IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
“Oh! I see,” Ana said after Jun’s dismissal of her question. Whether it was Jun’s intent or not, her response damaged progress made toward Ana’s understanding of human emotions. It would likely impact her next encounter with an embarrassed person. She wouldn’t correctly guess their mental state and push a subject that shouldn’t be pushed. It was one of the many reasons people avoided the strange girl. Their own lies perpetuated misunderstandings that brought them uncomfortable interactions. Ana, of course, didn’t know better. How could she unless people were honest with her?
At least she understood engines. She intruded upon Jun’s personal space to get a better look, but didn’t touch her. Ana didn’t like physical contact from most people either. “This thing is almost looks older than Quirks,” she said. “I stand by my claim!” It was an inferior piece of junk compared to what Ana could build—and what she had been promised that she could. Even if Jun had taken really good care of it. If you ignore putting it in harm’s way during the walking fish stick invasion.
She stood back up straight. “Waste of time! No ordinary fuel line will be able to hold up to my modifications anyway!” Ana paused and scrunched her nose up at the obsolete engine then sighed. “But if you really want to keep it for some reason, we can run a test first!” She was nothing if not ingenious. Her modifications could work around Jun’s non-Quirk quirks.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun looked at Ana, trying her best to wrap her mind around what exactly Ana was saying. It was hard to argue with a savant like this, but sometimes Jun couldn't help but wonder what plan was going in between those ears of hers. "Well, I mean...I'm no expert, but if it's possible to not replace something do you really want to go through the process of replacing it...? And I mean, this line might have, what, another year or so of use? Why spend the money to replace it now when we can run on it for as long as possible?" This was the frugal part of Jun's brain talking, something she had picked up from all the older heads in her family. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And this was a little amusing, considering Jun wouldn't hesitate spending thousands of yen on models and paints. As they started to look over it, the small, self-conscious side of Jun would continue to bug her, and after a minute Jun would chirp up, "Hey, uh. Can you not tell anyone about those comics...? I've...not read them yet and not sure if I want to, but if word gets out that I have them..." She trailed off, much more overtly embarrassed than she was letting on from earlier. Ana Borovsky

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
“It’s a simple concept,” Ana started, the upbeat intonation she used when fully masked dropped in favor of her true self for the sake of clarity to explain the situation. “If you do not want a proper upgrade, then you can keep the hose provided it passes the test. If I do the intended upgrades to the engine, the hose you have now will fail in a catastrophic manner, regardless of whether it is undamaged currently or not.” It wasn’t a matter of frugality or wastefulness, but one of performance and safety. Ana was even less prone to waste materials than Jun was given the outside monitoring of her money and the school surveillance of what goods she used there. Secrecy had a cost—one Ana found ways to mitigate through scrap.
Ana began to run through the checklist of potential points of failure for the hose and the engine in general while Jun decided whether or not she wanted the aforementioned upgrades which would be the deciding factor on a test and how the day progressed. Kei would have been better suited for a more mechanical application of skills (though she'd likely never admit it out loud), but Ana was no slouch either. Engines and robots were just a few finer pieces of circuitry, articulated parts, and some algorithms away from one another.
Jun’s voice pierced through Ana’s focus, causing her to pause and turn her eerily wide eyes to the other girl. “Hm?” Ana wondered why Jun looked like she had to pee as she awkwardly stumbled through her request. “Do you not want people to know that you wasted money on something you don’t really intend to read?” Jun had already told Ana she wasn’t embarrassed. She also showed how much she didn’t want to waste money or parts. So the natural conclusion (in Ana's mind) is she didn’t want people to realize she was a financial hypocrite. Not that she was embarrassed.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... There was an awful amount of hesitation after Ana explained her point of view. While Jun knew how engines worked and could get them in working order...she should really back off and let Ana work her magic. That was the logical thing to do, and so that's what Jun was going to do. However, before that, she had to clear something up. "Well, it's...the material. Curiosity got the better of me, and I'm just...waiting for an opportune moment, and Ijustdon'twantpeopletoknow." She was embarrassed, but Jun was too prideful to admit it. "The less that know, the better, you know?" A pause. "Er, you wouldn't...else I wouldn't have to explain it. Um. Okay, fine, it's...it's embarrassing." There, she was out with it. Ana might be mad at her, but it was better to come clean now than later. "Sorry if I seem a little defensible about...all of the boat. I know you have standards, but I spent a good two months getting this sea worthy. I trust you, and...I'll try to worry less about the project." Ana Borovsky

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
Ana didn’t blink once during Jun’s backtracking expedition. She didn’t even seem to be breathing from the odd angle she had put herself in to twist back to look at Jun while leaning over the engine. Several seconds passed after Jun finished explaining herself. Then Ana blinked and said, “I see,” before turning her focus back to the engine.
Another round of silence transpired, broken only by the sound of Ana disassembling the engine with her own multi-tool pulled forth from one pocket or another. Piece by piece, it came apart until it was sitting at their feet. Ana looked up from her deconstructive handiwork and at the bigger mess that was Jun. Somehow, that always seemed to be the case no matter the situation.
“I won’t tell anyone.”
It was the least Ana could do. Jun hadn’t told anyone about the extent of Ana’s mutation, Gen’s visits to their room, or any of the other secrets Ana had divulged by virtue of their shared living space. At least as far as Ana knew.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun let out a sigh, the tips of her ears a deep crimson as she struggled to make eye contact with Ana. "Th-thanks," she says, looking at the deconstructed engine that was now between them. While she wasn't the most tech savvy, she understood enough about boat engines and how to make them work. "I think I know the answer to this already, but do you need my help with anything here? Anything at all?" She was going to let go of the reigns, but she figured she'd offer one last time to help. Ana was far smarter than her, but she did only have two hands. Ana Borovsky

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
“The heavy lifting!”
Ana wasn’t built to be strong. Even if Jun didn’t consider herself physically imposing, she had packed on more muscle than Ana’s lean frame boasted despite the latter being a good deal taller. Plus, carrying things was grunt work. Jun was the grunt for the day since Ana had to be the brains.
Which was the more difficult role was debatable. Stripping down and carrying away discarded pieces of metal was sure to be exhausting, but designing schematics on the fly for overhauling and overclocking an old and extremely battered boat was mentally taxing. By the time the hull had been restored to a solid state, minus the fishing pole holders, and the engine upgraded, Ana’s head was pounding and her tummy rumbling.
“Fries,” she whined at Jun.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... The reality was, as much as Jun continuously said she wasn't strong, had a leg up on anyone who was just starting out in the hero business or never trained a day in their lives. Unfortunately, despite all the training Jun did she still lacked endurance. Her ability to outsmart and outmaneuver someone was her main strength and strategy, second only to the grunt work Ana made her do. All things considered, as tired as she was hauling things back and forth the boat was fixed in almost no time. Despite only doing heavy lifting, Jun was proud. "Oh, yeah. This is definitely a trip worthy of McDonalds," she smiled, looking over at Ana. Her fascination with all things potato was a little concerning, but she figured it was better than the grey paste Mother told her she had to eat. "C'mon. I'll make sure to get a big double order for you. How do you feel about sundaes?"Ana Borovsky

Ana immediately perked up at the prospect of a double order. Then she deflated when Jun mentioned sundaes. “They’re okay! We don’t have school those days so I can work on personal projects! But do we really have to wait until then for fries?” Ana had once again taken Jun’s words literally. It was clear there was an information gap in her mind that would otherwise form a connection between the word sundae and ice cream from McDonald’s instead of Sunday on a calendar.
She pressed her hand to her stomach just in time for it to growl. It wouldn’t be the first time Ana had to wait that long for food, but it had been a while since she’d received such a p- “Maybe Gen will feed me when we get back!” The idea banished the gloom that had started to creep up on the edge of thoughts she had to be wary of thinking in the first place.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun looked at Ana, blinking. Then she managed to piece all the facts together. "Oh! No no, I don't mean Sunday as in the day, I mean sundae as in the treat! It's ice cream with some kind of syrup drizzled on it- you know what, I'm gonna order me one, and you can try some of it, okay?" Jun couldn't help but laugh a little, wiping some of the sweat off her face. "We're gonna go now, so you don't have to wait that long. With how much you've worked me, I don't think I could hold out until then!" Ana Borovsky

“But if you try to cream ice, it will just turn into slush or water!”
Ana wasn’t getting any less perplexed the more Jun tried to explain things to her. “And why would they name it after a day?” Were Sundays colder than other days of the week? She would have to spend the evening looking at meteorological data to see if that was possible. It shouldn’t be, but why else would a cold “treat” be named after Sunday?
Her normal Cheshire cat expression had twisted into furrowed brown and an accompanying frown as she tried to sort through her confusion and curiosity. Humans were so strange. Oh well. Either way, Ana was getting fries. Her grin returned and she shrugged.
“Fry time!”
