Honestly he was a little worried about Thea, she always seemed to be dripping complete balls every time he had run into her. Glassy eyes, thousand yard stare, mumbling absolute nonsense, it was fun to watch at first but it Was starting to get concerning. The only time she seemed to have any clarity was When he had dumped popcorn all over her at Orientation which was definitely not a pleasant interaction.

Thus, the Sapphire-eyed titan needed a way to smooth things over with his new friend and what better way to get closer than to be stuck together on patrol together! While he definitely hated this part of his hero studies, it was an effective tool to get to know other people and he just hoped that Thea would be open to smoothing everything over...Or else this was going to be a very long...Very awkward patrol.

"Let's just forget about that incident and start over! You already know I'm Zen, and we're both in the heroes studies department which is a decent basis for a friendship" Zenkai reached over to give Thea a pat on her shoulder "You seem pretty cool even when you're tripping balls so I'm sure we'll get along just fine now that all that popcorn business is behind use!" Their intensities ebbed and flowed, threatening to drown her in the past, not just her past but countless hundreds of pasts, innumerable days, and innumerable nights. She lived through all of them now. It's not that she couldn't just bring her focus to the present, but to do so was effort. She despised effort. There was only a handful of things in this world or the next that could force her wholely and truly into the present. The primary of which was the one sliver of thought and perception she granted to the present as a sort of danger sense. The other was herself by will. The latter seldom happened. [break][break]

The titan's hand moved to pat her shoulder. Thea did not like being touched and she especially did not want the lumbering idiot she was assigned to work with touching her. Without facing them, she turned and shifted to intercept the gesture with her elbow, Careful to avoid any accidental contact that might trigger her quirk. “I'm not fucking 'tripping balls' It's part of my quirk,” She turned to look the titan directly in the eye. Not that it would matter, her eyes appeared as vacant as ever. “And I don't forget. Not in any way that matters.”[break][break]

Taking a step away from Zenkai, Thia tugged and readjusted the hood on her hero outfit. Unlike Zenkai, whose outfit could be mistaken for part of a standard Chippendales performers attire. Thea's looked less like a hero outfit and more like a gym one, the most notable parts being her hooded cloak that trailed behind her movements with a faint glimmer, and the boxer's hand wraps that implied a level of violence she was less than eager to deliver. “I just want to get through this and get back. We don't need to be friends for that, okay.” She said in a scolding tone, leaning forwards to emphasize her point despite the stark difference in stature.[break][break]

The Enlightened one gave the Mentat an amused look as she mentioned that they didn't need to be friends to do their job. She might have been right but she was definitely wrong in Zen's mind. They were in the same friend group now which meant that they certainly needed to be friends, besides Zenkai was a FANTASTIC friend to have! He always had food on him and he didn't care enough about anyone not to tell them the truth, eventually Thea would realize this and they'd become buds just like him and Zeus. "Nah, we're def ganna be friends before you know it Ma-Tte-a-chan~" At this point he couldn't tell if he was being serious or just trying to get on her nerves.

At Thea's request the titan pulled out his phone and looked through the route they were supposed to take "Yeah we make a lef-" Zen stopped mid sentences as he noticed a small crowd around a large tree. They were all looking up into the tree where a large cat was perched on one of the branches hissing down at a very nervous looking person Zen assumed was the owner. "Oh look, an easy win for us, lets go save a kitty"

Either that or Thea was already resolved to dislike him, which she definitely was. “Just call me Thea. I fucking hate that name, and I fucking hate people referring to me like a child.”She snapped at him, her mind and attention now fully in the present. The outburst was short-lived as the giant pointed out a crowd gathering around a tree. “Ugh, whatever. We're not gonna be friends, so let's just like, save this cat and move on.”[break][break]

She stopped for a moment, trying to reconsider just why it was Zenkais's mere existence set her off. Sure, he hadn't really apologized for spilling popcorn on her, but that wasn't all of it. She looked at the giant over long, trying to put it together. There was an oddness about him, the same oddness she felt when looking at Farrin. If she searched her mind for anything that involved him, she pulled up the last few days and then the same odd whisps and visages of memories, like they were unwinding at the edge of her mind. She could just ask of course, that would be the simplest way. But instead, she opted to ignore the feeling and continue with the task at hand.[break][break]

“I mean, if it's just stuck up there, you can probably just reach it. If I'm lucky, it'll claw your stupid tongue out.” She approached the crowd. [break][break]

“Alright everyone, we'll handle this. Mind telling us whose cat this is? My uh,” She paused; she'd be dead before she called him her partner. “My associate here will retrieve the cat so the rest of you can disperse; only the owner needs to stay.” She then proceeded to move the crowd along in the hopes that if she was busy, the titan could deal with the cat. If she wanted him to stop calling her that then he would. "Sorry Thea" The titan apologized, completely ignoring her second statement. She could say they wouldn't become friends all she wanted but he knew deep down in his heart that they would inevitably be friends. He didn't know why he felt that way but there was just a part of him that was certain about it.

The titan left his partner to handle the civilians as he climbed up into the tree to grab the cat. "We're friends, and partners, she might say acquaintances but we're really friends" Zen grinned as he told the assembled crowd before they dispersed leaving the nervous looking man who seemed like he was just about to leave with the rest of the people.

It didn't take Zenkai long to reach the branch where the cat was. Man that thing was bigger than it looked on the ground. The mountain of a man took a second to figure out just how to get damn thing down. While it wasn't hissing at him it sure seemed frightened as hell of the man below and definitely didn't seem like it wanted to go down any time soon. Zenkai had no time for that bullshit though, he needed to get this over with so he could continue on with his plan of Wooing Thea into friendship.

"Alright but, Lets get you down, I'll keep ya safe, there's no need to Worry" The titan reached out to grab the cat and as if on que the furious feline launched itself at him, clawing at his face to try and find a solid grip. Lucky for Zen, he had expected bullshit like this and calmly climbed down the tree with the cat attached to his face instead of falling down comically. Once his feet reached the floor the titan strode over to his partner and deposited the cat into her hands "Here ya go...I don't want to touch that thing ever again" He said plainly, his face covered in tiny little cat scratches

[attr="class","skullbody"]Maybe it was schadenfreude, or maybe it was just that seeing a cat latch on to the titan's face was innately funny. In either case, she couldn't help but laugh. Not a hearty one as she tried her best to stifle the laughter, but a laugh nonetheless. She quickly recovered her previous demeanor; she'd rather die than let Zenkai know he somehow brought even a modicum of joy to her life. [break][break]

The crowd had quickly dispersed, save for a lone old man who'd stayed behind to retrieve his precious pet. The titan approached and deposited the cat into her care. She cradled the creature in her hands for a moment. From an observer's point of view, the cat was quick to bond with her as it immediately rested on her, laying its head on her shoulder. From her standpoint, things were very different. [break][break]

The moment the cat was placed in her hands, her quirk took over. The cat's mind was filled with memories that didn't suit her expectations. Animals in cages, noise and cheering, the ringing of a bell, the smell of blood. Dogs barked and snarled as they pulled at their chains, slobbering before being let go and then, then, nothing. The cat would scurry away in fear waiting for the growling to stop. It always stopped the same way, a cheer from the crowd, then a whimper, then silence before metal ground against metal. The cat would occasionally peer its head and see what it was if the commotion was over. Whenever it did, it saw the same thing. A train of blood. One dog rewarded with meat, the other. Well, some say rest is its own reward.[break][break]

Thea turned to the Old man who was clearly grateful for having his pet saved. “Glad we could help.” She went to lay a hand on the old mans shoulder before snapping it towards his neck at the last moment. Instantly the man's eyes rolled to the back of his head and he fell to the floor. “Fuck you,” she spat at the man before turning to Zenkai. “This bastard runs some sorta dog fighting ring. Tabatha here,” she pointed at the cat, “was there to control pests.” She pet Tabatha before setting her on the ground. “Fuck this Patrol; I'm going to stop this. You can come If you want but do not try to stop me.”[break]

Of course he wasn't about to make anything of it, she'd probably just get angry or tell him that he was imagining it. Typical Tsundere. Honestly all that mattered to Zen was that the mentat seemed to be having more fun now than she was before.

As the titan wiped some blood from his face he watched as his newest friend quite literally floored a dude with just a touch. Zen had no fucking clue what had just happened. He assumed that it had to do with the quirk that made her trip balls all the time. Zen looked down at the comatose owner, wincing slightly, he was definitely going on a trip in his favorite rocket ship now. "Damn, Remind me to never piss you off" The giant kicked the owner gently before adding "At least he deserved it...wait...Tabitha?" Zenkai looked over at the cat in Thea's arms, raising one eyebrow. He wondered if she was going to be keeping the cat from now on but they had more important things to do.

It didn't take long for the enlightened one to catch up with Thea as she wandered off to what he assumed was the illegal dog fighting ring. "Nah, I'm with ya on that one, Fuck the patrol, if someone's hurting animals they need to get their ass beat" Zen grinned as he cracks his knuckles "So...where is this place...And how did you know that it existed...or that Tabitha was their pest control...or anything about the situation really?"

She wanted to dodge the question entirely and give some sly answer punctuated with a snide remark about Zen's intelligence. This wasn't the time for that, and unfortunately, this made Zen the first person she willingly disclosed her Quirk to, aside from when it was legally required. [break][break]

“My quirk lets me read minds by touching someone,” She wanted to stop there but realized that would only lead to more questions about what happened to the old man from before. “I can also give people information. In his case, something akin to the entirety of the Library of Alexandria. Most minds can't handle that kind of strain.” She navigated down the streets, bombing down alleyways and shortcuts as if she'd been raised to them. “You already pissed me off; I just didn't want to deal with the fallout of doing that to you at orientation.”[break][break]

It was a few minutes before they arrived at their destination, a small delivery company in an alleyway. The sign over the door read"Segal Way Deliveries." Even the name of the place disgusted her. Before the door stood a lone man smoking a cigarette. She knew the password, of course, but she didn't have the business card they used as proof that you're part of their VIP access. The kind allowed to watch the fights in person. “That's the way in. They use a card to prove you're a member, and asshole back there didn't have his since they know him. think you can break the door down?” She didn't want to relly on them for this, but picking the lock would take too much time, and the guard on the other side of the door was sure to notice if someone tried. “Once we're in, there's a few armed guards, at least two at the entrance but I don't think they'll be willing to use guns till we're further in, or they think we're real heroes and fire at us immediately. Turns out they don't exactly have a protocol for what to do about things like that.”[break][break]

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]Zenkai raised his eyebrows in surprise as Thea explained her quirk to him. It was...Scary to say the least. A person's mind was the only real place that they could have some privacy and with her quirk anyone's mind was now an open book. The golden boi would definitely prefer having an entire library forcibly downloaded into his mind than have her take a peek at his darkest secrets. Zen made a mental note to keep the Mentat at arms length lest she get any ideas about taking a sneak peak into the inner workings of his mind.

"That's cool as hell" Zenkai finally spoke as he followed his partner through the back alleys "Makes interrogations a lot easier when you can just pull the information right out of their brain!" The titan thought for a second before adding on "So like...Could you just teach me how to bake by just slapping the information into my mind? I've always wanted to learn how to bake but I'm pretty bad at it" While it was mostly a joke intended to lighten the mood, Zenkai really did want to learn how to bake and this seemed like a way easier route than actually having to read or watch something on Baking.

It didn't take long with the information obtained by Thea's quirk for them to find the location of the underground dog fighting ring. It looked like a simple delivery service, something most people wouldn't even think twice about. It's probably how they were able to stay under the radar for so long. Unfortunately the two of them had no intention of letting them stay in business now that they had found them. "Yeah, no problem, give me a second."

Zenkai was completely comfortable with playing the part of the muscle. It was a role he was good at, in fact, he'd go so far as to say he actually enjoyed it. "Hey there! Is this the illegal Dog fighting place?" The titan asked as he approached the guard, waving at him happily "I wanted to go see some fights" The guard gave Zen a confused look but before he could do anything the monster of a man reached out and grabbed the dudes shirt before slamming his forehead into the man's face with a loud crunch. In a whirlwind of blood Zenkai spun around on his feet before launching the guard through the set of doors, a loud crash echoing down the alley announcing their arrival.

"What's up guys! We're here to ruin your good time with our good time!"

[attr="class","skullbody"]It wasn't what she expected. In truth, every time she thought she had the titan's actions pinned down, something new and unexpected was brought to the forefront. She had expected them to break the door, sure, but at no point did she expect the cheesy action-flick styled line, nor for it to actually be kinda cool. [break][break]

As the body went through the door, she sprinted to the second guard, who the dynamic entrance had knocked back into a wall. She pinned his neck to the wall with one arm while her other hand met his at the hip holster he wore beneath his suit. Their minds connected, though the connection was one-sided as the tendrils of her mind slipped through his defenses, projecting memories of a past that didn't occur.[break][break]

He was paralyzed as soon as she touched him. He couldn't breathe, lungs gasping for breath, and yet he couldn't move anything save for his eyes and his thoughts. She let him go, even still he couldn't move. The seconds ticked by yet nothing happened other than for Thea sitting down on the floor watching him, hollow eyes peering into his as she smiled. What's wrong? Having a hard time? She cooed. His lungs burned, his veins bulged, and yet despite his efforts, he could do nothing but suffer. [break][break] You're boring me. She said, getting up off the floor and looking around before turning back, clapping her hands together in excitement, and moving out of his line of sight. She returned several minutes later with what appeared like a tube sock stuffed with something. Thea approached him Can't leave any bruises, ya know. Mercelesly, she beat him with the object for hours on end. The sunset, and she finally stopped to rest. Night passed, and he still couldn't breathe. Day returned, and the beating commenced anew. Three days passed in this hellscape.

She let the man go, and he collapsed to the floor, crying and whimpering while casting for air. She wanted him like that. She wanted them all to suffer for what they'd done here. [break][break]

"I can teach you how to do damn near anything; just find me someone who knows how to do it first." She returned to the previous conversation while footsteps echoed from down the hall. "Don't bother Renji, You can't aim for shit. Let Alexi do it. At least he's competent." She shouted down he hall to the two upcoming guards. Their footsteps stopped and whispering could be heard before they rounded the corner. It wasn't much but their confusion bought enough time for the duo to get through the hallway and remove their advantage at range. [break][break]

She looked over the titan, questioning if small arms were even a threat to his physique. They would certainly do a number on her given that her quirk was almost entirely mental instead of physical. It didn't matter. Whatever they brought to bear wasn't going to be enough to stop them, right?[break][break]

Even though hero work was mostly dull, he could appreciate looking like a badass. Of course his dynamic entry was over shadowed when Thea snuck in behind him and left the secondary guard and drooling, sobbing mess. Urine filled the titan's nostrils as whatever the Mentat did to the poor dude made him piss himself. Honestly, his newest friend was scary as fuck, whatever she did to the guard was nothing like what she had done to the owner of the cat, somehow Zenkai knew that it was far, far worse.

"Damn, I ain't never seen a grown man piss himself" The titan remarked as he strode down the hall "Anyway, I'm sure the baking club has a Genius or two that you can snatch the information from. I'll make the figure out who it is and get back to you" It was a little weird to be chatting so casually while in the den of their enemies but Zenkai didn't mind, actually he felt like he was making real progress with Thea, maybe she would actually consider him her friend after all.

His partner's next line confused him at first considering they were the only two that seemed to be in this cruel place but it was made all to clear when the two of them turned the corner. She hadn't been talking to Zen, she'd been talking to the two other soon-to-be victims that were roaming the hallway. Judging by Thea's words this probably wasn't going to be a simple brawl and he was definitely about to be shot at.

The second the two other guards were in view the enlightened one launched himself at who he hoped was Alexi. A second later the titan's fist collided with the man's face before slamming it into the wall, cracking the concrete behind him. Before Zenkai could turn around to attack the second guard two shots rang out throughout the hallway and the titan's back screamed in pain as two bullets found their home in his upper right shoulder. Zenkai had never been shot before and after having experienced it he could say without a doubt that he was not a big fan of it. It didn't slow him down too much but by the time he had recovered Alexi hand gained some distance between them, his gun already aimed to fire off more shots at the titan.

Thea could do nothing but watch as her mind ticked ever faster. The hallway slowed to crawl as bullet pierced flesh. Immediately every procedure and textpook she had access to came to mind. Zenkaio would live, their impressive physique contributing to how little the round actually did. Had the same happened to Thea, she may be dead on the ground.[break][break]

Cloth loosened around the mentat's arms before a quick jab launched it forward, the material snaking through the air as though alive. She couldn't outspeed a bullet, but she could predict its path. By the time Alexi could pull his trigger, layers of capture tape stood between his bullet and the titan. Material absorbed the projectiles, and two soft clinks could be heard on the ground. Or they would be if anything could be heard over the now cacophonous barking.[break][break]

Rushing forwards, Thea got next to her ally all the while pushing her capture tape forwards to buy a moment of time and get eyes on the titans wound. "You'll be fine, Lucky for us, your bodies as thick as your skull" It was obvious Zen already knew he'd be fine, but Thea wasn't going to let an opportunity to tease them pass her by.[break][break]

Alexi was competent. He could already tell that whatever it was 'That witch' did, the witch being Thea, was a play for time. unlike his allies, this wasn't his first time dealing with Heroes. Something he kept hidden from the rest of the shmucks he worked with. He pulled another gun from his jacket and aimed at the walls of the hallway before firing "Let's bounce" he muttered smugly.[break][break]

Bullets ricocheted around the hallway, and while Thea could see them clearly, reacting was another thing entirely. Capture tape span threw the air catching what it could but not before a round caught her in the arm. A ream of tape fell to the floor as she lost control of it. "Fuck." she cried as her mind raced to numb the pain with imagined sensations. "Hidden quirk, I guess? asshole!"[break][break]

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]The pain radiating from his shoulder throughout his body was enough to make the titan want to go home. His body felt hotter than usual as it reacted to the intruders within his body. Unlike most wounds that he had recieved since attending U.A.U. Bullets weren't just something that could normally sleep off, the bullets would have to be removed for him to heal which meant they would have to explain just what the hell they were doing to receive the bullet wounds in the first place. It
was way too much work and a huge pain both metaphorically and literally which mean Zenkai had to finish this all before they got shot anymore.

Thea seemed to be on the same page as she threw her capture tape into the way of more bullets with Zen's name on it. It was a surprise to the sapphire-eyed titan that a piece of cloth was able to deflect the bullets with such ease. What surprised him even more though was the fact that Thea had decided to save him from the bullets at all. "Aww, you really do like me" The titan replied to Thea's teasing. She might have just insulted him but the fact she cared enough to check up on him was pretty undeniable evidence that she didn't actually hate him.

Almost seconds after Thea showed she actually gave a shit about Zen it was his turn to return the favor. Alex was a superb marksmen and a hidden quirk that seemed almost made for guns. The titan watched as the bullet ricocheted around the hall and around his partner's capture tape before finding it's home in Thea's arm. It was once thing for the brute to take aim at him, he could take it and probably a few more. It was an entirely different story for the dude to shoot at his friend.

The titan was fast, charging at the the soon to be victim like a raging bull. Zenkai's size filled the hallway and he barreled towards Alex who was currently caught in the middle of reloading his gun. He was pretty sure he wasn't angry, after all, he didn't do anger but he certainly wanted to make this guy pay for his insolence. As soon as the enlightened one got within range his feet left the ground, pointing towards the gunman as he soared through the air. Before Alex could even raise his gun in retaliation Zen's feet collided with his face as the titan drop kicked him into and then through the wall of the facility they were in.

"Ya done fucked up there bud" Zenkai sighed as he stood over Alex's unconscious body as he looked about the new room. Rows of cages lined the walls housing barking and howling dogs clearly angry and afraid of the commotion that was going on. There didn't seem to be anyone else in the room currently which was good for them, they didn't need anymore guns pointed their way.

"Yo, Thea, Think I found the Jackpot."

She had no idea what else to say, given the fact that Zenkai managed to drop-kick a man while still having fresh bullet wounds. To top it off, it didn't even appear to phase Zen, who Thea was now starting to see resembled his name more than he should. [break][break]

Checking her own wound, the Mentat drew upon memories of similar injuries before concluding that the painful damage was nothing she'd have to seriously worry about. The pain faded as she overwhelmed the sensation once more. [break][break]

"Fucker was keeping secrets from his own team," She kicked the now unconscious Alexi in the stomach before entering the room they'd worked so hard to reach. [break][break]

The sound of dogs barking echoed off the wall, and the metallic stench of blood was everywhere. "This is sick, who does this?" she said, moving up to one of the cages as a dog snarled and snapped in her direction, fear and rage openly on display. "Hey hey, it's okay. Mamma's here, you're safe now." Slowly she brought her hand closer to the cage until the dog's snapping jaws touched the edge of the cage and she could press her palm against its nose. [break][break]

The two stood motionless for a moment as if they'd skipped a moment together. The dog stopped its threatening display before giving an approving bark and handing her its paw. "Good boy," her voice was meek.[break][break]

"Hey, Zen. I'm gonna calm them all down. Alexi has the key in his back pocket. Free the ones that high-five you." While her eyes betrayed no emotion, Thea's voice was a well of it. As she went from dog to dog, she appeared to get slower and more hesitant. At some point, she stopped altogether. She stared at the dog in its cage with her hollow unfeeling eyes, hand raised to repeat the process now for the dozenth time. Her eyes closed as she tried to focus her mind. A single drop ran down her cheeks and spattered on the ground along with the blood and the muck. [break][break]

"I'm sorry," she whispered between tears, "I'm so sorry."

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]On the surface the titan was as calm as ever, detached from the scene around Them. They had to be, one of them had to keep a cool head and make sure they the dogs as well as themselves got out alive. Inside of themselves though the titan was beginning to think that he should break all of Alexi's bones before leaving. To say that Zen had a soft spot for animals was an understatement. People lied, people were hateful, people generally just sucked. Animals on the other hand were innocent creatures undeserving of the cruelty brought upon them by man. Anyone sick enough to hurt animals wasn't deserving of mercy. All they deserved was a quick death so they could be born again into Naraka.

The titan reached into a cage and began to pet a growling German shepherd as he watched Thea coo and comfort another frightened dog. No matter what he did he couldn't take his eyes off her as she displayed a completely different side of herself than they had ever seen. The compassion for the animal's that Thea expressed took him by surprise, she was able to calm them down with just her touch. Her quirk was practically magical when it came to communing with animals giving her almost a Disney princess-esque feel to her. A pit began to form in his stomach though as he remembered the other part of her quirk, he couldn't imagine what kind of torture she must be feeling seeing all of the terrified puppies memories.

By the time Thea spoke to him the German shepherd had calmed down and was licking his hand. Zen nodded slowly and made his way over to Alexi, grabbing the key out of his pocket while resisting the urge to break every one of his fingers. Before he went to unlock the row of cages Thea had already visited he made a stop by his friend and placed a hand on her shoulder. A hug felt improper at the moment but he still felt the need to offer some comfort.

"I can't imagine what you're feeling right now but just take solace in the fact that the people who did this to these poor puppies will get what's coming to them." They let out a small sigh, he was never good at comforting people, the monks at the monastery didn't need to be comforted, people in the real world though...they needed comfort. The enlighten one gave Thea's shoulder one final squeeze before he turned around and went off to unlock the cells of the high-fiving dogs.
