Confession time: sometimes, on shitty, shitty days, Yaoyao thinks there’s no way Kei feels for her anything remotely close to what she feels for him. How could he? He’s sweet, normal, human, soft-hearted. Grounded. Real. Where she’s… y’know. Unnatural. Scary. Weird. A freak, an aberration, an unholy nightmare of evolution and maybe fucked up quirk science, too, if the flashes of distant memories she’s uncovering in “”””therapy”””” can be trusted (jury’s still out). All that ’n hell in a hand-basket for a personality, too. Makes perfect sense that she can’t love normal. Makes perfect, perfect sense that no rational, reasonable, normal human being would be able to match her, crazy for crazy.

Then, sometimes, Kei looks at her just so, or says somethin’ just so, or does somethin’ just so — and she feels her insides melt. Warm and gooey and soft and molten, like the center of a little lava cake done just right.

Times like this, especially:

Okay, yeah, it doesn’t take much. She’s a little whipped. So sue her. Anyway — when her baobao calls, his Yaoyao answers. Not like she wasn’t gonna swing by his lab at the end of the day anyway, to pick him up and walk his cute ass home; if anything this just gives her an excuse to see him even sooner. And who’s she to look a Kei-related gift horse in the mouth?

So Kei might've gone a little overboard.

Like, okay, he was involved in a lot of crazy projects during his time in UAU. He made blasters, gauntlets, mechanical arms, robots, a freaking teleporter among other things. The teleporter especially was nuts, why was he the sole creator of that one? At least he had help with the robot. Not that he had no help, Jack was there throughout the process, but it was only to air out suggestions and be a second pair of hands he could direct. Kei still had to build the thing himself.

God, he built a freaking teleporter.

Where was he?

Right, crazy projects. Kei made a lot of them, but the thing sitting on the table before the student had to be the most dangerous so far. Not in concept - the teleporter still placed first in that - but in intent. It could kill. It was supposed to kill. And the person it was for had the will to use it for that purpose. She was coming over right now, none-the-wiser to the reason he called her over.

Was it going to be a mistake, giving her this? Everything should scream yes, actually, the thing shouldn't exist in the first place. He was building things for heroes - people who shouldn't go with the lethal option when handling an enemy. God, though, after facing so many monsters who would kill him without a second thought, he wanted to strike first for once. But since he had no training in that sort of thing, giving Yaoyao that chance was the next best thing.

Something told him she wouldn't mind in the slightest.

Speaking of, the door opened behind him and in came the love of his life. Kei quickly covered his surprise with a cloth before turning to her. "Yaoyao, hi!" He bounded over and gave his girlfriend a hug. "How are ya? I hope class wasn't too hard today."
