| [attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Two weeks ago, Jun had accomplished something she never thought she'd be able to do: she had acquired a boat. Was it in the best of shape? Absolutely not. Sure, it was made of fiberglass and in relatively good condition (minus one major hold in the front), but a boat was a boat! This was of course one of those small ones, just barely a little bigger than a rowboat, but it had an engine on it! And what few test runs she did with it before purchase told her that the engine was in dire need of tuneup, but that was okay! She owned this, and could do some really cool things with it! Like fish out in open waters, or even sail around the south shore and visit home! It was inefficient, but she didn't care: she owned a boat! And with summer coming up, and most repairs done with it, she decided to take her out for a test run. Christened the "Gurren Express", she went out to the dock and began to run her checks on it, proud as could be. Dressed in a pair of cargo shorts and red tanktop, coupled with a neon green ball cap, she'd don a life vest and began to start up the engine, squealing a little as the engine began to sputter and come to life. "Hey there, girl!" one of the old heads called out, approaching the ship. "You may want to delay your little expedition for a bit, especially if you're going alone! There's been strange things happening out in the bay, and a lot of us have had to beach ourselves because of some of the fish that have been caught." Hojirozame Mako |

Mako often went to the docks.
Carrying a fishing rod, a basket with some fishing stuff, and wearing her old kendo pants, a guy's button loose button shirt, and a straw hat, she was a frequent sight, hard to miss too. 6'4'', probably the tallest landmark around. The shark-girl was here for two reasons. First, she liked the sea. It was good weather, and it just so happened that it was her day off too. Both from school and from work. Second... if she were lucky, maybe she could catch a fish! And not pay for it too. And cook it for herself and her siblings she watched over. They weren't around though. Too noisy, could scare the fish. Besides, for once, the girl just wanted some peace, quiet, and tranquility.
Which was why she was not impressed, seeing lots of boats parked near the docks at this time. It's like none of the serious fisher-people even left! There was no way to try catching anything here, while they were docked. Frowning, Mako walked over to one of the familiar figures. She knew practically everyone here, if not by name then through general familiarity. As she approached, she heard the guy tell some girl she'd never seen here before about some weird fish they caught. Really? Was that what was ruining her day off now? Immediately put Mako in a sour mood, and putting a toothy snarl on her face.
"Hey Gramps. What's wrong with the fish?" - she asked, cracking her neck and some of her shoulder joints, as if getting ready for trouble, somehow. She breathed in the air wafting about.
"The ocean smells odd, somehow."
She could tell, even when not submerged underwater. Her gills flared at the sides of her neck, angrily. She gave the girl the old man was talking to a passing glance, but nothing besides that. Not yet. Needed to figure out what was going on, first.

| [attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... The old man looked over, eyebrows raised as a hint of familiarity crossed over him. "Ah, Mako was it? The fish, they're...we'll, they have feet."Jun blinked, turning more in her ship to look up at the pair on the dock. "Wait, feet? Like, animal feet?" "Yes, feet. But...well, it's hard to explain." He held his hands roughly a foot apart, trying to form words. "An Englishman named Brian flung a net out three days ago and caught a bunch this big. Instead of normal fins, though, they had the legs of a dog. And yesterday Yumo took a picture of what I can only describe as a reverse turtle. It had a thick shell, but it was...like a bowl. And its head was more snakelike, and instead of flippers it had wings. If there wasn't a photo, I wouldn't have believed it." He shook his head, sighing. "If I were you two, I'd pack it in for the day and come another time."Jun flared her nostrils, pointing up. "I've spent the better part of a month getting this ship sea worthy, and today I want to take the time to run her through her paces! No amount of weird stuff is-" Unbeknownst to Jun, a shadow was creeping into the harbor. The unusual smell Mako detected was only getting stronger, and before she could react the predator had struck. Breaking from the water was some sort of crab-bodied creature, but sticking out of it was the head of a Great White shark. And instead of pincers and legs of a crab, coming out of the shell body was a series of tentacles, each one housing a multitude of suckers on the bottom. The creature would park itself on the edge of Jun's boat, the redhead backing up just barely out of the way as the jaws snapped down on empty air. A second after the tendrils would fire out, about a dozen in total, at all three of them. Something that Jun or the old man would be unable to avoid. Hojirozame Mako |

"... Well, fuck..."
Mako was gonna call bullshit on the whole fish with dog legs story. It sounded like the kind of fairy tale fishers would tell to pull your leg. Kind of like the ghost ship, or the treasure at the bottom, near one of the dock's pillar-legs. She would know, she dived to find it, once. Or a dozen times. But, just as she was about to call the old man out, the proof leaped out of the water, literally! The monster was nothing like Mako has ever seen before - it looked like a weird crossbreed of several creatures, and with a vicious streak a mile wide! Before they knew it, the girl and the old man was grabbed, and the boat-owning lass barely escaped the jaws!
"Uhhh... girl, run! Go get help! I'll uhh... try to do something..."
Not knowing who Jun was, or even her name, Mako assumed her to be a civvie. Which meant that, in her mind, she was the only person who could try and fight this thing! Maybe buy some time for the others to flee! She'd need to rescue herself first, though... And then the old man. One tendril wrapped around her waist and lifted her off the ground, while the other latched onto her wrist. Both angry and frightened from being fish-handled like a puppet, she knew she had to do something, before she's dragged into those jaws!
CHOMP!
Mako bit into the tentacle holding her wrist. Her teeth were triangular and sharp, like those of a shark. She had a mouthful of the slimy thing she just bit off, and spat it out in disgust. It freed her hand, somewhat, as she was able to rip it out of the weakened tendril. Enough to grab the fishing rod she was holding, with both hands. Part-shark herself, she knew which spots hurt the most on that big fish head of the creature. Not that she was thinking clearly. More like, reacting and being scared shitless, Mako swung the rod like a big whip, and slapped that beast right across the side of its 'face', getting one of the eyes, and the gills. While the strike wasn't lethal by any means, it would hurt like a bitch.
And hopefully, make the beast let go of the old man at least.

| [attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... The slap, typically, wouldn't do much to dissuade the creature. But the hook on her line managed to dig into its eye, causing it to thrash and screech. It ended up flinging the old man back further on the dock, and after taking a moment to collect himself scurried off to find safety. Jun, however, would be hoisted up in the air, tentacles keeping a tight on her. Unfortunately, also in the thrashing process, parts of her boat would be destroyed being unable to stand up to what could only be the weight of a bus flopping around on top of it. Being far more concerned over it, she'd scream out, "MY BOAT! YOU DIRTY FREAKING POOZER, I'M GOING TO END YOU OVER THAT!" before an ethereal hammer fell from the sky, smashing right on top of its carapace. This did nothing to free her from its grasp, but did let out a satisfying CRACK upon impact. Unfortunately, this also prompted it to slam Jun down onto the dock, causing several boards to break and forcing all the air in her lungs out. To make matters worse, despite having a morsel in its clutches, the beast deemed Mako as a more immediate snack, lurching up to the best of its ability onto the dock in order to snap its jaws on top of her. 'Huh~ This girl ain't a civvie after all...'
Mako thought as she watched the boat-girl give the creature a wallop with that spectral light hammer thing. It was strong enough to make waves. Not strong enough to end the creature, though. It did give the shark-girl enough time to sink her teeth into the tentacle around her waist and chomp through it, getting herself free. "Ptooey~" - she spat out a chunk of it. It tasted horrible. Not what comics would make you think. Mako shot a look over her shoulder, to see Gramps make a run for it. He'd be safe, for now.
'But I ain't!'
That crab-fish-tentacle thing was clambering up to go straight for her. All after smashing the boat-girl against the docks right in front of her. It didn't seem very agile though, not when it came to climbing. Not being sure if the other quirk-user was out of the fight or not, Mako did what she thought was the most prudent. And that was trying to get girl out of here. Mako rushed forward and kicked away the tentacle that just threw the girl, kneeling down to pick her up.
'Good thing she's small...'
Having a goof foot point two over her would be real useful right now. The shark-girl grabbed ahold of the girl and tried to make a run for it, before those jaws would snap around her. She felt the clank of teeth right behind, just as she turned around and picked up speed. Her heart pounding in her chest, and adrenalin kicking into overdrive. Her gills flaring as she breathed through them as well as her nose, trying to get as much oxygen into her system.
"Hey... If that hit didn't knock you out..." - Mako muttered between paces, as she ran off with Jun carried off, bride-style. "That hammer thing would be real good right about now... Aim for the nose."
If that monster creature was anything like a shark, a hit to the nose might just disorient it!

| [attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun was dazed, and no doubt she'd be fish food by now if it wasn't for this random aggressive stranger. She knew better than to look a gift horse in the mouth. That said, she was having a mild panic attack from the contact alone, running off her sheer anger at losing the very thing she spent three months saving for and another one repairing, and to make matters worse she was having a hard time breathing. Legs still worked, though. "Put me down," she whispers, once they were a decent ways away. The creature behind them would be partially on the docks, tentacles flailing about trying to find purchase, but ultimately pushed itself back into the water, beginning to lurk beneath the surface. Once on her own two feet Jun would arc her back, taking a deep breath through her nose. "I have no idea what that thing is, but we need to take care of it." She looked up at the taller girl, making note of the gills and sharpened teeth. It was possible she was an accomplished swimmer...but Jun couldn't risk this possible civilian getting into more hot water. "Nose...yeah, aiming for the nose makes sense. Hammer alone won't do it in, though. Maybe...do you think it'll breach like it did before? If I can get a clear shot I might be able to stun or even kill it...whatever it is...those tentacles will be a problem, though..." Hojirozame Mako |

"Oh, you're alive."
Mako didn't carry the stranger longer than she needed to. As soon as the crab-shark-tentacle thing was left far enough behind, she knelt down to place Jun on the sand. The sharp-toothed girl was surprisingly gentle with that. Looking over her shoulder, she saw the creature crawl back into the water, and lurk somewhere beneath the surface. The stranger with the make-belief hammer was alright, though. And she proposed the two of them to take care of the scary thing.
"Yeah, sounds like it's our job. You're from the Academy, yeah?"
Had to make sure, just in case. Narrowing her eyes and looking towards the ocean glade now hiding the monster, Mako scowled, gnashing her jagget teeth a bit, and wiping her mouth from the creature's foul blood with her forearm. 'I could fight this thing in the water. It's a crab with extra features, can't be that quick. Wouldn't risk going up close, though...' - the cogs in Mako's head were slowly turning. She wasn't particularly smart, or knowledgeable. But the thing being of the sea meant she might actually know something. And it being part shark...
'Wait...'
A proverbial lightbulb appeared above Mako's head.
"I think I know a way to get you a clear shot." - she says, quickly dropping her kimono pants down, followed by the boyish shirt. Underneath, she wore a one-piece swimsuit with the name 'Mako' stitched at the back. She also had an empty space opened in the fabric, right above her rear. A very lanky, limber girl. Looking over shoulder to Jun, she said: "Don't freak out, alright?"
And then, she started turning. Bones and muscles shifting under the skin as it turned gray, a big fin protruding out of her back, and a fish-like tail too. The face elongated into an odd mix of a human face and a shark-like snout, along with fin-like growths on the elbows. She teeth grew bigger, sharper, and the already tall girl got a few more inches of height. Mako walked towards the water, not looking back to see the reaction. Going knee-deep into water, she brought her tail to her mouth, and... took a bite.
*CRNCH*
One could hear it from a distance. It sounded nasty and painful. The shark girl did not bite off a part of her tail, but she did bite enough to draw blood. Pulling away before it could get into her mouth and system, she spat it out, and then put the tail into the water. If this thing they were hunting was part-shark... it would catch the scent of fresh blood. And it would drive it into a feeding frenzy. And, hopefully, lure it to the shore.

| [attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Huh. Another UAU student? The odds of achieving that in the wild was slim, but Jun wasn't going to complain. "Jun, second year heroics," she says, taking in a few breaths and finding that she was in pain. A lot of it. Can't acknowledge it, not yet, she thinks, looking over at Mako as she mentioned a way she might know how to help Jun with their current dilemma...and dropping her pants in the processes. "Wh-what are you-" she stopped realizing that she was wearing a swimsuit underneath all of that. Made sense, she had a fishing rod in hand and was here at the docks. In the event something happened, she'd have to get wet at some point- Oh. She had a transformation quirk. That was...it was a little disturbing Jun couldn't lie. It looked a little painful, too, but at the same time Jun wasn't going to judge her for it. And as she set out into the water and bit down on her tail, she couldn't help but shudder. But the realization of what she was doing hit her harder than the wave of pain coursing through her, causing a small coughing fit. Yeah, something's dislocated or broken or something, she thinks, holding one of her hands up as she tries to focus on the emotion needed. "In brightest day, in blackest night...in brightest day, in blackest night," she muttered, repeating it over and over again to try and get herself in that mindset. Meanwhile, the blood from Mako's tail began to cloud the water, and bubbles off to her right began to form. They wouldn't move directly towards Mako, but move out in front of her. Like whatever was there was searching, thinking. Something deep within it must have been triggered, though, because after a few moments the bubbles moved at her with great speed, and before the head breached a series of tentacles shot out at her... Funny... I came to the docks to fish... But now I'm the bait.
Mako grinned at the irony, showing her rows of teeth. At least she knew what being a bait looked like. Having fished with a rod, she knew how the fishing lure worked. And, this time, she was ready. So when the tentacles exploded from out of the water, the shark-girl immediately made a run for the shore. There was a method to it, though. She stayed just a little bit outside of reach, sometimes even slapping away the tendrils that got too close, with her tail. Scattering more of her blood around from the bite she left.
Ugh...
Mako shook her head, to shake off the rising urge to just turn around and go at it, teeth-first. The scent of her own blood was starting to get to her, she couldn't imagine what it felt like for the creature in the water. That distraction though was enough for her to miss one of the tentacles, which managed to get to her and wrap around her leg.
"GAH!"
The pull. The flop. The dragging against the sand, back to the water. On her way there Mako managed to grab an abandoned beach umbrella, and jam its pole deep into the sand, using it as a makeshift support to not get pulled towards the beast. With panic and hope, she looked towards the 2nd-year student. Hopefully, her little maneuver got her a clear shot at the beast! What was she doing, mumbling something over there?!
"URGH... ANY TIME NOW!!!"

| [attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... The girl was definitely late to the draw, as Mako was slowly dragged back out to sea. The beast lurched from the waves, its maw opening up as its eyes were wide with frenzy. At any minute, its jaws would wrap around the girl, practically snapping her in half once it was capable of slamming its teeth into her. At least, that would be the case if something very bright didn't slam into its throat first, pushing it back. If she looked back, Mako would see the girl on the dock with what could only be described as a miniature naval gun glowing brightly next to her, hands shaking and teeth grit as she tried to adjust her aim. "Move back a little, if you can! I'm having a hard time aiming!" This was a strange thing to say, considering what was just accomplished. Bits of teeth and blood had shot up and over Mako as the tentacles tried to stabilize the shelled body, a second shot missing the nose but slamming into the shell and blowing part of the carapace open. Critically injured, the creature would attempt to make an escape, releasing its prey in hopes that it could make it out to sea to hunt again in the future. At least, that would be its goal. Jun took a breath as best she could, holding onto that emotion in order to keep the gun up. "Don't let it get away! I-I got one shot left in me...can you beach it?!"Hojirozame Mako |

' "Beach it" - she says... Uh-huh... That involves me diving into water full of... that...'
Mako swallowed, looking over her shoulder, at the water that was filled with the creature's foul blood. It was badly hurt by Junsuina's ship cannon, and was probably weakened. Not to mentioned, it was a crab. She could probably outpace it by leagues. Still... that blood was a problem.
"I'll uh... try..."
With that, Mako took a deep breath, and ... held it. Before running into water and diving after the wounded beast. Just being in the water with so much blood was making her see red. She gritted her teeth, her tail beating against the water, as she propelled herself forward, like a torpedo. Much swifter than on land, she made a beeline for the crab-thing, and dove underneath it.
Attack the enemy crab's weakspot for massive damage...
Or, at least, that was what videogames taught Mako. Getting under the crab she rammed him from underneath, pushing away from the ground with her feet and tail, in a powerful uppercut. And following suit, pushing the creature up, making him lose connection to the ground! Things were much lighter in the water. Feeling her own teeth crack and gnash against each other, she pushed the creature above the water, just for a bit!
'Hrrrrr... you better hit it... Or I'll... eat you alive or something...'

| [attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... The beast managed to slip away, but its injuries had disoriented it, tentacles quivering in the water as it tried to gather it's strength to get out to sea, to get away. Through all this Mako easily passed through it's defenses, and with a mighty uppercut launched it into the air, the underside of its shell cracking under the pressure. It hung in the air beautifully, or as beautiful as a fish monster could be, before Jun locked on, firing her last shot. The shell pierced through the weakened part of the shell Mako hit, causing the dock to be showered in crab guts before it flopped onto the surface, it's lifeless body beginning to slowly sink. Jun sank to her knees, coughing heavily as the slam from earlier was catching up, the construct fading as well as her vision. She saw the shark girl dive into the water; was she alright? Did she need to call for help? Jun wanted to dive in after her, but in her state it'd be like the drowning helping the drowned. Taking in a breath, she let out, "Are you okay?!Hojirozame Mako |

'Great... a shower of guts...'
At least the monster was destroyed. And Mako remained where she was, under water, even as the water around her was saturated with foul, purplish blood. She swam through it, wandering back to the shore, crawling out onto the sand. Her eyes was seeing red. It was not good. She barely held it together from going into a feeding frenzy on anything close enough that had a pulse. 'I need to turn back... now...'
So she did. Or try to. Junsuina would see Mako's shark-like features revert, and then grow back, this cycle going back and forth. Whatever was in that water, it might have been messing up the control she had over her form. When the girl approached to ask if she was alright, the response was a practically feral gaze in the shark woman's eyes. But... there was a struggle there, too.
When another bout of half-way changes came, Mako brought her forearm to her own mouth, and bit onto it, her sharp teeth going through the tough hide. There was red blood, going into her mouth, and dripping off of her chin. It helped wash off the foul aftertaste. It also brought a degree of clarity, compared to what she felt now. The switching back and forth stopped, and Mako managed to revert to her human form.
"Nghhh..."
She let out a groan of muffled pain, her triangular teeth still sunk deep into the meat of her forearm. The adrenalin was keeping the pain at bay, for now. But not forever. Looking at Jun again, her gaze ashamed and a bit frightened for what might happen, Mako attempted to crawl away.

| [attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... As Jun approached and watched the struggle she initially didn't understand what was going through the girl's mind or what exactly was going on. All she saw was the constant switching back and forth between forms, and it scared her. Even more so when Mako bit down on her own arm. And that's when it hit her. It was a transformative quirk, but there were elements of it that retained a primal instinct. There was a lot of science involved, but Jun didn't have to understand it to know that sharks were one of the oldest still living species on the planet, and there was something deep within her that she was trying her best to fight. "Wait!-" she coughed, doubling over a tad before righting herself. "Let...let me bandage that up for you. There should be a first aid kit...somewhere around here. There should be first responders on the way, so hopefully there...there'll be some people that know better...know what they're doing better." The longer Jun remained standing the more light-headed she felt. There was definitely a rib out or something, which would have to be treated one way or another. She wasn't down and out though, so she could at least do this one act of kindness. Well...that and she owed Mako. "I'm Jun."Hojirozame Mako |
