”Why do we have to study in the library, aren’t we studying to kick villain butts?!”

Johanna’s exclaim would come with a library full of stern looks and an extra-stern ‘shush’ from the librarian in charge. Despite her best attempts at being fussy, the librarian’s look manages to prevent her from saying any more words.

Was it a quirk, or where they just that intense at staring down unruly students? Johanna didn’t know, but after a few more scribbles in her notebook she let out a deep excessive sigh and push herself away from the table, but at least this time softly enough to not get half the room to be angry at her.

She couldn’t exactly walk away from the library; she still had a bunch of study material that she had to catch up on and the more she ran away from it the more it came back to bite her in the butt later… But maybe a short pause would be nice, she could hide herself in a corner and browse videos on her phone to recharge her energy and spirit.

Grabbing her phone, she almost didn’t see the person that had parked themselves in the corner of the library themselves, stopping herself in her tracks just in time to avoid a collision. The guy seemed to be busy reading something for themselves, but it definitely didn’t look like manga or something else they wanted to keep hidden from prying eyes.

She was pretty sure that she had seen the guy around campus the past weeks, so for Johanna that meant that right now was of course the perfect moment to make a new friend.

”Hey, you’re Leonard, right? We’re both in the Hero Course, I’m Johanna.”

She’d make sure to talk softly this time, to not draw the ire of others.

He did not stop by the library much, but at the end of the day he did need to reach the bare minimum acceptable grades to not let his probation be cancelled and his ass slammed back into prison, so there was that. That meant that no matter how boring or how little he cared for doing the actual hero course. He was about done with things, ready to set the book back on the shelf when... someone approached him. Odd. With the news of him being a Villain released on probation he certainly did not expect to have people come in to be friends. No love and cuddles, so to speak. "Uuuh. Hello." He mumbled, squaring the lady before him up and down with suspicion. He wondered what exactly was up with her. A library wasn't exactly the place to hook up or do chatting. "What do you want?" He added, blunt and straightforward as always, letting her known he wasn't expecting any courtesy from his coursemates at all. They are all to high in the head playing would be heroes to consider him a normal person or see over his past problems.

The other mumbled a reply and she couldn’t honestly blame them for being a bit flustered as she had just walked in on him hiding out in the little library cubby hole. They probably weren’t expected to be bothered at all, but here she was, wide eyed with a beaming smile.

”Well I actually wanted to hide out myself, but it seems you found this place first.”

Despite the defensive body language and general language of Leo, Johanna would look around and park herself close by out of sight from any eagle-eyed teachers and upper-classmen, she figured she could share this place all the same.

She wasn’t quickly held back from hanging out with prickly people, her dad got prickly all the time when they had spent a whole day in their workshop working on some new device, and she could prick through that exterior with pure unadulterated positivity.

”So what are you studying? Or are you secretly reading manga under there?”

She knew he wasn’t, but she wanted to tease a little anyways to break the ice.

Didn't she know who he was? Or simply she didn't care. She then asked what he was reading "Comparative Emitter Quirkology. Was, anyway. Working on my powers. Needed to figure some things out before going out to practice." He answered her, setting the book back into its place. He didn't need to hide around to read manga, if he wanted to read manga he would read manga. Not like the lady on the counter could do much about it. There wasn't much else you could do in a library but read in any case, what you read didn't really matter in the long run. "Shouldn't you have something to do as well?" This time it was him doing the questioning. He still did not believe she was entertaining this conversation for the good of his heart, so there had to be something about her or about him or about the place that was the reason he was being approached there. She did not seem like she was one of those geeks who actually liked to spend their free time in a boring blace.

Even if she didn’t try to look like it, her eyes almost physically glassed over at the title of the book they were reading. She had honestly done all her studying ahead of joining U.A., those years of cramming to get to the point she was accepted into U.A., that had been the hard work.

Now she wanted to show what she could do with minimal booklearning. She was a practical girl, she loved mechanics, she loved working with her quirk… But study-books, it was practically torture for her at this point.

”Something to do?”

For a second her voice trailed of, then she remembered what she came her for and would eagerly grab her phone.

”You’ll call me weird, but I kinda came here to browse cat videos… I think if I wasn’t going to be a hero I’d probably be running a shelter or maybe even a cat café somewhere.”

An awkward laugh escaped from her lips as she rubbed the back of her head, but then she’d grab one of the videos she had made a few days earlier and she wanted to show it to Leo.

”I saw this Norwegian forest cat the other day just wandering the streets of Tokyo. You don’t see them much around here, they tend to be from Norway… because you know, ‘Norwegian Forest Cat’, but it was super cool to see them here!”

Almost immediately she started rambling with little regard if the other was ever comprehending half what she was saying. She was now transfixed with the overly hairy ball of fluff that was called a ‘cat’ in the video, lazing in the sun and doing nothing particularly exciting or spectacular.

”My dad’s originally from Norway too, so I kind of feel like a kinship to the cat, you know.”

He couldn't help but smile a little bit at what she was saying. SHe would then offer her phone at him, asking him to look at something. He very carefully leaned in and gave a quick glance. Yep. Cat videos. "You know, I had a cat once. For a little bit anyway." He mumbled, figuring he should at the very least try to be somewhat amicable to someone who so far really seemed like was there to actually talk to him. It still felt weird, was more of a...novelty to him but still. "He was a stray like me. He was cute though. Lounged about my room from time to time before I was sent here." That was about as much as he was willing to tell her, mostly because delving in his past kind of upset people and the cat in question did not exactly have a nice end to its tale, thus he'd rather spare her all the gritty detail and move on. "If you need this place to watch your videos you can have it. Was about to go outside to train in any case." Leo would say after a moment of awkward silence. He didn't like to linger too much in places where he was kind of uneeded. This lady needed to watch her videos so he should try and leave her be.

Johanna figured to herself that this wasn’t all so bad, the boy looked a bit uninterested in interaction but now they were bonding over their collective appreciation of cats.

”I love strays, my mom doesn’t let me own cats so I practically try to find every stray I can and give them some love!”

But Johanna would look a bit confused when Leo stood up and chose to walk away from their spot. She appreciated him leaving her the hidey spot, but now she had been enjoying the interaction more than avoiding studying.

Putting the phone away, she quickly tried to hop and bounce after him, keeping a smile on her face.

”You know, sneaking outside seems like an even better plan than hiding out. We could go look for some cats when we’re done with practice.”

There was a gremlin inside of her mind that was saying that she was getting way too into Leo’s private space, but she felt a connection and really wanted to make a friend, so here she was intruding all the same.

So she was not going to watch cat videos? Wasn't that the point she was even speaking to him? To get him to let her have his space in the library. Now she wanted to train with him? "Weren't you supposed to be watching videos or something? Besides, why would you need to sneak in a... library. It's a public place. It's not like you cannot leave it if you want to." He inquired in a mostly serious tone, pondering what could cause this kind of erratice behaviour. "Look, if this is like something the professors put you up to you don't have to fake liking me or anything. I am fine on my own, I don't need other people to try and make me feel better. And if you are on the disciplinary committee, trying to investigate people with this kinda strategy isn't gonna reflect really nice on the image of the people within your group." He took a step backwards with elegance, fixed his tie then spun around. "Not that there is something to investigate either. I'm just going outside to the fields to train." He would add, still suspicious about the lady but clearly in not any stress or rush to leave the bookshelves.

For a second her smile would turn into one of shock and worry as Leo turned around and aired his frustrations about her attitude and actions. ‘Did I do something wrong?’ was the first thing on her mind. ‘Does he not want to be friends with me?’ was a quick second.

”I, I’m sorry I got kind of excited because I totally thought we could be friends.” Johanna answered.

Her voice sounded like a puppy that had been scolded, her shoulders slumped a little bit as she nervously looked around hoping that nobody was seeing this scene unfold.

”I just… just… kinda figured that you maybe were looking to make friends too, because it’s probably really hard to make friends with everyone talking about you and all.”

She knew about who Leo had been, everyone in U.A. knew from day one. She hadn’t even been at assembly, and even she had gotten the rumours about the evil white-haired kid that everyone should totally avoid if they didn’t want to be manipulated into becoming a supervillain.

But Johanna didn’t believe in that noise, if they were in U.A. then she knew that it was because they wanted to save and help people, be a hero that people looked up to. So she wanted to give him a chance that others wouldn’t.

”I mean, it’s not comparable I guess, but I don’t have many friends myself…”

She wanted to be friends with him because people were talking about his past and she wanted to give him a chance? Really? He had not seen that kind of naivety in anyone but Skald.  "I'll be honest. There are probably better friends for you out there. You seem...nice. You could probably be pretty popular too. Consorting with me is gonna get you in trouble, bullied by someone or just generally ostracized the same I am." He stated. Not that he was at the very least a little interested in the whole ordeal but he would rather avoid unnecessary attention. He already had alot on his plate. It was funny she thought he was here by choice and it was more because he had been forced there on some kind of rehabilitation program, but he did not bother to think about proving her wrong or explain his situation. "People won't stop talking about me either and I don't care much for trying to change public opinion. I'm not exactly a saint and honestly at this point I'm just trying to live day to day without problems." He paused and glanced around. Couple people already staring. Which meant that conversation was done, before more gossip spread about. "If you really want to deal with me, then I guess you can come train with me outside. If you care, anyway."

Johanna couldn’t help but laugh when the Leo mentioned that she of all people could be popular.

”Me, popular? I’m a crazy cat lady who spends half their time trying to break into the workshops because they won’t let me in.” she joked with a rare sense of self-knowledge.

But she realized that the boy was serious about it, and that made her feel a little awkward. ”I guess I appreciate that, though?” she added, not even knowing how she’d handle any sudden social popularity if it happened.

”But I’ll still take my chances.” her smile beamed again, she feared no bullies.

If they were really going to judge someone for wanting to change their ways and become a hero, then they were honestly deserving to be ignored.

Johanna would follow Leo outside, she could always use a bit more sparring practice, it definitely was an improvement over studying.

”So, what kind of training are you thinking of? Want to do some 1 on 1 training, see how our quirks work against each other?” she pondered.

It was of course not about fighting your fellow students, but it was always a good idea to see what worked and what didn’t if they ever found something comparable out in the field.

One of those people who like to just build stuff. Or maybe someone who perhaps built stuff too much for their own good. She then actually followed him around all the way to the training field. Well look at that. she really meant things. It was then she asked if they were going to train by sparring. The white haired smirked. "No. My quirk is far above the norms. While people have me wearing suppressors, my quirk can kill you. Or, at least, cause severe bodily harm if fought head on." He stated dryly. Perhaps she was the one of the most boastful confident ones. If she pushed on with the one versus one, he wouldn't streess the problem any further. Some people learn the hard way, by banging their head against a wall till they stumble into the answer. "I was about to do some kind of routine as per usual, but with you here I can't really do things the way I normally do. I can't... really ignore you and focus on my own things."

Despite the boy’s attempts at warning her about getting too eager about facing his quirk, any type of cold and cool mention of their quirk being so dangerous that it could straight up kill Johanna would only stoke the fire inside of her more.

She wanted to see what they were working with, more so than ever now.

”That sounds gnarly, but that’s why we’re here, right? To figure out how to use our awesome quirks without turning people into spacedust?” she grinned as she poked through any sort of darkness and kept everything as light as a feather.

Leo definitely had something to hide that they didn’t want to share, and she could respect that it was probably not kittens and rainbows either, but she was a natural positive person regardless of how dark the room got.

Any vague attempts at getting Johanna out of their hair also fell on deaf ears, and what they had to say only furthermore sounded like both an invitation and a challenge.

”Well, since you’re not able to do your normal routine, then we can always just have a short spar, right?” she’d propose, probably making the wrong suggestion.

But before they could answer with a yes or no, Johanna would already be taking her distance and armour up. Making sure to not take too much metal from her surroundings, lest she’d get scolded (again) about unwitting vandalism of school property, but still enough to take a hell of a hit to the chest.

They might be too stupid to not avoid conflict, but weren’t as stupid as to ignore a potential threat to her own safety.

”You wanna do some light fighting, or just go straight to throwing our haymakers?” she called out, with way too much eagerness than was warranted.

There were a few teachers present, and if she took any attempt at looking at them, she’d probably notice them being primed to jump in the first moment things went south…

She wanted to spar him and he really did not, but she went ahead and already did things like there were meant to fight. Alright then. Guess she did have to learn the hard way. "Come at me however you like. I shall do the same. I would like to strees the fact that we are on university grounds, as such, I won't be able to show you my full strenght in any case." He simply replied. There was not really any need for strategy this time. He would just need to put as much force behind his attack to hopefully scare the lady off any further confrontation. Hopefully without harming her too much.  With his energy wrapping around his form to form his battle suit, Yuma stood where he had stopped, waiting for the crazy cat lady to do...whatever she was going to do. Hopefully this distraction would last a short amount of time and he could go back to his routine.
