Sui was raised as a single child in one of the most affluent neighbourhoods in Tokyo by his two loving parents. Well, raised may not be the term that Sui would use. From a young age, Sui found himself feeling neglected by his two busy, very busy parents. Growing up in an affluent neighbourhood came at a cost, which was time and affection from his parents. They weren’t entirely absent like some other stories, but they never entirely present either. His parents used their money to fill the gap of time and affection, paying for nanny after nanny to take care of Sui and be there for him in their absence. It may have not been as thoughtful as described and may have just been a way to relieve themselves of responsibility, but it was something rather than nothing.

Dealing with an emptiness from a lack of affection from his parents, coupled with a self-centredness from his paid nannies bending at his every whim created a dichotomy inside of the young boy. Furthermore, from young he was enrolled in class after class and taught by tutor after tutor in things such as piano, choir, dance, gymnastics, and ice-skating-- things the young boy excelled in and was praised for. He was held up as a trophy in front of company for his accomplishments more than he was valued for just being their child. This resulted in his parents and his inner-self putting an emphasis on excelling to be praised by others, as if to fill some gap in himself to be worthy.

In his loneliness, Sui sought out other figures to comfort him. Heroes, mainly. He saw how they jumped to peoples’ rescue at the drop of a dime and any sound of crime, saving the day from the bad guys. It inspired him! Not for the reasons one may think though, such as being valiant, generous, courageous, or self-sacrificing. No, Sui was more astonished by how much they excelled at what they did, their status, and how they were praised by all of those around them. In his mind, they must have been very happy people with all the affirmations and love they received!

So as he got older, Sui pursued heroics and his parents supported him, it was just another reason to show off their trophy son they couldn’t find a few intentional minutes to spend with. Nonetheless, with money backing him and a skillfullness he developed with his quirk, Sui thrived in school and made into UA Heroics without a hitch.
