Yusuke had a rather normal life growing up, pretty much growing up in the shadow of his older brother Makoto.  His older brother had a much more lavished lifestyle due to being the first and eldest son, whereas Yusuke felt like he had always been an afterthought to his parents.  Such a distinction got worse as he grew up, but Yusuke never attributed this negativity to his older brother.  Heck, he was one of his brother's first fans when Makoto became a Professional Hero known locally as Icarus.  Though that sadly didn't last too long when during a villain attack on a prefecture outside of Japan, Makoto's Hero Agency refused to send support out due to multiple attacks occurring at the same time and sending the reinforcements to the more popular heroes within the agency.  Makoto and his own best friend, Mikhail a Russian Hero, were the only two Licensed Heroes dealing with their villain raid.  While there were no civilian casualties thanks to their teamwork, it came at the cost of Makoto's life as he perished due to the fatal injuries.

Yusuke got the full story from Mikhail after the funeral, and the young would-be hero lover's fate changed forevermore upon learning the truth.  Yusuke, as well as Makoto, already held personal issues with the celebrification of Heroism; but with the death of his brother it finally felt validated.  Even more so when the parents tried to praise everything that Makoto had done being a noble sacrifice for the greater good, when his death was entirely avoidable if his Hero Agency relented in sharing the reinforcements more evenly.  With a grudge in his heart that he couldn't let go, and unable to accept this wave of so-called love from his parents now that the Eldest Son was deceased; Yusuke cut contact upon graduating High School and moved to Tokyo.

Yusuke from that point on followed online guides to train both his body and quirk in secret, along with working odd-jobs to improve upon some crafting skills to help fund and support his own hobbies and craft.  While he didn't really seek out trouble during his early twenties, in the small instances he could help out anyone in need he wouldn't hesitate in the slightest.  Always giving out a hand to anyone in need, which pulled him into the Odd-Jobs trade where he had people hire him for any non-traditional jobs.  Building up his own skills to the point of being able to craft any kind of equipment or gear he and/or others need of him.  And only as he started approaching his late twenties did he start to feel his many years of self-imposed training start to take hold, along with having amassed a sizeable nest egg to start indulging in a more substantial side hustle of being a DJ.  It was a job he wanted to do ever since becoming a professional hero lost its luster, but as he daydreamed and brainstormed it also acted as a part to help create his own brand of heroism.  

After all, he inherited his brother's burning will of heroism.  He can't just walk away, but at the same time he couldn't work alongside the people who gladly used his brother like a pawn.  He was going to save people his own way...
