Kaida looked at the ringmaster waving her over distastefully, in the middle of sipping on her frozen drink. Dream World wasn't something in her range of taste— she had simply tagged along a large group of students before ultimately abandoning them, not willing to put up with their loud voices and not-so-subtle stares. What they didn't know is that she was just there for the shaved ice and cold drinks, nothing more. She would be heading back to campus within the next few minutes.[break][break]

The ringmaster of the ring toss points at a large stuffed animal holed up at the top of his stall, the red and yellow livery blinding in the dim sunset light. "Come on, it's only a couple tickets for five rings! Give me your best shot!"[break][break]

Kaida stared at the dragon stuffie. It stared back.[break][break]

Oh, what the hell.[break][break]

If anything, it was good for hand-to-eye coordination training. Kaida paid silently, staring down at the rings the ringmaster gave her.[break][break]

"Hmm... how's about this? Tickets half off for anyone who wants to join this lass in a bit of competition?"

When the news about Dream World came out Retsu just had to investigate it herself. A place where anyone could go without some prick or the other taking offense to their very existence? That simply wasn't how society worked. It sounded like a load of bull. The longer she walked through the park without anything going wrong the more paranoid she felt.

Was it truly this easy? Enough enforcers willing to go along with the whole charade and an area under your control allowed you to just set your own rules? In theory she knew that was how all laws worked but to see it happen on such a small scale really drove the point home. It left a bitter taste in her mouth. What would things have been like if this was how-

She shook her head. There was no point getting lost in what-ifs. The ringmaster's call came at just the right time. Retsu was in dire need of a distraction and she might as well get some practice out of it. A melancholic smile curled the corner of her lips. Throwing objects at exact locations to get what she wanted was something she had a lot of experience with. Albeit the consequences for failure were usually much harsher.

"Sure, why naht?" Retsu shrugged while paying the ringmaster. How hard could this game be? Turning to face the other competitor she fired off a challenge before focusing on the target. "Ah'll give ya the first shot. Let'cha 'ave a little fun 'fore ya get rekt, ya know?"

Kaida gave the woman a quick once-over. With a get-up like that she thought she might have seen her on the news before— in fact, she probably did, but didn't care enough about any other trivial matter to remember. But who cared? Festivals were for everyone, and she didn't have any problems with questionable people showing up. Not because she was morally black, but because she was tired. Very tired.[break][break]

The dragoness set her drink down, raising a brow. "We'll see."[break][break]

Kaida threw one ring. It lands on the third row from the back, spinning before coming to a stop. Success. She looked at the other woman. "Your turn."

[Bakiri Retsu]

It seemed the other woman wasn't all talk. Retsu gave an acknowledging nod. Skill was skill no matter where it came from. Spinning one of the rings around her index finger she took aim at the pole at the very center before an idea came to mind. With a flick she let loose, the ring hitting the top of her intended target before bouncing to slam into the same pole Kaida had thrown hers at with its inner edge, smoothly sliding down on top of it.

Even though her throw was successful Retsu frowned. She hadn't meant for it to hit head on but for it to circle in the same way after bouncing off the center just like Kaida's throw. The maneuver was a bit more complex than the throws she usually used and experience could only make up for a lack of depth perception to some extend. Retsu wasn't quite willing to take her eyepatch off yet though. That'd be little different from admitting she had to be at her best to beat her opponent. 

"One-one. Reckon y'll manage a lucky shot twice in a row?"

The woman has an eye-patch, and Kaida knew she was playing into that. Hey, having only one eye made your sight bad, who knew?[break][break]

Nevertheless, Kaida doesn't simper over it, tossing another ring. It's a precarious shot but it lands and hoolahoops around for a few seconds before laying atop the other two rings. "Ooh, seems like we've got some real pros at play!" The ringmaster cheered.[break][break]

Kaida raised a brow. Was the festival so boring this was what he constituted as exciting?[break][break]

"Let's up the game. First one to land three on the back row gets the plush!"[break][break]

Kaida restrained a groan. Here we go.

Retsu shook her head. His idea of motivating them was offering a plushie? She almost snorted. When was the last time anyone had thought she'd be motivated by something like that? She couldn't even remember. Unless she was mistaken she doubted her competitor cared the slightest bit ei-

Her lips curled into a smile. Was that interest she saw? She might be mistaken but just in case...

"Up the game, ey? What d'ya say, is this dragon out y'r competitive spirit?" She chortled while throwing another ring, this time landing on a different pole in the back row. "Two-two. Why dun' we throw the next one at the same time, add a bit a' real excitement?"

Should Kaida agree and throw another ring Retsu would aim to have her next ring knock Kaida's off course before bouncing onto the final row. Whether she'd succeed in the attempt, well, that remained to be seen.
