The Doctor is In

While she understood the necessity Yanai Hebiru couldn't say she was all too fond of going out drinking with her colleagues. Already she could see the work begin to pile up while she was out here, listening to teachers chatter away. She'd have to cut her sleep short again if she didn't want to fall behind. Still, as she spotted Futaba she realized the staff mixer wouldn't be a total loss. Excusing herself from her current conversation she made her way over to the librarian and gestured for a refill while sitting down next to her.

"Hello miss Tamashiro, I hope i'm not being a bother?" Hebiru asked while signing along with her words. "I've been meaning to talk to you for a while. If I remember correctly you study the effects of quirks on one's health as well, right?"

[Futaba Tamashiro]

Sometimes it feels like the UAU staff, at least the hero course side, forgets that Futaba works for the University. The other courses don't and often ask for help from her finding research material and such. Not the hero course. She usually got a 'Who are you?' when she would pester them to return books they had checked out for a year. Regardless, at least she gets invited to the staff mixers. She was busy not paying much attention, scrolling through her phone when she noticed someone sit down next to her. "Oh, hello Hebriu-san. Good to see you." Futaba slid her phone in her pocket before paying more attention to her colleague.

"Yes I do. My master's thesis was actually about my former quirk. Is there something you need for research material? I have some good connections at University of Tokyo." Futaba wasn't sure what her colleague wanted but she is always willing to listen.

"That would certainly be helpful." Hebiru replied with a nod and several hand gestures."I was also hoping to inquire whether you would be interested in participating in a study on the effects of quirk-altered physiology on sensory input. Having another perspective on the matter would greatly benefit my research."

While the side effects weren't exactly common knowledge it was no secret that Yanai Hebiru's internals were far from the norm. Certainly the 'transformation' part of her quirk was classified information available only to those who needed it to work alongside her but the 'mutation' she suffered from was in the public registry. As such it wasn't exactly difficult to guess why she had such an interest in the subject nor why she would believe Futaba might be similarly interested.

"I wouldn't mind that. I have the paper I wrote about my quirk we can use as a guideline. It's pretty extensive." Futaba would suggest, starring down her drink. It was some sort of beer one of the professors suggested. It wasn't exactly great but it would have to do. She wasn't in the mood to get too drunk in front of her colleagues. Not that it would lower the opinion most of them had of her.

"I know some academic papers that would love to publish a study like that if you are interested." Futaba would suggest. Publication maybe would mean she could have a different job eventually.

"That would be wonderful, Tamashiro-sensei." Hebiru replied while putting a kind smile on her face. Competent as she might be Hebiru's more and more discovering how much time is the constraining factor when it comes to doing research on her own. With someone as competent as Futaba working alongside her she's sure they could progress far quicker than she could by herself. 

"I'm sure they would." Hebiru nodded at the mention of publications. In her experience they tended to almost compete for them, eager to make money off her work. It mattered little to her so long as she managed to advance her research. "I'll collate some of my past research that may be relevant, combined with your paper that should give us a great starting point to branch out further. When would you have time to sit together and compare notes?"

[Futaba Tamashiro]

Futaba was a bit relieved that there was someone else as interested in research as she was. Last time she did research, she was still a undergraduate student looking into the causes of her own quirk. She remembered doing a brain scan and then doing the analysis on it herself, rather than asking a professional at first. She eventually got a second opinion, after she found a intriguing anomality.

"I'm busy for the next two weeks but I probably can get research gathered at that time. After that, we can do start doing a deep dive." Futaba would suggest, taking a sip from her drink and then realising it was empty. "Want another drink?" Futaba would ask, getting up from her seat.

"Excellent, that will give me enough time to do the same as well." Hebiru nodded in reply before downing the rest of her drink. 

"It would be rude of me to refuse." She replied with a kind smile. "A cola for me, please, I still have some paperwork that needs doing after this."

Taking the moment Futaba was gone to skim her agenda as well as her notes she offered a practiced thanks once she returned.

"I do believe our schedules match up, Tamashiro-sensei. I will collate my available timeslots and mail them to you once I've returned to my office."

Already her mind was running over possible angles to take in order to advance their respective areas of interest and how to combine them for the best result. Noticing that she was allowing herself to get distracted she filed the thought away for later and turned back to Futaba after taking another sip of her drink.

"But where are my manners. My apologies, I tend to get too focused on my work. We haven't gotten many chances to talk, how have you been?"

"Oh, no complaints here. Just sort of working through things. Making sure people don't burn down the library." Futaba would remark, feeling her phone vibrate. Glancing at the message, she smiled a little at her band mate group chat. Apparently So was in the mood for some late night snacks. Responding with a quick Thumbs up emoji, she turned her attention to her collogue again. A research project with a staff member was going to be nice change of pace when it comes to her usual UAU activities.

"We might want to look into getting a grant from JSPS. That would also allow us to do human observations." Futaba would suggest, taking a sip from her drink. At her last institution, she was able to attend because of her previous institution. "How have you been? I don't see much of the other staff on my day to day. Professors just send their assistance to get books they need."
