Angel's earliest memory is the velvet walls of the Menagerie, a dark purple so rich it always reminded her of plums. She never knew her parents, and had been told they'd sold her to the Menagerie as a baby to clear some debt, so she never cared enough to ask about them anyway. Instead, she was raised by a stern woman named Nova who was quick to anger and even quicker to swing. The Menagerie was a business that took people's money and in return let them drink and watch exotic-looking beauties dance and perform for them.

Beneath the business was a darker side, however. Many of the 'exotic' women that worked there had been purchased and raised as Angel was, and although Nova and the other shot-callers treated it like a mere job, those that quit would leave suddenly and never seemed to take any of their dear belongings with them or say goodbye. This of course led many of the girls to believe they'd been sold off rather than actually let free.

Angel grew up running to-and-fro cleaning, running errands, taking dance lessons, helping her sisters get ready, cooking, serving, all of it. She learned quickly to prioritize keeping Nova happy, and dedicated herself to being the perfect daughter and performer. As she grew old enough to join the others on the stage she swiftly became the club's top dancer, partly because of her unique quirk.
After an incident with a raven when she was younger, Nova learned of Angel's abilities and procured vials of blood here and there for her of a few species she could use to perform. Snowy-white owl wings, lush leopard fur, glowing rings, Angel stood out on the stage and quickly became their number one attraction, and for a long time... that was all she cared about.

Slowly though, things began to change. As Angel watched younger girls go through what she did, and knowing what their future held, she began to become bitter. Every time she was struck, every time she was humiliated, every time Nova put her or one of the other girls in danger... it began to build in her chest, but try as she might, she was too scared to do anything, until one night when it was far too late.

Angel had always tried to look out for the other girls and was quite motherly to those younger than her. She was especially close to a young girl named Starlight, whom she had raised and guided as a big sister at the Menagerie. Despite her best efforts, Starlight had developed a rebellious streak and acted out often, and before long tensions rose as Nova's patience grew thin.
Angel was out doing a party-call when she got a text from one of the other girls that sent her flying towards the Menagerie, literally. As Angel burst through the entrance, Nova looked up from the desk before giving a scowl as if knowing what the commotion was about. When Angel demanded where Starlight was, Nova claimed the girl had quit.

Whatever fear had kept her rooted to this vile place, it had no power when it came to Angel's protective instincts. Before she even knew what she was doing, Angel had slid over the desk and grabbed the shocked elderly woman by the throat. In her rage it took only a few moments to get Starlight's whereabouts from the woman before she tossed her to the side and walked out on a war path.
She found the place Starlight had been taken rather easily from the air, but she had still been too late. When she arrived, she learned the people that had bought the girl had done so simply to kill her, and they had already done so.

A few days later, newspapers ran that a massacre had happened in a warehouse on the outskirts of the city, and another victim was found in a club in the red-light district with the same savage injuries. One of the Club's lead performers, Angel Dust, was also reported missing. However the only description the reporters could get from witnesses was a white leopard with glowing blue rings...
