As Shō would adjust her posture, she would find herself smiling much more than she had before. She felt a sudden burst of joy that she found hard to describe, but she would simply do her best to not make it painfully obvious to him, and she wouldn’t allow it to break her focus on the game ahead. His dojo was in Tokyo Bay, another area she hadn’t had as much time to explore. That would make another fantastic outing—a bit of practice and some sites that he could show her. Chameli would nod her head happily at his invitation.
“I’ll definitely take you up on that!”
She would exclaim. Before the duo would begin to play, during the game, Chameli didn’t hold back, using all of her skills to win by a considerable margin. It wasn’t till then that she realized she would need to come up with a good story to cover her skills; perhaps she would say she played softball and loved trigonometry as a child. Shō accepted his loss graciously; this and her feelings for him were good enough reasons for her not to gloat. She would simply grin at him as the machine depended on their tickets, collecting her portion.
“It’s always been one of my favorite games.”
She would respond before looking back in hopes of finding their next game. She wanted something fun that they would both be good at. Chameli would take almost a small pause while scanning before a thought of inspiration struck. People who practiced swordsmanship were often well trained and skilled, and given her own antics and personal time in the arcade, she was too.
“I have the perfect game for us next!”
Taking a hold of him again, an act that was becoming more and more comfortable by the minute she would walk over to a game station that was fairly populated, and if just by a stroke of luck, two stations next to each other were vacated, leaving them both to take the spots. The game in question would be Dance Revolution. The flashing lights and sound of music were enough to excite her as she gestured towards the machine.
“Let’s dance! I’ll even let you pick the song.”

Shō would match Chameli’s enthusiasm, which she would take as a sign of him truly enjoying himself, and his welcoming of her challenge was more than noted. She had still planned to hold back a bit so as not to raise any questions at the game, but she figured she could easily explain it away as simply being overly familiar with it. His dedication to his training became obvious as he would give her his typical training schedule, which was almost identical to her own training schedule minus the day of practice sparing. Her mind would continue to work in a natural way for her to bring up the idea of her sitting in on and potentially joining in for one or more sessions. Admittedly, it may have been a way for her to simply grow closer to him while also finding a way to supplement her own combat style. As she held onto his sleeve, she would use her other hand to crudely gesture as if she held a sword.
“You think you could train me? Or maybe I can just watch you?”
She would ask with a curious smile in the hopes that he would say yes. The gesture of her hand would eventually begin to mimic a bo staff as it was a weapon of choice, a small but telling detail that Shō, a skilled fighter, would have been able to pick up on, but it would be up to him to decide what to do with the information.
As they finally reached the station, Shō seemed to have something on his mind; his attention seemed to split, as Chameli would notice. To do this, she would have to simply do something to pull his focus back to the moment; after all, this was a date, and she needed to do her best to hold his attention.
“Alright, go!”
She would shout as she would begin to quickly roll the skeeballs up the targets; the first few would land in the center target, landing her the maximum amount of points, and her pace was steady. But eventually she would begin to take two skeeballs at a time, her eyes shifting as she tracked the trajectory of the balls as she continued to roll them forward, even forcing a few to ricochet off one another, landing in the other maximum point slots, which were above the main circle. She would continue this until her timer finally ran out, turning to Shō with a satisfied grin.
"I told you I wouldn’t go easy.”

Chameli had picked the game more catered to his skill set as a way to ease him, but it seemed he wanted to experience all that the arcade had to offer, which she would oblige, mentally picking the next game she would take him to, but first the game at hand.
"Well, then I was on purpose, but now I won’t go easy on you!”
She responded eagerly. Chameli would seem to almost perk up to the rest of his answer, as it would be a new fact about him that she had learned and didn’t necessarily expect of him. A drumming swordsman seemed like such an odd concept, but the precise and shifting movements would quickly align and make sense to her. This would be enough to make her think about her own masked activities, and she wondered if he was skilled with perhaps more than just the sword, but this led to other thoughts.
“I wouldn’t have guessed you practice swordsmanship. How often do you teach?”
Her life was never as simple as it seemed from the moment her quirk arose, but she tried her best to keep those two halves of her costumed life and her personal life separate, but this now begged the question: What would happen if she was to become romantically involved with Shō? Even if this was only the first date, if it continued, she would have to tell him, and the thoughts on how he would react would be enough to send her into a bit of a spiral, only being pulled free as Shō grabbed the spoke up again, agreeing to skee-ball as he grabbed the tickets from the wack-a-mole game. She would nod as she grabbed onto the sleeve of his shirt, pulling him a long way to the skee-ball game, only letting go so they could both face their stations at the game.
“Yeah, those tickets are how we’re going to get all those awesome prizes! And there’s going to be a lot more tickets with me at this game.”
She would exclaim happily as she inserted a few tokens into the machine, looking over to him with her warm smile still on. They had just begun, but it was more than clear that Chameli was enjoying herself, enough so that almost all of her troubles had fallen away from her mind. Grabbing one of the balls from the game’s station, her hand would hover over the start button.
“Ready?”

In response to his question, Chameli would give him a warm smile. She thought it would be an easier way for him to become comfortable with the game by letting him start with something familiar, and what better way for a drummer to get comfortable than by playing wack-a-mole?
“Depends on if it was a good choice or not.”
She would respond with a laugh as she turned her attention back to the machine. Grabbing onto the mallet firmly, she would reach out with her other hand to hit the start, but before beginning to swing a mole, they popped up. His speed and precision would rival her own, and it was curious enough for her to look away from her own side for enough time to cause her to miss a few before she realized that her absence-mindedness was costing the duo tickets. She would also begin to swing away, striking as many miles as she could see. Her hits were all well placed, a few of them being swung even before the moles had fully risen from their holes, as even in their random moments, Chameli somehow found a way to track their pattern. After about a minute or so, the wack-a-mole sign would begin to flutter with lights as the moles returned to their holes, waiting for another press of the start button as the machine would begin to tally up their score before dispensing tickets. Letting out a bit of an excited squeal at the sight of the tickets, she would grab onto them before turning her attention back to him.
"Wow, you're really fast and accurate; byproducts from playing the drums?"
Chameli would comment and ask as she looked over to the neighboring game, which was Skee-Ball. This game would be much more tailored to her own skillset. She would point and gesture over to it for the next game to try.
"How about this one next?"

“T-Thank you!”
The combination of both Shō’s smile and compliment was easily enough to leave Chameli feeling a bit flustered, as she would quickly turn her attention back to the arcade floor in hopes of finding somewhere to start. It had been years since she had been inside an arcade, but she would start with something that led more into her strengths, such as a carnival game. Slowly making her way onto the floor with Shō in tow, she walked until she found a small section that seemed much more retro than the rest of the games, although it had been outfitted with a litany of flashing lights, all designed to draw the attention of arcade goers. She wouldn’t go right for her favorite carnival game and instead opt for something much more intro-leveled, Whac-a-mole. It was a simple game that was more of a test of speed and hand-eye coordination than anything else. Looking back at Shō, her smile would still be apparent as she pointed to the game.
“How about we start here?”
It was a simple game, but something that would also reward tickets, and if the duo were lucky, maybe they would be able to get enough at the end of their night to get an amazing prize. The thought of a prize was enough to cause Chameli to boil over with excitement, but she would try her best to contain herself from an outburst. Rushing over, she would grab one of the mallets and gesture eagerly for Shō to take the other station next to her, as she was ready to get started.

"It was a gift my aunt sent me from back in India. I really like your shirt too."
Chameli would respond with a smile as Sho would usher her inside as he held the door open. Stepping into the arcade, she would take a moment to look around the area. She had figured that the arcade would be much larger than it appeared, but even still, the size was enough to have her almost dismayed for a moment before turning her attention to Sho. This was his first time in the arcade, so it was up to her to help him get acclimated. Growing up, she had spent a bit of time in arcades, but she wasn't exactly an expert, and as she grew older, she seemed to spend less and less time here. Even knowing this, she would do her best to try to pass on whatever bit of knowledge she had on the subject.
"I'll answer all the questions I can!"
She would giggle before responding. The building was filled with all styles of games, from the traditional arcade coin-operated games to simple carnival-style games that would offer tickets for the player's skill. With this many options, she found herself a bit at odds about where to start, so she would turn to Sho, allowing him to pick where the duo would begin.
"Anything jumping out at you?"

Post by Chameli Sharma on Sept 28, 2023 8:49:07 GMT
Another work week has gone by, and Chameli has once again piled on as many days as she could, picking up extra shifts and helping out extra to earn herself a few favors, one of which was to cover a shift for today. Between busy times during the week in the shop, she spent mentally piecing together an outfit—something nice but not over the top—for their first outing. She had made about three or four possible choices before she finally settled on the one she liked the most, with some input from coworkers and, of course, her mother. Heroics for today were far from her mind; after all, Japan had its fair share of professional heroes, so one night off shouldn’t have been too much to ask. The destination of their date was an arcade in Shibuya. In a panicked response to an unexpected question, she said she wasn’t the greatest at arcade games but figured it would be a good way for the both of them to have genuine fun. Chameli was admittedly a bit nervous, but as she got ready, a small pep talk with her mother over the phone and the faint sounds of clanging pots and pans seemed to ease her nerves, if only a little. On her way to the arcade, Chameli could be seen constantly fiddling with her clothing, partially a response to nervousness. The streets of Shibuya were crowded; nothing was different on any other day. She took her time, wading through the people both on the subway carts and through the streets of the city who were also on their own journeys, be that to work, home, or elsewhere. The building was simple to navigate, littered with glowing neon signs, and at the front doors would stand Shō. Chameli would smile as she approached him, giving him a slight wave. “Hiya! Ready to go in?” |

With her own foes now dispatched, Chameli was able to focus her attention on a larger target: the boss of the thugs. With her little comment and her companion’s response, it became quite apparent to him that out of his group, he was the only one left standing, and with the tables turned, the odds weren’t in his favor, not that they ever were. Even with the odds, the lack of attention to him as a combatant also seemed to stir up his anger, as in what she could only assume was an act of desperation and anger he would charge towards them.
Chameli would let out a small sigh, unimpressed, as she jerked forward, ready to create a large bubble and send him right back in the direction he charged from, only to see her shadow-clad companion take a low stance and grab onto the hilt of his katana. With a quick and precise movement, he would strike a counter blow, hard enough to not only stop the brute’s charge forward but force him into a nearby building. His strength was very impressive and enough for her to realize that if he hadn’t struck with the blunt side of his blade, he would likely have cut clean through him, which Chameli would see as an act of mercy.
With the fight officially coming to a close, the duo would have a bit of time to relax, at least until the police finally arrived, which by that time Chameli had planned on being long since gone from the area. It would seem that both she and her companion held the same sentiment as he spoke on the subject. She would nod in agreement, getting ready to speak, only to have him take off running, leaving her with a blank stare hidden by the cast shadow of her makeshift cloak.
She would stare blankly for only a moment before deciding to follow suit, running off in the direction of the nearest train station, taking time to slip between buildings to discard pieces of her makeshift suit until it was completely gone. The station wasn’t exactly close, but with speed, it would feel like a short run. Chameli would just manage to slip between the doors of a closing train cart to get aboard. She let out a sigh of relief as she quickly found herself somewhere to sit.
Chameli would reach for her earbuds and cellphone to listen to a bit of music on the ride home, only to be met with a text message from Shō. Her eyes would seem to light up as she read through it. With the time she had taken on her detour, she would have been much closer to home. After a small hum of thought, she would respond.
‘Hiya! I’m on the train; the first few were really crowded, so I waited a bit. There is a new karaoke and arcade that opened up in Shibuya. Let’s say five o’clock this Saturday?’
Chameli would hold back a bit of a star-struck squeal as she saved his number, putting in her earbuds with a smile and enjoying her music on her quiet journey home.

In her moment of distraction, the blade-armed thug would lunge forward, only to have his strike blocked by her shadow-clad companion. This was Chameli’s first time working with another vigilante in combat, and it was working quite well. But just as he would continue to engage his new combatants, she would have to do the same. With the smoke still impeding their vision, she would prepare for her assault. Unlike the other combatants, these two were unarmed, relatively speaking, and although she didn’t have a weapon of her own, she would feel much more comfortable with close-range combat.
As the dust would begin to settle and she could make out the silhouettes of the thugs, she would prepare herself to dart forward, only to be met by a surprise, cutting through the smoke like a net of flames. Acting quickly, she would create and throw another bead-sized bubble at the center of the net. Taking a runner's stance, she would quickly run forward, creating an additional two bubbles and popping them, using the force to aid her movement. And as the bead she had thrown would contract with a net of fire, it would pop, the force easily enough to dispel the flames and leave the perfect opening for Chameli to strike.
Using her momentum and speed from the bubbles she had popped, she would deliver a kick to the sternum, the strike hard enough to send the thugs flying as she would quickly turn, lunging towards the explosive thug, who in the ensuing shuffle had managed to pick up and charge a bit of gravel. Seeing the telltale glow of gravel in his hand, she would act quickly, creating another bubble, but this one was incredibly small, and as he would attempt to throw the gravel into her face, she would throw her bubble just below his elbow. The sudden force from the bubble popping would be enough to force his arm completely up, causing the direction of the gravel to change and throwing it up into the air.
While the thug looked up, she would quickly deliver an overhead axe kick to the head, forcing him down to the ground. There would initially be a faint sign of him struggling to get back up, but it would come to an end quickly with little to no effort, simply her leaning in a bit more. It was clear that he hadn't expected such a strike from her, and with the element of surprise and speed, she was quickly able to dispatch them. Once she was certain he wouldn't get back up, she would turn her attention to her companion and the boss of the thugs.
"You should have gotten the more expensive henchmen; these ones didn't last too long."

Hidden by the length of her makeshift cloak, Chameli would change her stance to something a bit more defensive as she split her attention between both the muscle-bound and bladed thug. She found herself much more weary of blades than the muscle; after all, physique wasn’t the most important factor when it came to the fight, and he was almost certain with her technique and speed that she could easily counter him. But the blades posed a bit more of a looming threat as she couldn’t tell much of anything else about him, and being unarmed left her a bit more vulnerable than she would have liked.
But Chameli would be so focused on her own bout that she wouldn’t notice her shadow-clad partner observing her fight. The shouting wouldn’t be enough to pull her attention away, but the gunshots would, as her attention would flick over just in time to see the bullets wiz through their intended target, leaving him unaffected—an impressive move. In that moment, the blade-hand thug would lunge forward, swinging both hands downward. She would just barely manage to jump to the side and dodge the strike, attempting to throw a kick at his head only for him to jump away with a grin, landing near the muscle-bound thug.
Her eyes would narrow as the sight of his grin quickly became irritating. Her stance, still hidden, would change again; she had proved she could dodge his strikes, so now she would begin a relentless onslaught of attacks, or at least that was her plan. The shadow-clad vigilante would speak again, offering to swap opponents. Normally, Chameli would take care of the opponents on her own, but with her partner, she could see he was better equipped with his blade to handle the situation. Taking a small pause, she would nod.
"A change in partners sounds good."
She’d remark that her hand would once again emerge from her cloak, throwing the last three bubbles she had created earlier at her new opponents, the fire net maker and the explosive thug. The objective wasn’t to hit them, but to separate the two to make them easier to deal with, as as such, one bubble would land in front of each of them, the force enough to send a bit of rubble up into the air and block their slight, if just a bit. And the last bubble would float between the duo, popping as it made contact with the debris, pushing them apart.

With his face shrouded in darkness, the man would turn to face her, giving her a slight nod. This would be enough for her to understand, as she would return his nod before focusing her attention on the group. And as predicted, the group wouldn’t be interested in stopping their antics and would instead move towards the duo as the group stepped forward. He was much larger than the others and spoke as if he were the leader of this group of criminals, which was fine with her; she hadn’t intended on letting any of them walk away with a beating, and it was always so much easier when they wouldn’t run. Her eyes, although hidden by the shadow cast from her makeshift hood, were focused on their leader, who spoke rather arrogantly, but most criminals were. They were so confident that they would even chuckle at the duo's interjection.
The group would begin to demonstrate their quirks almost as a show of force, but she wouldn’t waver. And with a simple command from their leader, the group would break up into two teams of three, which Chameli couldn’t help but find interesting. But she’d have time to review the details later; this was a time for action. The three that approached her were rather interesting, but she only found one out of the group that she would be particularly worried about in close quarters: the large man who seemed to double in size.
"You were warned."
Her hands would quickly emerge from under the makeshift cloak, throwing two of her marble-sized bubbles towards the larger thug with upward swings, and then with a following vertical swing, she would throw the third remaining bubble in her hand towards the one who could spray water from his mouth. For the larger target, she would aim for his sternum and forehead, and for the liquid sprayer, she would aim for between the eyes.
The larger of the group acted quickly, making an ‘x-shaped guard across his chest and leaning into it to guard against the bubble. As the marble-sized bubbles made impact, the force of the burst would be enough to force him backwards, but as he was braced for the strike, it wouldn’t move him much. The water sprayer, however, wasn’t as quick. With the bubble burst at its intended location, the force was enough to launch him backwards, off of his feet, then to the ground below, as he would quickly reel from the blow, using his hands to cover his face. The blade-armed thug would grin as he began to push forward. "Nifty trick, but that won’t work on the rest of us!"

= The sounds hidden beneath the explosion of fireworks would continue to change as the sound of shattering glass was added. The tempo of the sounds was quickly building up an anxious sense of dread, but she had to deal with the matter at hand first, separating herself from Shō. It would seem that he would also have the same idea, as a quick glance at his phone would be enough for him to change his mind. Instead of offering to walk her home, he offered to check in on her. Shō would offer her his cellphone for her to add her number to his contacts, which she would quickly do; had she not been in her current situation, she would have found herself overly excited that he would even offer, but her mind was focused on the sounds. She would return the smile, hers just as fake as his own, waving as they parted ways.
"That’s alright. Sure! Maybe you can sit in next time and we can make up for you not walking me home."
Her response would be ended by a cheerful laugh, also fake, but she couldn’t let on that anything was out of the ordinary. Chameli’s walk was deliberately slow, as she would occasionally glance over her shoulder, waiting until Shō had made his way just out of sight before quickly running off to the festival grounds, quickly tearing the tent fabrics—a small portion to cover her lower face and another to wrap around herself as a cloak.
"Of course. I just had to pick a suit with a jacket. How am I supposed to carry that thing around?"
She muttered to herself as she tied a tight knot to hold her makeshift cloak in place before tying the extra bit of fabric around the lower half of her face. She would pull up a bit of extra fabric from her makeshift cloak to act as a hood to cover her hair and cast a shadow over her eyes in hopes that no one would notice them. With her identity now fully covered, she would wait to hear the sound one last time before she would make her way towards it. The further she got from the fireworks, the easier it became to follow the sounds, which she did until she reached their source, a jewelry store.
Upon her arrival, she would be met by seven men who had broken into the store and another who held a sword. Chameli wasn’t exactly sure of what she had stumbled into, but hearing him speak, she was certain that he wasn’t working with them. In anticipation, she would create a total of six marble-sized bubbles, holding them in the valleys between her fingers. She doubted the group would stop, so she would prepare to provide them with a more persuasive reason for them to stop.

She would respond, giving a valid reason as to why they had never crossed paths, which checked out. As he never sat down to eat, it was highly possible that she would either just miss him at the start of her shift or even already be busy helping cook in the back, in which case she would be far too busy to notice much of anything going on outside of her station. But she wasn’t too surprised that her mother never noticed who he was, as most of her time was spent running the restaurant with either simple dinner music or Hindi tunes playing faintly in the background. And although Chameli had a great love for her culture, she often tended to listen to music from other sources. With the mystery now solved, they would fall into silence as they watched the fireworks continue.
The colors would eventually begin to vary in a multitude of ways, quickly becoming far too much to keep track of. With the sun fully gone, it would be up to the sparks to light the sky, and they did so fairly well. But within the loud, bursting sound of the fireworks hid something much more sinister. It almost went unnoticed as she found herself much to entertain and far too happy to even think that something like that could happen, especially with the heroes who were so close by possibly still lingering.
But with another loud boom of the fireworks, she could hear the sound—the sound of gunfire—and once she had honed in on the sound, it quickly became all she could hear. Her look of amazement was quickly overtaken by a blank stare as she tried to figure out a way to slip away from Sho, if only for a few moments, to deal with the crisis at hand, but it would only bring up more issues, namely her attire. Chameli’s close friends weren’t exactly screaming inconspicuously, which meant she would need to keep herself at a distance. Or find some way to cover herself.
Her eyes scanned the leftover tents from the festival and the free fabric. It wasn’t much, but it would help her cover herself and conceal her identity in a pinch. This only left the matter of slipping away, but the longer she thought, the higher the potential for casualties would be. She opened her mouth with the intention of saying something, anything to slip away, only to have Sho speak first, offering to walk her home after making a quick detour. Chameli couldn’t help but smile, not only at his kind gesture but also at how perfect the opportunity was. She would nod.
"That would be great. I’ll meet you near the stage."
She would respond. She had no idea how long clean-up would take, but moving their meeting point would give her enough leeway to say she had simply taken a detour of her own on the way or claim she was following a cute animal.

During his silence, Chameli would lean in in anticipation of his response. Although he might believe it would be much, she would try her best to commit his answer to her memory in the hopes that one day she’ll be able to visit it for herself, which it would seem that Sh had managed to decipher as with his response he would also recommend that she go herself. A snow festival with ice sculptures: although she had been there for some time, a lot of things were still foreign to her, such as this festival.
But as fate would have it, Shō’s question would uncover something the two shared in common: he was a patron of her mother’s restaurant. It was strange that they hadn’t met before, but because of her erratic shift time, it was highly likely that she just wouldn’t see certain people often. In response to their latest revelation, Chameli would smile and nod, as she would think maybe they were simply destined to meet her now.
"She has so many regular customers I never get to see. But I’m glad you enjoy our food!"
Chameli wasn’t surprised to hear her mother mention her; she was overbearing at times, but she was also a proud mother. This would bring yet another reason for their conversation to continue; he clearly knew her mother well enough for them to be on a first-name basis. How long had he been a patron? What was his favorite item on the menu? All the questions she would want to ask would be forgotten with the crackling sound of the first firework. Her eyes would seem to light up as she watched the explosions of purple and green, her focus and amazement so great that she hardly had time to register Shō’s question.
"Not that I can think of now. The fireworks are so beautiful!"

As Sh responded, Chameli seemed to stare in wonder. Although Japan was now her home, she hadn’t had as much time to explore as she would have liked. Life came at Chameli much too fast for her to have enough time to do so, but as of late she was beginning to find a balance, and her being at this festival was proof that it was working, at least somewhat. He said that unfortunately, she found no issue with it; reading sheet music was a skill that not everyone had, and she had always been told that that was the hardest part of learning any instrument. He learned to play while traveling, so not only were his musical talents extensive, but he would also know quite a bit about Japan as a whole.
"That's not unfortunate. You’re an amazing drummer! Do you have a favorite place to visit in Japan?"
As the sun continued to lower, its light could only be made out through the gaps of the buildings, beautifully illuminating the skyline, but it would only last for a few minutes before the light would vanish, giving way to night. Chameli couldn’t help but giggle at Sh’s joke, as even before he signed his name on her shirt, she had already known his name; after all, what kind of fan would she be if she didn’t? She would nod her head in agreement at the exchange of their pleasantries. Before she noticed the crowd slowly dwindling, it seemed that the musical portion of the festival was over, and some were taken with the idea of finding other places to let the music continue.
Chameli would be somewhat surprised to hear Sh turn down the offer of the after party initially until she realized he was the only ban member who wasn’t mingling with the crowd; perhaps he simply wanted a bit of quiet and to just enjoy the scenery. With the fireworks starting soon, she found herself getting a bit nostalgic, as she remembers watching fireworks with her parents when she was younger. But she would be shocked out of her nostalgic memories by a question. She wanted to know something about her, which was only fair, so with a smile, she would answer.
"I work at my mother’s restaurant, Sugoi Khadya, in Hakodate."
She would quickly shake her head, as she had in fact come to the concert alone, despite her mother’s wishes. But her mother had been quite overprotective since the passing of her father, and as a compromise, she had taken a small container of pepper spray, although it was most certainly left at home.
"Nope, I actually came alone. I had a few friends who wanted to go today but couldn’t make it."
