Calliope

This was the moment that she had been waiting for. Finally, she was going to Japan to live alongside her sister and fulfill all of the lofty goals that her parents had for her. It was a long flight, and one that she seemed to half dread and half be okay with. Would life in another country be okay, or would she struggle to set up somewhere else that felt so foreign to her? Japan wasn't her home, and she wasn't sure that being by Iphi's side was either. For the time being, she would only have to stay there for a maximum of two years to showcase that she was able to become the hero her parents wanted her to be.

As she got off the plane and went through customs, there was always the issue of her quirk that made it awkward to stare at the customs agent. She tried her best to play if off cool, but it was still a little awkward between them. After going through, she would pull out her phone and text her sister. "I'm here now, just walking out." She would send it with little to no emotions, pausing her music for the anticipation that she would have to see a whole new way of life. Would her sister even be happy to see her, or would it be a mistake that she came to Japan in the first place?

Truthfully, Iphi was excited to see her sister. Maybe it was because they were family, but Calli's quirk didn't cause her discomfort, unlike everyone else and they were comfortable with each other because of it in the past. She was her best friend growing up, and when Iphi was enrolled at UAU, she was so wrapped up in her day-to-day that she couldn't visit as much as she wanted to. Following her graduation, she got wrapped up in Ouros, and her workaholic tendencies made it so she came home less and less.

She wanted to make up for lost time and didn't hesitate to offer to pick her up and help her get settled. Taking her car on a ride to the airport, she kept stealing glances at the bento she made for Calli. Her first thought was sweets, as it was customary, but Calli didn't like sweets, so a homecooked meal with local ingredients was the best she could come up with. Hopefully he tastes didn't change too much as Iphi made the design of the bento into a smiley face.

Parked at arrivals, she'd step outside of the car and held up a small sign with 'Calli' written on it as she waited. It may not have shown on her face, but Iphi was both nervous and excited. Would things be like old times? How much had her sister changed?

Calliope

It was hard to have an older sister because you were never able to know if they really liked you or not. Was Calliope just a distraction to her everyday routine, especially since Iphi was so job oriented? It made her wonder if it was going to be a worry of hers that she was taking away from other parts of her sister's time and life with her presence. It was like when you visited family- the first few days or even weeks were great, but then there become a time where people want to go back to their routines without you.

With that in mind, she had to be ready for her sister to not want her anymore. Perhaps that meant getting a job, or using the savings that she had to get her an apartment for herself. These were things that she thought about, but really didn't want to consider being true due to the image that she wanted to have of her sister.

Seeing her ready to pick her up, she would give a little wave and not avoid eye contact with her sister like she had so many. Thankfully, that was one plus of having an older sister that had a similar quirk to your own. She would approach and look confused on whether it was better to have a handshake or a hug in this situation. With a huff, she would move close enough for a hug of Iphi wanted to, but not initiate it herself. "I like the sign." Calli would point to her own nickname. "Did you wait long?"

Iphi couldn't help but flashback to all the times she played with Calli when she was a baby, when she helped her with homework, when she took her on trips, and even when she visited her in the past. She grew up so fast and she was only a few years away from getting her hero license. Even if she was disappointed that she decided to do her first few years at a different school, she wasn't truly upset. She was just happy to have her around now.

She'd lean forward and give Calli a big hug. There wasn't anyone she felt more comfortable with than her own sister, and she wanted her to feel as welcome as possible. "Customary when guests arrive. Normally you use the last name, but I think for sisters, it's a bit different." She smiled and helped Calli get her bags in the car, and then they were on the road. "Not a long wait at all. I arrived 2 minutes before you walked out." She would turn out to the road and point to the bento on the dashboard. "Are you hungry? I figured you wouldn't have eaten anything good on the plane ride over, so I made you some food. I left out the desserts, don't worry." Her sister never had a sweet tooth, and Iphi would never forget how she used to throw sweets when she was a baby. She really hated them, which was always funny to Iphi.

The hug was expected, but the feeling that it gave her wasn't. Her parents hadn't hugged her much, not out of love, but more so because Calli didn't feel like she needed them. She was a grown woman, she would say, and grown women didn't need hugs. All of that went away when she felt her sister hug her. She'd allow herself to melt into it for the moments she could, being transported back to when Iphi would cuddle her after a bad nightmare.

"I would hope so, our last name is hard enough to say for some, let alone speak aloud." Calli would speak to her in Greek, as it still felt more comfortable and natural; she knew she would have to brush up on her Japanese, but for now that wasn't truly needed. With her bags in the car, she would hop in and look at how nice her ride was. "Oh, good to hear then. And uh, yeah, the airplane food wasn't really my style." They'd offered a lot of sweeter side dishes that weren't to her taste. With the mention of a homecooked meal, she would ready herself and grab it up if offered to her. "I appreciate you thinking about that." Even though she was trying her best to get into sweets again, it was going to be a long road and a lot of trial and error. As she started to eat, her mouth half filled with food, she would continue to ask questions. "So what's your place like? Got a partner or something?"

As she turned out to the expressway, she smiled and swapped over to speaking Greek; rarely did she get the opportunity to do so freely. Sure, she used it in her work from time to time when translating in work but it was rare to run into anyone fluent out here. Having her sister here felt like the best of both worlds. "I didn't think it would be which is why I came prepared. I've taken plenty of flights internationally, and the outbound flights from Japan have always been better when it came to food. Say what you will about our home but experiencing greek food on a plane is not ideal."

She then needed to ask a question that she knew Calli wouldn't be a fan of: "How were Mom and Dad? Did they see you off?" Their parents were kind people, but it would be ignorant of her to say they didn't hold some of the same expectations of Iphi when it came to Calli. She didn't agree with it but hoped that time apart might ease the tensions when it came between her family. She was more than happy to move on from the uncomfortable topic. "It's fairly standard. I split my time between my home and the office at the agency, and unless you count Sadako as a partner, then no. I keep myself busy." She'd make a turn off the expressway they were only a few minutes from the place "What about you? Should I be preparing myself for any in-laws?"

"I guess you are more well-versed than me." Calliope assumed that Iphigenia had been a lot of places due to her knowledge. She didn't care too much if the food was good or not. Calliope was there to see her sister and try her hand at being a hero like her sister. "I would never expect an airplane to be able to capture our food." Airplane food rarely was able to capture any country's food well, let alone some that needed to be made a certain way.

When the question of their parents came up, she sighed. "No, they were too busy." She'd cross her arms, not even wanting to eat now at the mention of it. "They talked to me the night before leaving, to make sure that I learn a lot from you and take your lead about decisions on my future. Blah blah blah. Half of my suitcase is gifts for you from them." It pissed her off that they seemed to see Calliope as a a second version of her sister and not her own person.

"I'm glad Sadako is still your friend, I like her." Maybe she should date Sadako, but she kind of remembered that she was with someone. At the mention of her having anyone, she'd raise an eyebrow. "No, not even close. I haven't dated anyone yet." She'd had her fair share of flings with people, but she'd never been interested in someone long enough to want to date them, let alone think about introducing them to her family. "Maybe that'll change while I'm here, huh?"

"Honestly, Calli, I couldn't agree more, but you'd be surprised by the amount of innovation that can be done over time. The world is already so different, even from when I was a child." Iphi wasn't exactly old, but she was mainly referring to her perfect memory. Being aware of every event that's ever happened to you makes it hard not to compare the old with the new. She literally never forgot any experiences she had.

She had clearly stepped on a landmine with Calli's body language changing once she brought up their parents. She wanted to hear her sisters grievances but she didn't really know how to change things for the better, she had spoken to their parents before about this behavior and they didn't seem quite to get it. "They did? Well, that wasn't necessary, but I don't want to be ungrateful. I'll have to give them a call later." She didn't feel like it would be a good idea to share with Calli that they had called her a few hours ago and talked for about another hour.

As she pulled up to her place, she'd park the car and hit the door to unlock it for Calli before stepping out herself. "I wouldn't be surprised if you did. I've known many coworkers or students who have found their prospective partners during their tenure." She would pop the trunk and take out one of Calli's bags before pointing to the building. "This is my condo." She wasn't exactly rich, but through a collective effort to balance her own repairs and being fiscally responsible, she had a fairly decent-sized place in a nicer area of Tokyo. These multiple rooms consisted of her own bedroom, a guest bedroom, an office, and a workout space. "I have your space all set up with the essentials, but I figured you'd want to design it yourself, feel free as I own this property, so you can make any modifications that you'd like."

Calliope was sure her sister was right. The world had changed in ways that even she would never be able to fully understand. That was just how life was, she supposed. Calliope would only nod at the sentiment, as they knew that there was nothing important to add to her sister's comment. It was much easier for someone like Iphi to be able to notice those things, after all.

"Do whatever, you're their favorite." She'd snap back, looking instead out the window. It wasn't fair that she could talk all nicely to their parents and never have an issue, but that Calli's life was nitpicked. Perhaps it was why she was so rebellious, or maybe that's just who she was. "They'll not give you shit for every little thing you do."

Getting out of the car with Iphi's comment, it made her groan a bit. "So I need to wait at least two more years to get someone?" Was getting someone to date easier as a pro-hero? She felt like she was mature enough, and that she had good qualities, but it was never enough for anyone. Moving around to the back of the car, she'd look up to the condo and smile a bit; it was pretty, and it didn't look like it was cramped. "Good shit, thanks for that. I'm glad I don't have to worry about having to hear you fuckin', I mean, at least not all the time." It was a crude comment, but it wouldn't be something she wasn't used to with her parents. "If you do have anyone, I gotta meet 'em first, because I don't want to have to deal with someone I don't like." Calli was picky about her future family, and she hoped that Iphi was just the same.

Moving over to her bag, she'd lift it up and start heading towards the building. "Are we just chilling today or are you taking me somewhere?"

As hard as it was to hear Calli claim that she wasn't the favorite, Iphi had to hold her tongue. Digging into this wasn't exactly a great idea when they were about to start cohabitation. Plus, she genuinely didn't believe it was true as her parents weren't exactly...good with words. Before she even agreed to this she had spoken to Sadako about the best way to handle it and her advice was to 'not focus on mending anything but the rift between her and Calli'. For someone who liked to slack off, she was a certifiable genius when it came to people, not that she'd ever doubt that fact.

Stepping into the elevator and holding the door to make sure Calli got on board, she would reply, "You're an adult, are you not? You can be involved with anyone you'd like if they're not a criminal." She added that last part as she was sure Calli would jump on it if she could. "I rarely have guests. No need to worry if you hear me; I am likely just working." She smiled at her little sister as they arrived on her floor and entered the living space. It was clean and organized, which wouldn't be much of a surprise given that this wasn't the first time they had lived together.

It was mostly a joke, and it was mostly when she was younger, but she knew that Iphi probably didn't care for things like that. "I'll be careful. It's why I'm trained to beat people up if needed. I won't hinder you or me in that way." As much as she was pissed about her situation, putting more strain on their relationship wouldn't solve anything. "It'll probably just be friends from school if anyone." She wouldn't trust anyone else in their house.

As they got into the place, it was so clean and organized. "Just like how your room was. So nice." Calli's was never clean like this. "Well, since you just fed me, maybe we could do some sight seeing? Some shopping? I guess getting a tour of the school could be good too." Really, deep down, she just wanted to spend time with her. With as much sass as ever, Iphi would ignore the implications of the first part as it was hard to think of her baby sister as an adult, especially since she had memories of holding her the literal day she was born. Instead, she'd offer a correction "You're IN-training to 'beat people up' until you get your provisional license, you're basically a civilian unless in emergency situations outside of your control. We have enough students trying to play vigilante, and you're an adult; I will come running if you're in trouble as your sister and a fellow hero, but don't do any unsanctioned heroics."

Once she gave Calli the brief tour, she would think of the best route to take to tackle all of the things Calli had suggested. "Technically, you'll have me for many more days; I might end up being your teacher once you get settled at UAU." Not like the school had any reason to separate them as Iphi was very capable of remaining objective when it came to situations that required it. "No better place to start the tour than Tokyo Bay; I can show you Ouros and the shops they have around there. I'm sure we could tackle all of Tokyo but you might enjoy that more with the friends you'll make at UAU."

"Yeah, I usually don't care that much to do anything crazy. Most of the time the average person is too scared to just try, and they wait around for... Well you." She would gesture with her arm, kind of meaning any hero. She wished that people had a little less faith in heroes, because idolizing them wasn't the option at all.

"You'll be my teacher?" That made her cringe a bit, because how awkward would that be? She was already a bit worried about how people would receive her, so having to also be in her sister's classes would add onto that. "I just hope you don't make it too obvious, I really don't want people thinking that's all I am." She was already for the comments, even if she wasn't going to like them.

"Seeing your agency would be dope as fuck. I think you picked a good location." Content with that option, she'd turn around and head back for the door. "I really do hope that I can make some friends. I'm actually pretty scared that I won't be able to connect with anyone. My Japanese isn't what it should be, and I'm transferring as a third year. That's just asking for people to exclude me." Still, she would try to have a good attitude about it. "But I guess being a loner isn't too bad either."

"Well yeah, most people don't have spiral eyes, let alone ones with such weird colors." She would stand there with her, thinking about how her sister's adventures had been when she was in UAU. "Well I guess I could meet Rin. I know there will be other people, but I don't want them to be my friend for the wrong reasons. Just because you're friends with a lot of people... I don't know if my personality is as likable."

Calli would just sit in the car, before looking confused. "A robot? Of course you'd make a robot." It sounded like something up her alley, but she wouldn't comment any more on it before getting out of the car and looking at the facility. As she listed off things, there was only one thing that was on her mind. "Are you expecting me to come join you here when I graduate? Do you want me to intern here now?" It was a genuine question that she wanted the honest answer to. "And I guess the garden."
