Even with his hand on the ground it was hard for Kei to follow the fox' movements. Sure, blood stood out especially when the source was so close to him, but it didn't change the fact he was still sensing the rest of the elements. Sand, water, salt, that dropped ice cream if he really focused on it- all mixed together into the concoction of their place in the beach. It reminded him that he really wasn't a combatant. He was training one guy- imagine if he had a group to contend with. Oh wait, he didn't need to imagine. He just had to think back to that gang Farrin and him were up against that one time. Enough about that though, back to trying to catch Kupo. He was doing a good job evading the geysers, not even letting them distract him as he kept track of the charging claws' locations too. That kind of skill was probably expected coming from a UAU hero student but Kei was still impressed all the same. It made the support major focus up as well- he had to give this guy a challenge. He didn't want to let him down in that regard. Kei wasn't used to splitting his Quirk like he had been though; one hand sensing his surroundings while the other was outputting water. It was pushed to the point that the mound of sand around his palm began to grow in size. And well- that kinda went against his whole thing of his power totally only works on water haha!!He only realized it when he glanced down at his hand, but that moment was all it took. His eyes grew in panic. "Nononono-" Kei pulled his hand from the sand to stop his Quirk, but in doing so the water stopped as well. God, that had to be worse right? Kupo's gonna wonder if something's wrong. Right when he was leaping over him too. No, it had to be part of the strategy. It's gonna be a bad one but sure, let's pretend the water was holding the claws back somehow, so by shutting them off they could charge at the fox full speed while he didn't have much in terms of aerial mobility. At least Kei thought he didn't. But you never know, maybe there was some wind manipulation somewhere in there. But yeah. Water was stopped, and now the claws that fired them charged at Kupo while he was midair as they were closer to the student than the chasing ones. Kupo |

Farrin was okay. Still in top form even, with the way he was bashing into all the bots in his way. That's good to see. Kei gave him a thumbs up in response. The guy even thought to shoot adhesives on the broken pieces so they couldn't reassemble themselves. Not when the glue was too strong to pull away from. Huh, maybe he should try adding that to his quarms. He would get away from stuff a lot better if he could prevent the bad guy from chasing him. But then he remembered no one knew his quirk worked on that. So yeah, it's for the best he just stuck with water. What was he doing again? Right, they were still fighting. Their opposition sent most of his knights Farrin's way, making him heavily outnumbered again. Kei should help thin them out- a two versus... five? Would be more manageable than a one versus five. At the same time though, the opponent just had one knight with him now. Surely this was the opening they'd been looking for right? He had to trust that Farrin will be fine. They couldn't waste a chance like this. The support major reeled his metal arms back and snuck closer to their competition, making sure he was out of the summoner's line of sight by sticking to the side of the arena. Easy enough. The guy was wholly focused on the time-turner now- annoyance evident from his call. So far so good. When Kei deemed himself close enough, he deployed all four of his claws - two knights were one thing but who knew how strong the person himself was - and pointed them at both the summoner and his bodyguard before firing on all cylinders, four water geysers instead of two. "I passed out?!" Kei's just about ready to do that again with how mortified he was. Sure he wasn't the only one to be brought to the infirmary - that's what infirmaries were for, they were places where hurt people were cared for - but he passed out. How did he pass out? Did the class see him do that? Surely they did- god, he must've looked like such a wimp- A disgruntled noise escaped him when a light was shone in his eyes, the surprise snapping him out of his spiral. He rubbed them to ease the discomfort once the light went away. "What move?" Blinking, Kei let out a breath. "I was tryin' to duplicate particles in the air. It needed more focus than the usual." He hoped she didn't need him to elaborate. Hebiru had seen his file surely, so she would know what he could do. Better than his colleagues would at least. He still needed to answer her other inquiry. Kei sighed again. "Okay, what do I remember... we were in class. Introduced ourselves to each other and said what our Quirks were. I lied and said I could duplicate only water." Untrue, he said he could duplicate water, not only water. Still a lie by omission though. "The instructor - Stellar-san - she demonstrated her moves before pairing us up. I was partnered with-" He couldn't help his grimace at the memory. "Gen.""I... I kinda focused a lot on our group, I don't remember what everyone else did, sorry," he admitted, sheepish. Kei could only hope their actions weren't important to Hebiru's investigation. She hadn't said anything so far at least. Which was kinda unnerving but you know. "Anyway-" he wheezed. "Me and Gen. Partners. I didn't know what my move would be at the time, so we brainstormed. Gen was bein'..." Kei gestured vaguely, assuming the doctor was at least aware of the Quirk stealer's reputation. "Gen. I didn't know what my move was gonna be so he gave- suggestions." A pause as his breath grew shaky. Why though? He wasn't done. Kei furrowed his brow but eventually continued after swallowing some air. "Uh, suggestions. He mentioned the particles so I tried to do that. Duplicate them. I was for a bit, but I guess it wasn't fast enough because Gen was super impatient about it- but then he started encouragin' me? Told me to keep goin', that I was already touchin' the particles, things like that."He smiled a bit then. "I pushed harder - Plus Ultra and all that - and the fog actually got thicker! The whole room was covered in it, it was hard to see anythin'. I think my arms got tingly which made sense since that happens when I use my Quirk too much."The smile would shrink when he reached the next part of his story. "While the fog was up though, uh-" Kei looked down as his breath picked up again, one hand reaching up to grasp his hair. "Um-" He bit his lip, not even realizing he no longer had his toothpick. So Kei might've gone a little overboard. Like, okay, he was involved in a lot of crazy projects during his time in UAU. He made blasters, gauntlets, mechanical arms, robots, a freaking teleporter among other things. The teleporter especially was nuts, why was he the sole creator of that one? At least he had help with the robot. Not that he had no help, Jack was there throughout the process, but it was only to air out suggestions and be a second pair of hands he could direct. Kei still had to build the thing himself. God, he built a freaking teleporter. Where was he? Right, crazy projects. Kei made a lot of them, but the thing sitting on the table before the student had to be the most dangerous so far. Not in concept - the teleporter still placed first in that - but in intent. It could kill. It was supposed to kill. And the person it was for had the will to use it for that purpose. She was coming over right now, none-the-wiser to the reason he called her over. Was it going to be a mistake, giving her this? Everything should scream yes, actually, the thing shouldn't exist in the first place. He was building things for heroes - people who shouldn't go with the lethal option when handling an enemy. God, though, after facing so many monsters who would kill him without a second thought, he wanted to strike first for once. But since he had no training in that sort of thing, giving Yaoyao that chance was the next best thing. Something told him she wouldn't mind in the slightest. Speaking of, the door opened behind him and in came the love of his life. Kei quickly covered his surprise with a cloth before turning to her. "Yaoyao, hi!" [p]Kei is a short guy with a stocky build and bright yellow eyes, the only real oddity with his appearance being the cross-shaped pupils that’s a minor clue to what his quirk involves. His hair is unruly, bangs held back by the headband he wears so they don’t block his eyes. A toothpick can always be found held in his teeth when he’s not eating or sleeping, having made a habit of chewing them to prevent himself from biting his lip. Faint scars can be seen on his bottom lip from when the nervous tick used to be a bigger issue.[/p]

[p]In a world as dangerous as it was, wanting to help in some way just seemed like a natural reaction to him. His older brother was the same, and in fact held values befitting of a hero: kindness, bravery, perseverance. He had a cool quirk that could propel him to the top and be an inspiration to all. Kei wished to be as amazing as he was.[/p]
[p]He doubled down on his studies in middle and high school. Despite his weak quirk and small stature and tinkering nature, despite all the people who didn't believe him, what mattered most was having the knowledge and intuition that would get him in the hero department in university. At the end of the day, it was the instructors who had the final say on whether he was good enough.[/p]
[p]Kei's priorities changed when his class was attacked during a field trip.[/p]
[p]They were trapped; surrounded by monsters crafted by the villain holding them hostage. One closed in on them and Kei, in fear and desperation, placed his hands on the enemy and pushed his quirk as hard as he could.[/p]

With these arms, Kei can extend his reach and improve his mobility immensely, enabling him to climb walls and navigate rough terrain while keeping his actual limbs free. They can also lift things he otherwise could not on his own.[/p]
[p]What makes it unique is that each arm can act as a hose that shoots out water, which Kei delivers through handles on his device. Only these handles hold the liquid which is a negligible amount, making his Quirk crucial in its use. Kei swayed on his spot at the shoulder bump, laughing as well. "Oh y'know, just had to be sure." The relief on his face was evident though- several jumps later and Jack was still himself. Even with further testing he was fine, and so were the test dummies he was teleporting with. Honestly he was surprised at how well it was going. His brow furrowed a bit at the dragon's next statement. "Why you asked me to bring Jawny over?" Now that he mentioned it yeah, he still didn't know why he wanted his companion to be here. Sure their time together was entertaining to the shark - still loving the pets Jack was giving him - but other than that the little guy was hanging around. Before he could ask for an elaboration, Jack was gone again. Kei looked around him and yep, the lack of noise meant the dragon was not on the grounds anymore. Swallowing, Kei started his timer. "Probably just testin' how far it can go. It's fine. This is fine." As if sensing his anxiety, the pet shark waddled to bump his head on his leg, making a chirping sound as he did so. The gadgeteer smiled down at him. "Thanks Jawny."A minute later and the hero student returned. He wasn't alone. Kei wheezed as he stopped the timer. "You brought your pets with you?!" God, he knew it had to be done anyway but he still dreaded the notion of not only killing Jack with his creation but also everyone he teleported with him. The dummies were fine, but what about animals that were actually alive? He eyed the pets warily, searching for anything that was off. Which was actually hard when they looked even stranger than his own what with them taking on features that didn't fit any animal he was familiar with on top of the fox and lynx base they had. But Jack wasn't worried. His pets seemed to act fine as well. So he just had to trust that they were okay- even if it wasn't as much as Jack trusting him to keep his own pets safe during a teleportation. Kei took several deep breaths to contain any further outbursts that could've come out. Jawny was looking at him expectantly, likely wanting to play with his potential new friends. Kei hadn't expected this encounter but like- he couldn't refuse. They were already here. The trip would've been for nothing. So he nodded, smile strained. "Sure! Pet playdate! Go ahead Jawny." Ah, looks like Jack honed in on his nerves immediately. Kei let out an awkward laugh. "Yeah, I know- I just can't help it is all. You're puttin' a lot of trust in me to get this thing workin'. This is gonna be different from those apples." Apples didn't talk after all. Sure there was no damage to them, but what if there was some underlying mental shift that took place? They wouldn't be able to tell. And there was no way he'd ever test the technology on animals. He was getting in his own head again. Rubbing his face, he took a deep breath. He just had to trust that Jack would come out of this okay. The guy was depending on him too. Kei let himself calm down by focusing his attention on Jawny, smiling at the affection the little shark was given. "Oh yeah, no regrets whatsoever. He's been a good boy, right Jawny?" The aquatic quadruped let out a bark that was likely of affirmation. And he'd be 100% right. The gadgeteer reeled his metal arm back once Jack took his new equipment, nodding. "It's a good name! I'm glad you're able to come up with somethin', I'm actually horrible with them. These things I have?" Two metal arms waved before tucking themselves in again. "A colleague called them quarms and I kept it ever since. Short and to the point."A sigh escaped him as the device latched on to the dragon, and he circled the hero student for his final checks before standing back, making sure Jawny kept his distance as well. "Yeah, we're good to go! So on three, you initiate your teleportation! One! Two! Three!"And just like that, the guy was gone. More deep breaths were taken. Relax, Kei, he wasn't really gone. He moved spots. That's how it was supposed to worked. He stepped forward and waved his hand around the space Jack used to be in to confirm that he actually disappeared and not just turned invisible. And it was when he was doing this motion that a familiar laugh echoed from a place much higher up. Kei turned and a wide grin appeared on his face when he saw Jack standing unharmed, repeating his exclamation. "IT FREAKIN' WORKED- AHH!" God the crash of the dummy falling made him jump he was so antsy- but you know, that was such a small thing compared to the fact his creation actually worked. He tried to keep track of all the places the dragon moved too but it was hard. At times he lost him, only to find him again every time he heard a training dummy get forcefully dismantled. When Jack returned to the ground he laughed with him, arms raised in the air. "Dude that was amazin'! You were so fast!" Then he laughed harder out of embarrassment at the man's admission. "Hey remember- you're taken too!"Letting the adrenaline die down a bit, Kei encircled the dragon again for further checks on the CATS post-run, firing questions all the while. "How are ya feelin' though? Like everythin's together? Your mind still intact? Not havin' random questions about what's gonna happen to Antarctica when the aliens take over in 3297?" This was fine. This was fine. The knights were still standing as Kei was nowhere near as strong as Farrin when it came to breaking them even temporarily but at least he was running into the arena and not towards the edge. If only normal brain function was included in their sentience- then maybe the helmet clashing would stun them long enough so he could get a breather but no, from watching one of the hero student's opponents burst into armour parts, they were very much Head Empty TM. Which of course was no problem for them- they could pull themselves back together just fine! Great! Fantastic. The knights had longevity. Which was going to make getting to their master a lot harder. Not that he had time to think on how to go about that, he was still busy getting chased. Farrin's shot struck true, and the number of knights after Kei was reduced from three to two as the third was stuck on the floor. "Thank you!" But what he did was a sacrifice the gadgeteer wouldn't realize until it was too late, eyes widening as Farrin rolled towards the edge. "No!" He can't do what he'd done for Ylva this time- if Farrin was out he would not be able to stay in and win by himself. Kei's eyes returned to the knights as he heard them close in, and with his stress heightened, he pointed two claws their way. "Get away from me!" Torrents of water were fired from each, aiming to push them back. Maybe even out of the ring if they were lucky. Then they couldn't just run back in after right? Right? Farrin |

Oh god, here came the negative thoughts. For all the work they've put into the robot, it would be the worst if they could no longer continue it on their own. All that time, wasted, because he wasn't what Iphi needed him to be. They'll have to call someone else in. It would extend the time they've allotted to the project since the new person would need to learn its inner workings. Then what if said inner workings were built incorrectly so they have to strip the whole project to parts and start from scratch all over again? His own involvement would be for nothing, he was gonna be removed from the assignment, his extra credits would be forfeit, he'd fail his course now that he had nothing to make up for his absence, he'd get kicked out of UAU right when he was in his last year-Wait, what was a fantastic point? "It is?" What did he even talk about? Sensory feedback? Kei's focus returned to the hero. "Oh, that makes sense. While pain's important to us so we know if somethin' happened to our bodies, AI.ph.ii can continuously scan her own vitals." Must be nice, knowing if you're hurt without the agony that came with it. He sat up to look over the files, making a noise of agreement at her plan. Which she executed and finished pretty much immediately. Kei's eyes widened at their schedule as the essential piece was held in his hands. "Still? How much time did you reserve for trial and error?" It was a necessity but he didn't think they'd have a lot of it when they had only a week. Okay. Calm down Kei. You could still do this after all. He stared down at the hardware and took a deep breath. You could still do this.

Kei nodded, sighing. "Well, an hour is better than nothin'. Who knows- maybe we'll come across a way to extend it further." Critical discoveries usually happened when one least expected them, he found. While not the exactly most efficient, he was always thankful when they occurred. He smiled at the newly added design. "External battery it is! Just gotta find a good place for it so it doesn't become a target." They already had enough of those with the neural network and core placed where the brain and heart would be. It should be fine, they'll figure it out just like they had with everything else so far.
But here came another hurdle. Kei was lightly tapping his forehead against the table he sat in front of, running out of ideas on how to overcome it. "I don't get it. She's supposed to have your knowledge, so why is she still not usin' your stuff correctly?" Ana had always been the better roboticist than him. She knew the intricacies of AI, while he was usually the tool guy. He was surprised he got the offer to work on the project instead of her really. No point lamenting over that six days in, he thought, as he continued his monotonous action of tapping his head on the table. Come on Kei, think. There had to be something. He was breathing too fast he was pretty sure. He could hear it in his ear; feel the pace his chest was expanding and retracting. Shutting his eyes, Kei willed himself to slow his breath. There's a voice- muffled as if he were listening to it from underwater. Unable to parse it, he simply tuned it out for now. He hoped whoever it was would forgive him. Only when Kei felt himself more stable did he open his eyes to look up slowly. Ah. The doctor. That made sense. "Hi Yanai-san," came his weak greeting. This was usually the part where he'd say he's fine. He simply tripped, such a klutz sometimes. It happens. But a shaky laugh escaped him instead at the question. "Not good." There was no use lying to medical personnel anyway. Though he could move himself. It was the least Kei could do for likely scaring her by falling on his face. Nodding at her silent instruction, he carefully grasped the handles to pull himself up and seat himself on the edge of the bed. Already he was exhausted from the maneuver- just how weak was he? Letting himself catch his breath first, the support student turned to Hebiru, finally able to focus on her face. "Remember what happened?" He furrowed his brow, thinking as he looked down on his hands. "I remember bein' in Stellar's class- she was teachin' us super moves. We all got partnered up for it. I might've used mine at one point?" He tried to make fists with his hands but his fingers wouldn't curl all the way. Worried eyes returned to the doctor. "I should be there still. Okay, Kei didn't expect the innocent question. It prompted an honest answer- a thought that appeared in his head before he made the taunt. "Some people hype themselves up too much- think they're the best when they just started trainin'. They usually slip up after so I'm glad you're actually fast!" That part was true at least, he was glad the fox was fast. Though he still wasn't revealing the fact it was a poor attempt at goading the guy. If anything Kupo was better at it with the way he landed on the arm and got up to his face. Yelping in surprise at the closeness, Kei nearly fell back but a third arm grasped the floor at the last second to stabilize him. A wheeze escaped him at the accusation. "Am I?" He didn't think he was- sure he had a slow start but that's how training sessions should go shouldn't it? A warm up before everything ramped up into a true challenge. He had a choice to make here. Either continue as planned or agree to the hero student's request and trust that he could handle it. Kei huffed. It was obvious what the choice should be. Turning only partially to where he thought Kupo would be, one hand rested on a handle deployed from his pack. "Alright, but remember- you asked for it!"He pressed his other hand into the sand. Find the closest source of blood and the extended arms moved only enough to face their target before firing. Two torrents of water were shot Kupo's way, and so long as he was grounded they would continue to lock on him with the spray. "If I choose to sing people are gonna be annoyed by my lack of volume control and would yell at me to stop but I can't stop because I gotta sing to every song, but if I dance instead it's easy to notice because humans are wired to pick up movement from the corner from their eye- it's how humans evaded danger since ancient times! So if I dance to every song I'm definitely gonna draw a crowd and everyone's gonna laugh at me because I suck at dancin'- also what if I trip? Not only would that be embarrassin' but I could break somethin'- I've broken bones before, it's horrible.
Let's just go with singin'... at least I've been told my voice is okay."
