[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun grunted, shouldering the equipment to the best of her ability as she lead Ana on down to the docks. This was absolutely positively awful, but it was a small price to pay so long as her boat was fixed. She went into deep detail to Ana about her plight. She would have known about the boat prior, but insisted that it was seaworthy enough that she could mount the repairs herself. She was right, after all; as beat up as it was, it just needed a little elbow grease and voila! Unfortunately, the day that Jun was to test it out disaster struck: a weird shark-crab-squid monster leapt out of the water and ruined everything by smashing her boat up. It was devastating. To make matters worse, summer break was right around the corner, and if it was to be seaworthy in time she had to get an expert. It didn't take much begging to get Ana on board. It would cost her a lot of concessions, namely whatever upgrades Ana wanted to do and a ton of fries, but it was a sacrifice Jun was willing to make. And so as they arrived at the dock, they'd find the remains of her boat in a work shed. The entire front half of the boat was smashed, a chunk of the bow missing (apparently the monster ate it), the entire port side was mangled, and it was still damp in the floor of the ship due to taking on water. The only saving grace was it seemed like the engine was intact, but Jun couldn't properly test it because when the ship sank the engine got waterlogged. The words "Gurren Express" would be painted on the side, obviously Jun's handiwork. "So here it is," she says, a little deflated as she looked for a spot to set Ana's equipment down. Ana Borovsky

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
“What a piece of junk!”
The exclamation was surprisingly articulate considering it had been said through a mouthful of fries. Ana always had been good at getting to the point. She was almost as good at eating fries. A fact demonstrated by her immediately stuffing her face with another handful while she waited for Jun to set all of the equipment Ana had burdened her with so that she could snack on the way over.
She finished off the current round of fries, more had been promised, tossed her trash in a nearby receptacle, then began to rummage through one of the totes. “Have you ever heard of Theseus' paradox?” The question was a bit muffled because Ana was practically head first in the top box. When she resurfaced, she was holding what appeared to be a pair of dent pullers. *Heavily* modified dent pullers. Nothing ever remained basic once Ana got her hands on it. From the dent pullers to the boat before her. That had been part of the deal to pry Ana away from her lab to offer her services, after all.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun dusted herself off, taking a step back and wiping some of the sweat off of her face. She felt all yuck and probably smelt it too, not to mention looked the part. "It...didn't originally look like that," Jun says, taking the time to catch her breath. "I can't even take fault, it hit me!"The question about Theseus, as well as the modified dent pullers, scared Jun a little. Ana was absolutely terrifying and there was nothing in this world that Jun was sure that could change that. That was fine, it was a little funny to see other people squirm. Jun, on the other hand, was always a little scared when Ana pulled out tools of any variety while also asking her questions. "Uhhhh. I know of Theseus? Wasn't he some butthole king that ruled Athens and in general was a pretty bad guy?" World history was not Jun's forte. Greek mythology never stirred any kind of interest in her, especially with some of the weird and wacky mythos involving all that. Also, not enough giant fighting robots. Ana Borovsky

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
“No clue!”
That probably wasn’t the answer Jun expected, but Ana didn’t care about history. Was she a genius? Yes. Could her big ol’ brain have memorized historical info? With ease. She just didn’t want to because it wasn’t science. And science, not history, had prompted Ana to ask. Sort of. It was technically more philosophy, but one that presented a moral quandary in scientific fields when doing things like human augmentation.
“But the paradox asks that if you replace all the parts of something over time, is it still the same object?”
Ana stuck the dent pullers on either side of a particularly nasty crumpled zone spanning across the hull closest to her. Normal ones required some manual effort. This just required Ana to push a button that magnetized them and set them to work while she resumed rummaging through her supplies.
“I bet you end up wrecking this thing lots!”
Was she saying Jun was bad at boating or was she saying Jun had bad luck to encounter lots of things that could damage her boat? Who knew! With Ana it could be either, both, or neither.
“So if I have to fix it over and over, and replace everything eventually, will this still be the Gurren Express, or will it be something completely different?”

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun pressed her lips together, thinking. That did seem like an Ana thing to say; Jun really liked naval history, but the only thing about it that could pique Ana's interest was the science of it all. It was possible if she lived during the time of the second world war she really could make Yamato into a space battleship. The way that Ana phrased the paradox was...interesting. And to a greater extent, it made sense. It made her think of when she created a hole in her parents' apartment...the hole was fixed, but the materials involved weren't the same as when the apartment was initially built. Or...okay, that didn't really matter. And now she was getting a headache just thinking about it. "Um. Well. To be fair...I wasn't expecting some crab-shark combo with a bunch of flailing tentacles to come out at me on the docks. And uh. The engine I know for a fact is more expensive than the rest of the boat..." She rubbed the back of her neck, stepping around to watch Ana work. She had seen dent pullers in the past, but they were whimpy compared to what Ana's could do. "I mean. I can always rename it the Gurren Express II after today. I can do that, right? I mean, at least the entire port side is going to need extensive replacement with the fiberglass and all that..." Ana Borovsky

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
There was a grating crunch beneath Jun’s words indicating the dent pullers were hard at work. Ana, in the meantime, was pulling out tools for welding and muttering to herself about dimensional manipulation research. Transporting equipment would be much easier with unlimited storage. A single pack mule, or one whole Jun, which were the same thing really, could carry the entire contents of Ana’s lab if she could only unlock the mysteries of creating pocket dimensions without a Quirk. As it was, extra materials, namely the fiberglass Jun mentioned, was being delivered by a third party. Even Ana had limits on what she’d make Jun attempt to carry.
If only because science decreed she wouldn’t be able to.
“I’m not replacing all of it today! Probably! Maybe! So no need to rename it! Yet!”
Ana had tried to convince Jun to make several upgrades. She’d be lucky to get away with the few that had been approved. “But I could always add anti-marine creature artillery! Or you could just go with an old fashioned oil spill next time!” A joke. Rare from Ana, but perhaps more frequent since she had been spending more and more time with Gen. Not for any particular reason, of course! :)
“Or you could just… get good!”
There was the real Gen influence.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun crossed her arms, frowning a bit. "Can't be good if you can't get out of dock," she muttered, rubbing her chin a little as she looked up at the engine. "Uh, I mean. I think oil slick is illegal? Pollution and all that...and uh. I don't necessarily need anti-wildlife artillery. Pretty sure the problems in the bay as of late are a fluke occurrence. I think the worst I'd have to deal with is if a great white got a little too curious, but even then I should be able to jet away safely..." She paused, realizing something. "So it's great that you don't have to replace the whole thing! But if you really wanna upgrade something, you could tune up the engine while you're here? It's sitting about 160 horsepower, maybe rouding up to 200 would be useful in the future..." another pause. "And uh. Maybe some holders for fishing rods? I don't deep sea fish all too often, but having something like that outta help. Maybe bring back a tuna or two."Ana Borovsky

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
Ana was winning the war of attrition. She knew it by the way Jun was beginning to cave to her constant pestering over upgrades. Overclocking an engine would be fun. Quick, but fun while it lasted. A lot like G-
She blinked.
The second request had been made mid-thought. “Fishing rods.” Her voice had gone monotone. Surprise had broken through her mask. “You want FISHING RODS on your boat?” Her hair twitched from the annoyed attempted flicks of her feline ears pinned beneath.
“Jun. I’m a genius and you’re asking me for something you can get from a common hardware store. This is the type of thing a person would ask Hada to make. Not me.”
Ana huffed then rolled her eyes and threw her hands up in the air. “Fine. You’ll get your fishing rods.” Ana continued to speak, but it was in Russian and muttered under her breath as she turned to resume working on the boat. Though every now and then a scathing, “Fishing rods,” was heard in Japanese in what seemed to sound like an impression of Jun. And while Ana was busy fuming, another voice joined the discourse.
“Got a delivery for Borovsky.”
“You go deal with that or no fishing rods for you.”

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun turned to look at Ana, blinking. "Well...yeah? I mean, I don't intend to do rescue operations and the like on it. It's not rated for things like that. At least, right now..." She says, scratching her head. "And I'm just talking about fishing rod holders. Sea fishing is a lot different than fly fishing or things like that. Fish at sea are strong, and while the rods you use are a lot stronger you still need some form of support in order to leverage the fish out of the water. Something, something, physics and math and all that," she says, trying to explain her point of view. Which Jun had a point; it was much easier to yoink a fish out of the water when you had better science on your side! Regardless, Ana was a bit peeved, and Jun had to wonder why. There was a lot of nonsense (probably English) that she heard, and at the delivery she went to go take care of it. After getting the door and directing where to put the materials, Jun thought for a moment as she tried to think of a way to better illustrate her thoughts. And then it hit her. "I know! Once the Express is fixed up, why don't we pick a spot out at sea to go fishing? There's a few places where we can go do that and it'd be a good way to run the ship through her paces at the same time!"Ana Borovsky

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
Historically, Jun trying to explain herself never seemed to go well. It was like she was cursed or something—like being guided by the hand of a cruel god making her suffer for his own amusement. Of course, Ana didn’t believe in any gods. She only believed in science, Mama, and Papa. Which meant that Jun was probably just a mo-
“Is asking me for support holes really better than fishing rods,” Ana muttered from where she worked. This time it was in Japanese and still said loud enough for Jun to hear even though she was busy at the time accepting the delivery. Then she resumed rambling in Russian about how holes were how Jun got in this situation in the first place. If one counted entire missing sections as holes. Which Ana did for the sake of her own unintelligible argument.
By the time Jun finished her assigned errand, Ana had removed several scraps not deemed salvageable for the endeavor. What was trash in the present could be recycled for the future, however. Coming by materials outside of UAU’s purview for personal projects was difficult considering her own funds were closely watched by Mama for any deviance from approved usage. That was why Ana could only eat fries given to her by others. Mama would have most certainly disapproved of her eating anything other than sanctioned nutrition options. She was expected to run optimally. Proper food was fuel for that.
“Fishing? Why would I want to fish? Is this a racist cat joke because cats are supposed to like fish?”

If I was going to make an effort to be racist, I'd offer you actual fish instead of taking you fishing." Which...out of everything Jun said, this was probably the closest she ever was going to get to any of the lawyer genes lurking within her. "But, consider it like this! You and me, out in the ocean, a bucket of bait between us in the quest for the biggest tuna ever! I've never actually caught a tuna, but my grandpa showed me a picture of him when he was younger with one- I'm getting off topic." Jun held up her hands to indicate size, a big smile on her face as she started to mentally plan the trip...and all the stuff that she was going to catch.* "Just think...all the stuff we could see, all the stuff you could study!" She took in a deep breath. "Wait! You're studying biology too, right? This is perfect! You could use the boat to help you study ocean stuff! Like plankton, or...uh, the glowy stuff! Or octopus! Oh yeah, those freaking poozers with their square eyes and their ability to slip into the weirdest of places."She slapped her open palm with a fist, looking resolute. "We're going to find an octopus and study him! And then maybe eat him. Maybe. Depends on how handsy he gets.**"*: Jun has never caught a fish. **: Seriously, what the fuck, Jun.Ana Borovsky |

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
“Nyet, nyet, nyet,” Ana chanted as Jun babbled on about fishing. There was absolutely nothing she could say or do that would make Ana a willing participant in something so mundane as fishing. “Nyet, nyet, ny- Okay!”
Apparently there was exactly one thing Jun could say.
And say it she did. The lure of delving into marine biology was like catnip to Ana. Science always had that effect on her. Fortunately, only two people at UAU knew how to manipulate her with such a trick. If the whole school knew…
“Octopi can’t get handsy! They have tentacles! They’d get tentacly! I feel like I’ve seen something about this before too! Maybe in one of those comics you keep in our room?”

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun didn't know what 'net' mean, but coming from Ana she gathered it was 'no'. It was okay, she just had to keep trying! Over and over again. And the research thing seemed to get through! That was great, and awesome, and- "Wait, what comic? In...our room?" Jun had paused, actually trying to parse what Ana was talking about...only to remember a three-part series involving shadow demons that she bought but never cracked open and kept them under her bed. Her face turned a beet red, holding a hand as she cleared her throat. "There is no such thing in the dorm! Such a thing is embarrassing and crude and, and, and...okay, octopuses don't have hands! You win there!" And that was that. She wasn't going to let her thoughts wander any more on that front, absolutely not. Taking a breath and slowly letting it out, she did what she could to recenter herself. "Okay, so...do you want me to help in any way? Uh, maybe I should inspect the engine, ensure that everything really is intact..." It was, she made sure to check it after the incident. But she needed a distraction. Ana Borovsky

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
“Oooh,” Ana said, drawing out the sound of realization. “Are you feeling…” What was the word again? “Embarrassed?” That was the one. At least Ana was fairly certain it was. She didn’t understand embarrassment anymore than she understood a desire to fish for fun.
“Do you really want to look at the engine or do you want to avoid being embarrassed more?”
Ana had an uncanny way of digging into people’s sore spots unintentionally. Unlike Gen whose barbed comments with filled with as much intention as they were venom. Ana’s usually just contained curiosity. Usually. Now was one of those times, but even as she questioned Jun’s motives aloud, she moved to the stern of the boat where the outboard engine was mounted to accommodate the query in a supervised fashion—she couldn’t let Jun take a look at the engine alone unless Jun actually knew what she was doing.
“Tch, inferior engine build.”

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun had to bite back the desire to jab back at Ana or make a mean comment at Gen's expense. She had to reel herself in because she knew that Ana was a curious creature; she didn't ask questions in the way that she did out of malice or the desire to hurt people, but because she had this insatiable desire to know and understand the world around her. It's what made her a good scientist. "I'm not embarrassed. And it can't hurt to go over the engine again." This was of course a lie. Jun was trying to avoid talking about things she didn't want to talk about, though in this case it was out of a desire to not acknowledge she had such material in her room. She purported herself to be uninterested in such material or desires, and she was inclined to reinforce that until her dying days! Taking a multitool out, she began to peel off the cowling for the engine. On first glance, one might think it was a piece of junk, and that was because the motor was somewhere in the ballpark of two to four decades old. Upon closer inspection, one might notice that great care was taken to ensure the parts were lubricated and everything was in its place. Mostly; there were obvious micrometer misalignments and some pieces came off other engines and might be second rate, but to Jun the engine ran. It was good enough for her. "Hm. I think I missed damage on this fuel line..." she says, tapping it with the tool. "Might need to run a test on it to ensure there's no leak."Ana Borovsky
