Despite being "bad news", it was undeniable that Callisto's sense of fashion and combined cleanliness was something that set themselves apart from the average "thug" that the general public of Japan seemed to have in mind.No little bits of tattoos sticking out from the ends of their sleeves, stereotypical gangster haircuts, or sunglasses that made it difficult to determine their identity. They didn't smell bad either, because often these kinds of people smelled of either tobacco or alcohol.Callisto was oddly "clean" so to speak, perhaps more so than Shion, who cleaned themselves regularly yet neglected to really do much with their hair other than keep it trimmed. His individual hairs were probably a tad coarse in comparison to that of the taller man.Punk. Shion never really understood the meaning of the word, as he had heard it used in both a negative and neutral way throughout his life when exposed to the conversations of others or mass-media. If someone had told him of the subculture's innate connection to rebellion and the anti-establishment, he would have understood. Yet no one had so far.But if the meaning of "Punk" was to set yourself apart from others and go against the grain, Shion could have barely missed the mark on making it in. Despite very clearly defying established expectation of his gender, often confusing others to which he really was, his curious mindset was undermined by his support and acceptance of the current established societal norms- that being the reverence of heroes. Shion was very much part of said system, training to become a hero or a first responder of some kind in the future. But back in the physical world, he wasn't exactly impressed with how Callisto kept refusing to answer. Something which only made Shion more suspicious. But at least he was appreciating the divine gift to earth known as Toto."Well, he doesn't have a mouth, so I don't think they can- and he's not a thing it's Toto."Shion said resolutely towards Callisto's absolutely unforgivable objectification of his friend, though his mood soon switched back to his friendly self since the man expressed interest in laying hands onto the alien- something none of his fellow students had the courage to do so far."Y'see, just let him curl up onto you and gently ruffle his hairs like you would with a cat! It's that easy, wanna hold him?"He held out the motionless staring creature towards Callisto with a smile, hoping he'd feel the therapeutic effect the starfish alien would give off when holding them for long amounts of time.

[Now Playing: Iron Horse, Iron Terror]Shion was still, nowhere to be seen. However, Jun didn't have the leisure to worry about that. Within seconds of her "acceptance" to "play" being interpreted as a positive over negative, Toto lifted themselves off the ground vertically until they reached eye-level to Jun. It then lunged at her without warning, or more accurately launched itself like a dart would towards a wooden surface. Air would glide off their organic surface like wind would off the wing of a Boeing 999Z, the always-open eyes now no longer pointing at Jun. Toto's speed was fast, but not to the point that it was blinding. Between a bullet and an unwilling Sunday morning at church, the speed at which they approached Jun's gut was comparable to that of a thrown javelin. Amateur level, not Olympian. But was Jun prepared enough to avoid this? |

Toto did not possess a mouth. Not that they would speak if they had one, nor would Jun understand them even if they chose to do so.Alien eyes would continue to stare at her, keeping the young aspiring hero in the middle of their field of vision. No answer would be provided to where Shion was- perhaps even Toto didn't know. Then, there'd be movement. A slow, but definitely noticeable to the human eye. The organic "bristles" on their lower body which they stood on, resembling the spikes of a sea urchin, began scratching at the ground, slowly allowing the creature to glide forward. This was a rare sight. Shion always carried them, so to see them "walk" was like seeing a beached starfish return to the waves. But after a few seconds, it stopped. Their long body bent sideways, so the "handle" portion of their body resembled the handle of a walking stick used by old people.Tap, taptaptap-Toto began tapping on the ground, an attempt to communicate in morse code. Knowledge of this most basic, and archaic code was sometimes a requirement in preparation schools for heroes.
"L - E - T - S P - L - A - Y."
The message was clear, the creature wanted a match with Jun. junsuina |

Wherever the Jun had been in the P.E. grounds, she obviously wasn't alone. There were countless students in the biggest pro-hero college of Tokyo with her after all. However, the person, or rather creature who had been observing Jun from several yards away behind her wasn't exactly the average student she would expect. Resembling a broom, Tobarigami, or "Toto" for short possessed a long, stalk-like body with a tuft of organic looking bristles at the lower half of their body. This tuft also contained a series of eyes- All of which were fixed upon Jun. They must have snuck up on her to reach their current spot when she wasn't looking. Now, there was nothing odd about the alien being in of itself- as Jun had probably met them already in the aforementioned disaster of a yacht party. What made things strange, was that Toto appeared to be completely on their own. Shion, their "bearer" or "handler" was nowhere to be in sight. Where was he? Why was Toto alone? And what did they want with Jun? junsuina |

Up until now, Shion had only seen this older individual from behind. His hairstyle, specifically the two buns made him guess if this person was a man or a woman, but this was soon made clear when he remembered how large the person's torso appeared to be in comparison to the length of their legs. The two may have shared something in elements of ambiguity regarding their appearance, but said element seemed to be a lot more subtle with this man as opposed to themselves. When Callisto turned around, Shion definitely questioned his decision to initiate speaking with this person. Despite being dressed like anyone else on the street, the look in the man's eyes exactly matched the description of "trouble" that his parents had told to him as a child. ["Don't talk to these people. They'll get you hooked onto drugs or take you someplace far away."]Shion clearly remembered his mother telling him as they passed by a group of "good-for-nothings" at the mall. He was only around 6 at that time. He would have asked "What's drugs?" if he hadn't been distracted by a pack of Hi-Chew next to the cash register.Snapping back to the present, Shion was immediately aware of the sense of apprehension that surrounded them both. But it wasn't his fault right? All he gave was a friendly greeting! Either way, he couldn't really back out of this just because of the way this man looked! He was an adult! He could take care of himself if anything happened!"Nuh-uh! All I did was say hi!"He said, looking back at Callisto's cyan irises with his own magenta-colored eyes. Yes, he did mention the whole being alone thing on a holiday, but he couldn't really find anything else to say. A short "Hi." would just have been lackluster. But as fast as Shion arrived, the subject appeared to change inexplicably. Callisto was now motioning towards Toto in his arms, asking about what breed of animal they were, if they could even be considered an animal."Oh this? It's Toto! They're the friend that came with my quirk! I. . . don't know what they are, but they're a friend! I know that!"He replied while looking down at his alien companion with fondness, as Shion always does when Toto becomes the topic of conversation. Despite never giving off any sense of emotion, will, or natural movement- just like how they were right now, the bond Shion felt with them could be described as completely natural."Yup! Well- I'd say Toto carries me more often than I do for them. I fly pretty much everywhere."It didn't cost Shion anything other than a broom to keep Toto around, so the choice for him was quite easy since the alien creature, staring dead towards Callisto with its multiple eyes, seemed to bring him comfort when they were carried around like this."Though. . . you didn't answer me. Why are you all alone when nobody else here is?"Shion asked him again, still wanting to know. The line of visitors waiting to pray at the front of the shrine's Haiden continued to move past them, like a slow-moving train. Time itself felt slow in this current situation. In fact, no one seemed to notice the odd conversation the two were having. It was as if they were in their own surreal bubble.

Shion simply sat there, listening to Sadako's reasoning combined with data to prove that there really wasn't anything out of the ordinary going on here. Despite feeling alone, Shion really wasn't quite alone in how he felt. He was a "young person" after all, and there were many universal experiences shared among "young people". This was one of them, especially since he was in an environment filled with people who were similar to him. Did a person's quirk even factor into this situation? In a quirkless world from over 50 years ago, people attending college for more "mundane" goals and degrees could feel the same kind of impostor syndrome. Though in this period of time, quirks themselves felt mundane to Shion. Being an impressionable person was a double-edged sword. Others could manipulate you with the right words, but could instantly make you feel better with some other ones. And Sadako sure knew how to do her job- Shion was smiling, reassured. He sat up, stretching a little even though at most he had been lethargic for about two minutes. "You're right- I guess it was nothing to worry about in the end! If everyone's felt like this for a while, that means things like this haven't changed since the past century, hehe!"Later? What would they do now then? Shion would watch with interest as Sadako went to scribble on the nearby whiteboard. Oh no, was it math? Did they hide some kind of competency test in every student's first counseling session? Oh, it was just two words. Yeah, Shion could read. Home?"Uhh. . . "
He seemed to struggle a little bit, having trouble deciding on whether Sadako meant Ms. Li's attic room or home home. After a few seconds of thought, the answer became obvious. It was up to Shion to choose where he felt more at home. More comfortable. ". . . there's a pretty much no people besides me and this other person, and their cat. Everything's brown and wood-ish, not like here. This place has a lot more. . . whites. And it's mostly made of rock as well."No better place to start than by describing what he quite literally saw every day there, he thought. "And then there's this weird thing. I heard all these noises outside when I lived there, but I didn't ever feel bothered. But when it gets quiet in a place like this. . . I don't know how to feel." Sadako Gotoh |

"Oh, hey guys!"Shion waved to both his roommates. . . and friends, as they boarded the ship. Their initial meeting was definitely something unexpected, and out of the usual- but despite being something unintended, he was happy all the same that they met in the end. Call it a happy accident. However, what happened next was not a happy accident. In fact, it seemed quite intentional. Simply put, the giant had gone full frat-boy despite physical resemblance to a saint that lived over two millennia ago. Zenkai had picked up Kupo, before throwing him like that one vine of a little girl throwing her Barbie at the wall while screaming about where her money was. Except, there was no wall. Just the void known as the ocean separated from the entire ship by a space of nothing. Unfortunately, Shion just happened to have his back turned when the act happened. Only turning around when everyone began screaming about what happened. He looked to where Kupo had been with an oblivious expression, only to notice- Oh no.
He's not there.Ungracefully exiting the conversation he had barely been a part of, Shion found himself leaning over the handrails of the deck to see if what he thought was happening was going on. Surely, no one would be crazy enough to- "Wha- Jack?!" Shion said in confusion as the shorter dragon-boy barreled past him in an amazing show of force and ability. Remarkably, the his roommate who had now turned into a distant purple glow seemed to settle on the surface of the water for a moment, only to suddenly shoot back with an equal amount of force. Helpless to the point that he could only observe, Shion had to duck out of the way to avoid being hit by the two on their way back. There was another crash. Without even waiting for the dust to settle, he dashed forward to make sure the two were okay. "A-Are you guys okay? That was unbeliev- oh, hypothermia!"Ducking down, Shion pulled out a towel before commencing the "drying" of Kupo. Not realizing he had never even touched the water to begin with. But he tried to not forget about Jack either, the landing he made just now was double worse than the one Shion had made upon entering this whole party. "Jack, are you hurt? You landed right on-"Huh?
11?Shion stopped smothering Kupo with the flannel for a second upon noticing something was on the inner side of his hand. Why would a number suddenly show up on his body? It was only until Sumi's announcement properly began, that he began understanding. Both Jack and Kupo piped up about what numbers they had gotten, only for Shion to become excited, noticing that it matched with his. "Hey, that's my number! Guess we're going to be together here too! Hehe!"He exclaimed, holding up his palm with the towel in the other hand. Quite happy that in an event like this, he was paired with the few people he knew already in Tokyo. The red sun rose in the eastern horizon as thin clouds flanked it, completely beholden to the everlasting symbol of this country. Showa Day, or specifically the birthday of Emperor Hirohito. Of course, this man had passed more than a century ago, but the myriad of events during his rule had left such a profound impact on the land that it was still celebrated to this day. The Showa era, lasting from the Interwar Period to 1989, had left such a profound impact on modern Japan's identity. The effects which could still be seen in the current year. One of the places important to this period was exactly the shrine Callisto was visiting. Cold air whistling through his ears, Shion freely rode the wind of Tokyo to get a good look at the sunrise on his day off. Having purposefully gotten up early, he had left on his own (together with Toto) to visit some key locations with what time he had. Yasukuni Shrine wasn't specifically on that list, but a random drop-off point for him to take a break at. Or, he would have sat down to keep on planning with a touristy leaflet of Chiyoda district. The ward Shion happened to be in was the same as that of the Emperor's residence- though it was unknown to him if they still lived there. Shion lowered altitude; a slight distortion similar to what you'd see behind a jet turbine before it takes off appearing underneath them before a pair of shoes lightly touched down onto the stone floor. Now to find a bench- ooh, there's a line of people waiting to give their respects- and there's someone off to the side? Whether he knew it or not, Callisto stuck out like a sore thumb. Especially considering his unique appearance, he was the only person standing at the side which Shion was on, seemingly deep in thought as he didn't move an inch while staring at the Haiden before him. Change of plans, Shion's curiosity demanded answers. Toto, the alien creature he was riding on twisted itself into a comfortable knot to be carried around in human arms. Shion approached the older man few feet away from his landing point with a light step, calling out to him. But not really "calling", moreso a normal volume of voice. "Hey! All alone at 6:30 on Showa Day?"If he turned around, the man with hair-buns would have seen a. . . person around 4 inches shorter than him holding some kind of creature in their arms, smiling innocently in their combo of a Japanese garb and an apron. Making direct eye contact. Of course, he didn't know anything. Not of Callisto's profession, nor why Yasukuni Shrine was all that important. Callisto Tengoku |

~ Twas 4 in the morning in the dormitory of U.A., and not a soul was stirring due to the carbon monoxide leak. ~Just kidding, everyone was asleep. Tap, tap, tap-That was, except for one person. Having woken especially early to move into his new home, Shion's footsteps were the only sound in the halls besides the non-stop humming of the electric lights which spotted the ceiling every few meters. As a former delivery boy for Ms. Li's pastry shop, he was used to waking up at around 5 in the morning so he could help the middle-aged woman set up shop for the day. An hours' worth of difference didn't affect him much. Then he remembered, this wasn't the place he used to be anymore. The old, yet comfy attic wasn't going to be his home to go back to after a long day's work anymore. The thought of it made him sad, but he quickly buried it with thoughts of what he'd experience from now onwards. ["I'm going to feel a little lonely for the first few weeks, but other people will surely come in to live with me by then!"]For some reason, probably because he didn't read the housing notice very well, Shion assumed that he was going to be alone for a while. But it wasn't all bad, he thought. There'd be more space for him to stretch around in, and a little privacy never hurt either. ["Well, no use waiting around. I'd better get used to it as fast as I can."]Reaching into his pocket, Shion took out the key to the room in front of him. Courtesy of the staff member responsible for approving his application. It was stuck smoothly into the keyhole, turned around a bit in both directions before there was a noticeable click.
Slowly, the doorknob on the inside would turn before the door began opening with a creeeeeeeak. If allowed, Shion would simply pull his large duffel bag in with him as he entered the room for the first time- not seeing the two inhabitants within due to only being at the doorway, but at the same time noticing that the room suspiciously smelled of human beings. "Huh, weird smell- maybe they just moved out?" He quietly said out loud, thinking he was alone. Jack Orion Kupo |

Shion felt indescribable joy at Sadako acknowledging Toto's existence. In a way, it felt like a part of himself instead of another being entirely was being given attention and recognition. But Toto was a friend, of course. He merely felt happy for them. "Yep! All I need is a broom, and it just changes into Toto!" Shion pulled Toto back, looking down at him fondly while he continued to rest there, motionless. Staring into space. Apparently, their silence was interpreted as politeness. How quaint! The tea being set in front of the two definitely helped create the atmosphere which was favorable for a drawn-out conversation. You couldn't resolve personal issues without a little talking, after all. Black tea, no cream or sugar. It's flavor as-is, something that Shion considered to be more "natural" was his favorite. Kind of like how he tried to experience the world so far: as is. "Right, that's what I wanted to talk about."Shion took a deep breath before leaning back in their chair, taking a more relaxed position and calmer demeanor. One that was probably more appropriate for a session like this. "I'm happy to be here, I really am. But there's so much new things. A new room, new activities, new friends. . . it feels like I'm in a completely different world even though my old home is only about 20 minutes away."His eyes were looking towards the ceiling, not at Sadako. It helped him focus on what exactly his problem was, as well as remembering how things used to be, and what was different from then. Toto was still hugged tightly like something between a stuffed animal and an emotional support animal. "I've also got this weird feeling that's different. I got accepted through a scholarship because I can fly with Toto- I didn't have to take the exam and go through what everyone else did. It just feels. . . unfair, and I feel a little bad because of that."Shion was definitely among the weakest students in the University, but the ability to fly on its own would give anybody a massive edge. Instead of walking, you could cover difficult ground so much faster. He probably received that scholarship because the elite saw merit in him being assigned to a role like reconnaissance. Inequality. That was the rule of the world that has persisted ever since the first Kalpa. A rule that is especially evident today, in the distribution of quirks. Sadako Gotoh |

"Whew. . . " Shion gave a sigh of relief as soon as he was able to confirm that he did not, in fact come in through the wrong door. Closing it behind him, he carried his alien friend in one arm as he approached the chair, as if he knew that he was going to be asked to sit. This was a counseling session, after all. "Yep, that's me!" He answered as he went ahead and got comfortable, looking about the surprisingly decorated office. The sparse number of house plants really brough character to the dull place, in Shion's mind. His attention immediately snapped back to Sadako as she asked for what he'd like to have, as well as Shion's favorite topic of conversation: the emotionless alien creature he always carried around. He lifted him up like a cat by the "arms", so that Sadako could get a clear view of the creature. "This is Tobarigami! You can call them Toto! Say hi, Toto!"The alien did absolutely nothing to this proposal. But Shion acted like this wasn't unordinary at all. The eyes sticking out of the multitude of bristles, which upon close inspection turned out to be a multitude of tiny hands, seemed to be staring straight at Sadako- Only for the eyes to move their gaze with Shion's torso as he turned to see what was there on the wall. They were just staring into absolute space. Nothing. "Oh, I almost forgot! Tea, please!"Shion's head was merely full with the thought of a nice cup of black tea, steaming with it's strong goodness with all the boiled leaves at the bottom- until he heard the sound of a paper being pushed towards him across a table. A simple worksheet to evaluate how things were going for him. Scrape, scrape, scrape, scrape-Without even missing a beat, Shion picked up the pencil and completed his selection within 5 seconds. If he managed to complete it so fast, he must have been damn sure about how he felt about everything. "Here you go!" He handed the paper back with a smile, the placements for the respective questions being [3, 4, 4, 4]. All out of 5. The higher the number, the better he was feeling about it. "Well, I don't really see anything bad happening if it gets out! What, you think I have a bomb, Ms. Gotoh?" Shion replied jokingly about the confidentiality, seeming very sure that nothing traumatic or too personal would come into the picture. Sadako Gotoh |

"Yup! Toto's my friend! All I need is a broomstick and I can call him out to help me!" Shion replied to both Freja and Jun's mix of curiosity and apprehension at his friend's appearance, just letting Sumi check him through and through before she went her own way. Said friend's blank stare through their eyes which peeked out through the side of the "brush" continued, with Toto staying completely motionless in Shion's arms. Slumped, like a bag full of wet rags. Their absolute lack of expression was a stark contrast to Shion's bright demeanor. "Creep you out? It's fine~ you'll get used to-"And then along comes Sebastian with the "tea" in hand. At least it was supposed to be tea, it seemed. Who serves tea in a tumbler? "W h o a. . . "For a few seconds, Shion was completely enamored with the man's appearance. Those blue eyes, that white hair, that fair skin that was just like his own- he wasn't even that tall, but the pretty face seemed to make up for it. Hell, Shion wasn't even able to hear Jun's retort as he subconsciously squeezed the alien in his arms, as if it were an oversized stress ball. But then he opened his mouth. Her number? Married? Icky friendship? Any amount of attraction Shion felt for a whole two seconds immediately disappeared as his face comically scrunched up as if he had smelled something stinky. How could someone so physically blessed be acting like such a sarcastic lech with zero regard for other people? The girl he was trying to rizz up didn't even look half interested from what he could see! "G-geh."Shion reflexively let out a noise in disgust. Jun was annoyed. Sumi was visibly testing Sebastian's worth as a man. The giant dude was being loud. The smaller girl next to him was apparently a robot. Freja and another girl were off doing their own thing. Shion was already well within danger of being subject to sensory overload, and to add on top of that four more people suddenly appeared at once. He immediately noticed the stare that Thea was giving to the person next to her. Shion felt slightly offput by it, making him wonder if there was something between them. Why wasn't she saying anything? Were they in some kind of complicated relationship? But just like that, the stare ended as quickly as it came. Not to mention the visibly inebriated girl, Emi, suddenly running over to give Jun a hug. This made Shion immediately forget about Thea's staring as he chuckled at the humorous scene in front of him. Seeing someone so serious from a first impression being piled onto by someone who was the complete opposite was a perfect rhyme that had no words. "Wow, everyone's so energetic! Are they all your friends, Jun? Is that your name?"Having heard Sebastian say her name a few times already, Shion thought it would be simply repetitive to ask her again. But something out of the ordinary was also happening, Toto was stretching out their body and gently nudging at Emilia's side like a cat would for the duration of the hug. Whether the alien creature doing this would be considered sweet or absolutely terrifying, would be up to the nerve endings of the beholder feeling the nudge. junsuina |

"Oh."It took for Sumi to spell it out exactly for Shion to get it. And yes, he got it now- but that resulted in a multitude of other thoughts running through his head. Thoughts about face, image, and what this would mean for the future and whatnot. No, no. He should play it cool. If he got overly emotional and ran off, this wouldn't be any different from 4th grade! "Yay, I made it! Nice to meet all of you! Yeah, yeah, I promise I'm fine!" Shion said, trying to speak to both of the girls at once while also trying to alleviate their concerns about any injuries he might have sustained. And in the back of his mind, Shion knew that this wasn't the first, and probably not the last time either when it came to crash landing on vehicles. But they didn't have to know that. . . Oop, and just like that Sumi dragged Freja off to get. . . medical supplies. Odd, he made it pretty clear to them that he felt fine. Well, Shion supposed it wouldn't hurt. He couldn't afford to get a check-up at the doctor every year anyway- not that he couldn't afford it, he just kept forgetting. Shame, he didn't get to know anything about them yet besides their names. Just then, Jun began approaching him while saying both him and Toto should both sit down. What was up with this girl? Shion thought as he glanced to her walking up to him terminator-style. She seemed so. . . serious, especially in a party like this. Come to think of it, he could hear arguing coming from somewhere he couldn't see just as he crashed into the ship. But thankfully, Toto was a great conversation-starter due to his strange appearance. Shion immediately took his opportunity to make the air more comfortable. "Oh, Toto? He's my friend, and my quirk!" He said fondly, as the alien creature that was being talked about, still in his arms, remained motionless and stared off into space with its large, round eyes. Shion held the coiled-up form of Toto out towards Jun, kind of like when your aunt holds out her cat for you to pet when you're visiting. "Want to hold him? He can make you feel better cause um. . . "He paused, trying to put his thoughts into words without sounding offensive or patronizing. "Because I-don't-know-what's-going-on-with-you-but-you-don't-look-exactly-happy." From when he was little, Shion had a habit of noticing quite early when someone was feeling down. But it was only about a few years ago that he began checking on people to make sure they were okay. Hopefully, trying to address her negative attitude towards the party wouldn't result in a hostile response. Shion liked his ribs the way they were. During this time, he completely forgot to sit down because he was too busy trying to hand Toto over to Jun. junsuina |

For a solid 5 seconds, Shion was out cold from the impact of the crash. It may not have looked like a big deal in movies, but in reality the shockwave that travels through the entire body can really affect your footing.
The alien creature he had come flying on simply lay there like a beached starfish, staring up at Freja and Sumi with its multiple large eyes.
After a while of questioning by the two girls that loomed over him, Shion suddenly sat up, rubbing their head as if doing so would make the dizziness go away. It didn't but the passage of time helped him get his bearings.
["Mm- this doesn't look like Yomi or the Pure Land, guess I'm still alive."] He thought, feeling oddly calm about the prospect of having died already.
And suddenly, without any help whatsoever, Shion stood up with no assistance whatsoever. Toto also slowly un-stuck themselves off the wooden floor, kind of like a snail or slug when they detached a part of their body off the ground to climb a garden plant. The creature then stood on its multitude of "legs" that resembled the lower brush of a broomstick. Large eyes still wide open.
Toto was carried up back into Shion's arms as he tried to laugh off the accident, hoping that any lasting damage wouldn't have to be payed for by him. The guy was just some poor dude from the country! There's no way he could pay for the repairs of some luxury-
Oh God, there was slave labor. Would they be forced to work under the oppressive heel of some rich girl until the end of their days?
Enough about that, they had a party to get to!
"Haha, I'm fine! Sorry about the trouble! But if you excuse me, I have a yacht. . . party. . . to. . . wait a minute."
He had crashed into a yacht.
Shion surveyed his surroundings. Beyond the two women who were right next to him, concerned for his health and safety, there was another girl who was obviously using some kind of quirk for self-defense against. . . something. Definitely not against Shion, though. That's for sure. There was a giant of a man who seemed to be busy speaking with a different, much shorter girl whose aura seemed to be off slightly.
And on top of all this, they all seemed to be around the same age as him.
". . ."
The gears were turning in Shion's head, but he wasn't quite at the point where everything clicked.
Something was definitely wrong. And it showed in his expression of confusion.

Dusk had set into the sky of Shinjuku. The orange light of the setting afternoon sun which had shown so brightly against the red beams of Sensoji, one of the largest Buddhist temples in the district. First there were about 50 visitors, then 30, then 5 as the sky changed from a comforting orange to a gray-blue with undertones of the prior sky- For who would come visit a temple after dark when it wasn't an important day or festival? Eventually, there was only one person left. That being Shion. Well, "left" may have been the incorrect term. He had just flown in on Toto, changing the number of visitors from 0 to 1. The alien creature changed back into an ordinary broom as their controller passed through the front gate, seeming to prefer being by themselves for this specific instance. The sound of night traffic fading out behind him, Shion went straight to the bell-tower, intent on sounding so that the Buddha would know that he'd be visiting. But he would be sorely disappointed. ["Visitors, please refrain from touching the bell."]He stared at the sign nailed to the beam, rather sadly as his eyes went to the great bronze bell next to it. Such a large and heavy bell was simply begging to be bonged- Shion was often allowed to sound the bell at the temple back in his hometown, but only because he was well-known locally. Small temples that weren't tourist attractions didn't seem to have this restriction. "That's right. . . this is the city."Shion said to himself absentmindedly as he instead headed towards the temple proper, where the saisen box was located. Here, visitors would deposit a small amount of money for the boddhisatva's as an offering. Kami and Buddhist deities were often treated interchangeably, something unique to the Japanese traditions. Dropping a 50-yen coin inside once he got there, Shion tried to "leave his desires with it" like he was supposed to- though his needs and wants didn't seem to leave his head at all. A person's thoughts definitely felt loudest when they were all alone. Ending the offering by putting his hands together and bowing towards the closed doors. Finally, was another box near the saisen. Instead of coins, this one was filled with strips of paper. Shion stuck their hand inside before pulling one out, eagerly opening it up to see what the omikuji, a form of fortune telling, would say about his future. Completely unaware that there was someone nearby who could be seeing all this. Zenkai Hatake |
