The black cat trailed uncertainly after "Tama-chan", across a grassy yard and towards the porch where a gaggle of cats lingered. Clearly, this person liked cats, which... likely made them an easy target.
A girl emerged toting a bag of cat food, which she poured into a collection of bowls. The black cat did not join the swarms of cats the descended on the kibble. It waited and watched as the girl deposited other items-- an egg, a pine cone, strange plastic items-- at different locations. Strange...
Finally, the girl took notice of the black cat, and there was a moment where the two inspected one another before she spoke.
The black cat hesitated-- who was Kami-sama? He glanced over his shoulder, but saw nothing else. She must have been talking to him! Kyo knew better than to talk back, though. Cats didn't usually talk.
So, the black cat gave a bright, scratchy meow when the girl addressed him, trotting eagerly closer. Despite his rough-and-tumble appearance, he wanted the girl to know that he was friendly! Trustworthy! ...then, perhaps, he could swindle her out of some very yummy food...
The black cat meowed again as he drew nearer to the girl, brushing up against her legs. He gazed up at her, blinking slowly. How could she say no to such a charming tomcat?

The "boy" had seen only a handful of creatures like these before-- bipedal, predominantly hairless, and with the most peculiar vocalizations. This one called after him-- his voice creaking like wood through the trees-- but upon seeing the boy, the creature had wheeled back in terror. Its companion, furred and quadrapedal, barked wildly. It wasn't worth the trouble-- having eaten as recently as he had, he felt no inclination to make a meal of the man-- and besides, he'd have to fight a dog to do so.
The man fumbled with a small, black box and began to chatter animatedly into it-- oh, was that what those were for? When the boy had found... well, the original boy... he'd had a similar black box in his pocket. Perhaps the "boy" could make use of it later. Perhaps the black box could answer his questions. The boy walked with trepidation down the road, eyes tracing the hard, geometric edges of the buildings. His mouth opened in wonder. What... were... these things? Sure, he had seen the soft-sided shelters ample times, in the woods-- humans would retreat into them to sleep at nights-- but these? These were huge compared to those! Simply amazing! The "boy" doubted that such monoliths would break-down as easily as those stick-and-fabric hovels.
The boy paused to touch the building with the palm of his hand, looking towards the roof. It felt somewhat... like the surface of a tree, but smooth. Were it darker, he could ease out of this form to inspect the building further... but the light would make such a thing unbearable. He'd wait until to nightfall to take a closer look--
He continued walking. There were all sorts of these structures, all different sizes and colors, some glowing from within as if they'd been lit with fire and allowed to burn themselves out. The boy drew nearer to the glowing opening, and found himself blocked by an invisible barrier. Within, people moved about.
The boy smacked his palm against the window, giving a shout of, "Oi!"
Believing the glow of an electric light to be fire, he was worried that they might get burn from staying inside for too long. The occupants of the room gave startled shouts. The boy drew his hand to smack against the window again, but a new voice froze him in his place. It was a woman, now-- her hair was a red much like his own, and her eyes shown bright. The boy snapped to attention when the woman shouted at him, inclining his head to listen. She held something up when she addressed him, but from this distance the boy had no clue what it was-- not that he would have recognized a "hero license" even if he was closer to her.
"... ex... plain... your... self?"
It was as if the boy had been holding marbles in his mouth, and each word uttered was another marble falling from his lips. The words felt so familiar, yet so foreign. And she sounded mad. Perhaps hitting the window had been a bad thing?
The boy gave the house a light, conciliatory pat-- trying to show that he meant no harm-- and then began to walk carefully backwards, his eyes never once leaving the woman at the top of the hill. Clearly, he had caused some offense in his assault on the building, and would now have to pay the price.
If the woman made any sudden moves, the boy would scramble into a run and skitter up a side-street, much as a street-cat might flee at the sight of a person... and even if she didn't move quickly, if the boy were permitted to back slowly out of view onto the side-street, he'd take-off running as soon as he was out-of-sight, bare feet slapping against the uneven pavement. He still had a good twenty strides to the corner, however-- if she were sharp about her next move, she might not have to worry about chasing him down.

Entering into the human world as a human had come with so many unforeseen difficulties for the slime. Other animals were not nearly so complicated. Yes, some animals could tell that something was amiss with the slime when it masqueraded as one of them, but those animals did not call upon more animals to try and contain the slime against its will. No, that was something unique to humans. And, if the slime had any hope of blending-in with other humans, it would need to learn enough about them to appear human. So it watched from drainage canals and the underbellies of parked cars, waiting for some hint, some deeper knowledge. All it got was humans walking quickly from one place to another, though. And that was not very helpful information at all. The slime spied a cat atop the wall of a house, which inspected the amorphous glob with barely-concealed disdain. A slimy tendril extended towards the cat, eager to grab it, and the cats’ lips peeled away from its teeth in a hiss. “Tama-chan! Dinnertime!” a voice called from the other side of the wall. With a flick of its tail, the cat rose and leapt down on the other side of the wall. Oh… did these creatures have some sort of agreement with the humans? A reluctant peace? Perhaps the real answer was not to hide in a drainage ditch all day, but to become a cat instead and wander amongst humans incognito. It was certainly a more interesting way to spend the evening than lying in wait. An amorphous arm extended from the slime towards the sidewalk above, condensing and congealing until a catlike shape stood upon the pavement. It continued to press inward, losing its translucence. And, as it became more dense, it became more defined. The form was a big-boned shorthair cat, with black fur and uneven whiskers. It had murky spring-green eyes set against a very round face. It was missing the tip of one of its ears. In life, the cat had been a rambunctious orange tabby of the streets. But, as the slime had eaten many years ago, its pelt had resolved itself to black– as all of the slime’s forms did with time. The now-cat moved confidently down the sidewalk, its long tail aloft. See, no one paid forms like this any mind. No one would ask a cat hard questions, or try to cram it into a container against its will. Cats were allowed to just be cats. Futaba Tamashiro

In the western part of the Tokyo prefecture resided the Hachioji Blueberry Field, a modest farm that pressed against sprawling mountains and dense forest. Birdsong caught on the wind, painting the air with a sweet and senseless melody as the farmer that owned the farm strode across the field. The season for blueberries had ended a little over a month ago, but early wake-ups were an old force of habit. With less work to do in the off-month’s, the farmer had taken to going on early morning walks with his dog, a tan-colored shepherd-mix who trotted peaceably up ahead.
The sky was beautiful, the blue-pink of an early morning sunrise.
His dog barked, the sharp sound cutting through the silence like the snap of a whip. The farmer lowered his gaze, following his dog’s attention. A figure had emerged from the trees– a boy, nothing but skin-and-bones, with a crown of ginger hair– he wasn’t wearing any shoes. A growl pooled in the throat of the farmer’s dog, hackles rising, as it circled back towards its owner.
“Maron, hush– pardon my dog, boy,” the farmer greeted, “You gave him a start, coming out of the woods like that– are you alright?”
The boy turned his head towards the farmer, followed by his shoulders as well as the rest of his body–as he turned, the farmer’s confusion turned to terror– a gaping bloodstain covered the majority of the boy’s shirt, even onto his pant-leg. The farmer stepped back, his heel catching on the uneven road, and he fell onto his rump. The dog’s protective growling increased to frantic barks, spittle flying as it shielded its master from the strange redhead.
The boy inspected the pair unfazed, inclining his head. He uttered not a single word. Then, as quickly as he appeared, he turned in the direction that the farmer had been walking and walked onward.
The farmer fumbled nervously into his pocket, pulling out his cell phone– his fingers shakily pressed 1-1-9 and he held the receiver to his ear, nervously clutching his chest as he got to his feet.
“Hello, yes– please, send help- there’s a boy covered in blood and I think he’s in shock, he’s just- he’s nonverbal and just walking away when I try to talk to him, there’s something wrong with him- Hachioji Blueberry Farm. No, he’s on the move- Yes, I’ll follow him. My dog doesn’t like him though-”

Kyo is a fiercely independent creature, stubborn in his pursuits. He just wants to do what he wants, and has little regard for authority or what's right... whatever amuses him, or his loved ones, that's what he'll do. One might even say that he's completely self-serving. He can be tricked into doing things he's otherwise reluctant to do– by either bribery, flattery, curiosity or challenge– but mostly he just does whatever he wants. Thankfully, he’s generally mischievous, playful, but otherwise quite harmless. Be careful not to incense him, however, for he's a sore loser, prone to either sulk or retaliate in the face of defeat. Kyo wears his heart on his sleeve, and is similarly charmed by kindness, earnest praise, and generally being cared for. He's always had to care for himself (as far as he knows), so having someone look-out for him is somewhat novel. The now-human facet of his mind craves that sort of intimacy. So it is entirely possible that, if someone shows genuine concern for him, he may become fiercely and unflinchingly loyal to them. Lastly, depending on the recency of his last meal is a huge determining factor for how genial he is. He's far more waspish and violent when hungry, but sleepy and complacent when he's recently fed. [attr="class","body"] [attr="class","header2"]APPEARANCE » HEIGHT: Natural, up to 12' // Human, 5'3"
» WEIGHT: Natural, 500 lbs. // Human, barely 120 lbs.
» EYE COLOR: Natural, glowing white // Human, hazel.
» HAIR COLOR: Natural, n/a. // Human, ginger.
» SKIN COLOR: Natural, teal to black like the ocean. // Human, freckled.
» FACE CLAIM NAME: Yata Misaki (for now)
» FACE CLAIM SERIES: Project K
Kyo’s natural form is terrifying to behold, for there’s really nothing humanoid about it. He’s a sentient mass of goo, generally dome-shaped 6’ in diameter and 6’ tall. Its surface roils like sea-water, scintillating teal in the sunlight but black in the darkness. Multitudinous glowing white eyes line its back without rhyme or reason, and a great growing maw sometimes stretches on one side of its body. To the touch, it is smooth and oily like petroleum jelly, and can have variable tension based-on how Kyo flexes his body.
His natural form can stretch and contort with great ease, extending up to 12’ high. Sometimes it will sprout tendrils to grasp smaller objects,
Its human form (currently the only one it has access to) is a small, underfed lad with a mess of red hair that often falls in his hazel eyes. Kyo knows very little about this form, except that he found it in the woods with a gaping, red wound in its chest (which Kyo has since healed-up while using the boy’s visage). His human form has a good many scars all over its body, mostly in the arm and torso area, but some on the legs, too.
Kyo’s never been a person before, so he does things that people don’t often do. He climbs things and sits on things that he shouldn’t, stands too close and says things that are mean, and is loud when it isn’t appropriate. But with time, hopefully he’ll learn.
When he’s sleepy, or hungry, his forms start to lose their credibility– he may start to sprout more eyes, or leak slime from his orifices, or move in ways that most things shouldn’t. [attr="class","body"] [attr="class","header2"]HISTORY The slime knows nothing of where it came from, of who it was before it found the human in the forest. One moment, the world was dark– and the next, it was lying prone on the forest floor, looking at the stars strung like fishing nets over the canopy of the pine trees. Nothing comes from nowhere, though. The slime was born in a hospital, to a mother that was fully expecting a human child. When she got an odious, black puddle instead, she and the doctors in attendance were mortified. They reached for it– but, sensing danger, the slime escaped down a drain in the floor, and escaped to the world beyond. It made its way into the wilds, subsisting off of various wild animals. Once it devoured an animal, it gleaned knowledge from it and could even become it, allowing it to hunt more effectively. For years– perhaps even decades– the slime existed as an animal, wanting nothing more than a full belly and a warm place to sleep. It wasn’t happy, but it wasn’t sad either. It just was. But then, it ate a human, and suddenly the world was brought into a much sharper focus. There were things the slime understood intuitively– this body it masqueraded in was not its actual body, but one that it had found, and subsequently eaten. This body had been dying before the slime had found it, too weak to move and gushing blood from a wound on its chest– the slime had simply finished the job, not wanting to waste an easy meal. When the slime ate the human, it gained the human’s sentience. At that moment, it was “born”, so to speak. There are visions of things beyond the woods– memories of a world yet to be seen– and of a family. The slime had never had a family. But surely, this human’s family missed it– and so, it decided that it would venture into the world to find the human’s family. Under that ruse, it could learn about the world beyond. When Kyo ingests another living creature, the enzymes within its slimy shell will digest and analyze the tissue. Once reduced to nothing but bones, Kyo can then use the genetic information to transform into the aforementioned creature. There are two types of information Kyo gleans from the animal that it’s eaten– its appearance, and its behavior. This allows Kyo to make a more convincing double, and allows it to blend-in until it can hunt and eat again. When it comes to mimicking humans, Kyo can even perceive some habits and routines of theirs, as well as some poignant memories. Although these do fade with time. Kyo currently possesses a number of animal forms, predominantly wild animals from the woods in the western part of the Tokyo province, as well as a few dogs and a few cats. He only has one human form, though. QUIRK DRAWBACKS:Firstly, the digestion process is slow– if Kyo eats someone, it usually takes 5-10 minutes (2-4 rounds of posts) before the form is accessible to them. While he’s digesting, Kyo remains still to conserve energy and prevent its target from falling-out. This is also the window during which a person can escape from them, as Kyo always swallows its prey whole. As long as a person can hold their breath for that long, they can fight their way out. Kyo can only digest things that have a Constitution lower than their Strength. Otherwise, its enzymes just feel like the carbonation in a soda… or at worst, peroxide against a fresh wound. Another issue is that forms “fade” over time. Once the bones of a form are fully dissolved, any color the form possessed will fade to a pale grayish-black, making it starkly different from the original form. This process takes anywhere from three to six months. As such, Kyo’s disguises are ill-suited for long-term cons. Kyo can only pilot one form at a time, as he only has one consciousness. His consciousness is contained within a small, crystallized brain, which is about the size of a walnut. It seems to dwell in the base of his natural form’s mouth, creating an ambient glow. If the brain is crushed, he’ll die… but he’s otherwise got no innards or parts that can sustain damage. Whenever he transforms, he’s still just goo– he’s just mimicking the bodily systems that other creatures have. Fire will cause the goo to dissipate rapidly, and it causes Kyo great pain. If a form is more massive than the amount of slime Kyo possesses, he won’t be able to take it. So, in dire situations, he may be stuck as a cat or a bird until he can eat again and acquire more mass. Droning noises– either very high-pitched or very low-pitched– are also quite uncomfortable for Kyo. They’ll make his form ripple, and ultimately slip altogether. He’ll be stuck as a slime, immobilized, until the sound stops. On the outside, his slime is totally harmless, and lacks the interpretive qualities that the enzymes within have. [attr="class","body"] [attr="class","header2"]SKILLS SKILL NAME: Killer Instinct SKILL RANK: C SKILL DESCRIPTION: Kyo has a predator's understanding of how to take down prey, and he does so with grace and efficiency regardless of form. This gives him an edge in hand-to-hand combat, since such conflicts come as second nature to him. He doesn't, however, understand fighting without the intent to kill (and ultimately eat).
