How many times had Kei gone speechless while working in this stand? Either it was so little that it didn't register or so much that he'd lost count. Either way he couldn't remember, but he sure could add this instance to it.

Toru had turned back to the pair when Yaoyao started laughing, and Kei was so close to joining her. It was tempting with how ridiculous it all was- he'd been with her for years, going as far back as their high school days. Their closeness should've made it obvious surely? They even had the couples shirts Yaoyao mentioned. Kei tugged at the side of his own to highlight the 'I YAM' text, too cute not to wear while they were out together.

For what it's worth though, Kei didn't laugh, because man did Toru look mortified when the realization set in. He went with an awkward chuckle instead as he held on to the taller girl's arm. "Yeah, this is Yaoyao, my girlfriend! I'm really sorry- I thought you knew."

Toru's coolness was lost, replaced with the red face of someone who realized his error. "No, I had no idea. I'll just- I'll see you in class Kei, cute shirts you two-" With that he sped walk away. At least he didn't go in a full sprint like the other customers. Also he actually paid which was a huge plus.

Kei still felt bad though. He covered his cheek with a hand. "Oh my god, I talked to this guy for weeks. He was my partner in a project Yaoyao! How could this have happened again without me knowin'?!"

“Baobao, ah, baobao.” She wraps an arm around him and presses a cheek against the top of his head, still laughing a little. “In your real, real weak defense, he did only try it in the one language. Two languages short of anything that’d get through to that thick, beautiful, incredibly capable, incredibly dense brain of yours.” It’s a 2-for-1 joke (just like her life); poking fun at her baobei’s incredible obliviousness, and also calling back to the fact that when they got together in high school… she had to tell him in three entire different languages — Mandarin, Sign, and Japanese — before it’d dawned on him what she was saying.

Ah, good memories. Good times.

The shadows are still dutifully at work, turning dango on the grill and prepping their supply, Lili having temporarily taken over handling the orders just so they can have a second together. Sweet of her. Yaoyao’ll get her a sweet treat or something nice as a reward later, no matter how much she’s sure to try and refuse it.

For now, though, here's hoping anyone else still in line and getting an eyeful of all this PDA will officially be prevented from getting any ideas.

Kei smiled into the side hug though he wheezed at Yaoyao's words. "Two languages short!" God, it really did take him three languages to understand a confession. Nevermind the fact they held hands long before they even started dating, or how Yaoyao's nicknames started when they first met. He had a long way to go before he could truly recognize the signs that someone was interested in him without having to be asked will you go out with me?

He let himself appreciate their time together before the real world settled back in, with Kei noticing the dango was still worked on despite their hug. He really was thankful for Lili's help but they had to work. Especially when the next person in line was an elderly woman who wanted food but seemed too understanding of the wait, surely smiling at the young love before her or something.

Sheepish, Kei planted a kiss on her arm. "Yaoyao, we still gotta serve these people."

"So, this is where they live..."

It didn't take Zipper long to find out where they lived. It wasn't the first time they tried leaving her out of the loop. Flirt with your client's hot goth gf one or two hundred times and suddenly you're being clingy and obsessive... it isn't MY fault that Kaida stood me up on our date. If I had my own hot goth then I wouldn't NEED to conduct routine interviews with Yaoyao to see if she awas free this weekend.

Shoot... it's locked... Well, there's only one thing to do now. Zipper revs herself up and...

"What are you doing?"

"Huh?" Uh-oh. She's caught. Time to lie. "My friend called me over for an emergency. But they aren't answering the door and stopped replying to their messages... Don't tell anyone?" I'm adorable. She'll let me off scot free.

"Oh... I was hoping you were breaking and entering. Mmm, want help anyway?"

"S-sure!"
