“I’ve never been to an amusement park.”

The statement was unnecessary. Ana had already told Gen as much when he first set about coercing her to skip classes so they could visit Dream World during the middle of their school week when almost everyone else was in class. His insistence that it was safer that way if Ana wanted a proper date with him for once combined with a little bit of bribery in the form of her favorite things (including him) was just enough to convince Ana to abandon her academic pursuits for the day. Anyone that knew Ana, even in passing, knew that was quite a feat.

Now that they were there and surrounded by the trappings of festivities, Ana was ecstatic. She loved people watching at big events because it was so novel to her from a lack of experience that it was practically as foreign to Ana as she was to Japan. There was also so much going on that they didn’t have cause to watch her in turn. The lack of judgment and scrutiny was a breath of fresh air and allowed for Ana to relax on her usual routine of fully concealing her tail and ears. The latter weren’t pinned beneath her hair today, but hidden beneath a hat instead, and the skirt portion of her pinafore was so long that it almost hid all of Ana’s tail without her having to curl it.

Almost.

She had opted for less strict measures solely so that Gen could enjoy the feline features during whatever private moments they managed to steal away. He seemed to favor them. A lot. The effort on her part leaned into the theme of the day on his behalf—not hiding their relationship. Hence why her fingers were firmly intertwined with his and a less manic smile than normal curved its way across her lips as they navigated through the crowd before they parted to ask a question.

“What do you want to do first?”

Even if she hadn’t told him, Gen could’ve hazarded a guess. I mean, first off, Alaska didn’t seem like the type of place to have a lot of amusement parks around. There’s probably a reason why those Americans paid people to live there. The second, and most obvious reason was relating to Ana’s own upbringing, still a mystery to him, in some ways. Mama didn’t seem like the person to “waste” time sending their kids to have a day off. If anything, her lack of experience was playing in his favor. Most people by her age would’ve grown sick and tired of the affair, but she still had fresh eyes for this experience. [break][break]

The biggest challenge, by far, was convincing the ever-diligent tech wiz to skip out on a school day. As with a lot of students, she had yet to realize the fundamental truth about universities, that being that no one gives a shit about you anymore. They were adults, kind of. If they didn’t make class, no one would phone their parents or ask for a doctor’s note. As long as they weren’t late for tests and hitting the minimum requirements, no one cared. The only hitch was asking for someone else’s notes after the fact, but he could steal some dumbass’ notes later.[break][break]

Another reason was an excuse to get away from that glorified prison they called a University Campus. After the stunt he pulled at the latest tech-field pissing contest, lots of Randys were suddenly very keen on challenging Gen to fights. Something about wanting revenge for him trying to “Hiroshima” them. He didn’t mind padding his record, but it left little time for hanging out with his catgirl gf, which was already low after his failure to push out either of their roommates.[break][break]

That’s where the Dream World came in. He didn’t know how to feel about the whole “let’s openly invite criminals” deal, and the whole ‘unity’ schtick felt like a cheap marketing gimmick, but for 1000 yen, he was willing to look past it. How they were supposed to break even, much less turn a profit, was anyone’s guess, but he wasn’t about to look that bargain bin horse in the mouth. So, letting those worries slide off his back, he’d take Ana’s hand into his own, before answering her question. [break][break]

“If my Quirk still worked on you, I’d say the Haunted House, but let’s try the rollercoaster first. Maybe we’re early enough to get in before the line gets too big.”[break][break]
