unrepentantly cruel. Nothing is off the table and lives can be lost as easily as she breathes. She maintains a bit of her showmanship from her Sonya side, and prefers to put on a show for the heroes while also attacking them where it hurts. That said, she rarely involves herself directly with heroes or even villains, prefering intermediaries when acting in the role of Ishtar. When interacting with her allies Ishtar can be rather friendly to the point of almost being motherly, treating the villains with a shocking level of understanding and sympathy.



Sonya has a complex about lying. She can't, and will be very blunt and honest when addressed directly if she does not have means to redirect or circumvent the question. And becomes quite upset when put into a position that would make her a liar (ie, a promise is broken as a result of another's action).

Sonya is a frankly infuriatingly pretty woman with a petit frame and dainty features. As white as snow with hair to match, she looks like a white marble statue come to life. She wears her hair long and down flowing over her shoulders. Her eyes are prosthetic and change color often depending on her whims (she uses an app to adjust them). She rarely is caught without a smile on her face, though it usually is a grin of some kind.



In public, Sonya wears classy clothing, suits, ties, dresses, whatever is the prettiest and most expensive thing for the occasion. She loves big sunglasses and hates audacious jewelry, preferring to let the clothes themselves do the talking.



As a Villain, Sonya wears a simple black and gray outfit with a rebreather over her face to mask her appearance and distort her voice. Her skin's glow makes it even more difficult to identify her.

Sonya was born in Kola, Russia, and her quirk activated during incubation. The catastrophic damage it caused to her eyes and muscle tissue rendered her basically infirm for the first dozen years of her life. She was forced to depend on her family for everything growing up. As a child she attended school remotely, her blindness and parapalegia leaving her unable to attend in person. It was her deep love of education and learning as well as her insatiable curiosity that ended up saving her. Her scores were discovered by the Russian government who had already taken an interest in her quirk. She was offered an opportunity to turn her life around, cybernetic implants and a world-class education in exchange for five years of service.



Even then, Sonya knew the 'five years' was a lie.



Sonya was thirteen when she walked for the first time, she was thirteen when she saw the world for the first time, and she was thirteen when she killed someone for the first time.



After going to school she graduated with top honors and began her work as an agent of the Russian government. Her family was sent away to the United States with a permanent stipend and her existance erased from the public record. For five years she saw first hand the horrors of a world where quirkers were turned into soldiers. Five years and she had enough. She along with her associates orchestrated the deaths of their handlers and the destruction of all records involving their existance. Sonya was a free woman, and decided to start a new life as a civilian. But some things never changed.



Sonya made her way to Japan and began working as an apprentice at a technologist's workshop. Eventually starting her own business, ASTA corporation. A high octane party girl after a life of rigidity, she embraced fashion and excitement. As she worked, she began to watch the movements of society and realized just how important the relationship between heroes and villains was to the status quo and to a peaceful world (or at least one free of international conflict). That single thought drove her to begin quietly funding villains, providing them with the gear she designed. Soon she was taking on the monicker of villain herself.



The role she played became truth. Sonya Chernovna became Ishtar.

Sonyas skin glows uncontrollably when using her quirk. This can result in minor exposure to those nearby (friend and foe) and completely eliminate any stealth advantage in darkness. Exposure to her quirk does not cause lasting damage in small doses, only resulting in minor aches, lowered body temperature, and mild headache.
